- Minarchian, on 08/08/2008, -8/+274As usual.
The raid was carried out according to proper procedure.
Because trampling on the People's Rights is what following proper procedures is all about. - BurningSand, on 08/08/2008, -4/+138All over some weed--I'd say they were victims of the local police! The war on drugs: A waste of time, resources, and lives...
- titlemikedotws, on 08/08/2008, -2/+106Why continue the delivery. They should have backtracked the shipment. Just goes to show you anybody could be set up. Wonder what would of happened if the shipment was addressed to the White-house?
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -2/+90Don't forget the old saying: "Give a guy a badge and a gun, and he thinks he's God".
- Jgal1, on 08/08/2008, -18/+105This is insane! these cops should all be in handcuffs! Shooting dogs and handcuffing old people in their own homes for some weed. This is a drug teenagers smoke behind their schools. Soccor moms steal it from their kids and smoke it with their girlfriends, but if Phizer isn't charging $180 an ounce for it with a generous gov't kick back it's gotta be a bad thing. Weed isn't killing anyone!! If a cop shot my dog I'd kill him, I would go to jail for murder b/c I would shoot him in his face and anyone else who was even there! Cops are the dumbest people in our society.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -1/+72The PG Police chief says, "The Calvo family members were the apparent victims of a local drug ring."
NO, they were the victims of a gang of thugs dressed in police uniforms. There is no way to justify using a SWAT team to bust down a door in a drug case without any evidence that the "suspect" is dangerous. First they bust down the door and then they take some gratuitous shots at some family dogs. Whoever is in charge of this unit should be held responsible and fired. You mean it never occurred to these drug enforcement "professionals" that somebody would send a package to an innocent person. In other words some stupid petty drug dealers are smarter than the PG police.
If this happened to a black family, it would never even have made the news. This is just the way the Police do business every day. Don't think it can happen to you? Think again. - JackpotCity, on 08/08/2008, -3/+72I understand that people have a job to do, but is it really necessary to make use of such strong arm tactics... I mean, it's not like they were trying to capture the world's biggest mass murderer or anything.
- littlebylittle, on 08/08/2008, -2/+67According to the oversight people I just called, it was the Sheriff's Dept. that carried out the raid.
As far as I'm concerned, these are Dirty Cops.

http://www.co.pg.md.us/Government/JudicialBranch/S ... - Christianptriot, on 08/08/2008, -3/+48had this been my house, the first officer through the door would have been staring down the muzzle of my carry-gun as it began to fire - with NO knock, No announcement, and NO uniforms on these guys, I would have taken this for an attempted home invasion and begun firing probably before they even entered the house - all the while moving wife and kids to a safe zone and preparing to reload.
Imagine the uproar this would have caused - worse than it already is - if the mayor and family were Black? Or muslim? - Robjayne, on 08/08/2008, -15/+57Government must protect people from themselves. So what if innocent people are occationally hurt. The police should raid every home periodically just to make sure we don,t have any contraband. I bet reed and all digg this up.
- xerodustrial, on 08/08/2008, -1/+42Poor puppies. :(
This ***** with letting police walk away unscathed for doing insane ***** has got to end. - inactive, on 08/08/2008, -5/+45Prince Georges County police are notorious thugs. This is typical.
- Mhelm, on 08/08/2008, -1/+41Lets not forget that these things happen to common people everyday in this country, but we never hear of it because they aren't rich politicos living in fancy houses. This is what we get when we give up freedom for a false sense of security. We get a POLICE STATE.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -5/+44Good grief, the Police State has officially arrived. The disgusting part to all of this is that this is common in out of control PG County, MD for people unfamiliar with area. The local government is corrupt from the top down and nothing is ever done about it either. This is what happens when the standards to become a police officer are dropped to the lowest common dominator because of AA.
- eil9524, on 08/08/2008, -3/+38This was the Mayor for crying out loud. I'm sure some DA was/is just looking to make a big name for himself. The cops acted cowardly when they shot the dogs. I agree with Christianptriot, the same would have happened at my house. What a bunch of stupid meatheads. I am so sad for these good folks, I hope they get justice and I hope the cops soon become minimum wage security guards (UNARMED)! The DA can kiss my fn ass!
