Without any context in those stories, it's almost like saying that arresting a black person is racist, regardless of whether they committed a crime or not. For example, I live in Alabama, which is in the South obviously, and in my high school blacks can do practically whatever they want and get away with it. The majority of blacks (MAJORITY, not all) in my school spend their time acting like baboons, running around and picking on students who are trying to learn. To say that blacks are completely innocent is stupid and naive.

The South really is like this. All of them. Period. From the top of the social ladder to the bottom. Racism is so deeply embedded in the culture that there is no way to escape it. It persists in the language, in the culture, and in the mental habits of the people. Even those who tell themselves they are free of it exhibit behavior and thinking which is blatantly racist to the outside observer. - pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8i've had friends who've lived both in the south and north. racism exists in both. the difference is it's more subtle in the north. in the north, they pretend to be "colorblind" but if you are black (despite having the same qualifications as a white person) you get denied loans, employment, housing, etc.

But the story behind that is 150 people were pooled for this jury, 112 were black. 38 people showed up to the jury selection. I kid you not, none of the black people showed up to be on the jury. I'm not saying there isn't racism, heh... most of my extended family is racist and quite a few kids at school admit their racism. Even though, at school, we usually talk about race open and freely. I hang out with mixed ethnic groups.. hell I'm even in a mostly black marching band. I like black people, I like white people, I like hispanics, I like asians. Sometimes it's fun to make fun of a group, and I will.. I'm open on my feelings and I've never been in a big conflict over it.

Instead of intentionally not hiring a white person (which would be racism against a white person), a company hires a black person (reverse racism, leaving the white person without a job he deserves because you don't want to be called racist for turning away the black person). Now, I think this idea is complete *****, but I'm just trying to point out where I think the distinction between racism and reverse racism (which IS racism) falls.

Perhaps you were unfortunate and ended up in a bad town, I don't know. While racism does exist in the south, it's hardly to the extent in which you describe.
