Here is Palin's response to a candidate questionnaire for the Alaska 2006 gubernatorial race:
11. Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?
SP: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance - Lula87, on 09/01/2008, -17/+173This woman needs to go back to writing speeches for pagaent girls.
"If I could wish for anything, it would be world peace, and a personalized assault rifle" - johnnr2, on 08/31/2008, -18/+156roflmao
- reed311, on 09/01/2008, -19/+156I'm sick of all these Palin stories, but this one is actually pretty hilarious.
- thepoliticalcat, on 09/01/2008, -9/+123She's a fundie wingnut Dominionist who doesn't believe that married couples should use contraception.
- kingofinternet, on 09/01/2008, -17/+108problem is pals, a lot of people think the same, and they'll vote for her.
... because they're also ignorant. - Carv, on 09/01/2008, -13/+100Had a Democrat done this? "UNPATRIOTIC!"
I am so ecstatic to see her debate Biden. - booksnmore4you, on 09/01/2008, -12/+97Aren't we tired of a non-intellectual in the Whitehouse?
- blueboy2000, on 08/31/2008, -9/+87Still, the fact she actually believes this is a stark reminder that she was not vetted.
- skiner24, on 09/01/2008, -5/+71The best part was, "Good Lord, she is the female George Bush,"
- sapphire9488, on 09/01/2008, -7/+64Wow. When I saw this I really thought this was a new article from The Onion.
- JekJob, on 09/01/2008, -13/+68LOL.
Come on, this is like elementary school stuff. - inactive, on 09/01/2008, -9/+58Sadly most McCain followers wouldn't realize she's mistaken.
- SnapDragon86, on 09/01/2008, -6/+53im not satisfied until i see 20 palin stories a day, so far its only been 14
- Zippo, on 09/01/2008, -8/+54And the whole "under God" ***** wasn't added until 1951...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance# ... - algaeturd, on 09/01/2008, -6/+53This isn't going to bother the Repugs...they don't know or care a single thing about the founding fathers. Not to mention the fact that most of them probably couldn't name the year this country was founded. So once again, it'll be another bare fact they choose to ignore as 'useless.'
This is not a 'useless' mistake. This is a perfect example of exactly how unqualified she is as a potential VP and how ignorant she is in terms of American history.
I've done with uneducated, ignorant people in the White House. I've had my fill of 8 years of rich people with no time or concern for facts, logic or a real education. - JenniferInMO, on 09/01/2008, -15/+61Maybe she thinks the founding fathers were christian clergy. Although I can't bring myself to dislike Huckabee, I remember when he said that.
- Lane, on 09/01/2008, -6/+50cue are you smarter than a 5th grader? music*
- thepoliticalcat, on 09/01/2008, -13/+53Oh, yeah, and she attended college on an athletic scholarship. Plus, she never won that beauty contest, just placed.
- mariofreak85, on 09/01/2008, -2/+40um, the "under god" part was added in the 1950's.
- mickstephenson, on 09/01/2008, -6/+41It's really hard to believe this woman can be that stupid, I mean I am not even American and I knew this. If you asked her to recite it, she'd probably come out with this...
" Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done,.... etc" - mikelieman, on 09/01/2008, -3/+38If she wasn't a nitwit, would she have taken the gig?
- inactive, on 09/01/2008, -10/+43That, and the earth is 6000 years old, It's okay to ignore the fact that your child is being born, Global warming is...no big deal... and now this?
- kschramm, on 09/01/2008, -10/+40This really makes you wonder how thorough the vetting process was.
- Frodoholic, on 09/01/2008, -4/+33This lady just keeps getting better and better.
- kristov, on 09/01/2008, -6/+32I thought all hockey moms were highly educated in history and law? Well suited for running the country.
- algaeturd, on 09/01/2008, -3/+25OH, I can dislike him enough for the both of us. racist, homophobe, hypocrite...yes, some people are easy to dislike.
- m0tbaillie, on 09/01/2008, -7/+25Wow, a year and a half into the election coverage and the democrats/liberal bloggers finally fire back a salvo a the republicans and suddenly WE'RE on the attack? Get *****, we've been on the defensive for the last year straight.
And thanks, we *will* stay classy, because you morons never were. - Rudegar, on 09/01/2008, -1/+18http://history.vineyard.net/pledge.htm
here it say Christian Socialist
national socialists was the original name of the German Nazi party
who were not that socialistic anyway - GrandmaSheila, on 09/01/2008, -12/+28Perhaps she's a product of "homeschooling" which she ardently supports, the goal of which is to keep 'em dumb as possible. It certainly worked for her.
LMAO! - algaeturd, on 09/01/2008, -3/+19Repubhyopcrisy. They suck the tit of the government and then tell everyone how they're against the 'nanny state.'
These people don't know logic and reasoning when it smacks them upside the head.
As you said, if this happened to Obama, it would be on the front page of every paper and every ***** redneck in the south would be talking about it down at the greasy spoon tomorrow morning.
Since it's a woman with no real experience in government? She gets a pass. Just like the litany of endless passes they gave Bush over the past 8 years.
