- elosorusso, on 04/19/2008, -4/+61Damn the liberal bias of the pentagon.
- Phokus, on 04/19/2008, -4/+35The sad thing is, the idiots who claim to love the military and are pro-iraq war will somehow find a way to justify ignoring this, just as they've ignored pretty much all signs that this war has been FUBAR these past 5 years.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -2/+24Hardly just "some guy" - The report carries considerable weight because it was written by Joseph Collins , a former senior Pentagon official, and was based in part on interviews with other former senior defense and intelligence officials who played roles in prewar preparations.
It was published by the university's National Institute for Strategic Studies , a Defense Department research center.
Is Bush paying you for damage control? - biotch, on 04/19/2008, -3/+24Man... its gotten to the point now where even if Iraq stabilizes and we were to emerge "victorious" I think it would be hard to argue it was worth it considering the cost (and ongoing cost of veteran benefits), lives lost, lack of threat to begin with, and lost opportunities to address terrorist threats worldwide. This has truly been a blunder of massive proportions. Just imagine if we had diverted all those resources to improve America's productivity, security, health, and education. Its just a damn shame to imagine what we could of accomplished in that time.
- loggia, on 04/19/2008, -1/+21Since the report is cogent, thoughtful and thorough... they'll have to find some irrelevant bit of personal history to slander the guy with.
- GhostyBoy, on 04/19/2008, -1/+20Everybody says "Americans are dying!" or "Iraqis are dying!" or "it's a huge waste of money!"...
Well, what about the war profiteers? Did you ever think about THEIR feelings? They have a lot invested in these wars.
You want to be responsible for them losing money just because you want "peace" or because "the war was based on lies"?
These people have several multi-million dollar homes that they need to pay the mortgage on!
Maybe it's time to consider THEIR needs for a change. - chipsngravy, on 04/19/2008, -3/+22They won't see it. They're too busy watching fox news and masturbating over ann coulter.
- loggia, on 04/19/2008, -1/+17THE FIRST LINE OF HIS STUDY IS: "Measured in blood and treasure, the war in Iraq has achieved the status of a major war and a major debacle."
How do you misinterpret that? Try actually reading his paper before you cry "liberal partisan hackery." - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -4/+19"A major debacle," huh? I guess that's one euphemism for crimes against humanity.
- loggia, on 04/19/2008, -1/+15That IS the FIRST line of his paper. There's a link at the bottom of the article.
- Search153, on 04/19/2008, -1/+14Is there any such thing as victory in a war started on false pretense?
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -6/+16I don't want to hear anymore damn senators talk about the great scarifice of Bush's chief liar, David Petraeus
- S2000, on 04/19/2008, -1/+10Only a major debacle? I'd hate to see what would constitute a catastrophic *****.
- drmobutu, on 04/19/2008, -3/+12Notice how this breaks on a Friday night?
- cheezintern, on 04/19/2008, -4/+12this Joseph Collins must not love America enough. If he did, he'd see how we're gettin the evil doers!
- GhostyBoy, on 04/19/2008, -1/+8Wow, you just generalized every single person with a mortgage as 'stupid white trash'.
I can't imagine what ill-conceived delusions you must have about renters.
Oh, and don't call me 'son'. You are clearly a ***** degenerate douche-bag of the most despicable kind. - loggia, on 04/19/2008, -2/+9How about: THE FIRST LINE OF HIS STUDY IS: "Measured in blood and treasure, the war in Iraq has achieved the status of a major war and a major debacle."
How do you misinterpret that? Try actually reading his paper before you cry "liberal partisan hackery."
And the front page of the paper says "Institute for National Strategic Studies." - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+7Intentionally a quagmire ... easier to make money that way.
What part of that do people not understand? - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -0/+6they also determined water was wet and the sky was actually blue.
- mr5150, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5Anyone finding this a tad little too late? Where were these ***** idiots who decry the war as a futile waste 2 and 3 years ago? Everyone is now scrambling to sure up a safe position under a new presidential administration. This is nothing more than loud mouthing politicking for their own interests. The only winners of this has been Banks, Security Contractors, Weapons Makers and Oil Companies have I missed out on anyone?...ohh yeah and the American public who have to be thankful for the protection of the state from those terrorists who prior to the invasion were everyday folks looking to make a future. America has created a climate for terrorists to grow and florish exponentially...the exact reason we went to war...so as to create a war that will never end.
- SzaszMan, on 04/19/2008, -1/+6Of course this is just liberal partisan hackery. This was just some guy who worked in the janitor's closet in a shed outside the pentagon. It doesn't reflect the time during the wondrous surge-of-victory engineered by our Glorious Leader after 2004. Nothing to see here. Nothing to see here.
- Carl306, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5What's this? Spending American tax dollars within our borders to benefit our own people? Blasphemy!
/sarcasm - azznine9682, on 04/19/2008, -0/+5No *****, the banks are getting money, the middle class is going broke, the poor are depending more on the middle class, and corporations are making larger profit. All the wile people are wondering why we even went to war with a concept (Terrorism) in a country that wasn't even responsible for 911, (the primary reasons for going to war in the first place) and now cannot find weapons of mass destruction either. WTF?! Look at history, when is the actual victory for America in its last 5 wars?! People just don't learn. War=Bank profit+poor death why can't people realize this over countless, and pointless deaths?! Not to mention economic devastations war causes.
