Ultimately, what it comes down to is do other people have the right to tell a woman what they can and can't do with their body? Especially in situations where their health, safety and life are at risk. Should others have the right to force a woman to carry a child and give birth after being raped or knowing that it it will dramatically affect her health and may result in her death? That is what is at the heart of the "choice" position.

Maybe she thought that if she cited any mainstream magazine or newspaper Couric would reply quoting an article in that magazine that criticizes her readiness for the job. As someone below said, she could've easily mention any big name in the printed media.
More than not being ready for the job I think she lacks the basic politician skills (and I'm not mocking her here) maybe in Alaska she wasn't politically challenged as is due. She has to master the art of going around and around of your talking points (twisting them a little) until your interviewer gets tired.