- ThinkOutTheBox, on 08/09/2008, -0/+35Yea this will really piss you guys off. He was interviewed and CNN showed the clip. He said, when they raided his house he asked for a warrant every 30 minutes and their reply was This is a No-Knock warrant. It took 3 DAYS to produce a warrant and then when he did get a copy of the warrant it wasn't even a No-knock warrant. Hows that for ***** up.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+33From the yahoo news article:
"The deputies opened fire and executed our dogs the very second they broke down our front door," Calvo, 37, said at a news conference on his front lawn Thursday. "We were harmed by the very people who took an oath to protect us."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080808/ap_on_re_us/ma ... - Jax904, on 08/09/2008, -3/+35Police are getting a bit out of control, Of course they did nothing wrong LOL. As a African American I'm mad that this has to happen to a white privileged person to get any attention. I live in Jacksonville FL, and see the the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office (JSO) do things like this all the time, illegal searches and bad arrest. I used to be a police officer and left the force because of the corruption I saw. They smoke more weed than some of the people they arrest for possession under 20gms. What a joke such a harmless drug. Legalize it and watch crime will go down. Maybe then we can keep child molesters, murderers, & rapist in jail instead of telling us where they may be living when they get out.
- ThinkOutTheBox, on 08/09/2008, -1/+33They get pissed because it wasn't cocaine.
- fastract, on 08/08/2008, -1/+31I cannot believe the callousness and disregard for the horror that this family endured by these stinking "police". Please, come to my house with your arrogant and bullying tactics and I,ll be waiting for you. This overpaid and arrogant police chief ought to be fired and tried immediately, and those who were in the "raid" put in prison. My heart goes out to the family, and though the "law" will never apologize, I am so sorry this had to happen to you. My condolences on the loss of your beloved dogs.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -1/+31This is a perfect example of how the Police feel empowered to do anything they want without any respect for the law or the rights of American citizens.
- Elise1984, on 08/08/2008, -0/+28Yeah, I would wish you luck with that too, but I'm sure that you would be the one going to prison for defending yourself, never the police.
They bear no responsibility for their mistakes.
I can't remember where, but I remember hearing about an 80 something year old lady that went to jail when police raided her house in the middle of the night... she was scared, understandably, and shot and killed one.
It was a drug bust, they got the wrong house. It didn't matter though, she spent the rest of her years in jail.
Welcome to the police state. - dondara, on 08/08/2008, -0/+28Anybody who feels threatened by a Labrador is a coward, a moron and unfit to wear any uniform. Just take those pigs out back and shoot them. They deserve nothing more.
- inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+27Imagine if this was just a regular schmoe and not the mayor...It would be business as usual
- Noods, on 08/09/2008, -4/+31If you concern is the dogs, your priorities are out of alignment. This happens all the time here in Baltimore and *people* die because of it. We need to end the drug war and no-knock policies.
http://www.examiner.com/a-210987~Family_of_slain_D ... - Mojavegreen, on 08/09/2008, -1/+22I bet that if this had happened to an adverage no name person they would still be locked up charged and then imprisoned and no one would be none the wiser about this scenario.
- redsoxmb545, on 08/09/2008, -1/+19Why the ***** did they have to kill the dogs?
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -2/+19Man, they love killing those dogs, apparently. :/
- veronicaromm, on 08/09/2008, -0/+16How could the police not know, Its the Mayor? Something is seriously wrong with this picture. Police are getting more and more out of hand. Before they raid a place isnt it customary to know who lives there. This stinks of something more sinister.
- inactive, on 08/08/2008, -7/+23Ruby Ridge. Waco. Elian Gonzalez. 9-11. Now this, one of thousands of the like.
HOW MUCH WILL IT TAKE? - inactive, on 08/09/2008, -6/+22I'm an anarchist. I believe the police are a completely worthless part of government. Police very rarely even investigate crimes. My mother's house was broken into, the cops came over wrote a report and then filed it. No questions to the neighbors on whether they saw anything, no fingerprinting the jewelery box that the theifs took, no going to local pawn shops, nothing. No investigation whatsoever.
- ladycj54, on 08/08/2008, -2/+17oh to the officers that shot the dogs i have notified the national humane society and have asked them to step in re:this matter.i am a member of the national humane society.
- Ghostman555, on 08/08/2008, -6/+21 I have four "Feral" dogs. They stay at home. They weigh anywhere from 55-150lbs. Nobody wanted them. I'm not a fanatic. I think that my past letter's confirm, "i like to talk to folks." Now, shoot my dogs? I gotta go with "J Gal " ......No one is gonna shoot my dogs. Cops or not. What if I was a serial killer, or a bigtime drug dealer, would it warrant them busting in my house? Sure it would. But the Mayor? These thugs didn't even know his name. Hahahaha. This is ridiculous.
