- FTWmovin2canada, on 07/07/2009, -6/+206Please run in 2012, this train wreck is highly entertaining.
- lhbaker, on 07/07/2009, -3/+124This is comparable to Palin justifying her resignation by saying that, because she wasn't going to run for reelection, she was therefor a lame duck, and Alaska didn't need a lame duck. A lame duck is an official who cannot run for office due to term limits, not somebody who decides not to run again. Palin has shown repeatedly that she is completely ignorant about how the federal government works.
Remember this?
Q: Brandon Garcia wants to know, “What does the Vice President do?”
PALIN: That’s something that Piper would ask me! … [T]hey’re in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.
Or this?
Palin: "As for that VP talk all the time, I'll tell you, I still can't answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day? I'm used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that VP slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we're trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question."
These are not misstatements. Biden makes gaffes, Obama has a strange delivery (and sometimes uses teleprompters!), but Palin doesn't even seem to understand basic civics.
She won't run again, and if she does, she won't be nominated. Even the GOP isn't that desperate ( Secretly, though, I hope they are). - notKeith, on 07/07/2009, -6/+98The Department of Law protects this president, obviously. What's wrong with you people? The Department of Logic was responsible for George W. Bush's speeches. There is no Department of Logic either. But the Department of Law allows for this sort of thing, to protect the president. Which begs the question, but that's okay too, because of the Department of Circular Reasoning, that dictates the interaction between the 3 branches of government: the Executive, the Legislative, and the Lobbyitive.
What's the matter with you people? - skintigh, on 07/07/2009, -1/+83I'm half surprised she didn't invoke the protection of the Hall of Justice.
- BDOUG, on 07/07/2009, -1/+64The Department of Law protects all U.S. Americans from The Iraq and such as.
- evanft, on 07/07/2009, -1/+64I really, really hope she runs in 2012. The lulz would be unbelievably epic.
- Junkyarddawg, on 07/07/2009, -4/+61Well, at least she's got the self-insight to realize that her administration was stymied, paralyzed and not getting anything done.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+57Someone needs to introduce her to the department of STFU !!!!!!
- UnpossibIe, on 07/07/2009, -6/+54What is this department of law she speaks about? Is that what Bush used to skirt responsibility for Guantanamo?
- johnboycanada, on 07/07/2009, -1/+47Jesus Christ, this woman is staggeringly stupid! Good riddance.
- mastacoupe, on 07/07/2009, -6/+51Uninformed is not gender exclusive. So I don't feel like a sexist when I say that this citizen has no idea how her federal government works. Somebody should send her some after-school specials.
- lexpattison, on 07/07/2009, -1/+44Bush's long lost sister.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+43We were educated by the Department of Education.
- Expl0siv0, on 07/07/2009, -2/+45This article made me establish a Department of Lawl.
eh? ehhhh? *crickets* - feelmypimphand, on 07/07/2009, -0/+34Palin/Limbaugh 2012
for the ultimate in entertainment - ManUnitdFan, on 07/07/2009, -0/+34Yeah, because Obama misspeaking that one time is far, far worse than Palin's complete lack of understanding about everything, right?
- tgjerusalem, on 07/07/2009, -2/+36No she doesn't. And any "experience" she has is irrelevant when considered in relation to the fact that she's dumber than a sack of hammers.
- skintigh, on 07/07/2009, -2/+33I think you mean "...ability to rally the SOCIAL conservatives..."
No business/fiscal Repub takes her seriously, just like few Dems or Inds do. Her allergic reaction to facts and reason may not matter to religious social cons, but the rest of the world is in fact concerned about reality. - Junkyarddawg, on 07/07/2009, -2/+29And she forgot to add "corrupt". But hey, it's a start.
- arTech, on 07/07/2009, -0/+26This "lame duck" bs needs to be exposed. In Virginia, Governor is limited to one term. Should they all just quit halfway through their first and ONLY term?
- KrayzieKyd, on 07/07/2009, -2/+28Even if there were a Dept of Law, it would protect Laws, not stupid people.
- sizzzzlerz, on 07/07/2009, -1/+26Palin 2012-2013!
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+25willie: please point out where Palin's quote was taken out of context.
I bet you cannot. I bet you're a coward. - ivanmarsh, on 07/07/2009, -0/+25Stupid and racist... definitely one of Palin's people.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+24Is "Comrade Bojangles" racist? Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's racist.
- Locnar, on 07/07/2009, -1/+25Who did she blow to get the job in the first place?
I for one am a little worried about the republican party.. come on guys? Is this the best you got?
We need a 2 party system in this country to keep it some what level. Someone take the wheel!!! - davdev, on 07/07/2009, -2/+25No, she really doesn't. Maybe before the election that was borderline accurate. However, 6 months as President of the US is far more experience than 2 years as Gov of the least popular state in the country
- Nubhole, on 07/07/2009, -0/+23In what context does "department of law" make sense?
- earther, on 07/07/2009, -0/+22You're about as incoherent as Palin.
- HEAVYisSPY, on 07/07/2009, -2/+23The way I see it, there are plenty of good arguments to be made about the government's role in the economy. Unions, safety laws, environmental policy, public transportation...depending on the situation there are many reasonable opinions on both sides of the fence.
