yeah he had close ties to Islamic rebels in Chechnya... if you were a KGB agent assigned to infiltrate an enemy organization (like Islamic rebels in Chechnya) - I think it MIGHT BE YOUR ***** JOB to establish close ties... what good is a spy if they can't earn the trust of the ones they're trying to spy on - bannus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Sorry for abusing comments—but the link has changed somehow, use duggmirror for the real article:

Your comment is so ridiculously offensive. Try to learn about Islam beyond the 10pm news and what's happening in Iraq. Every religion has had its violence; here, 99% of the muslims in the world denounce it, then, the church endorsed and was the source of it. welcome to my block list.
Almost all muslims are peaceful people who believe in the one-ness of God and just want to live their lives according to their faith. Those who are fighting in Iraq and in the "War" are a clear minority who are denounced by the rest. - grinin, on 10/12/2007, -13/+27Sounds like a plan...

Didjya read the article?
from the article (page 2)
"Litvinenko's father, Walter, said in an interview published today that his son - who was born an Orthodox Christian but had close links to Islamist rebels in Chechnya - had requested to be buried according to Muslim tradition after converting to Islam on his deathbed.
"He said ’I want to be buried according to Muslim tradition’," Mr Litvinenko told Moscow's Kommersant daily.
"I said, ’Well son, as you wish. We already have one Muslim in our family - my daughter is married to a Muslim. The important thing is to believe in the Almighty. God is one.’" - walugi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I'm sure it'll get to this sooner or later:
There isn't a major country on this Earth who hasn't committed atrocities. Whether it be Russia, China, USA, France or Britain - except people choose to forget atrocities done by their own country because it might have been 10s or 100s of years ago. - apetrie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Not all paths lead to one God, or any Gods for that matter.
Humans are capable of moral behaviour without the threat of eternal punishment.
Not even sure why we are talking about this in regards to this article though.. the guy did what he felt was right for him, why do we all feel the need to judge him for it? - burhan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The Allahu-akbar literally translates as "God is Great" and is something typically said when anyone converts to Islam (or for that matter if anything of substance or importance occurs, Muslims mention God's name to honor God, and to remind themselves that all good comes from God only).
Your response to the Allahu-akbar illustrates your lack of knowledge and the affect of the media on your ability to truly understand what the culture/tradition/religion is about.
No doubt, you thought that "Allahu-akbar" is something that is specifically said related to a terrorist event. Consider it akin to saying "Oh my God" - either when something great happens (you win the lottery!) or if something bad happens (your car gets t-boned by a truck). - Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@crimsontwo:
He's not smoking crack. If you'll pay attention, you'll see he wrote 'Roman', for which his comments are exactly correct, not 'Russian', for which they aren't even in the ballpark. - Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Actually, it's very much possible to convert at the last minute. Of course it would be wrong to hold out just so you are not punished for your sins right up until the moment you die, but then again I don't think anyone would be that stupid to think like that. Too many people in the world die suddenly. That's why someone who's already decided to switch will not wait until they're on their death bed. They'd do it right then.
This guy probably finalized his decision at the last minute and God will hopefully forgive him and his sins. Once you become a Muslim, it's believed your prior sins are washed away. - Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@blakacid:
It doesn't prove anything to a bigot. Indeed, you'd be hard pressed to prove anything to a person with strong prejudice that he doesn't already believe. Fart-sniffers, I believe they're also called, and it applies to anyone who fails to continously check their opinions against fact (yes. I essentially stated that prejudice is the source of smugness. And, as far as I can tell, the facts back that up pretty well.)
Meanwhile, the only thing is says to someone like myself is one of two things:
1) He's always been a muslim at heart and wanted to die in the arms of islam
2) He wanted to effect a final gesture of insult at someone by converting to the religion considered most abhorrent by the intended insultee.
Given that the region is largely muslim, and that he had good reason to insult Putin, it could easily be both.
Or, it could be some strange form of mislead astroturfing, as has been suggested on this thread. I disagree, though; I somehow doubt the local islam population is stupid enough to think that faking a conversion of someone famous and dead would result in acceptance of islam by the working-class bar hecklers of the west - who are really the last humans they should be worried about.
Really, there's not enough data to judge. - kazuhima, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7gtapro91, stop acting like you're almighty on here. damn.
- Rekzai, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Because your stupid.
- dr4gon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Not in Islam, coz on the deathbed if he converted he would have to say "There is no GOD but Allah*, and Mohammad is the last messenger of Allah." To submit to this statement means that no matter how badly you lived your life Allah could grant you mercy and you will enter paradise after your time in hell it depends on Allah. Whereas to die without even submitting to the fact there is a GOD would mean the person will spend eternity in hell according to Islam.
* Why is god called Allah:
Allah is the Arabic name for god. It means one god explicitly. The word Allah is used and not God etc because Allah implies explicitly ONE and you cant have god, goddess etc. - Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10The 72 virgin story is a myth btw
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Violence and psychopathy occur on an indivdual basis. Blaming a religion for violence in a few of its followers holds about the same logic as blaming Doom for Columbine.
