- ChristPissed, on 10/03/2008, -23/+156Sarah Palin is a liar.
- revgerry, on 10/03/2008, -7/+96This is an important provision. Palin imagined that McCain would certainly want to protect homeowners in bankruptcy, realized she didn't know what she was talking about, and went back to discussing energy instead of answering the question. He does not support that grace for first homes, only for his other seven. This is not the only time she didn't answer the question, she also failed to answer on McCain's plans to leave Iraq - because of course he doesn't have any. PaLin's style is to be charming and distract from the actual question being asked, and even my teenager picked up on it.
- willymugobeer, on 10/03/2008, -7/+72Palin was just so far out of her depth here, it was pathetic -- I felt sorry for her. If McCain truly thinks she's qualified to be one (72-year-old) heartbeat away from the Presidency, then that reflects very poorly on his judgment.
- MoZeu, on 10/03/2008, -8/+56Don't you people understand that you can't probe the "facts" behind the pronouncements of an adorable woman who winks? Why do you all hate America?
- baglady215, on 10/03/2008, -5/+41ENERGY! DRILL BABY DRILL! ENERGY! ALASKA! ENERGY! HOCKEY! ENERGY! *wink* ENERGY!
- wendelgee2, on 10/03/2008, -1/+33It's more likely that she simply doesn't know where either she or McCain stand on the issue, and was winging it.
- gsadamb, on 10/03/2008, -2/+33The law is so riduculous to begin with. You can get bankruptcy protection on your fourth house, but not your primary residence?
Clearly. this is a law to protect the rich and not the average American busting their hump to pay the mortgage on the house in which they live. - filolif, on 10/03/2008, -8/+37It's clear that she doesn't understand her own campaign's platform... really that doesn't bode well for her understanding anything outside her nearsighted politics.
At least she reads all the newspapers and magazines in the world. That should help her learn. - olafcore, on 10/03/2008, -7/+33To her defense, she doesn't know she's lying. She a wee bit retarded.
- dagnabbit, on 10/03/2008, -7/+31Aw shucks Joe, there you go confusing me again. Let's talk about energy.
- rukkyg, on 10/03/2008, -6/+30This reminds me of how McCain didn't recognize the name of the Spanish Prime Minister, so said he wouldn't sit down and speak with him in his administration. He sticks to this ridiculous story despite periodic slams by the Democrats (in both debates so far), that McCain is so ridiculous that he won't even speak with a NATO ally. He and his campaign are so stubborn.
- baglady215, on 10/03/2008, -4/+23"Governor Palin, is that so?" asked PBS' Gwen Ifill.
"That is not so," said Palin, "but because that's just a quick answer."
The Alaska governor then quickly changed the subject to energy. - Hillsfar, on 10/03/2008, -8/+27She SOUNDS like she knows what she's talking about. But she's like an actor who plays a doctor on TV.
- kloche, on 10/03/2008, -8/+23Are these two running on the same ticket? All I saw her doing during the VP debate was covering her own ass and promoting her own platform, while selling McCain down the river. If she's doesn't trust government to handle state affairs and is such of a "Washington Outsider", why did she pair up with a Senator who has been part of government for nearly 30 years.
Please send this woman back to her "Meth capital" Wasilla. Wasilla certainly isn't like any American Main street, I know. We don't have junkies and drug dealers lined up and down the stretch. - ha3er0, on 06/16/2009, -8/+22BREAKING NEWS Palin is a ***** liar scumbag!!
- wendelgee2, on 10/03/2008, -1/+14Isn't it astonishing that in the last two debates, the moderators asked which program the candidates might have to cut because of the $700b bailout, and neither McCain nor Palin thought to say: "We might have to end this ridiculously expensive war in Iraq."
- mikesoba, on 10/03/2008, -6/+19Does bankruptcy have something to do with either oil or keeping America safe? Thjos are the only two talking points I heard.
- darkmachina, on 10/03/2008, -1/+14McCain Camp: "Listen, you don't know anything, here is a script, if someone asks you a question that is not in there, do not answer it, do not try, just answer a different question"
Sarah: "But wouldn't people notice that I didn't answer the question"
McCain Camp: "Of course not, those people are just like you"
Sarah: "What do you mean Charlie?"
