Pelosi Calls Bush a 'Total Failure' With 'No Ideas'
politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday called President Bush "a total failure" — among the Democrat's harshest assessments to date of the Commander-In-Chief. "God bless him, bless his heart, President of the United States — a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject'

- humanerror, on 07/18/2008, -11/+24Bush is a "total failure"?
Now now, Pelosi. That's no way to talk about your future cell mate. - daRoach, on 07/18/2008, -2/+30Exactly, the democrats have had the majority of the house and the senate for almost 2 years now and after promising changes have failed to deliver. I'm surprised more democrats are not outraged at their own party leaders for doing nothing in such a crucial time.
- LLamaStar, on 07/18/2008, -3/+2yeah that 1 vote...huge majority.
- CryRightardCry, on 07/18/2008, -1/+7Their failure is a source of HUGE disappointment for millions of Americans.
- forceeffect, on 07/18/2008, -10/+4They still keep getting cockblocked by Bush's abuse of the triumvirate of checks and balance. I'm surprised this is news to anyone.
She explains in that same interview:
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2008/07/ ...- GnralHavoc, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3You start blaming the checks and balances system they're going to take that away too. With all do respect checks and balances may impede the government but it also keeps it from becoming one sided.
I think we need that now more then ever since this government is headed in the wrong direction. - wirerat1, on 07/18/2008, -1/+10Give me a break, that is why she won't pursue Bush for impeachment and rolled over on immunity for the telecoms. Pelosi is just as bad as Bush. She isn't the victim here... She is a worthless democrat who happened to be in the right place at the right time to get the Speaker's job... She has failed miserably.
- forceeffect, on 07/18/2008, -3/+3I'm not blaming the checks and balances system and I agree with you. I'm blaming a corrupt Administration and a scared-***** democracy for allowing said corrupt Administration to seize total control of said system meant to (all together now) check and balance. When they did that, there was no check and balance left.
When we voted to have a democratically controlled house and congress, that's only one third of the power we got back, not a majority. I think people are failing to realize one third is not the majority of the total system, so it's no surprise to me that Congress has been blocked on making any real change. I think they've mainly just managed to contain our idiot president and prevent further disastrous policies. - forceeffect, on 07/18/2008, -3/+1I wouldn't blame congress for passing the telecom immunity, even though I am outraged by it. Believe me, I HATE that we now have a legal Big Brother.
But here's the deal. Unless you want to destroy more American corporations, the telecoms probably did need immunity just to keep the economy (as a whole) still afloat instead of imploding. If we had prosecuted the telecoms for doing their jobs (see also: The Patriot Act), as much as I'd like to punish them, it would hurt us more than it would help (massive job loss, massive loss of cell phone service, mass communications shut down, mass stock plunge, massive economic hit). We just need a President that isn't going to get our American companies into this predicament in the first place.
- GnralHavoc, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3You start blaming the checks and balances system they're going to take that away too. With all do respect checks and balances may impede the government but it also keeps it from becoming one sided.
- sk11, on 07/18/2008, -3/+11Because she fails hard time.
- blackinthmiddle, on 07/18/2008, -1/+13As a registered democrat, I've been down on Pelosi for a while now. She wasn't put in the position she's in just so she can say she's the first female speaker of the house. She's pretty much turned a blind eye to Bush and what he's done. While there's probably not enough people with spines to impeach Bush, Nancy backing Kucinich would have at least let me see she's more interested in doing her job than making sure her financial gravy train is protected.
I pretty much lost all respect for her when she spoke out against Hillary and Harvey Weinstein threatened her and other dems, financially. She folded like a cheap lawn chair and let everyone know where her priorities lie. - DestroyFascism, on 07/18/2008, -2/+11Show business. All ***** and no bite.