Seriously. Every letter I've ever seen written by violent psycho killers has failed to contain proper grammar and punctuation. By your own logic, you and every idiot poster on the internet that can't seem to find the "." button and the "Shift" key are violent psycho killers.
Most of your italian mob are very strict Catholics. Every gang member I've ever met has been some flavor of baptist. The KKK are exclusively protestant.
Meanwhile, do yourself a favor: read the book of Leviticus. The harsh, bigoted, and violent rules set down in that book apply to every Jewish-sourced religion (All christian, muslim and jewish variants). Now, tell me that not following those rules is fine, but not following the 'kill the infidel' rule that the western world likes to tout would result in death. There's the same variation - I believe it's called 'interpretation', but I consider it 'revisionist dogma' - in muslim as there is in your religion (I don't give a damn what it is).
Point is, please check your opinions versus fact, and use a bit of common sense. Otherwise, please refrain from shooting off at the mouth (or keyboard, as the case may be). That kind of crap may please your fellow pub-hecklers, but in the real world, it just makes you look like a bigoted *****. - michaeltime, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Islam isnt mentioned in the article?? Can you read? Or turning to page two is too hard?
Litvinenko's father, Walter, said in an interview published today that his son - who was born an Orthodox Christian but had close links to Islamist rebels in Chechnya - had requested to be buried according to Muslim tradition after converting to Islam on his deathbed.

Do I even have to point out the irony? - quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It comes from a saying attributed to Muhammad, but not from the Koran.
"The least [reward] for the people of Heaven is 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome of pearls, aquamarine and ruby.
Honestly I'd rather have the 80,000 servants... - warriorscot, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11You know ignorance isnt something you want to show off. I love the whole all people who arent with the "government" or are just muslim are terrorists, a majority of this sites viewers are from the US of A i always find it funny when people forget how their countries came to be so often on the backs of people who would now be branded terrorists. Who are you to say who is right and wrong.
The Chechen people have genuine grievances, and yes some people and groups there aren't the kind of people you want to know but not everyone is like that, just like not all Americans are bible bashin hill billies.
And his religion doesn't matter either, the man was a spy im sure he did some pretty ***** up things in his life and im sure it made him feel better at the end of his horrendous death, so hes welcome to his religion and nobody else should criticise someone for it. Hes also welcome to be buried however he likes its his funeral im sure youll get to be buried how you want so its nobodies place to criticise the last wishes of the deceased.
And im going to end with a little bit of advice to everyone, if you don't know what you are talking about SHUT THE ***** UP, ive got no time for the ignorant of any variety. - dr4gon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Islam is evil that why he converted yeah that makes sense. So he could burn in hell forever, yeah makes sense.
Islam is all evil thus making a vast majority of the people on earth evil. The fastest growing religion in the world because people are attracted to the concept of evil.
Get a grip man. I don’t know what translations etc you been reading.
"if you really kno what ur talking about and have read the Quran and kno the teachings thoroughly ud agree with me that its an evil religion"
No mate the opposite, dont get me wrong Islam does not say if someone trys to mug you YOU cant throw em a fist but it also says dont transgress the limits. So i agree that there are some bits of the Quran that can b twisted and pulled out of context very easily but if you put them bak in context and look that the statement as a whole then you can judge the religion properly. Also you begin a Christian look at the Quran with an open mind, its also hard for me to look at the Bible neutrally sometimes but i try my best its only fair.
"and the ones u see committing those terrorist acts are the ones who actually thoroughly read the Quran."
This is the opposite, these people are brain washed quickly with short out of context passages from the Quran, i can prove this to you too eg. the most common passage is the "Say the infidels where eva u find em"* however in context this refers to a treaty which was broken thus the Muslims were ordered to fight those who fought them (by God). Just read the sentences before and after the sentence anyone claims that is from the Quran and condones terrorism etc. So by looking a little deeper i can see the sentence is not evil etc so your argument is wrong. Look longer and deeper and it all makes sense.
*Quran 9:5 note 9:4 and 9:6 ATLEAST before judging. Also note infidels is not found in any major translation but disbelievers, non-believes is I THINK. - tardmongerster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8It is possible. The theif on the cross next to Jesus repented just before he died and was saved. Eternal life is a gift that only must be accepted. There are no strings attached nor requirements of good deeds.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12Allah-u-Akbar.
- MelvinSchlubman, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1572 virgins
- Fordi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Personally, I choose to ignore all atrocities performed by any country outside of the lifetime of the regime in charge.
As a result, democratic nations get a bonus - their regime changes often enough that I can ignore an atrocity that happened ten years ago.
The reason: atrocities are committed by the people responsible for deciding to commit them. I can't, for example, blame Germany for the orders of Adolph Hitler, now can I? - zsamdani, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9All paths lead to one God.
