For the folks out there are really skeptical about Popular Mechanics' analysis regarding the effect of temperature on the strength of steel, I encourage those people to read through any undergraduate book on the strength of materials. There are two things that affect the strain (the way an elastic material is bending): stress and temperature. The beams that support the WTC were already under stress, and the increase in temperature was enough to cause the material to yield. Something similar that occurs often in turbomachinery is called 'Creep':

Throughout history, governments have been staging or facilitating attacks against themselves for the purpose of creating public support for being drawn into conflict. The United States has a long history of such behavior, nearly every major war it has fought had been brought about through the use of this tactic, including World War II and the Vietnam war.
Operation AJAX
In 1953, the Central Intelligence Agency working in tandem with MI6 overthrew the democratically elected leader of Iran, Dr. Mohammad Mossadeq. Mossadeq had been educated in the West, was pro-America, and had driven Communist forces out of the North of his Country shortly after being elected in 1951. Mossadeq then nationalized the oil fields, and denied British Petroleum a monopoly.
The CIA's own history department at CIA.GOV details how U.S. and British intelligence agents carried out terror attacks, and subsequently blamed them on Mossadeq.
In the late 1990's, large sections of operation AJAX were declassified. The field commander of operation AJAX was none other than the grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt, Kermit Roosevelt. Before his death in 2000, Roosevelt went public to the media, bragging about his patriotism in carrying out terror attacks in Iran and blaming it on the government.
The provocations included propaganda, demonstrations, bribery, agents of influence and false flag operations. They bombed the home of a prominent religious leader, and blamed it on Mossadeq. They attacked mosques, machine gunned crowds, and then handed out thousands of handbills claiming Mossadeq had done it. The handbills read "Up With Mossadeq, Up With Communism, Down With Allah." Dr. Mohammad Mossadeq was incarcerated for the duration of his life, and fared better than many of his ministers, who were executed just days after the successful coup for crimes that the MI6 and CIA had committed. The CIA then formed the dreaded Iranian secret Police, SAVAK, and a 25 year rein of terror and torture then commenced.
The operation was seen by western intelligence agencies as a huge success. The CIA then successfully used the exact same technique in scores of countries to overthrow elected governments and dictators alike.

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident
“In the summer of 1964, President Lyndon Baines Johnson needed a pretext to commit the American people to the already expanding covert war in Southeast Asia. Congress then authorized the Gulf of Tonkin resolution. The Tonkin Lie paved the way for over 58 thousand American deaths, and over a million and a half dead Vietnamese.”
Operation Gladio
“Operation Gladio was an umbrella name for literally hundreds of bombings carried out by Western Intelligence agencies and NATO in Italy, Western Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia. From 1947 to 1981, Italian Presidents have gone public admitting Operation Gladio targeted innocent civilians and was to be blamed on leftists and communists. On November, 22, 1990, The European Parliament had a resolution condemning the activities of Operation Gladio. The former Italian Intelligence Chief has come clean concerning Gladio’s actions as well. Many other countries have declassified documents concerning Gladio.”

Operation Northwoods
A well known example of past government sponsored terror is “Operation Northwoods,” an official government plan from 1962 which was apparently carried out during the 1967 attack of the U.S.S Liberty. The documents have been declassified in 1997 by the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Review Board, and they are are in the National Archives.

New evidence and testimony from former officers in the US and Israeli armed forces and intelligence services has revealed that President Lyndon Johnson conspired with Israel to deliberately attack the US Naval Intelligence-gathering ship USS Liberty on June 8, 1967, in which 34 Americans were killed and 171 wounded.
Some key former high-ranking officials who were in office at the time in the United States government, including the Secretary of State, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Director of the NSA, and the senior legal counsel to the U.S. Navy Court of Inquiry into the incident.
Claim that the attack was premeditated and deliberate. They note that the Liberty was more than twice as large as the El Quseir, and was clearly designated with Latin rather than Arabic letters and numbers. Its all backed up. There is a lot of hard evidence! Documents, wiretaps, and a bunch of agents who were in charge of the counter-intelligence operations who are willing to testify.

The evidence has been deemed credible by Senators Grassley and Leahy, Congressman Waxman and the Inspector General. Furthermore, the Bush Administration’s reaction to much of the evidence, the excessive use of secrecy and national security to call evidence (some that was and still is in the public domain) clasified shows us the U.S. government takes the evidence seriously. They have even gone so far as to try to gag those in congress that heard and have seen the evidence. You know their scared when they want to gag congress.
The FBI has never refuted any of the allegations. The Bureau has remained strangely silent on the case.
The Senate Judiciary Committee members Grassley and Leahy said the FBI corroborated much of the story in closed door hearings.
The Inspector General said many of Sibel's core allegations were backed up by documents and witnesses.
The government has invoked the 'state secrets' privilege twice against Sibel and has attempted to gag the U.S. Congress
It's hard to deny Sibel's allegations have strong evidentiary backing, making it impossible to ignore her.

Douglas Fieth was put in charge of the Office of Special Plans, the office that was responsible for most of the "intelligence" about Sadam Hussien having WMD's. Larry Franklin who worked for Fieth is sitting in prison now for passing classified information about Iran to AIPAC. The two top officials at AIPAC Kieth Wiesman and Steve Rosen are currently on trial now for espionage. A lot of people say this classified information must have come from someone higher than Franklin's paygrade (ie Fieth).