I know I am not politically savvy or didn't get a Political Science Degree from Harvard, Yale, Stanford, or Berkley. But come on you can't just point the finger at someone else when both sides are to blame.- blackinthmiddle, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Agreed. Years ago I was programming for a big pharma corporation and there was a bug in production that everyone was making a big stink about. I had just taken over for another guy, was there for a few months and everyone was coming down hard on me. I finally stated, "Hey, I've never even seen this code before. It's definitely not my fault!"
My boss pulled me to the side and said, "Look, we know you didn't write the code. However, you can't use that as an excuse. Otherwise, we could have hired anybody to say, "It was the other guy!"
If Nancy's trying to say that the problem is too big for her to solve because others before her screwed up so much or just the nature of government being what it is, then she should have never taken the job. But once you take the job, you want to at least be able to look back and say, "Hey, here's what I'm proud of."
- blackinthmiddle, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Agreed. Years ago I was programming for a big pharma corporation and there was a bug in production that everyone was making a big stink about. - GSnake, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5The dems are in bed with the GOP, Pelosi is just as much of a total failure, if not more, than Bush (I say this as a political independent, they're both ***** horrific at their jobs). Most people expect absurdities with Bush, but the American people expected resolve from the DEMOCRATIC congress when they went into power. Instead, it's a giant daisy-chain circle jerk with no consideration for who matters most, the citizens.
Democrats and Republicans? They're the same entity with different names and different talking mouths.
- saxmaster, on 07/17/2008, -19/+8So she wants to release 10% of the oil from the national strategic reserve to lower the price, then buy the oil back at a lower price? - pweegar, on 07/18/2008, -2/+3Only when it's to her advantage, meaning election time. We need to open our own oil fields for drilling. - farmerjohn48pan, on 07/18/2008, -2/+2Been waiting for someone to bring this up. She has admitted that increasing the supply will lower the price. In fact, the Dems even started putting harsh wording in legislation towards Iran not long after they were awarded majority.
And has she ever said anything remotely intelligent about economics and how a market works? I think not.

Our Government has failed us. There are no balances or checks left (Hello Bush not being tried for war crimes or treason; The Government granting IMMUNITY for corporations to violate our rights granted to us by the Document they (The Government) are sworn to protect).

- Caffeinate, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Wow, daRoach. That is a poignant rebuttal there - "tin foil hat".
Just remember, everyone, if you have no counter-argument, no facts, and someone makes an excellent point, label them and/or their point as needing a "tin foil hat". Attempting to discredit people and shame them by implying that they are a nutjob (and by extension any who may agree with them) is an excellent debate technique.
I've heard a lot of people scream "tin foil hat" conspiracy. For a long time, even breathing the words "Guantanomo" and and "detention center" got a person immediately labeled as needing a tin foil hat. Sadly, the people screaming "wear a tin foil hat!" were angry because the wool they were trying to pull wasn't enough to cover the eyes of the public.

Pelosi can't do her job as Speaker and Congress is getting its lowest marks in history, so she feels the need to lash out at someone. And since Bush is agreeably easy to pick on...
There was another story recently about Pelosi attacking Bush for his energy policies, but apparently no one informed her that the Congress can make laws, not just spend their time naming post offices and congratulating whoever won the last major sporting event.

- jocknerd, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5The problem with the approval ratings in Congress is its a national poll. But if you ask anyone how their congressperson is doing, they'll say that their own representative is doing a good job. Thats why nobody ever gets voted out even though as a whole, they suck.
- Izult, on 07/18/2008, -1/+4everyone I talk to in Oregon thinks their reps with very few exceptions are complete and utter sell outs. The problem is people elect their reps and then forget about it until the next time they're up for re-election. If you leave a bunch of 3 year olds alone in a room do you just leave them alone for 8 hours or do you check in every now and again to make sure they're ok and haven't really done something to hurt themselves or others? Same kind of think on a much larger scale. Our duty as citizens doesn't end when we walk out of the voting booth or get out of jury duty.

- JBrown99, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2While I agree that the prequels sucked, the 'Episode IV: ANH' part was added when Empire came out (as it was titled Episode V). So it kind of makes sense to call it that.

