- chiorpheus, on 11/06/2008, -2/+11Fastmedic, go to the video store and rent some West Wing.
- drlha, on 11/06/2008, -2/+10After that, you need to rent the video on how to use the Digg reply button.
- basye, on 11/06/2008, -0/+8He's chief arm-twister, but not policy maker.
- Fastmedic, on 11/06/2008, -1/+8What does the chief of staff do?
- nomadspartan, on 11/06/2008, -2/+8Another great news for the American people.
- ohnoerino, on 11/06/2008, -0/+5Did you know that Rahm Emanuel graduated from a Ballet Academy in Evanston? It's true.
- btschul, on 11/06/2008, -2/+6This guy is a nutjob. He sent a 2.5 foot rotting fish to someone he didn't like, and threatened to stab a bunch of people who disagreed with him.
- Anim8tor, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4What would America's greatest almost-vice-president say ...
Well, Fastmedic, they're in charge of the workin's of the executive branch so if they want to they can really get in there with the staffers and reach out to legislators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.
Yep. That's it. - avataros, on 11/07/2008, -1/+4Obama has found his Luca Brasi and Tom Hagen - the brawns and brains needed to get things done. He's also Obama's "bad cop" counterpart. A solid pick for CoS, I'd say.
- basye, on 11/06/2008, -1/+4True, but he is best known for being an ass-kicker.
You do *not* want to diss this man! - btschul, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3I love it when people give me a great news.
- Anim8tor, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2... and that he only has NINE FINGERS since the meat slicer accident on prom night? THAT'S true, too.
Actually, I kind of like that guy. He's like the Yakuza, but in politics. - Gracenotes, on 11/07/2008, -0/+2Maybe. But remember that this is Obama's first announced appointment -- we'll need to see more major executive appointees to get a better idea of what kind of administration he has in mind. Analysis of his executive branch makeup might seem silly in a month from now if you only base it on two hired people (counting Axelrod).
Ultimately Obama is looking to keep a measured outgoing message like he did during his campaign (with a couple of exceptions... comparatively, more than a few McCain surrogates went "rogue"), and in that vein Emanuel is a logical choice. Rahm'll just have to tone down the dickishness. I hope you're wrong about Obama's fall for the sake of country. A lot of criticism of anyone Obama appoints is to be expected from the right (bawwwwww, Obama didn't appoint a Republican to run the White House, he's not a uniter after all), but don't think his progressive supporters are going to stop pressuring him just because he got elected. - jboitnott, on 11/07/2008, -0/+2Emanuel's coolness factor rose considerably when I found out that his brother, a Hollywood agent, was the inspiration for Ari on Entourage. I kid you not.
- BelatedHero, on 11/08/2008, -0/+1I say baseless because practically every post of yours is anti-Obama for any reason you can find. You're bitter that McCain lost. We ***** get it already. But it's been THREE DAYS since the election and you're predicting the "meteoric fall" of a presidency based on his pick for his personal chief of staff. Obama chose Emmanuel because he's loyal and gets ***** done. Even McCain's BFF Lindsey Graham said: "Rahm knows Capitol Hill and has great political skills. He can be a tough partisan but also understands the need to work together. He is well-suited for the position of White House Chief of Staff." (1)
So basically what I really meant in my first post was; if you're going to predict the "meteoric fall" of a president who has yet to take office, try to make some ***** sense instead of coming off like another pathetic crybaby who can't accept that McCain failed epically.
(1) http://lgraham.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAct ... - sgiffy, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1Not my first choice. I would have preferred a bit less divisive choice, but given the job, a tough ass ***** might be just whats needed.
I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. - JoeMondo, on 11/07/2008, -3/+4But he got business done.
- Zippo, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1Get paid a lot more than any of us.
- inactive, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1Well, it's not the position Monica Lewinsky held for Clinton.
- JoeMondo, on 11/07/2008, -2/+2Good.
Obama needs a tough bastard to cut through the ***** and implement, implement, implement. - BelatedHero, on 11/07/2008, -1/+1Yet again, DealCracker provides us with his baseless insight.
- DealCracker, on 11/07/2008, -2/+1Baseless? So you're saying that mailing a dead fish to a pollster is not the actions of a thug? You think Emanuel's record of voting 98% with his party shows that he is willing to reach across the aisle? You think that his reputation as a pitbull sets a tone of cooperation?
- DealCracker, on 11/07/2008, -7/+4Ready or not, here comes Chicago thug politics. This appointment sets quite a tone for the Obama presidency. The tone of "get the f*ck out of my way b!tches".
In four years we will look back and see this appointment as the beginning of Obama's meteoric fall. I know that the hard core Obama fans think this is a great move. But the 60% of moderates who voted for Obama are going to be outraged when this guy starts acting like the thug that he is. He'll make Rove look like a saint.