This includes christianity, judaism, islam and any religion that preaches in one God.
From all i've learnt of Islam the term "believers" does not imply only muslims...it implies anyone who truly "believes" in God.
Allah is just a name for God....you can call him anything God, Yahweh etc.
Islam is far more mystical than a bunch of bearded guys with AK's
Its the final chapter in a long line of religions that God has sent down through his prophets to guide humanity.
The fact that humans have used and abused religions to their benefits does not mean God hasn't sent down the message. It is for us to see through the crap and see the truth in it.
If you read the Quran, Bible or Torah you'll see the similarities are clear and God has strived to send a single message through his messengers.
That message is simply love and compassion for humanity and belief in the one true God.
In the Quran it says that God will forgive you for ignoring his rights i.e prayers etc. but he will never forgive you for ignoring human rights.
In the Quran it also clearly states that you do not have to be a muslim to enter heaven, you have to believe in the one true god and do good towards humanity.
In the Quran it nowhere states that you have to blow up innocent people to get 72 virgins...i haven't read that anywhere...have you? - Rekzai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's the same thing you idiot
- kazuhima, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9does it ***** matter that he converted to islam?
why does everybody have to make a big drama out of it.
the only weird thing i see here is that he converted right when he died, otherwise, its perfectly normal. - hakluytbean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I make no comment beyond admitting that I don't understand this story from start to finish, but in case anyone hasn't seen it there's an odd photo of litvinenko at the Observer/Guardian. It sort of sums up how I feel, a bit confused:
'wearing a Scottish bonnet, Chechen swords and KGB gauntlets on the day he became British - just before he was poisoned...'
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/gallery/0,,1962849,00.html
? - davetheman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3if you pray to the wrong god, too bad for you.
flying spaghetti monster anyone? - hakluytbean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5tardmongerster: 'Eternal life is a gift that only must be accepted. There are no strings attached nor requirements of good deeds.'
This bothers me. Still, I can see why it's popular... - dr4gon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2FOLLOWING COMMENT WAS BY zsamdani posting incorrectly in the wrong place, i hope it is read here.
@tardmongerster
This bibleprobe site is all WRONG...its nothing but propaganda. Yes there are hundreds such sites that spread hate about other religions. I believe the people putting them up feel threatened in some way and hence come up with this crap.
e.g Islam doesn't say Jesus did not Die...it says he was resurrected and hence didn't die in the human sense. Also there is no
Secondly is Islam doesn't believe in cardinal sin....when a baby is born he is sinless unlike church teachings which say Jesus died for our sins...we're all sinners and hence must pay the church for forgiveness.
Too much BS on this link will take too long to start refuting....who comes up with these sites anyways....just read the scriptures for the truth!
Still maintain All religions are quite similar....if Mohammad was fake then so were Jesus, Moses, Abraham and all the rest. - Wolfcaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think that the guy was killed by one of Nikola Tesla's particle death ray weapons, which the Soviet's control after much research on the subject durin gthe cold war. It is possible that the Soviet's have given this weapon to the Russians.
- shm1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I call this inaccurate - the page has changed from the mirrored version completely. There's no reference to spy converting to terrorist except in the HTML headline.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3converting to any religion and actually confessing to god youve sinned and ask for forgiveness are two totally different things.
- Lifeprong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've had it with Christians and Jews talking about Islam's supposedly inbuilt inhumanity.
"Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him."
Numbers 31:17 in the King James Bible (the world's most popular version of the Bible).
Read http://aol.bartleby.com/108/04/31.html#1 for context and decide if the situation justified this genocidal slaughter.
Before you talk about another religion's or deity's bloodlust, excise this type of garbage from your scriptures, because you will not find this level of inhumanity expressed in the Koran or in any other religious text. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm glad you can read Arabic because you have, at best, a tenuous grasp of English.
- davetheman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If Baha'i and Zoroastrian have 1 billion followers, that would be a different story. He will convert to Zoroastrian instead because it's popular.
- samfernandez, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9@chaosmachine
Not sure what is weird about this? Pretend President Bush poisoned Michael Moore and then, before Michael died, he converted to the south beach diet. The poisoning wouldn't strike me as odd. But the conversion??? You're kidding me. Little late to be converting to a diet, right? - elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3When are people here gonna learn no one gives a ***** about your block list.
- knuxed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"more Islam bashing... In Islam you can only have 4 wives and even having more than 2 wives in the Muslim world is unrealistic. The kind of Saudi Arabia the richest man in the world has 2. Second this whole virgins in heaven for Islam thing is false. No document in Islam has ever said that. Third these dumbassess dont know that the whole point of jihad is to come back alive."
You are so kidding me,in Malaysia Muslim men(especially those who cannot afford it) will have 4 wives more often then we would like to see.Heck, they seem to have a high turnover of wives - tomvendetta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No In Soviet Russia Jokes?