"Steal my car, throw eggs at my house, ***** in my small swimming pool. BUT DON'T YOU DARE SHOOT MY DOGS." Buncha damn, overgrown, bullies, not worth of wearing anykind of badge,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Ghostman - inactive, on 08/08/2008, -4/+19Dear speudo-patriot-act--"freedom"restricted American citizen,
If the cops are at your door don't answer. You have no obligation to answer the door. Don't even bother talking to them, because cops are trained to find any silly infraction. If they had a warrant to being with you would have m16s in your face and your dog's brains splattered on the wall. - Minarchian, on 08/09/2008, -0/+15There's more justice that *could* occur in the courtroom, if only people knew they have the ability to judge the law as well as the facts.
- Jgal1, on 08/08/2008, -0/+15Excellent point, if these people were black or muslim every American should get a bill from them for $3.
I put their county in a search engine and these people are a hot mess. Stay away from Prince George County! Drive Around It! - Patrikc325, on 08/09/2008, -1/+16The cops that killed those dogs belong in a cell next to Michael Vick!!
- bsmeteronhigh2, on 08/09/2008, -0/+14What do you mean, "Mistakenly?" The knew exactly what they were doing. They had zero qualms about the door they bashed in.
- PhilLesh69, on 08/09/2008, -1/+15A boss I had in High School told me once...
"There's two kinds of people who become police. There's the guy who likes to have power and carry a gun, and there's the guy who knows that if he wasn't a cop, he'd be a criminal". - WoollyMittens, on 08/09/2008, -0/+14I'm surprised they didn't tie him up and taser him 36 times because of [lame excuse to condone police brutality]
- sinrtb, on 08/09/2008, -0/+14First "Police said the package was one of about a half-dozen retrieved by authorities in the past week along the route of a deliveryman in northern Prince George's. The packages contained a combined 417 pounds of marijuana valued at about $3.6 million. " -- http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ...
Second "Prince George's County authorities did not have a "no-knock" warrant when they burst into the home of a mayor July 29, shooting and killing his two dogs -- contrary to what police said after the incident. " -- http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ... - inactive, on 08/09/2008, -0/+13Don't forget that one of the dogs was shot while running away.... And from one article I read the couple was forced to watch one of their dogs suffering as it laid shot and bleeding and were unable to help.... ***** those *****, all over some pot...
- duggtodeath, on 08/08/2008, -4/+17I am sure the Mayor has a nice house in a great neighborhood -- why did they think to raid it for drugs?
- moulin1, on 08/09/2008, -0/+13I don't have anything in my house stronger than aspirin. I don't sell drugs, buy drugs or use drugs. So can anyone explain why the "war on drugs" leaves me in fear for my freedom and safety?
- sturmgiest, on 08/09/2008, -1/+13Read about Ruby Ridge again. Yes, the family was completely crazy, but they didnt even know they were being stalked by heavily armed FBI assault teams until their dog spotted one. It was an overuse of force, and you cant justify the FBI sniper shooting them unprovoked. Furthermore, the whole incident was over a ***** NFA sawn off shotgun law. Is it really worth killing people over a "shotgun with a barrel length of less than 20 inches"? The family did nothing else besides that. They were crazy, they had neo-nazi connections, but that doesnt mean its ok to kill them.
And Waco? Waco was a no-knock early morning raid by SEVENTY-FIVE ATF AGENTS WITH ASSAULT RIFLES. They did not try to send a single car up to the compound. They went in with an army, unannounced, no negotiations in the early part of the raid. Yes, it was a crazy cult, but it was once again an overreach of government authority. Again, it was also over some NFA items.
But 911 truthers need to stfu. Neither raid was a conspiracy, they were just examples of terrible decision making and over reach of police. - ladycj54, on 08/08/2008, -4/+16uh,i,m sorry but unnecessary force was used in the shooting of the mayors dogs,i,ve sent an email and asked the national humane society to step in,re:this matter.i,ve also sent an email to the berwyn heights police chief letting them know that i,ve notified the humane society.and that they used unnecessary force.noone has the right to shoot innocent dogs period, nuff said!
- antechinus, on 08/09/2008, -1/+13The dogs probably failed to obey a direct order from the police officer, giving cause for them to be arrested. The policeman didn't have handcuffs suitable for the dogs so it was easier to shoot them. Pretty logical really.
- dagnome1984, on 08/09/2008, -0/+12A map of the various botched raids.
http://www.cato.org/raidmap/ - dagnome1984, on 08/09/2008, -0/+12I thought they killed her on the scene if I remember correctly.
- kertong, on 08/09/2008, -0/+11FTA: "We were harmed by the very people who took an oath to protect us."
Couldn't have said it better myself. Public servants? Really? -
