- gtguru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22You should have said...
Im doing my part, arrrr you? - cskaterun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Sure, the Pirate Party has been added to Wikipedia's list of political parties, it's not exactly an authoritative list though. A bunch of people who edit Wikipedia are probably also very passionate about DRM. This could jumpstart something but I doubt it. If mainstream news picked it up, that'd be something.
- jool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Yeah pirates never liked the ballet, the peg leg really held them back.
- Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20if you read about the party Bfdhud, this is about much more than a Stunt against the MPAA and RIAA.. This is about BS copyright and Patent laws on everything imaginable.. from drugs, to GM food that is designed to not make new seeds... thus limiting food supplies and creating monopolies on basic things...
Its insaine what has happened the last 25 years in patent and copyright law.. doesnt everyone realize its accually a crime now to even discuss ways to remove copyright protection on protected work?.....copyright laws are now resctricting basic human rights. - macota, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22So let me get this straight:
You won't back a party with a Pirate for an icon, but you're okay with a party that uses an ass?
Makes sense. - Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19i am volenteered as a photographer for them now... got word back from Josh 3 days ago. was suprised considerng how many emails he must be getting to get a quick response.. Though i guess my header of "Will do photographic and graphic design for free" helped..
Im doing my part, Are you? hahah always wanted to say that! - theotherbastard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Oh sure, something shows up on Wikipedia and suddenly its completely legitimate.
After all, you can trust everything you read on the 'net. - B111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Now THAT would be an interesting 2 part system.
- gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16naming yourself thepiratebay wont get any support either
- gDubz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15No serious voter would take a group called the Pirate Party seriously. They'd be better described as an activist group or something of the like.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"too bad it will NEVER get on a ballet"
Why would they want to be on a ballet? I thought they were aiming for ballots? - chapium, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14In other news, the ChuckNorris party has been added to Wikipedia. Hopefully this will jump start the efforts of this party. I won't even start on the associated consequences of a Chuck Norris jumpstart...
- scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15...or you could go to Wiki and read about it, then come back and comment.
- nathan8225, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I am no longer a republican, i am a Pirate!
- Shinta, on 10/12/2007, -9/+17There is something wrong with Communism. It didn't work.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Me: "Mom, Dad....I'm a pirate!"
Parents: "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
Me: "Arrrrrrrr....I mean, NOOOOOO!!!!" - gcube9x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@B111:
It's not like the current ones don't resort to stealthy or unspeakable acts... - Skab, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Now we just need the signatures to make it official.
- Musicdgamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They don't have to win. If enough people start supporting them, then the democrats and republicans will realize that they are losing votes. This will make them start supporting the ideas of the pirate party in order to get these votes back.
- corevette, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6When I posted it yesterday, The Pirate Party had a Wiki page, but now it doesn't.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Christ with all the NSA monitoring just going to that site will probably get me a visit from the moron patrol
- jool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well the Swedish Pirate Party most definitely exists, the question is whether this is just someone who has no serious political ambitions at all and only wants their 15 seconds of web fame or if they are actually serious.
In any case, in the two party system you call democracy in the United States where no one else has a chance it doesn't really matter which case it is. At best they will be something that is made fun of by some talk show. - MightyGiant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You guys are aware that anyone can edit Wikipedia, right? Someone adding this party to a Wikipedia page doesn't mean anything.
- Funkly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5its on the list but the article had been pulled
- B111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Where do I sign? I've heard of the Pirate Party in Sweden, and I think I would join an IP reform political party.
- Skab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4One last thing, a member started this frapper group, so we can get an idea of the locations of members. http://www.frappr.com/pirateparty
- dmron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Come on people, just because someone put it in Wikipedia's "list" doesn't mean a damn thing. The title of this story makes it sound like there was some official hearing in Congress or some ***** and everyone agreed that this party was a good idea. :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4A shame no one will ever take these guys seriously.
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3its irc. not mirc. why would any reptuable server even think of naming it mirc.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Very misleading subject line, but cool nonetheless.
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why wouldnt they be taken serious... not everyone thinks like your dumbass does. Its all about the actions that the Pirateparty will bring forward, as obviously actions speak louder than Words. Currently you are on no ground to judge.
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fully agree with you. The enemy is the RIAA/MPAA/DRM because they take power away from the consumer by putting limits on how somthing that you payed for can be used.
- Shinta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, and there isn't any citation on the page that a Pirate Party even exists. It doesn't mention pirates in the talk or the history, so I'm thinking this modification is very un-Wikipedian. Any thoughts?
- steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3They have my vote. Fo sho.
- Tomcat1944, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I would vote Pirate. Considering both Repubs and Dems are both servants of the New World Order. ***** AUTHORITY!
- schwegler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oddly, I agree with thier platform...
- RodeoRobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Aww great. Now someone has to start the Ninja Party
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Go live in antartica or somthing, I heard they dont have ANY political parties.
- romulusnr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Yeah. Because the public at large, the media, and the government really give a ***** about the most recent edit made to a Wikipedia list article. Bury, for chrissakes.
- wbrendel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@bonchbonchbonch:
I agree with you, and it's a shame you're being buried. The name "Pirate Party" implies piracy, and that is illegal. A name like "Copyright Reform Party" would signal that they were interested in changing the definition of piracy: from the average American copying a music CD to a professional DVD printing facility producing thousands of pirated DVDs per hour. - PacoBell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's one lonely girl there =(
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Pirate Party?"
"Narrr" - mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How aobut this, I can choose my house and I dont have to wait in a line to get one.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3wow people, it was a joke calm down with the modding there...lol
- Shinta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is just more proof to the Flying Spaghetti Monster's existance. Too bad I'm a ninja ='(. So if Pirate is there, I can pick anything from that whole list to join? Whig Party, where do I sign up?
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope they show up at their political conventions and protests actually dressed as pirates! That would be fun!
I would definately join a party like that.... - Skab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://z7.invisionfree.com/Pirate_Party_USA/ that's the unofficial forums from the site.
or you can just join on server mirc.echel0n.net channel #USPirateParty. we just need to be patient right now. soon more information will be given to us about how to make our party official. - cwl157, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1me and my friends had a pirate party but i think it was a different kind of party...
- sbostedor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Pirate = thief. Those of us that hate the RIAA and MPAA because they won't let CUSTOMERS use their purchased movies and music fairly resent the free loading scam artists that make up a party that promotes indiscriminate copyrite violations.
These fools are hurting the cause more than anything else. - gortiswatching, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with the way pirates are going to restructure the corporate economy as far as DRM goes, the trouble is that they will never gain respect from a majority of voters. It is good that they are getting out with grass-roots for more visibility. They will never win in America though. (rationally) Unless they find a small town with a community college and offer students free movies and porn for votes.