McCain Camp: (sigh) "Look, just stick to this script and don't mess up"
Sarah: "What if I pronounce a name wrong or forget an answer"
McCain Camp: "Just wink and we'll jab the moderator with a fork, then proceed to answer an unrelated question"
Sarah: "I think I got it, yup, yup"
McCain Camp: "Good Luck, just please don't mention Russia, newspapers you read, movies you watch, things you think about, the constitution, or supreme court decisions"
Sarah: "Of course I won't, silly, I don't know any of that stuff"
McCain Camp: "By george I think she's got it" - audomatix, on 10/03/2008, -3/+16Sarah is a pawn who was chosen to try and yank the female vote. It failed an backfired, she is probably the least qualified person to be vice president (or a governor) in the United States of America. She should be a stay at home mom, right now she's making female politicians everywhere look bad. Plus has anyone ever considered what her values are? She has a decent size family who lives in Alaska. If she was elected with McCain she would be sacrificing the needs of her family for her own personal wants. They would be forced to relocate or would barely see mom/wife/whatever... That is selfish. I do not want someone who puts their personal wants before the needs of their family in the white house making judgment calls that will affect people who are more intelligent than her.
- atgmac, on 10/03/2008, -4/+16Goshdarnit you betcha!
- northwatuppa, on 10/03/2008, -2/+14Actually, she doesn't sound like she knows what she's talking about.
- FredFredrickson, on 10/03/2008, -5/+16Palin showed up with a list of talking points memorized, and never strayed from it - even going so far as to completely ignore one or two questions (either that, or she just didn't understand them). This lady is a ***** retard, and she is completely unqualified to even be governor of a state. Our country is already in the toilet, thanks to Bush. Electing Palin and grandpa McCain will just pull the lever and flush it down the drain.
- windphoenix, on 10/03/2008, -0/+11What did she get right? I mean really. She didn't answer the questions, she mocked Biden in impolite ways, and she kept talking about her experience as a mayor when the question was about McCain. Oh and she answered every single question by talking about energy. I guess the disaster with Katie was not a one time thing. She just doesn't understand some of these questions and keeps going back to flag of no surrender, hockey mom, wink, ya betcha, and every other tactic to avoid looking stupid. By God we have very smart woman in this country. Does McCain think people are so stupid?
- mikbunn, on 10/03/2008, -1/+12Could you do me a favor and add to that list: McLame, RePUGlican, McBush, Libtard, and all the other retarded, unfunny, and not even close to clever two-word amalgamations that seem to infest digg comments?
- MammasMilk, on 10/03/2008, -2/+13Is it just me or did other people get so damned irritated at the winking shtick that near the end of the debate I wanted to jab her eye out every time she winked.
I don't advocate actual eye jabbing... it was just excessive and irritating. - dramaqueenmama, on 10/03/2008, -1/+12She kept making faces. And I hate her hand movements....just like a beauty queen
- mywhitenoise, on 10/03/2008, -1/+12MAVERICK!
- texasred54, on 10/03/2008, -6/+17Why does Palin care? She's worth $1.2 million. She owns a huge house worth over $250,000.
Have we seen her tax records? - craftyartista, on 10/03/2008, -0/+10Isn't it interesting when teens can pick up on the lack of applicable and elicited answers? My 14 year old daughter said the same thing during the debate last night. I imagine it is because in high school, the teachers give a big smack down to ***** answers from kids when they don't know the material and refuse to let them off the hook by giving them a failing grade. Which is what the polls seem to be doing ...
- cramtod, on 10/03/2008, -1/+10energy: oil from Alaska
alternative energy:oil from offshore - inactive, on 10/03/2008, -2/+10Butthurt Right Wing Shills throw insults and attempt deflection: news at 11.
- CrackyJSquirrel, on 10/03/2008, -0/+8I am glad we all can get generalized into six pack drinking average Joes and annoying hockey moms. I had no clue the middle class are all some beer drinking team sweatshirt wearing chumps.
- altgeeky1, on 10/03/2008, -2/+10Oh gosh darn, there you go again, pushing those "facts" you worship.
This was Palin's moment to reach "the American people", who are, you know, too busy with soccer to read the news.
This was a calculated lie, just like Palin's claim to support the Obama/Biden stance on same-sex civil unions. It DOES NOT HAVE TO BE TRUE... she just needs to SAY IT for TV. Playing catch up will be all those "commentators" that "joe sixpack" should ignore because the commentators TELL YOU HOW TO THINK.
She obviously rehearsed (which is fine), so I don't think it's a simple slip that she claimed a slew of centrist positions. They need only maintain the farce until the election.
Anyone else remember how McCain said during the primary, drilling won't get us out of the slump, and we need alternative energy? Everyone knew he was putting up a false position, but that didn't matter because that position only needed to carry him through the primaries, to get some independent votes. - AndrewMoyer, on 10/03/2008, -0/+7We can't do that... because that's making all of their military contractor friends filthy rich.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -9/+16The biggest laugh from me came when Biden suggested that bankruptcy judges should have the power to lower the amount owed on your mortgage.
- cmootoo, on 10/03/2008, -3/+10Its pretty sad when GOP supporters can be 'energized' when this woman can string together two sentences and make some semblance of sense.
