- Denneval, on 09/15/2008, -6/+59Baked Alaskan.
- laj4obama, on 09/15/2008, -6/+36So much for the fiscal conservative. I just can't believe our country can fall for this pack of lies.
- meese, on 09/15/2008, -8/+20The key point here is *inauthenticity* especially since her campaign has been selling her as "authentic small-town folk"
- meese, on 09/15/2008, -4/+15Also, we should be very clear on the facts on this one. FTA, it's *not* confirmed yet whether tax money went into paying for the tanning bed. We need to ask her to find out. It's also not confirmed whether it was gifted to her, which would have required a disclosure on an ethics form under Alaska state law.
It does seem likely that the electrical wiring done for the house was for the tanning bed, and that wiring was paid for by the taxpayers.
There are questions that need answering. - aussiejan, on 09/15/2008, -3/+10You mean small-town folks don't have personal tanning beds in their homes? But I hear all these women saying, "She's just like me".
- LarryLacuna, on 09/15/2008, -3/+10Get with it dude. Fiscal conservative translates directly to borrow and spend according to the last three presidents claiming that quality.
Reagan - 200+ billion deficit
G.B. senior - 300+ billion deficit
GWB - 482+ billion deficit
and of course the "tax and spend" liberal Clinton had a 200 billion surplus... - DreadPirate, on 09/15/2008, -0/+7@Moola - And you have proof that taxpayer money was used for this, right? Or are you just spouting off more of your usual fact-free BS?
- Bilabrin, on 09/15/2008, -2/+8Ahhh yeah, those were the days...back then we had the 4th amendment, we could, ya know, travel and communicate without being unduly hasseled....
- DreadPirate, on 09/15/2008, -1/+7@gobbstopp - I made no claims about dems in general, so try that strawman argument somewhere else. Moola made a very specific claim, without any links or actual facts to back that claim up. I simply asked him to prove that statement. You are the one who equated that to an attack on Dems in general.
- Myonosken, on 09/15/2008, -1/+7Okay,
1) I'm liberal. I vote for left parties in EUROPE.
2) Check up with male governors and see if any of them had big ass gyms installed.
3) Even if she did, how about you focus on the big issues that are destroying your country instead? - vault, on 09/15/2008, -6/+12What a non-issue. Wow, the Alaska governor's mansion has its own tanning bed. You people are grasping at straws here.
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -5/+11Hey, don't be so tough on yourself, you've fallen for worse.
Remember, before the turn of the century (2000) when you lived in a free country? - inactive, on 09/15/2008, -5/+11"First off, how did she pay for it."
-Probably on a credit card.
"Second, what an epic waste of a ***** of money ~$35k."
-So was buying the first iPhone on launch day. So is buying a private jet. The same can also be said for ordering a WWE event on PPV. The 35k is for a top of the line, brand new one. You can find decent ones used for just a couple thousand.
""Third, the excuse for buying it will be something akin to promoting racial equality by having the family members step into the shoes of darker-hued americans."
-That might be the dumbest ***** thing I've ever heard.
"Fourth, go away with your lameness."
-Made me chuckle after reading your "excuse". - DreadPirate, on 09/15/2008, -2/+7Four hours later, and no proof for Moola's claim. Buried as more pathetic lies from a witless buffoon.
- wonderchemist, on 09/15/2008, -5/+10Impossible! Vampires are afraid of light!
- hiPpymIck, on 09/15/2008, -0/+4up to 8k is for a top commercial one that will be on all day at a salon

home beds are ~2 - 3k
http://www.novatan.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTG ...
..and might not a guy have something like a home gym fitted - inactive, on 09/15/2008, -7/+11yes, but a $35,000 straw.
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -4/+8Yes, like when the ***** are we leaving Iraq and Afghanistan.
That's a much better question than "how much was your tanning bed". - kevinmotel, on 09/15/2008, -1/+5I don't think Obama needs a tanning bed.
- Nasturtium, on 09/15/2008, -5/+9Bridget to Nowhere ( tip to Mr. Brauer!) is a HYPOCRITE as well as a liar. The more we learn, the less we like. Most important to me, what does selecting her say about McSame's decision making process - I can't even refer to that decision as judgment.
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -9/+13HOLY *****!!!!111!!!one!!eleven
She owns a tanning bed, oh the humanity. Incontrovertible proof that she's not fit to lead.
(ugh) - avinkline, on 09/15/2008, -1/+4This is pretty silly. Who cares where she tans at?
- hoikarnage, on 09/15/2008, -1/+4Oh noes a tanning bed! Hey isn't Alaska that state that goes for months without daylight?
Hey I'm no fan of Palin, but picking on silly little ***** like this is embarrassing to digg. - costumemaker, on 09/15/2008, -2/+5anyone who votes for this alaskan must be baked.
