Just go to hell. People are trying to honor the life of a great writer and patriot and all you can do is regurgitate more Hannity and Limbaugh BS. You're a hateful, spiteful, hollow shell of a person that doesn't deserve this country because you don't appreciate or understand it's true greatness.
Just crawl back under your rock, with your Confederate flag blanket and suck your thumb like the whining, tantruming, ignorant little piece of trash you are. - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -11/+29BigKitty, you always claim we are purposely trolling your submits, and yet almost every comment you leave on a non-conservative issue is "this is gonna get dugg down". Which in definition is a ***** troll, so please, do ***** off. Hypocrit.
- ksuburke, on 10/12/2007, -15/+23Rest in peace, journalisim has lost another great writer
- Sandwiches_Time, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12At least spell her name right.
- VAXcat, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14 Molly Ivins predicted there would be slaughter in the streets and a major crime wave when the Texas Concealed Handgun law was passed, enablling Texans to carry firearms, When the opposite happpened (crime plummeted) she did not have the integrity to admit she had been wrong.
- IntoTheWired, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10She was no better, nor worse a writer than any other political columnist at large today.
However, she spent a career doing it. The fact that none of her detractors here can boast a regularly published column speaks for her credentials.
So, let's cut the ***** trolling. Share fond memories, speak a few kind words, or say nothing at all. - broohaha, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war.
"Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we're for them and are trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush's proposed surge."
-- Molly Ivins (1/14/07)
Not bad for someone who purportedly hates her country and (if I may infer from your comment) the troops. - Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Thats the beauty of OP-ED. Its purely opinion. Now if she were a writer for textbooks I would get upset at emotions.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18Hey BigKitty, how does it feel to be a robot?
- orp2000, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12She was one of a kind. I'm listening to an interview she did on NPR right now. Funny lady, with lots of integrity. She will be missed.
RIP Molly - VicHislop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"You may get fired, you may get in trouble, but have fun anyway. Because as Willie Nelson sings, if we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane. So, as you all go forth unafraid, to raise hell and rock the boat, you just keep working at getting some laughter and some fun into the whole deal."
From a lecture Molly gave at Columbia University.
Thanks for everything Molly. Goodbye, you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I can only hope that on your funeral, JJsays, people are as kind to you as you were to others.
- 88iou, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I didn't agree with her writing style, but her columns in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution were one of the things that made me start paying attention to politics in middle school. For that, may she rest in peace.
- tankexmortis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Like all decent journalists, she will remain loved by fans of information and despised by fans of truthiness. Rest in peace.
- interg12, on 10/12/2007, -12/+15My favorite book was Bushwacked. i tihink i'm going to re-read it for nostalgic purposes.
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Who?
- timpon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4She called him Shrub because he named one of his previous companies "Arbusto" which he thought was Spanish for bush but actually translates to shrub.
- thekzz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3so as long as you REALLY disagree with what they did it's okay to trash their deaths? Is there a specific number of people you have to kill? For instance, will it be appropriate for me to trash Teddy Kennedy when he dies for killing a women?
- baltimoretim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ Lady...
Learn your history before you try to describe it.
From wikipedia:
"According to the 1993 United Nations' Truth Commission report, over 96% of the human rights violations carried out during the war were committed by the Salvadoran military or the paramilitary death squads, while 3.5% were committed by the FMLN."
No, Reagan's US was not on the side of right here. There wasn't marxist terrorism and slaughter (bit of a slip there, by the way? I thought in neoconland that terrorist=muslim? Or does it apply equally to all brown people?).
And when, exactly did the Catholic Church turn Marxist? "Among the victims of the war included Archbishop Óscar Arnulfo Romero, who is believed to be one of the greatest apostles of the poor in Latin America, for delivering his message of peace and equality for all Salvadorans. He was assassinated while delivering mass on Monday, March 24, 1980."
Romero's assassin would help to found the US-funded death squads. - jeeeeves, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6A person died and all some of you can do is spew hate. Makes me very sad for you.
Rest in Peace Molly, you will be missed. - 2012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder too. I blocked the two at the beginning who made disparaging remarks about "boobs". While the disrespect to the dead is dreadful here, the total contempt and dishonor to one who died of breast cancer by making fun of her appearance and lack of "boobs" is more than I can take and they are blocked on my account.
- DiggerinCali, on 10/12/2007, -10/+11Ivins was full of hate much of the time, to call her a"journalist" is just innacurate. She only knew and understood one point of view on most issues, and that doesn't give the reader much to think about. It's just one side of an issue. Liberals=good. Everyone else=bad.
- faxmodem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm not an American, and I hadn't heard of Molly until I read 'Who Let the Dogs In'. Although much of the humour escaped me (just what is Texas politics really like?) I laughed a lot, sometimes almost disbelieving that some people could be as Molly described and yet, still get re-elected.
I'm really sorry that she has died.
BTW, a writer doesn't have to be liberal (which I am) to be funny or to have integrity. - baltimoretim, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9Does anyone know if digg caps the number of users a person can block?
'Cause with all the fascists disrespecting the dead in here, I have to be approaching a limit.
Rest in peace, Ms. Ivins. - rhinohelix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I disagreed with almost every single word she ever wrote, vehemently in many cases. That being said, one should not speak ill of the dead and recently departed. In the next life, we will all have different concerns than those she has left behind. Vaya con Dios.
