OSI gone but programs still in place: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1859
Remember, when they said the OSI is closed.. that WAS the propaganda machine already in effect. - discariot69, on 04/27/2008, -0/+21What? Not proud? Of what? A war criminal and a collection of corporate profiteers running the government? Why would someone say you were a whiner. Any American who loves this country ought to be ashamed right now.
- voteforblank, on 04/27/2008, -7/+26I am not proud to be American right now. I didn't vote for him, so please spare me when you come here to take over our poor Country.
- an0nymous, on 04/27/2008, -1/+19Man, has our capacity for outrage been so reduced? The pentagon's job is to faithfully execute the lawful orders of the President and of the Congress. The military's responsibility to the public (yes, it has one), is to be steadfastly truthful and transparent in its public interactions. Body counts should be accurate (boo, Westmoreland), candid assessments should be candid (Yaay, Shinseki), and any facts should be unslanted rather than serve a political candidate, party, or cause.
The military is America's servant. Any other relationship is unacceptable. - inactive, on 04/27/2008, -3/+17the Pentagon and propaganda? NOOOO Really???!!! The government doesn't lie, the government is good. Why, the government is For the people By the people. No corporate interest influence or control our government. And large corporations have high ethical moral values they would never hurt and lie to the consumers. Money is only secondary. I trust my TV and Hollywood movies. The good guys always win. Everything is black and white.
- inactive, on 04/27/2008, -0/+14Bring them the ***** home.
- mafftom, on 04/27/2008, -5/+18You are a true nut aren't you? What experience of the British media do you really have, honestly, speak the truth and don't preach your opinion. The BBC is one of the most impartial news organisations in the world, Why does their always have to be some kind of conspiracy? I was in Iraq for the invasion in 2003 and the BBC broadcast what was happening to the best of their knowledge and everybodys knowledge in fact most of the things they broadcast was exact and people back home knew what was going on even before the troops did, so i'd say you get a pretty damn good service for your money, wouldn't you? Obviously not. The BBC broadcast news and not an opinion whether it is the most popular opinion of the time or not, they just inform you of the facts, on a more serious note, are you actually annoyed with the BBC at all or are you just annoyed at the way Britain is going lately, because I can't think of any other solid grounds for your completely naive comment.
- psylence, on 04/27/2008, -0/+12"These e-mails would come from a .com return address rather than .mil to hide the Pentagon's role."
OH! They got us good now! - freezeout, on 04/27/2008, -0/+12lets see now, General Electric for example, owns MSNBC but also produces military hardware. hmmm....
- nonchai, on 04/27/2008, -4/+14Oh and you'd prefer the "accuracy" of the Sun, Daily Mail, Fox News I suppose ?. Sure we pay for our BBC here and Im proud to do so. Our journalism is the best in the world and unlike so many news outlets in other countries - is not afraid to ask the hard questions and hold politicians to account.
Compared to what the US networks have to offer ( and how they cowtowed to the Bush mob before and during the iraq war ) the BBC is a jewel in a sea of corporate financed propaganda.
Now not all BBC content is good - they could get rid of BBC3 which is just a juvenile attemt to emulate the more populist parts of Channel4 youth entertainment, but our documentaries and journalism are the best in the world. - InfidelAl, on 04/27/2008, -7/+17Use propaganda in a war? Shocked, shocked I tell you.
- pintomp3, on 04/27/2008, -0/+10the first casualty of war is the truth. the corporate media and military contractors like GE wanted the war to happen because it increases ratings. they profit from the war both directly and indirectly.
- areyouserial, on 04/27/2008, -2/+11SuperMoses is right on. The media continues to do the audience a disservice by framing this as if this is some surprising revelation. Just weeks ago on digg there was an article exposing internal docs on how the Pentagon is planning to embed (more?) agents into overseas news agencies which, they admitted openly, had more credibility to US audiences than US media outlets. If I remember correctly, propaganda targeting US citizens is supposed to be illegal, isn't it?
