- bizzywho, on 11/09/2009, -2/+78Obama voted for and wants to extend the PATRIOT Act.
And he's a constitutional scholar. He should know better. - novenator, on 11/09/2009, -13/+84Although this ABC poll was conducted a few years ago, it demonstrates that the Republican party, and especially GOP conservatives are strong advocates of big brother, government. 4 in 5 Republicans favor our government spying on us. And this is the party that is trying to win back congress in 2010, the pro-domestic espionage party. Aren't this tactics the Islamic Iranian regime use on their people?
- SchmuckofNI, on 11/09/2009, -13/+70Lame, and democrats are no better as the Patriot Act still exists.
- hascat, on 11/09/2009, -12/+6480% of republicans are idiots
- NorthMass, on 11/09/2009, -3/+53umm... 6/10 people don't believe in the 4th amendment?
- repins, on 11/09/2009, -0/+429 in 10 probably could not tell you what he 4th amendment says.
- repins, on 11/09/2009, -4/+42evidently his "Constitution" is not the one I have a copy of.
- roodammy44, on 11/09/2009, -1/+37Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Sorry America. You guys seem to scare much easier than those fighting the British. It seems that 6/10 Americans hate freedom even more than the terrorists do. - Pschkqitzsough, on 11/09/2009, -2/+29Where have you been? Obama is in full support of the Patriot Act, and has voted for it and has openly said he will extend it..
I get sick of so many people assuming only one side of politics is BS and not both.. Those are the real idiots and it's much higher than 80%. - BullBearMS, on 11/09/2009, -3/+26I'm frakking sick of this sort of partisan *****. Let's give facts a try.
In the Senate, only ONE Senator FROM ANY PARTY voted against the Patriot Act. Thank you Russ Feingold for taking a stand!
Only 18% of the House members of any political party voted against the Patriot Act. A whole 30% of the Democrats in the House voted against, making them look much better than the Dems in the Senate. (Or the Republicans in general)
Since the House makes it hard to read the voting record, I'll introduce you to an awesome public service that makes these votes easy to read.
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=h200 ...
Nancy Pelosi voted in favor of the Patriot Act, and so did Harry Reid.
Since President Obama has continued Bush's War on Terror policies AND voted in favor of FISA as a Senator, I have no doubt he would have voted for the Patriot Act as well. - Skywise, on 11/09/2009, -0/+23100% of Democrats have control of all 3 houses of government.
And STILL have not repealed the Patriot Act. - repins, on 11/09/2009, -2/+25proud member of the 20% minority...
and how lame is it posting a 2 year old study as news - Travelsonic, on 11/09/2009, -0/+22Do you believe in privacy? Tell others "none of your business" when asked about something personal?
Sounds to me like you are human, and have "something to hide" - it's called privacy for a reason, dumbass. - c0mputar, on 11/09/2009, -3/+25As someone already pointed out, I find it ironic that the party that is making such a scene over the government invading health care would be an overwhelming supporter of the government's invasion of their private lives. These kids will believe anything that comes out of the mouth of Dick, Rush, Beck, anyone on Fox's News, and anyone who claims to have some authority in the republican/christian/right movement.
- Jaime2000, on 11/09/2009, -4/+25He does. He just doesn't care.
- Robjayne, on 11/09/2009, -1/+22Not Ron Paul!
- cjays1, on 11/09/2009, -6/+26I've come to the conclusion Obama must have slept in class a lot.
- ThomasMifflin, on 11/09/2009, -0/+20Not Russ Feingold.
- bizzywho, on 11/09/2009, -1/+21Isn't that what Bush did too?
- neurosine, on 11/09/2009, -1/+20I'm curious to know why such a bill would be supported. It certainly undermines American freedom, but I'd like to know how it protects us. Not in an polemical fashion. Look, I don't understand the validity of the bill. I'm just asking that someone explain to me without spewing vitriol.
- pimpofpixels, on 11/09/2009, -1/+204th amendment in Bill of Rights:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
6th Amendment:
"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense"
Seriously... red state folks, let's just agree on this one tiny issue that we probably shouldn't just forfeit all of the rights afforded to us by the constitution. - omnithought, on 11/09/2009, -1/+20100% of partisan people are idiots. Both parties suck.
- nofate2029, on 11/09/2009, -0/+16***** THE PATRIOT ACT.
- omnithought, on 11/09/2009, -0/+14Sadly, Obama seems to have no plans to dismantle it. In fact, he's been supporting it this whole time. That's why I never got gung ho about him and remained cautious. For all his talk, he's still a politician, and you don't become President in this country without selling off your integrity.
- 11oops, on 11/09/2009, -0/+14I think you need to be subjected to some 'enhanced interrogation' just to verify that you actually do have nothing to hide.