- p0werusersareus, on 07/18/2008, -12/+19We are all going to Email Pelosi right now and tell her what a LOSER she is for saying that she will stike down any legislation calling for offshore drilling at her website: speaker.gov
The MAJORITY of the American People BOTH Democrate and Republicans want offshore drilling to start now in order to create new jobs, lower gas prices, and especially END our dependancy on foreign oil which sends billions of U.S. Dolars to terrorist countries.
George W. Bush has a low approval rating but Congress has an even LOWER approval rating of 97% which means that the majority of Americans know that Congress is not doing ANYTHING to help American families and this is outrageous!
So TELL Pelosi to DO SOMETHING!- BigW, on 07/18/2008, -4/+9Its funny how the Democrats say that drilling won't do anything about the speculators rise in prices, because it'll take years to get the oil, but then the speculators raise prices based on a report that says in 2013 the demand for oil will outstrip the surplus.
You are completely correct, when you don't have enough of something, you go get more. And when someone else has you over a barrel providing you with something, you go get it yourself.
The Democrats need to really watch out here. People are PISSED about the price of gas and the fact that we are being taken for a ride by a bunch of groups. We want to see something done and something done now. They've been arguing for nearly 8 years against drilling in ANWR because "it won't have an impact in time," but if they'd have made the right decision about ANWR 8 years ago, that oil would be on the market now.
Congress has utterly failed the public on so many things lately. In my opinion, if we keep playing the same political games the parties have been playing lately, congress could just as well stop meeting, they're doing virtually nothing already.- Fallenshadow, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3you sound like a drug addict.

- marx2k, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2I can't imagine that drilling in ANWR is going to help the American dollar. So you'd still be screwed.
- Anntink, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3Please!@ They don't REALLY want to drill for more oil! Why should they? They're making record profits now! More oil means lower prices. Oil companies already have leases on thousands of acres of land owned by the US government (US) and they aren't even using those! This is just an excuse for oil execs to ensure they have a monopoly on all oil in the US. If they were really interested in drilling for oil, they have started it on the land leased years ago!
- senatorpjt, on 07/18/2008, -0/+2Or, you could just stop the speculators.
- mahdaeng, on 07/18/2008, -1/+5I just sent the following email to her via the web site you posted:
[[
Dear Madam Speaker,
I recently read an article about your interview with Wolf Blitzer in which you referred to the Commander in Chief as a "total failure" (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/17/pe ...
I find such a comment from you to be extremely hypocritical. While I do not agree with President Bush in every particular, and in fact disagree with him on many issues, I must admit that he has at least attempted to institute policies and make decisions that he believes to be in the best interest of the country. Whether or not these decisions have resulted in the greatest possible benefit for the American people is certainly open for debate.
Can you say the same for yourself, Ms. Pelosi? You ran for the office of Speaker of the House promising the moon and the stars to the American people. What have you accomplished since you were elected? Could we not also say that you have been a total failure?
If you would like to read a sampling of what a cross-section of America thinks of your performance, please see the comments found at the following web site:
http://digg.com/politics/Pelosi_Calls_Bush_a_Total ...
It is my sincerest desire that each of our elected officials will dedicate himself to the good of our country, put aside political positioning and name calling, and work in all integrity and sincerity of heart to move our country forward in all areas. I ask you, and all of our country's leaders, to do nothing less than this.
]]- wesdenton, on 07/18/2008, -3/+1"I must admit that he has at least attempted to institute policies and make decisions that he believes to be in the best interest of the country."
You think Bush as "attempted" to institute policies that are in the best interest of the country? Are you crazy? Bush is only self interested for himself, his family and his cronies. He doesn't give a damn about you or this country.
- wesdenton, on 07/18/2008, -3/+1"I must admit that he has at least attempted to institute policies and make decisions that he believes to be in the best interest of the country."
- shibatoman, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1PLEASE stop WRITING your COMMENT like THAT!!!!!!!
- BigW, on 07/18/2008, -4/+9Its funny how the Democrats say that drilling won't do anything about the speculators rise in prices, because it'll take years to get the oil, but then the speculators raise prices based on a report that says in 2013 the demand for oil will outstrip the surplus.
- LoneRanger85, on 07/18/2008, -8/+31Pelosi should talk. She and Reid have led the Congress to 9 percent approval ratings. These people seem to forget they're up for reelection this November. If they hold on this ridiculous drilling ban, they're out.
- senatorpjt, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1Yeah, instead of 99% of congress getting re-elected, it'll drop to 98%?
- davidmesaaz, on 07/18/2008, -4/+20The only institution that has a lower approval rating than the White House is the Congress. That is kind of calling the kettle black.
- Hellman109, on 07/18/2008, -1/+24Shes clearly trying to play the 'congress is good, its the president thats bad!' game even though she has PERSONALLY caused the problems to continue and escalate.
She is just as incompetent as Bush. - CheeseNRice, on 07/18/2008, -2/+7So I have seen the same story show up 2 or more times on digg before, but both on the front page, at the same time with only one article between them. Awesome.
- forgottenhope, on 07/18/2008, -6/+27First off the president should have little to do with the economy 2nd, ***** nancy pelosi, she is a traitor.
Anyone who would take away the tools of the constitution to impeach a president who breaks the law should be removed from office. ***** partisan and ***** how voters would interpret an impeachment.
If you lie to people and kill hundreds of thousands of people who would have otherwise been alive, there is genocide.
Nancy Pelosi is a total failure as a house speaker. ***** you and george bush, you are both in the same party. the prick lovers party.- zaptoman, on 07/18/2008, -3/+4"If you lie to people and kill hundreds of thousands of people who would have otherwise been alive, there is GENOCIDE."
When we start redefining words to mean anything we want, the words themselves lose all meaning. Genocide is the mass destruction of a single people group. Please educate yourself and stop posting nonsense.- anachronaut, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2Take a look at a little thing called "The 8 Stages of Genocide"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide#Stages_of_ge ...
The situation with America's little "War on Terror" currently meets an alarming number of those 8 criteria (one could even argue that it meets all 8 criteria in some measure). The truth is pretty disturbing when it's as ugly as this. - zaptoman, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Wow. Has thinking really gotten this difficult? If I match criteria with a butterfly, (I breathe oxygen, have legs, am carbon-based, live on earth, require sustenence) but not others (am not an insect, do not fly, etc) I am not a butterfly. Words must have meaning. When you use them to define everything they were not designed to define, they become worthless. Every time someone calls bush a nazi, fascist, says we're commiting genocide etc - they are not expressing facts, they are stating rather stating "I don't like George Bush/ what we're doing in Iraq, and think it's wrong". So instead of confusing word meanings, they should just say that.