- averagejoesgym, on 04/27/2008, -1/+10I've seen a few posts on here that, if not directly, insinuate that this is all overblown or that the BBC is a liberal propaganda tool or that the Pentagon has been up front from the beginning. The truth is this is a HORRIBLE situation and is completely immoral, unpatriotic, and possibly illegal. For instance, one poster cites a Fox News Story from 2002. That story is nothing but more spin. For example, it has the passage: "they may very well do things that will lead people in that enclave to think they're coming in from the north instead of the west and that would be characterized as tactical deception." he said (referring to Rumsfeld). This clearly is CLEARLY intentionally misleading to make it appear as if the OSI amounts to nothing more than the usual wartime propaganda used to throw off or otherwise demoralize the enemy. That is a complete lie. This propaganda has been all over the mainstream media, including being fed to Americans. Those Generals paid by the Pentagon were reciting talking points on American television. Another news story from CNN in 2002 is cited. It also shows the unwillingness of our government to tell American citizens the truth. It contains the following: ""influence the hearts and minds of the opposition....The office was quietly set up after September 11 as part of the Bush administration's overall effort to reach Islamic populations around the world....Information operations have been a major part of the military campaign in Afghanistan, with radio broadcasts by Commando Solo airplanes, the U.S. Air Force's airborne radio and TV broadcast mission, and extensive airdropping of leaflets....Some broadcasts have been received on shortwave radio in the United States." Again, more lies. Again, the DoD was being intentionally misleading (same as lying in my book) by making it appear that this was solely a military-related propaganda operation targeted at a limited audience of enemy troops and their sympathizers. Lies, lies, lies. This Pentagon propaganda machine has been planting bogus or misleading information throughout the world, in the mainstream media, and directly at Westerners (and Americans themselves no less). To all the people on here playing this down on here or otherwise spinning it, you might want to check the mail, your paycheck from the Pentagon, or Fox News, or the White House or Haliburton, is in.
- IIAmusedII, on 04/27/2008, -2/+10Just think how much more evil it would be if it were the Hexagon or the Septagon.
- SuperMoses, on 04/27/2008, -3/+11I'm not defending the BBC. I also posted news articles from fox, cnn, and the guardian. The point is, media WILL write an article or two about these things but they'll quickly sweep it under the rug and forget about.
- scubajim, on 04/27/2008, -0/+8And GE is currently selling to Iran. Hmm...
- FDDIcent, on 04/27/2008, -5/+13Try checking out the Al Jazeera news site. They tend to have decently unbiased articles and cover the same material as the BBC and CNN. Figures, the news agency that we consider terrorists are more "fair and balanced" then any of our news coverage.
http://english.aljazeera.net/English - Spottswood, on 04/27/2008, -1/+8Give them pensions, healthcare, and the proper equipment when they go to battle
oh wait, there's a recession, ok scrap all of those ideas lets just keep think in iraq while they get shot at, go insane, and return homeless - jimjoebobbillyb, on 04/27/2008, -0/+7I'd reply, but I'm too busy talking with Santa Claus and Jesus about the Tooth Fairy's inappropriate behavior in front of the Buddha.
- sentime, on 04/27/2008, -0/+7Why? Cause the multinational corporations own the media and they own the government. Duh!
- mcrosby, on 04/27/2008, -0/+6Its worth mentioning that the UK licence payer (via the government) only pays for the UK broadcasts. The BBC have to fund international broadcasts with private money. The BBC World News channel for instance is funded by BBC Worldwide (advertising, merchandising, etc.)
- inactive, on 04/27/2008, -0/+6 We are worse than Soviet Russia in that they all knew their media was garbage because the lies were so blatant. Here the illusion of free press and honest brokers of information is so well crafter that people are liable to put more faith in the system.
When you understand who operates the media and look at who helped George bush go to war things will start to fall in place. http://www.natvan.com/who-rules-america/ - northernmunky, on 04/27/2008, -3/+9Still believe you're the best example of a free country? Hey... I don't blame all the American people... I'm sure most of you believe in the values you claim to cherish..
but seriously... right now Americas behaviour as a whole truly disgusts me.
You keep your propaganda in your own country thank you very much. - ciaran036, on 04/27/2008, -0/+5Doesn't matter who you vote for! Hillary, Obama or McCain it does not matter they are all the same puppets saying slightly different things.
- 69fezz96, on 04/27/2008, -0/+5How much more obvious could it get that the military industrial complex is taking us/U.S. over the cliff?
Watch this video and see what they've been up to. Support our troops, bring 'em home and stop using them as mercenaries for big business!
http://quicksilverscreen.com/watch?video=44710 - an0nymous, on 04/27/2008, -2/+7The Army has a responsibility to always be honest in any interaction with the public. This story is about the Joint Chief's abrogration of that resposibility AND the MSM's complete complicity.
- inactive, on 04/27/2008, -1/+6OMFG, someone from the UK is criticizing the USA, now thats funny.
- jimjoebobbillyb, on 04/27/2008, -3/+7oh, right, of COURSE. so they just HAPPENED to have the building already set up to demolish with explosives before that day? because it was damaged by the OTHER planes that hit the OTHER towers the day before??
think, jackass!!
rigging a building to implode like that TAKES TIME, like a couple days, go look up "controlled demolitions, inc" and see what they say.