- DEADLYNITESHADE, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4LADYBEGOOD, it is apparent from your statements about RUSH LIMBAUGH you have never listened too his show. loud mouth dimwit? no solutions? an audience of bitter misanthropic losers? so 20million losers out there, huh?
MISANTHROPIC, that's a big word for such a little mind. did you just learn it? was this your word of the day at community college? - honkeybot5k, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8She was an awesome lady. Not the best writer in the world and not always right either, but for us she was an example of the Texas that we hope for. She was Austin, she was Annie Oakley and Calamity Jane. She'd toss beers back while writing about the surreal circus of fools that is Texas Politics.
So for those of you crapping all over her
Get ***** rot. - rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1BIHH Molly
- Hinesville, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I would never wish anyone to suffer and die from cancer. Molly Ivins will be missed but not by me. She was pure hate and not a very good writer. She is called a good writer only by those who shared her hate.
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@JJSays
"Yeah? Well you're a communist!" is even older than "But will it blend?". - baltimoretim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'm upset: no one told me that today was unfounded internet rumor day!
- baltimoretim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@LadyBeGood
El Salvador was free when Reagan paid mercenaries to kill dissenting women and children. Entire villages were wiped from the map. Farmers died, Catholic priests too. Nuns and laypeople were massacred.
And don't talk about freedom in El Salvador like it was some kind of gift from the US. Like we invented the concept or something. Like we have a patent on the idea and its execution.
Freedom existed in El Salvador before Reagan (that was the whole problem--its people were free to choose their own destiny and not one dictated by US commercial interests) and exists today despite the horror inflicted on its people by US foreign policy in the '80s. It exists because it has always lived in the heart of the good people of that country. No man, no country, gives another person freedom. Freedom (or call it Liberty) is one of those certain inalienable rights.
So no, I don't sit quietly when Reagan is painted the saint. I also don't sit quietly when a voice of dissent like Ivins is trashed by those who claim to love freedom. - fix8ed, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6@BigKitty
So true, so true... - kindpastor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I once went to hear Molly Ivins speak, she told the audience they shouldn't make fun of homeless people because it was only appropriate to make fun of people who were better off then you.
I scratched Osama Bin Laden off the list as he is living in caves while I have a nice house. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3You are a cloaca.
- baltimoretim, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Of course, she wasn't complicit in the murder of thousands of Salvadorans. Reagan spent about $1 million a day funding death squads in El Salvador. Ivins wrote opinion pieces for newspapers and magazines. So there's ONE difference between her and Reagan; maybe it has something to do with their respective posthumous treatments?
- LonChaney, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Throwing the word 'fascist' around is EXACTLY like the dim-witted conservatives
that used to call everybody that disagreed with them 'commies'. It's a style
of argumentation that requires no substantive thought or open-mindedness. - Mactard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This is the problem.
Keep us all divided.
We all need to shut up,relax, and meet in the middle or somewhere agreeable.
I didnt think her articles were that great. At least the few I read.
What is she doing with her estate?
Leaving it to charity? A University? Kids? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -16/+14These are the kind of non-rational, kindergarten level attacks that lost you the house and senate, stupid.
SUCK IT! - LadyBeGood, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3El Salvador is free today because of Ronald Reagan. Sniveling liberals like Mollie Ivins would haver surrendered El Sal to the communist terrorists (those are "freedom fighters" to you sniveling liberals.)
- DaneArden, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5I very rarely agreed with her but she could turn a phrase and her use of good ol’ boy sayings always made me smile. She was smart and funny. Just wish she had been on the right side.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0@ksuburke you're an idiot....you probably couldn't even score with that chick....
- LadyBeGood, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Ronald Reagan sent in the U.S. Green Berets who assisted patriotic Salvadorans to crush the Marxist-Terrorist FMLN. I mean, they freaking wasted those communist murderers and slaughterers. The United States then helped heroic President Alfredo Cristiani bring peace to his nation. Yes, the Salvadorans earned their own freedom but we generously helped them do so.
- stanti, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5I'm glad she is gone. One less liberal.
- LadyBeGood, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@deadlysilentbut
I listen to Rush all the time. I am entertained by the unspeakably stupid & ignorant morons who call in to kiss his ass. Like you, Rush Limbaugh is an uneducated, pill-popping, draft-dodging idiot who has millions of like-minded idiots (although far less than the 20 million you shills claim) tuning-in to his bloviations. Much like the crackpots on the far Left, you (his audience) are self-loathing losers in life's lottery.
Imus eats Flush Limburgers lunch daily. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Molly...just another dead, hateful Lesbian - no joke...she was probably licking the ex-Govenor of Texas, Ann Richards.
Why would we miss her? - thekzz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Hmm, funny how leftists want everyone to show honor and respect when they die. Anyone remember the response to President Reagan?
For all the made up nonsense and plagiarizing, I'm shocked she wasn't on the NY Times editorial board. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Seriously....both Molly Ivins and Ann Richards were Lesbians - and "Best Friends".
What is so offensive about surmising that Molly might have been licking Ann's Pussy? - fix8ed, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6@Stanti
I second that. One less liberal = one less traitor. - LadyBeGood, on 10/12/2007, -10/+6Yep, she was a blowhard hater just like Rush Limbaugh. Both full of bile and spleen; always whining yet offering no solutions. Loud mouth dim-wits preaching to their audience of bitter misanthropic losers.