- biotch, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4From the author in his paper:
"In November 2001, however,
on the edge of achieving initial military success in Afghanistan,
he asked Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to begin planning
in secret for potential military operations against Iraq. That mission
passed quickly to the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM), headed
by General Tommy Franks, USA.13 Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff General Richard B. Myers, USAF, and Vice Chairman General
Peter Pace, USMC, played a supporting role with the activist Secretary
exercising his legal authority to be the direct supervisor of the combatant
commanders. Most Defense secretaries before this administration
chose to work with the combatant commanders mainly through
the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. The role Secretary Rumsfeld played
in the development of the details of the battle plan and the flow of the
invasion force was unique in recent memory.
It says there that Rumsfeld worked directly with "combatant commanders" instead of working with them through the Joint Chiefs of Staff which is how it is traditionally done. That would constitute "bypassing" the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It says that Rumsfeld's role "in the development of the details" was "unique in recent memory".
Either the author doesnt understand what he just wrote, or the link you provided was false, or he was pressured to downplay his paper. - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+5the NDU is a Defense Department research center.
- nick111, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4Here's an idea: How about all the people who support or vote for things that have really disasterous conseqences, have their voting influence diluted. That way we'll be less likely to be at the mercy of the opinions of easy-to-organise stupid people again.
I know it would be a very dicey thing to measure and implement etc - but there are still 50 million repeat-Bush voters out there. I mean seriously - that biomass of stupidity is a much greater threat to everyone's safety than random bunches of rag-tag criminals who blow things up etc. - Mardala, on 04/19/2008, -0/+4Please Bush, please just keep your mouth shut and stop making any more decisions on anything other than what part of the ranch needs some weeding.
- dn11, on 04/19/2008, -1/+4WOAH, you just raised the bar on "stupid *****" on digg to a whole new level. I'm sure your Haliburton trust fund has served you well Mr. Blue Blood - you certainly live up to your name.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+4Well you certainly didn't help much.
- gernblansted, on 04/19/2008, -0/+3kc8ukw:
Your statement is true for humans in general, especially the ones who think it was a good idea to steal money from unborn children to pay for a war which had little or no forthought which has created countless more life long enemies of the US, destabilized an entire region in favor of US enemies, and is just shy of breaking the back of the US economy and the US military.
Of course to see what a bad job the Neocons did we just had to look at p0s3r's references to Collins himself, who says the "U.S. efforts in Iraq were hobbled by a set of faulty assumptions, a flawed planning effort, and a continuing inability to create security conditions in Iraq that could have fostered meaningful advances in stabilization, reconstruction, and governance. With the best of intentions, the United States toppled a vile, dangerous regime but has been unable to replace it with a stable entity."
No one except Bin Laden wanted to see what we have before us now. Or are my eyes just too closed? - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -2/+5*Watching Fox News, masturbating over Ann Coulter, and sobbing since masturbating makes baby Jesus weep.
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -3/+6Sounds like damage control to me. The NDU has it's name plastered all over it and the FIRST line of his report is ""Measured in blood and treasure, the war in Iraq has achieved the status of a major war and a major debacle."
What exactly is the "liberal" media distorting? I'd very much like to hear that. - inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+3Um, the Pentagon is the DoD HQ so it stands to reason that if the NDU is a DoD institute it is also a Pentagon institute.
- Search153, on 04/19/2008, -1/+3Don't forget to use your [/sarc] tags!
- macinit1138, on 04/19/2008, -1/+3In other news, man finds own ass with both hands!
- pundit8086, on 04/19/2008, -5/+7what is victory?
- biotch, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2look up Vietnam
- orbit1979, on 04/19/2008, -1/+3"Try actually reading his paper before you cry "liberal partisan hackery.""
p0s3r does not have to, p0s3r has Fox News and his/her American flag pin (made in China). Thats all p0s3r needs... - biotch, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2samk,
What the hell man? Thats what his paper says. You literally didnt even look at what you were arguing about. You are what people are talking about when the say "blindly supporting" - Mindzai, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2Debacle...victory. It all depends on your perspective really. Military, not so good. But if you're in the oil services or weapons manufacturing than you just keep on winning. It's almost as if they have something....wait...oh *****!
- inactive, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Bet Papi was pissed off when you came out of the closet. Watch out Im going to tell Domingo Moreira about you.
- SzaszMan, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2Right, because things are so far removed from the realm of debacle now.
/sarc
And "defeatist" my ass - we won already, long ago, after Baghdad was liberated, Saddam was removed, and his sons were picked up. Now we're just lining the pockets of war profiteers, and you're encouraging it. - azznine9682, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2From what I have found doing minimal research, and correct me if I'm wrong. Is the only time we have gotten out of a war is when congress completely shut off the war fund. That means no more money, so they were forced to bring the troops home. This happen in Lebanon, Vietnam, and Korea. Bush keeps requesting money, and our congress are forced by being "patriotic" to grand him more war funds. I think its more patriotic to care for our people, country and liberties. Not oil fields in some other country.
- GhostyBoy, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2Worst troll attempt ever.
- dn11, on 04/19/2008, -0/+2honestly, i can't tell. I think he may be just a general griefer and troll because he seems to make consistently outrageous comments like this.
- SoulDrift404, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1So neocon partisan hackery would be fine then?
- ronjohn, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1nu uhhh commander and cheif told me there was yellow ckae there and I'm still waiting for it!!! He would never lie to me!!!
- LeeSoong, on 04/27/2008, -0/+1the outcome is not in doubt as long as the military can produce
more ammunition than the total number of opponents. - Carl306, on 04/19/2008, -1/+2Dugg for truth
- inactive, on 04/19/2008, -1/+2Buried for being a p0s3r