You think that they 1)realized building 7 was damaged beyond repair, 2) set up the demolitions company to rig the building 3) got clearance to "pull" the building---ALL within 8 hours of WTC 1 and 2 being hit, in the midst of the confusion and panic?!?!?
dude, where do you get your pot?
the only explanation is that it was set up beforehand. In other obvious news,The towers fell down at the speed of gravity (which CAN'T happen unless all floors are comprimised at the same time....uhhhh via EXPLOSIVES PLANTED IN THE BUILDING...duuhhhhh)
also.....jet fuel's top possible burn temperature is 1800 degrees F. the structural steel holding up WTC was certified by Underwrites Laboratory to withstand temperatures ABOVE 2000 degrees F.
e-z conclusion?? Jet fuel did NOT melt the inside of the towers! it's mathematically and physically impossible!
how do I know? I can tell WHICH number is greater!! can you??
1800? or 2000? which is greater??
I'll letcha think about it, mmkay? - Ne007, on 04/27/2008, -0/+4I think a lot more people are starting to realize that mainstream media is garbage.
Well, on one side you got free thinking people who can see the propaganda a mile away. On the other side you got religious nutjobs who take everything that comes from the TV to heart and refuse to believe that there is an agenda. - monroylobo, on 04/27/2008, -0/+4SWOOSH! The whole point of the post just went over your head...
- blagoaw, on 04/27/2008, -0/+4I think I'll be "that guy" and mention that I've been aware of this since it was reported all around the first time. So yes.. the BBC, CNN, and assorted members of the general public have been aware that this might be taking place. An interesting thing to note is that this was announced before the Iraq war began. It's quite possible that the disinformation that set the stage for the war wasn't constrained to just a certain infamous presentation to the UN Security Council.
- FairDinkumMate, on 04/27/2008, -2/+5OMFG - An American unable to see that maybe all is not perfect in the land of the free, now thats funny!
- ciaran036, on 04/27/2008, -0/+3Not really. Most people think they're getting the truth told in the mass media. But clearly not.
- crowbar77, on 04/27/2008, -0/+3Basically i was just giving an example of government propaganda. If you don't support the war, your dont support the troops.
- inactive, on 04/27/2008, -1/+3when are we _not_ at war, again?
- mwrl, on 04/27/2008, -1/+3I have been in the military for years and there has never, in the history of the US, been a military mission that could pull off 9/11 the way the crazies think the government did. Sorry, there is far too much of a paper trail for anything that we do.
- BlacklabelSAR, on 04/27/2008, -0/+2By not supporting an administration that wastes their lives. That's what you meant, right?
- inactive, on 04/27/2008, -0/+2I dugg you up man, dude don't get me wrong but my teachers in school would never get impressed with essays without breaks and paragraphs.
- crowbar77, on 04/27/2008, -0/+2That was the whole point, i was making fun of it. Just more gov't propaganda.
- BlacklabelSAR, on 04/27/2008, -0/+2mrzack, you have been found guilty of dirision and contempt for authority. Tsk tsk mrzack, and you were once free to obey. The State appreciates your implied consent to now harvest your organs for the good of the Homeland.

- jimjoebobbillyb, on 04/27/2008, -2/+4Nice thought policing there, officer!
Thierry Masson is the Frenchman's name, I believe.
ask yourself this: how much MONEY are defense contractors making now? That's a clearer answer to why various governments contributed a LITTLE bit to the wars we're fighting now.
It's mostly the US and Britain that's committed themselves to these conflicts.
another question for the spook--How many Western governments believed Hitler when his government claimed that "Dutch terrorists burned their Parliament building"??
2, meet 2.
or just believe EVERYTHING your government says and be a good little boy!! now keep buying *****!!! - ciaran036, on 04/27/2008, -0/+2There's no such thing as a "liberal media".
- neko6, on 04/27/2008, -2/+4BBC is one of the worst propaganda machines, see for instance this rant:

Seems to now have a retirement plan for ex-military officials
As if their opinion was at all unbiased
A machine shouldn't speak for men
So shut the ***** up you mindless drone!
And you know it's serious
When these same media outfits are spending millions of dollars on a PR campaign
To try to convince you they're fair and balanced
When they're some of the most ignorant, and racist people
Giving that type of mentality a safe haven
We act like we share in the spoils of war that they do
We die in wars, we don't get the contracts to make money off 'em afterwards!
We don't get weapons contracts, *****!
We don't get cheap labor for our companies, *****!
We are cheap labor, *****!
Turn off the news and read, *****!
