- FreakyD, on 10/10/2007, -15/+50Bush?!?!?!?!?
I do believe, if memory serves the vote in congress to approve force on Iran was 76-22. Quit blaming ONE sole person. I think bush as an entity is a boob as much as the next guy but damn people. He gets continued funding and continued approval for the use of force through a lot of people. Lets look at the WHOLE problem, if you don't you will all be very disappointed when he does leave office and this continues through another presidency. - NekoIan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23Norman Podhoretz:

- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22at a time when the iranian people...not the ***** up government...but the PEOPLE of iran truly like the americans and want their country to be more like america (god knows why), we will go over like ***** cowboys...blow up a few facilities (which they will quickly rebuild), destroy the good will of the iranian people and give the wacko hardliners the upper hand in political power for the next few decades.
someone PLEASE feed president bush a pretzel NOW (so he can choke to death on it)
then pray cheney gets a heart attack - lopla, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19Bush will attack Iran and the repercussions will bring America to it's knees. Only the Dems can be blamed for this as they failed miserably to do what the American people voted them in to do- IMPEACH.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -22/+36Why wouldn’t he? It’s not like he gives a *****. He’ll just make the biggest mess in history and leave it 4 the next guy (or should I say girl?) to clean it up.
- stealth45, on 10/10/2007, -15/+28If Hilary Clinton is elected, i am moving to Canada.

- navitatl, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16Bush just gives people somewhere to direct their anger. He's just a puppet.
- ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -9/+20Hillary Clinton supports the war in Iran anyways.
- woolleybear, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14neocon scum

- sp1keNARF, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12well, it's not like he'll be able to strike iran AFTER he leaves office...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14*****. You right wingers aren't going to get away with that crap. George Bush and Company are a product of, by and for the American right wing. Now I don't blame you for running and hiding after the Bushy disaster, but it's the right wing's baby. Those of us on the left voted against you bastards.
- dvdrtrgn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I hope you do. Canada needs more red-state losers.
- Chuckanut, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11"He currently serves as a senior foreign policy advisor to Rudy Giuliani in his presidential campaign."
Egad. - Fordi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Chill out, man.
Neocons were the result of a portion of left-wing political science that rejected liberalism as a political ideology. In effect, they decided that they weren't left wing, but couldn't rightly align themselves with the right wingers of the time.
They eventually took over the American right wing, and represent it today.
Unfortunately, because of all this ideology-shifting, all this right-wing, left-wing, liberal, conservative ***** means nothing. Politicans become politicians for various amounts of two reasons:
To help people
To make money
All other political motivations can be extrapolated from that dichotomy of altruism and greed. That is to say, politicians can do both good things and terribly selfish things - and both of our major parties are deeply guilty of selfish acts; never let yourself be fooled.
Meanwhile, I'm not saying that 'both parties are the same', or whatever. Parties attract those with similar ideologies to their majority. What I *am* trying to say is that the ideological labels attached the existing parties are no longer as applicable as they once were.
There's a certain number of axes that can be drawn in political space, for example:
--Market control: Heavily regulate / Aggressively deregulate
--The Liberty/Security compromise: Lock down people to protect them / Allow people complete freedom
--Religious bias: Apply the rules most common in religion to lawkeep government completely secular
--Environment: Protect the environment at any and all costs / Attempt to control environmental contamination via the market
--Efficiency: Streamline processes at an initial cost / Work around existing methods at an ongoing cost
--Technology: Implement new technologies, requiring investment in education / Use older technologies, leveraging current knowledge
--Intellectual property: Protect interests of rights holders / Protect rights of public domain
--Foreign policy: Cultivate a foreign environment that is less dangerous to homeland / Concentrate on issues in homeland
These should all be floating values, mind you, and the standard deviations are just as important as the average marker.
Anyway, those who only think in terms of black and white: You're wrong. Period. It's not that you're misinformed, and it's not that you're an idiot. It's an aliasing error.
In short, your brain works like Flash on low quality - it lets you render out your thoughts quickly, but the resulting output is jagged, ugly, hard to work with, and mathematically incorrect. - dtd00d, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12Bush found a way around the Constitution, I'm sure he can find a way around the congress it made.
- EonZ, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10I would punch this guy Podhoretz if I ever met him in person.
- Kugo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This is possibly a weather balloon. They're leaking the story to see how people react. They always do this - this could be it again. In such case consider the attack on Iran essentially a fait accompli already.
- Fallout911, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9IMPEACH THE ***** GOD DAMNIT!

