- zeusthemoose, on 10/10/2007, -4/+96To think conservatives actually became enraged when Clinton lied under oath for a blow-job...
- SuperCUBE, on 10/10/2007, -5/+96The Republican party is screwed, either way.
- Marijuana, on 10/10/2007, -1/+85I'm just glad we have the internet, you wouldn't hear this ***** on CNN.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -3/+68Context: Gonzales testified that there was no dissent within the DoJ over warrantless wiretapping.
In fact, the majority of his top advisers threatened to resign over the program. When Gonzales was asked to clarify these two conflicting facts, he said that his advisers were upset over a "different program." In other words, he was lying about a different program to save his ass. - otheruser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+44I can predict the response;
Gonzales: "Sorry, I can't recall." - cereal1, on 10/10/2007, -6/+49Or the president can just claim that the attorney general 'mis-spoke'. What can congress do, try to subpoena him? Suuure.
- FredoBerfil, on 10/10/2007, -6/+42Gonzales is definitely one of the most embarassing fools I've ever seen, but what's worse is watching the congress. Yes, it's completely obvious: Gonzales is a liar (perjurer) and a criminal, Bush is a liar and a criminal, and Cheney is a liar and a criminal, but what are you doing about it? Just gnashing your teeth impotently as far as I can see. Bunch of useless *****.

- emiller, on 10/10/2007, -15/+44even my iphone hates G W.
- EntropyMan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24See @swrostmore's detail below. Gonzales already claimed he mis-spoke previously and has now corrected the record to claim this new "secret" program that probably doesn't exist. And all to back up a clearly ***** assertion that there was no dissent about the warrentless wiretapping. Yes, there was dissent, he now claims, but it was about a whole other illegal spying program.... So technically, he claims, he wasn't lying. Right.
Anyway, he can't claim he misspoke anymore. It's come to facing perjury, learning about this new "secret" program, or Gonzo's "resignation." The pathological liar dug his own hole on this one. - Arkonnan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22B-b-but, admitting he's a liar would be to admit he was wrong. And when the President admits that he's wrong, the terrorists are emboldened!
- Winters, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Yea if you watched the whole thing, you'll be surprised how "un-clever" it is. It's easy to tell exactly what's going on even if you have a tiny attention span. I guess I was just expecing something more "slick" considering how manipulative these guys can be, but in reality it's very transparent and almost childish.
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21It isn't easy to tell what's going on - this is just a tiny part of the larger picture - which is slowly being revealed as a massive Karl Rove/RNC-led conspiracy to manipulate the voting process. Even if Gonzales goes down for perjury, he will have still avoided testifying truthfully about why he fired 9 US attorneys who refused to prosecute democrats during an election, and the whole truth will never be proven.
- jveezy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22They won't have to admit anything. They'll just pull some phony reason not to admit anything out of their asses and put up the finger like they've always done until someone grows the balls to finally impeach them.
- SocialPoison, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Yancie = right wing parrot.
- Erectile, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Hi Rudy.
- EntropyMan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19I don't know about 'enraged,' but 'engorged' seems to fit. If they were 'enraged' then, they'd be 'enraged' now too. But crickets. The GOP is actually arguing that pursuing contempt charges against Miers et all could lead to an imperial presidency. Say what?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21And what makes us think we are gonna get him impeached now, he should of been kicked out of office back in 01
Mike Gravel 2008 - swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18I'm sure you are basing that statement on some prior behavior by thinkprogress, perhaps an article that was incorrect or factually wrong? I'm sure you would have no problem producing an example of this. Because I know you would never call a particular source inaccurate just because you don't like what they are reporting...
- otheruser, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18THEY'RE JEALOUS OF OUR FREEDOM!
- Beestie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Just look at the last three AGs we've had to suffer through: first Reno then Ashcroft and now Torquemada. Who's next in line for AG? Hannibal Lector? Leatherface? The dude from Saw? Emperor Ming? God help us.
- ricree, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Or just let him get convicted of purjury and commute his sentence him. But I'm sure that the administration would never do anything like that, right?
- rpalu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14This Administration is making Dan Quayle look like the God of Intellectualism.
- Spanktacular, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13What shocks me about Republicans' general acceptance of this Napoleonic power-grab, is their failure to anticipate the exercise of these powers under a Democratic president in the future.
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13dugg for the Clarence Bodeger quote from robocop.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Thats simply because they rightfully believe that most people are too stupid or apathetic to care or find out the truth themselves.
Its like that episode of family guy where Lois runs for mayor and finds out that if she answers any questions with "9-1-1" or "to keep us safe from terrorists" the people don't question her further. - swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12 ARLEN SPECTER (R-PA): Starting with the issue Mr. Comey raises, you said “there has not been any disagreement about the program.” Mr. Comey’s testimony was that “Mrs. Gonzales began to discuss why they were there to seek approval” and he then says “I was very upset, I was angry, I thought I had just witnessed an effort to take advantage of a very sick man.”