- kingofinternet, on 09/15/2008, -2/+5half-baked alaskan.
- samoan27, on 09/15/2008, -1/+4Hey listen if you're not going to jump to conclusions about someone without all the facts first, then you can just get off Digg.
- vault, on 09/15/2008, -0/+3"You heathens," I meant to say.
- kinseyincanada, on 09/15/2008, -2/+4wow digg you have hit an all time low on this one, a tanning bed in her house? seriously? how in any way does this even remotely affect her running for VP? Using tactics like this makes you NO different then those who said Obama was an elitist or a Muslim its all *****. Focus on the issues and facts not this unimportant *****.
- reverendthanki, on 09/15/2008, -6/+8Unbelievable, she seems to not care at all about the decency needed to hold office. You don't abiuse your power to gain personal revenge, you don't lie about your policy positions and you certainly don't use potentially public money to give yourself a tan. So this is Old Old Man McCain's breath of fresh air? Everything about her stinks.
- JHB800, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2NO state money was spent on this. Ever.
And there is no rewiring. Its plug and go.
Oh, and as others above have pointed out, commercial tanning beds top out at $8,000, and its not even clear that thats what she bought. - inactive, on 09/15/2008, -7/+9Did she pay for it with the profits from selling a jet on Ebay?
Ohh wait the Ebay sale failed and she sold the jet for a huge loss.
So much for being fiscally conservative.
McCain/Palin=Liars - thepoliticalcat, on 09/15/2008, -2/+4As a fiscal conservative this irritates me. I don't care what she does with her own money, but to (1) buy a tanning bed (2) of a supposedly commercial variety, which is much more expensive (3) then fail to declare the value in excess of $150 and (4) spend money rewiring the governor's mansion to provide adequate power for the thing -- while all these things do not necessarily add up to a crime per se, they add up to questionable behaviour from someone who paints themselves as a fiscal conservative. Caesar's wife must be above suspicion. She should have declared it all. Given her unethical charging the state per diem for staying home to the tune of some $50K/pa, this does not look good.l
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2If you think that Obama isn't prodding this on behind closed doors, then more power to you. I wish I had a pair of those rose-colored glasses.
- Nathrat, on 09/15/2008, -7/+9I heard Obama was using Uni-ball pens, using excessive amounts of ink, when he could have just used a Bic pen. Seems fishy, we better look into it.
- Myonosken, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2Aha, I cannot believe you just got buried for that.
- bluevillage, on 09/15/2008, -2/+4Paris Hilton a devotee of the tanning bed:
http://smiles24h.com/2008/09/09/paris-hilton-suns- ... - rpfinley, on 09/15/2008, -1/+3How is this any worse than having a fundraiser, currently in jail, who bought the land next to your property and than sold it to you?
- costumemaker, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2You are talking about the same ticket.
- JHB800, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Did you even read the ***** article? She spent her own money. Not a dime of public money was spent on this.
- JHB800, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Actually, it is confirmed that she paid for the bed herself. While the article states that beds can cost $35,000 or more, most home tanning beds can cost as little as $2,000.
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -4/+5PolishLogic you are stupid.
Biden is one of the least wealthy senators.
Obama became a millionaire by authoring inspirational books -- no one forced people to buy his literature. I wonder if he used the money to buy a tanning bed.
How did mccain get rich? By being born with, and by marrying a silver spoon. - OHGAlpha, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1i lost 2 friends that were baked in alaska.
seriously - skmckinny, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1It is confirmed that she paid for it herself. No tax payer money was used.
The family makes good money from Todd Palin's fishing trade. - whorelock, on 09/15/2008, -1/+2What's with us honkys obsessing over being brown?
- skmckinny, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1Hm.. I think she was smart to buy herself a good tanning bed in Alaska. It keeps people in snow-bound regions quite perky. I know a lot of people in Minnesota can relate to this.
Hm.. come to think of it, Minnesota did respond favorably to this story. Ok. Keep pushing it!!
By the way, it also reminds them of the "boneheaded" dealings with Rezko. NICE!! - SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/15/2008, -1/+2This is dumb. I'm sorry, a "personal tanning bed" just isn't THAT luxurious.
Stop digging this *****. There are plenty of REAL criticisms to be leveled at Palin. ***** like this makes it look like we are grasping at straws. - wishninja, on 09/23/2008, -0/+1She is a ***** sports journalist that is her qualifications. They have no chance at winning.
- JHB800, on 09/17/2008, -0/+1She never claimed it sold dimwit. She said 'I Put it on ebay'. That was it, nothing more, nothing less.
- mleaman, on 09/15/2008, -1/+1Tan line or fake.