THERE IS NO ROOM IN POLITICS FOR LOGIC, REASON OR FAIR GAME! - pintomp3, on 09/01/2008, -11/+26the religious nutjobs have been rewriting history for decades. guess who said the following:
"The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers. On the contrary, our Founders’ political views were strongly informed by their religious beliefs."
"The Founding Fathers envisioned a robustly Christian yet religiously tolerant America, with churches serving as vital institutions that would eclipse the state in importance. Throughout our nation’s history, churches have done what no government can ever do, namely teach morality and civility. Moral and civil individuals are largely governed by their own sense of right and wrong, and hence have little need for external government. This is the real reason the collectivist Left hates religion: Churches as institutions compete with the state for the people’s allegiance, and many devout people put their faith in God before their faith in the state. Knowing this, the secularists wage an ongoing war against religion, chipping away bit by bit at our nation’s Christian heritage. "
http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul148.html - hatdrop, on 09/01/2008, -1/+15mentioning an incorrect number seems like a slip of the tongue error. saying the founding fathers wrote the pledge is like saying jesus brought us the 10 commandments, a comment made out of ignorance rather than confusing facts.
but i'm not surprised she doesn't know that fact, i was schooled when we had to recite it every morning and they never told me what it was for throughout my 1-12 grade education. i only learned that it was written recently and amended during the cold war out of personal research during high school. - mikesoba, on 09/01/2008, -0/+14The pledge of allegiance was not written by the "founding fathers" and may or may not reflect their "initial" views of religion ("initial" - did their views change at some point). In fact, nearly all all of them were members of the established Church of England, not some evangelical nut-case sect and, beyond that, were deists -- believing that God, the clock maker, set the universe into motion and took off not to be seen again.
Why does the right wing present make believe history for fact? - humperdinck, on 09/01/2008, -2/+16Polar bears?
- PHiZ187, on 09/01/2008, -1/+13Actually it was only 43 years ago that it WAS against the law for married couples to use contraception. (See Griswold v. Connecticut) And McCain and the conservatives brag about how they will support Supreme Court judges to push their social agenda. It is absolutely on the table, and an important part of political discourse. Because the REPUBLICANS have made it so.
- LacY, on 09/01/2008, -3/+15As a politician and candidate for VP, she should know the timeframe of the founding fathers (mid-1700s) and the timeframe of the Pledge (mid-1800s) and know that they didn't really overlap. The "Under God" portion was added in the 1950s, so no, it's not accurate that they approved it. Not knowing your country's history is bad enough for "regular" people, but when you're a public official making a strong statement about your country's history, you should probably know what you're talking about first.
- aleishman, on 09/01/2008, -0/+12the White House
- JekJob, on 09/01/2008, -7/+19Weak, weak arguments. "Actually, McCain meant that comment as a joke." I mean, really?
I take particular offense to this: "He said McCain, far from being a maverick who’s "broken with his party," has voted to support Bush policies 90 percent of the time. True enough, but by the same measure Obama has voted with fellow Democrats in the Senate 97 percent of the time."
Voting with fellow Democrats is a plus, because the Democrats were not the ones who lied to start a war, created an astronomical deficit, destroyed the economy and destroyed America's standing in the world, and more. It was George W. Bush, and McCain will only be a continuation of those policies that are obviously flawed.
I don't know of any Obama supporters who think he is the "almight" god, or is perfect 100% of the time. At least Obama understands the country and its history, unlike Palin who would fail the written test if she were seeking citizenship in the US. - BossKey, on 09/01/2008, -3/+15What you do mean by "approved by the Founding Fathers (which is accurate)"?
The Founding Fathers weren't around when the words "Under God" were added to the Pledge in 1952. - twiztidsinz, on 09/01/2008, -6/+17Stay trollish OffPiste.
- mikesoba, on 09/01/2008, -3/+14You can thank the Republican attack machines for being the instigators of this sort of nonsense in past elections and now this election. Now that it is coming back at them, they want to criticize their own techniques. Perhaps they should have thought of this before they started slinging mud.
- sonofblacula, on 09/01/2008, -2/+13By passed along at Harvard you mean graduated magna cum laude(That's "with great honors" in Latin, numbnuts) ? Unlike John McCain who only got into school because his daddy was an Admiral, and just barely skimmed by at the bottom of his class?
- DesignNerd, on 09/01/2008, -5/+16man, the hits just keep on coming!
- sealhands, on 09/01/2008, -2/+13attacking a politician for not knowing the origins of the pledge of allegiance is a warranted attack, and in no way is unclassy. this is not attacking her as a woman or her child or her daughter, this is an attack on how stupid she is. if you'd like to offer an intelligent retort instead of sarcastic insults maybe something productive would happen.
- Sansui, on 09/01/2008, -3/+13You are clearly retarded. Obama was joking that it seemed like he'd been to 57 states regarding how busy his schedule had been. Should we now call out John McCain for his dumb little singing joke of "Bomb Bomb Iran"?
- AaronMT, on 09/01/2008, -4/+14Dear Americans
Your country is done for should McCain be elected... if there even is an election (NSPD-51).