GONZALES: The disagreement that occurred was about other intelligence activities and the reason for the visit to the hospital was about other intelligence activities. It was not about the terrorist surveillance program that the president announced to the american people.
SPECTER: Mr. Attorney General, do you expect us to believe that? - FredoBerfil, on 10/10/2007, -1/+119/11, Al Quaeda, Al Quaeda, 9/11, fight them over there, blah de blah....
- DevlinNulland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10These guys really put me in mind of a quotation from All the President's Men, when the high-level informant Deep Throat is talking about the Nixon administration, and all the scandals that they've been a part of:
"Forget the myths the media has created about the White House. The fact is these guys aren't that smart, and they got in way over their heads." - BESTenemy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10That's probably the biggest thing I admire in Gravel - his commitment to bringing our head office criminals to justice. And don't let them hide behind retirements and resignations. If they're alive, drag them into court. Bring Rumsfeld back, and just of the occasion, bring back public beheadings exclusively for political trials. Let the next guy in line know this country does not tolerate crime.
For financial scandals, confiscate property, sell assets and repay the taxpayers. I don't care if it amounts to 1 cent per person. If you steal and get caught, return what's stolen and then go to jail to think about it. - supazio, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Protip: No one cares about your iPhone.
- omnithought, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7What's next? The Chewbacca defense?
- OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Better headline: "President May Be Forced to Call Gonzales a Liar, Liar with Pants Constantly on Fire -- or Admit New Crimes"
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9You're full of *****, and a troll.
I follow politics like a hawk and even I realize they aren't doing *****. I'd have to say this is the first time in history that a president has illegally acted for YEARS on end and nothing has been done about it not only in congress, but from our own ***** people.
No, they aren't doing anything about it. - swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8You do know that several Republicans have called for Gonzales' resignation, right? And playing the race card is just sad. Kurt is rolling over in his grave, seeing you post such stupidity under his name.
- g00dETH3R, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I’m not from the US but here’s what I know so far....
I think it pretty clear and mostly undisputed the current US administration obviously lies, breaks the law and represents the interests not of the people but of the rich. However the part I don’t get is, if everyone knows this and the US is such a free and democratic country why aren’t these people in jail or at least disgraced? I mean just take a look at digg (even disregarding the dups) it’s just endless stories of scandal, corruption and disregard for the law (especially the constitution) every single day. Also the polls show %70 of the people know this and agree. I remember what the USA stood for when I was growing up, it was number one the place you wanted to be where freedom overcame tyranny and won, a place where your dream came true (yes I visited when I was 13 and went to Disneyland). But now it it’s like a strange mutation of what it once was and a banana republic. It reminds me of Columbia where everyone knows that the government are a bunch of criminals but nothing can be done, except of course the country is a super power and isn’t poor. So what’s going on, is it really like that or is digg an unfair representation?
PS I know the whole left and right thing is BS but seriously who voted Bush the second time round . - weebit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9I kind of wonder if Gonzales did this as a attempt to get the whole bunch impeached instead of just a few? I mean really if his butt is grass then why should he be the only one to fall, put enough facts out there so they can nab them all instead of just a few. That way Gonzales is not the only one in trouble.
It wont be the first time this has ever happened. Crooks will point a finger if they feel they are the only one being prosecuted for the crime. - Homerr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6My message to Congress: JUST CALL HIM A LIAR ALREADY!
- swrostmore, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7thinkprogress = information
- TheMeatball, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6The arrogance is sickening.
- aTTicus78, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Write your congressmen and senators! Call them! Fax them! Do it often. All of their contact information is available on their .gov web pages. In times like these, people especially need to take more responsibility in voicing their opinions to their elected leaders
- aliengoods, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I like Ron Paul, but the last thing we need in the White House is another Republican.
- fucknut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5that would be CUE.
- rald84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Torquemada? the man's as mexican as taco bell.
- 0ddity, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Queue Special Prosecutor....
- trevbork, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4bring this ***** to justice! wooooooooooooooohoooo!
- tucsonwc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4actually, change is being blocked by the republicans. The Democrats do not have a supermajority.
- m0tbaillie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Name one person in the republican party who is worth a *****, and I won't digg you down. Ron Paul is too moderate to be a republican, and too right-leaning to be a democrat. He's anti-war, anti-aggressive foreign policy, BUT he's also anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage/gay rights. Oh, and he also opposed/opposes raising the minimum wage. I guess he thinks that in the year 2007, 5.15/hr is decent.
http://www.2decide.com/table.htm - Blitzenn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5So our Attorney General, the ultimate upholder of truth and justice in the US, is a liar by way of his own words. So who are they replacing him with? Oh, nobody because this government supports and encourages liars apparently.
- gernblansted, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm afraid you are correct. They are too focused on being "electable" and they don't want to "stir the waters", with the exception of a little political theater.
Now, if they send the House of Representative's Sergeant at Arms to pick up Harriet Myers (if not Gonzo himself) and put them on trial in congress, I'll take this back. -