If you run Hillary's recent rhetoric through your politician-speak to English translator you have Hilary making it quite clear that she is perfectly willing to use military force against Iran. - frazw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Bush will do this so the next President is commited. He wants to force his opinion on the world and he wants people to say it was him who saved us all.
I also think it is correct to say that the world will kick it up a notch with the anti-americanism. I also don't think Britain will be joining in this time, at least I hope not. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5 Norman Podhoretz, member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Project for a New American Century, probably a few others too. Neocon traitor and Israel firster. Our government is packed with these guys top to bottom, the situation in America is incredible, we have no control of our country any longer.
- whiskeymb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Oh don't worry, that won't stop any conservatives from immediately disregarding this as "leftist liberal blog crap" because it came from thinkprogress... the man openly supports bombing iran, just like Bush. However, since a left-wing blog reports this, it's gotta be wrong!
- Fordi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It should be noted that there is no 'ideal' position, other than to eliminate those who score towards the 'greedy' side of the selfishness/public interest axis. You vote for the politicians whose voting records most closely match your own appraisal of laws involved.
You know, it occurs to me that I should construct a website concerning this. I'll have to think on it. - Deaconstructed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Watching the American government is like a horrible tv show that's always on... and despite how horrible it is you can't just cancel it or even really look away... too bad the effects are real with real consequences.
- SmokedL, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Here's a little bit of information in support of FreakyD :
http://www.2decide.com/table.htm
I wonder how many Clinton, Edwards and Obama supporters that will be nastily surprised by that table.
If you don't want another war you have three options. Gravel, Kucinich and Paul. They are the only candidates with the principles and the guts to stand up and categorically refuse to consider another war of aggression an option. Remember that when the time to vote comes around. All the others either think another war of aggression would be OK, or they are too gutless to stand up for what they believe in. To my mind that makes them unfit to hold the office of president. - tehowe, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9I'm starting to think we should stop digging this kruft... it only pushes the idea of an attack on Iran into the mindspace of Americans, so they begin to expect it and desire it - even if they don't want it. Knowhutimean?
- whiskeymb, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I think people give a *****, I think (and the polls support this) that they've totally given up on their federal government in general and the only next step is a full-out V for Vendetta style revolution, which nobody wants to do.
so we'll all just sit at home and bitch to our wives/husbands/gfs/bfs and complain at work and go on doing our thing hoping that the next election brings about change (but didn't we all think that about this last election too!?) - SiNN4R, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5George Bush rose to power and continues to remain in power because people on the left and right are so polarized and frothing at the mouth nobody is able to hold our government accountable. Everything is "their fault". But hey keep on towing those party lines. I'm sure they'll lead you into the promised land.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6The same people that would call her a lesbian would call her a slut if she had even a hint of sexual activity going on.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7"The Democrats stand for nothing."
Actually it is the Republicans who stand for nothing. That's why they always have to bring up the liberals all the time. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Realize this: That's the point.
The most powerful people in the world (the real powers) don't want Iran to grow up big and strong. It's less profitable to them.
Our world survives on the exploitation of the 3rd world. That's the real reason why there aren't any big wars. The economy needs cheap labor, manufacturing, and energy production.
So what the rich countries do is run a cartel of sorts and they hold the smaller ones in line. That's why Russia can use chemical weapons on Chechnians but Saddam can't even talk about them. It's also why the United States can make as many nukes as it wants and give them to any allies, yet Iran can't even get nuke plants.
But the Iranian president is a bad guy... yeah and so was Saddam... and so is the king of Saudi Arabia, Bush family friend.
Remember that a lot of the bad stuff you hear is made up, exaggerated, and out of context. Intentionally.
It's somebody's job to make you think standing up to these bad people is justified. - vr6stress, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7We've lost....
- Fordi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You define yourself as 'on the left', but do you even know what that entails? It's not democrat, nor the currently accepted definition of 'political liberal', despite the terminology used in present day politics.
If you can't even see that, what makes your righteous anger any more useful than the mindless blatherings of O'Reilly or Limbaugh? Absolutism isn't useful in politics, in any portion of the spectrum, except as a target to draw others' hate. You may even get a job being an absolutist figure for your side of an argument - but that only makes you the Emmanuel Goldstien for the portion of the population you most efficiently piss off.
In short, you basically have put yourself directly in the "You're not helping" square. - Aard88, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7There hasn't been a vote to authorize force on Iran.
- tb0n3r, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Oh, of course. As soon as someone turns 30, or has children, then they suddenly feel the desperate urge to:
- Invade other countries on the charge of terrorism, when really, it's just because that country stopped selling their oil in Dollars, and switched to the Euro instead.
- Discriminate against gays, Jews, Mexicans and Arabs
- Put the wants of the international corporations ahead of the needs of their own families.
- Be complete douchebags.
Sounds about right. - Deaconstructed, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7I second that...
- BarleyBueler, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7I can't think of anything more stupid or scarier than an American air strike on Iran, that said we've all been privy to some pretty stupid and scary events in recent times. Its a possibility but like someone said earlier the biggest end result would have to be a revolution in America. I mean after all the ***** the democrats and the general population have let happen over there you would have to think this would be the straw that breaks the camel's (monkey's) back. It probably won't be very fun for you guys, time to get a passport me thinks !! lol
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Yep, it sure would have. But simple insults aren't as effective as pointing out when the right wing is trying to lie their way our of taking responsibility for their failed ideology.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Man, what a laugh. You're not going to pin your ***** ideology on me.
- cherwilco, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6You are a vulgar jackass! Do you even understand the words you are typing? You say that the dems only tell the people what the want to hear just to get into office??? How many times do you need to get LIED to by a conservative republican (all in the name of their private interests!) to KNOW that isn't true. and dont even bring up the only lie bill clinton is remembered for because that ***** doesnt even compare to one weeks worth of ***** from GWB! Your comment does make me wonder though...are you completely blind and deaf (if so how the hell are you on digg??) or are you just the dumbest of the lower 28%?
- asands84, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4They'll turn the channel, grab a bag of pretzels and a bottle of beer, and turn the football game back on. 30% of the people, anyway.
- CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4By ‘I Believe Bush Is Going To Strike Iran Before He Leaves Office', he means he hopes so:
"Well, if we were to bomb the Iranians as I hope and pray we will, we’ll unleash a wave of anti-Americanism all over the world that will make the anti-Americanism we’ve experienced so far look like a lovefest. On the other hand — that’s a worst case scenario, and worst case scenarios don’t always materialize. It’s entirely possible that many countries, particularly in the Middle East — the Sunni countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, who are very worried about Iranian influence and power — would at least secretly applaud us. And I think it’s possible that other countries in Europe, for example, and elsewhere, would be relieved to see the Iranians entirely deprived of the capability to build nuclear weapons, or at least have that ability retarded for five or 10 years or more." - shogeist, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Right before he declares himself "God King" of course. We already know Jesus has a direct-link to him through his left ear. I don't know what you guys are talking about "leaving office".