- GreatSunJester, on 11/09/2009, -1/+15Umm ... article dated June 9, 2005 -? A bit out of date, I think.....
- inactive, on 11/09/2009, -1/+15It's just a god damn piece of paper.
- mah2cent, on 11/09/2009, -5/+18In addition to Hillary and a whole raft of Dems. And Obama favors extending it.
- repins, on 11/09/2009, -3/+16I agree with you completely, but someone needs to tell the Democrats in power. You know the ones who renewed this POS and the ones who think health care is also Constitutional.
- newes, on 11/09/2009, -0/+13So you would be for weekly full cavity searches as well if the government told you it was for your safety then?
- MrFunStuff, on 11/09/2009, -1/+14No government should have the power to violate the rights of it's citizens.
- oldhick, on 11/09/2009, -1/+13Yeah, I would love to hear how this is a lie... Are you saying Republicans don't support the Patriot Act? Reality begs to differ.
- govtdoesnotwork, on 11/09/2009, -4/+16He's not missing that. He's saying they're all the same. He's right, by the way.
- akhomestead, on 11/09/2009, -1/+13Funny I heard that from a lot of bush supporters.
You trust him because he tells you what you want to hear, that's about the only real difference we ever get from a president. - govtdoesnotwork, on 11/09/2009, -2/+13What's a lie about it? Most Republicans are statists just like most Democrats. In other breaking news, water's wet & the sun is bright.
- akhomestead, on 11/09/2009, -22/+33Unlike the 5 out of 5 obamabots who actually think he's against it even after he's voted to continue it, and wants to continue it as president.
- johndavidjack, on 11/09/2009, -2/+13He ran on the platform of hope and change.
I think it's pretty cowardly to bend over to these chicken hawks. Do you elect people to be cowards and bow to political pressure? - Erich100, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10The lesser of two evils is still evil.
- mushtakrakish, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10i don't get how (generally) republicans can be in favor of the patriot act and then (generally) be against "big government" and the governmental control that (generally) is assumed when democrats are in power. hey, could you kick me in the balls? just make sure you miss my nuts when you do it.
- Emperor03, on 11/09/2009, -0/+10over 4 years actually :)
- oldhick, on 11/09/2009, -1/+11@quirkopatra, so you're saying Republicans DON'T support the Patriot Act? I don't care about the date nor the spin.
You and Phoenix and any other Republican out there should chime in with a yes or no to 3 questions:
Do you support the Patriot Act?
Will you support a candidate that supports the Patriot Act?
Do you think the majority of Republicans support the Patriot Act?
Of course Republicans support the Patriot Act. It's their baby. - novenator, on 11/09/2009, -15/+25Actually, according to the article, Democrats ARE better, as only 43% of them support extending the Patriot Act. What we need is to put pressure on them by contacting your congressfolks and letting them know that either this thing must be repealed entirely, or the Justice Act must be passed to repeal the most draconian parts of it.
You can Contact your Representative at: http://tinyurl.com/nj45r and Senator at http://tinyurl.com/b1lm - rocknog, on 11/09/2009, -1/+10What pisses me off is that is that such universal support of the Patriot Act is often cited by conservatives as evidence that they're right in supporting it. As for myself, I see it as evidence of rampant corruption in Washington.
- rocknog, on 11/09/2009, -0/+9Personally, the lie I'm really sick of is of all these Republicans running around pretending to be born-again libertarians ever since the election.
- Koushiro, on 11/09/2009, -1/+10Aren't Republican's supposed to stand for less government? What the heck ever happened to that?
- novenator, on 11/09/2009, -5/+14Haven't you buried this story yet peeny? Its been a half hour, your friends on IM should have got to this by now.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 11/09/2009, -2/+11I'm kind of conflicted;
1) This is a haunting from the Wayback Machine.
2) It's still important to rub the evidence of past Dick moves in the faces of Conservatives. Then of course, the Democrats pretend to get beaten up and have their lunch money stolen, and reluctantly pull the same Dick moves. So we get to choose between Fascists, and the abused wife of a Fascist -- THAT'S DEMOCRACY 2.0!
See what I did, I made it appear on Google.
>> History repeats, because I forgot what I was saying. Vote for family values. - korvan504521, on 11/09/2009, -1/+9This one doesn't support it. Well, I'm not a Republican anymore so I don't count I guess. ***** these bastards.
- pinchduck, on 11/09/2009, -0/+8Who cares about what they think. They have no power. The real question: How many Democrats elected to Congress or the White House favor repealing it? Answer: Damned few. C'mon, Dems, show us civil libertarians some love.
- DarkMatter911, on 11/09/2009, -9/+17Buried for being old, out dated, and clearly the posting of this is trying to further an agenda.
If you want to talk about how one party or another thinks post something that is not almost 5 years old. -