I guess there wasn't enough time to work on making her answers relevant to the questions asked though. - inactive, on 10/03/2008, -4/+11Three phrases I never want to hear again, and may kill somebody the next time I do hear them:
heartbeat away away from the presidency
Wall Street to Main Street
verbal gaffe. - SmartfulDodger, on 10/03/2008, -2/+9And by energy, I mean my deals with oil companies in Alaska. What's alternative energy?
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -1/+8As well as alleviate a large amount of a little thing called personal responsibility and accountability.
- ericjohnson0, on 10/03/2008, -3/+10Well, after the debate, everyone on DIGG saying Palin lost and these singing kids, we should all think about voting for Obama...
http://thesaloon.net/blog/_archives/2008/10/3/3913 ... - nick1971, on 10/03/2008, -7/+13It is so unfair that you can't use a teleprompter / direct neural interface in a debate. There are just so many facts that you can cram on a cue card she was clearly taken advantage of just because she is a women.
Look at which presidential characteristics she has. She is vacuous, barely coherent, asinine, anserine and herbate. These are characteristics which she shares with GWB and also Ronald Regan during his senile term.
Once you look behind the intellectual snobbery and liberal media which clearly biased the debate against Sarah with unfair tools like facts, questions and issues you come to one conclusion
Palin is clearly a capable leader, the most qualified and well equipped.Having read the comments from the Republican party I can see that the McCain / Palin ticket is the only way to go. Had the debate been in the form suggested by the Republican party then 50% of the time would have been spent winking to the camera and the other 50% telling spend on warm cuddly and asinine stories from ones own life. With this more sensible format Sarah whould have lept miles ahead.
The logic for Palin for VP is very easy.
She's a hockey mum. This fact plus the fact that she won a number of beauty pageants obviously demonstrate that she has the leadership skills to be VP.
Remember this is US politics think values not substance
She believes that
good is good,
god is good,
bad is bad
Satan is bad
guns are good,
bribes are good,
personal vendettas are good
getting caught kicking your brother in law out of a job is bad
bridges are good or not or....
working from home is good,
being paid for working at home is really good,
being caught at being paid for working at home is bad,
sex is bad,
babies are good,
women's rights are bad,
wars are good,
dinosaurs are bad,
death is bad (unless its McCain's because then I become president)
health care is bad,

GWB is good,
McCain is good,
coherency is bad,
Knowledge is bad,
public debating is bad,
abstinence is good, if you don't know what sex is you can't possibly get someone pregnant,
teenage pregnancy is bad (except when its with my underage teen and then only because she's going to get married to the guy who got her pregnant because these sorts of relationships are the ones that stick together)
hockey is good,
Alaska is good
USA is good
Terrorism is bad (unless its done by the US to someone else see Iraq)
Handouts to poor people are bad
Handouts to rich people are good.
Tax cuts to the really rich are good.
Tax cuts to the middle class is bad
Murder is bad unless its done by the justice department or the US armed forces.
With regards to foreign policy one only needs to remember Yukta Mookhey Miss World 1999 who met many world leaders too. I think Palins strategy is world leaders who sleep together stick together.
By the way the real estate between her ears can be purchased now on eBay
/s - doubleagl, on 10/03/2008, -3/+9The lights may be on........but....NOBODY'S HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- dprodigy19, on 10/03/2008, -12/+18This is a huge deal in terms of the economic crisis and one of the big differences between the two campaigns. Good to see Palin is knowledgeable.
- dramaqueenmama, on 10/03/2008, -4/+10she is not a liar...she just doesnt understand anything in the lower 48 states. She is in her own little world called Alaska. She is just too spooky for words
- SmartfulDodger, on 10/03/2008, -3/+9LIMBAUGH - ultra conservative group that has admitted to illegally possessing FDA-controlled substances among other things
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/rushletters1. ... - pintomp3, on 10/03/2008, -0/+6he is in a no win situation there. he can let them beat him up for being ridiculous for not meeting with NATO allies, or he can forfeit his foreign policy credentials by admitting he doesn't know how it is.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -0/+6Duly noted, and agreed.
- bryanwilson08, on 10/03/2008, -1/+7also add "Maverick" to the list...
- GrownupPhan, on 10/03/2008, -3/+9TK05 IS wrong. The original question Ifil asked was about bankruptcy law. She asked about the fact that Joe but not Barack voted for the draconian law that now exists. As part of his reply, Joe described what changes Barack and he advocate be made now in light of the crisis. Those include resetting to long-term lower rate loans and he said even principal reduction. That cram down support was actually news to me. But Barack has never been opposed to bankruptcy law revision. He merely said there's enough Republican resistance that he reluctantly agreed it should not be included in the current rescue bill in the interest of getting that much passed very quickly. He said the same about a second stimulus package that he also wants.
- Slitchy, on 10/03/2008, -2/+8Yea that idea would destroy the notion of a CONTRACT