- mikemil828, on 07/18/2008, -1/+7From the looks of the Digg front page, it looks like diggers seem to hate Pelosi what with two articles on the same thing.
- maxer64, on 07/18/2008, -1/+11Hmm.. I thought I'd have something to add. But the ineptitude, inaction, and hypocrisy of Pelosi and Congress has pretty well been described in the previous 25 comments.
- hasslinthehoff, on 07/18/2008, -0/+16Because it's so much easier to mock the opposing party of fellow elites than actually do anything for the average American citizen, I applaud your uselessness, Mrs. Pelosi. Keep up the worthless, tedious rhetoric!

"You know, God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States, a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject," Pelosi replied.
Pot, meet Kettle. Kettle, pot. You had your chance to do something about this and you refused. From where I'm sitting this makes you a bigger failure. Here's hoping the people of California recognize this and refuse to re-elect you when your term is up.- shitforbrains, on 07/18/2008, -2/+2"Bless his heart" is a southern expression that means "oh my god, he's an idiot". i.e. "Look at him play with the dust in the window, bless his heart." or "When they got divorced she convinced him to give up the house, bless his heart."
If only someone would remind Nancy Pelosi that she's a Democrat, she might get something done, bless her heart.

- merlin5, on 07/18/2008, -1/+12If I try really hard to understand her, I cant. She makes absolutely no sense to me. She seems so scattered and clueless I cant even accuse her of being evil.
- kemp34, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2It's a good rouse.
- mahdaeng, on 07/18/2008, -1/+13And Pelosi, in the meantime, has led the House to ever increasing levels of non-effectiveness.

- roddack, on 07/18/2008, -2/+5Hey Pot how is kettle doing?
- rottencod, on 07/18/2008, -0/+9If Bush is a total failure with no ideas, why does she keep caving in to him? This is just election year hyperbole. If she actually meant what she says, she would have gotten the Democrats to DO something with the mandate they got in 2006. Instead, they've given in on every issue despite the extreme unpopularity of the President. I say in November we should vote for ANYONE who isn't an incumbent, regardless of party.
- jordansmith123, on 07/18/2008, -1/+6I could've sworn i've seen the same title, must be Déjà vu
- bensone1, on 07/18/2008, -2/+4buried because there is the same post right next to it on the front page
- Codylan, on 07/18/2008, -2/+4Pelosi who?
- kreatre2007, on 07/18/2008, -7/+5She's one to talk!!! What the hell has she and the Democrat congress accomplished accept harming the U.S. economy with their liberal policies? Instead of doing good for the country, this woman has stood in the way of progress. If Bush is a failure, why have we not seen new terrorist attacks here in the U.S.? Does she even explain why Congress (led by her and Harry Reid) has a lower approval rating than President Bush? This woman is a hack.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 07/18/2008, -1/+2You think the Democrats are harming us with LIBERAL policies?
Where are they?
We haven't had anything but token Liberals since Carter. Theft and graft are NOT Democratic principles -- nor are they Republican. Oversight, and education and the common good are -- I'm not seeing that.
The Democrats look like the Republicans of 30 years ago, and the Republicans look like insane freaks. - marx2k, on 07/18/2008, -0/+3"If Bush is a failure, why have we not seen new terrorist attacks here in the U.S.?"
Are you serious?- jstancom, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1That is a logical fallacy. Who is to say Al-Qaeda is even trying again?
Plus, Al-Qaeda has fallen apart and now mostly resides in the Middle East, East Asia, and in northern Africa fighting local engagements. They actually view Shiites as more of a threat to their organization than Americans. But if they wanted to enter the United States and carry out another attack, I basically know they could.
The War on Terror can only be won by eliminating the conditions and ideologies behind Islamist terrorism. We cannot simply "prevent the next attack." That's like being a hockey goalie where the players and the puck are invisible during an indefinite game.
Bush's policies have produced an international system more paranoid and fragmented than any terrorist attack could ever achieve. By fighting Iraq, he has indirectly strengthened Iran by removing their main rival. Iran is the true key player in terrorism, financing and giving weapons to Hezbollah and other Islamist militant organizations. By fighting in Iraq, we have increased Al-Qaeda's numbers and our troops for a long time were not fighting Iraqis, but foreigners fighting for Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. Al-Qaeda was essentially destroyed, however the war in Iraq has made them even more powerful than before, with people lining up to fight. - marx2k, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1jstancom: I agree with most of what you said but America exports a ton of weapons to our [questionable] allies as well and always has.

- flink405, on 07/18/2008, -1/+6And why wasn´t the CNN reporter be tougher on Pelosi? Ask her more questions about how she is the failure.
Pelosi is the total failure.
At least we can all vote in a new President, but only the people of California can vote her out of office. (Perhaps California Gov. Arnold S. will run against her. We can only hope!)- vibrate, on 07/18/2008, -0/+4GET TO THE CHOPPA

- WiretapStudios, on 07/18/2008, -2/+12Traitor. Just like most of the people making decisions in DC at the moment, Republican OR Democrat. One kicked us in the nuts and the next just walked by and didn't even help us up.
- GnralHavoc, on 07/18/2008, -1/+3You are right. That is the sad part. Ready for round II? Because I doubt McCain or Obama will be any better.

Nancy is washed up. - Ne007, on 07/18/2008, -2/+8Bush is a complete failure, yes, but the Democrats have failed also. We put you in there to fight Bush and what do you do? NOTHING!
- FredFredrickson, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1They've all failed us. Republicans are the reason why Democrats had to go in and try to "save" things after all.
- FredFredrickson, on 07/18/2008, -1/+1What, and the Republicans have been trying to fix things too? Get your ***** head on straight - they are the reason we're in this *****-hole disaster.