But when it comes to dinosaur-riding jingoistic rapture-ready anti-intellectual willfully ignorant folks like SP dolling up hillbilly worldviews under the guise of respectability....it's just absolutely repulsive.
Social conservatives are killing the conservative movement. Your stupid fairy tales have got into conservative politics and have helped fiscally irresponsible men get elected, because they are the lesser of two problems. Grow the ***** up intellectually, and you might not have to see Washington swarming with democrats. - lhbaker, on 07/07/2009, -0/+21I stand corrected, but the point is still valid.
- Nainsell, on 07/07/2009, -4/+25A lame duck is an authority figure whose successor has been elected but has yet to assume office.
- kh99, on 07/07/2009, -1/+22It's funny how when people on the right are treated like every other public figure is treated that it's somehow unfair. The idea of "liberal media" was invented by the right to give their people something more comfortable to believe than the truth.
- Junkyarddawg, on 07/07/2009, -1/+21Yeah... The Bridge To Nowhere that she CAMPAIGNED ON, before realizing that people really aren't that fond of pork, and decided she was against it. Sortof, kinda.
Then there's the Wasilla hockey stadium, and the shady awarding of contracts. The free lumber for her lakeside house. And who can forget the persecution of that police officer she didn't like?
She's as corrupt as a meth-addicted pastor ***** altar boys, and scandals swarm her like flies around the corpse of a harbor hooker, but you're right - she's never been *convicted*. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+20Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice...won't get fooled again. - Ouze, on 07/07/2009, -0/+19yes, just as she rallied them to victory in 2008.
- dougs55, on 07/07/2009, -0/+19Either that or she just can't psychologically handle criticism and dissent.
- UnpossibIe, on 07/07/2009, -0/+19The sad part is, not that there is a local department of law in Alaska, that has no bearing at the federal level. It's that whenever she opens her mouth people have to back pedal for her.
Alaska's Department of Law has nothing to do with looking "at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out." What she wants is a private lawyer with powers of a district attorney. Even your link states that this department is for public justice.
"The Alaska Department of Law works to assure safe and healthy communities by prosecuting and convicting criminal offenders in urban and rural Alaska." - IphtashuFitz, on 07/07/2009, -1/+19To be clear, there IS a state "Department of Law" in Alaska. She's apparently just oblivious to the fact that it's not mirrored at the federal level.
http://www.law.state.ak.us/department/criminal/cri ... - brandonchicago, on 07/07/2009, -2/+20Gross ignorance + Power = Scary ass *****

Thank God it looks like Palin is dropping "Power" from her equation. - AndrewDB, on 07/07/2009, -3/+21Ugh.
She needs to disappear. - magus_melchior, on 07/07/2009, -1/+19She wanted Cheney's lawyer, Dave Addington, and Bybee's OLC. Basically, a law office that tells the VP that she can do whatever the ***** she wants and will make ***** up to justify her harebrained decisions.
- KahRahTay, on 07/07/2009, -2/+19@fleischner
dare accepted and completed.
well, that was a waste of my time. its an article written by a foaming at the mouth butthurt "conservative" from the perspective of an alleged "Liberal"
And if you believe that the Dems are really the party of smear, you should do a quick google search about how Bush beat McCain in the '00 primaries, or watch even 5 minutes of Fox "news" - KarateMedia, on 07/07/2009, -1/+18I know it's asking a lot of Palin to try and read something -- but I strongly suggest she read Bob Woodward's book "Shadow," which covers just how difficult the Independent Council can make a President's life. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Shadow/Bob-Woodwa ...
If she thinks accusations just get "automatically thrown out" by some "department of law," she's in for a quite a rude awakening.
Yes, the President certainly has more people around to run interference for him/her, but there is no shortage of people just looking to make your life hell once you're in the White House. Suck it up, beauty queen, or resign yourself to polar bear hunting. - snafflepaffle, on 07/07/2009, -0/+15That's why people like him feel such an affinity for her.
"Hey, she's just a stupid as I am, I like her." - jeffness, on 07/07/2009, -2/+17It's funny and all to look at this and laugh at the crazy yokel from Alaska calling it "Department of Law", and obviously her ideas of what kinds of protections the whitehouse receives is filled with misunderstanding, but I am sure the reason why she used the word "Department of Law" is because that is what it is called in Alaska.
http://www.law.state.ak.us/ - The Alaska Department of Law.
Seems almost like a gradual "dumbing down" of terms similar to the movie Idiocracy, honestly. Most places call it the Judiciary, or at the federal level obviously it is the Department of Justice but that might have been too complicated, and the DOJ is not related to what Palin is looking for anyway..
I digress. I am not defending her misuse of terms, it obviously shows a fundamental problem, but rather the purpose of my post is to point out that her mis-statement is easier to explain than her just being stupid. She's just ignorant.. For instance, in Michigan we call it the "Secretary of State" what other states call the Department of Motor Vehicles. In the end, it's not important what it is called, rather that one understands purpose and function... and THAT is the problem with what she has said, not just her misapplication of term. - jjpipster, on 07/07/2009, -1/+16For the past 2 1/2 years.
- hasslinthehoff, on 07/07/2009, -1/+16I almost feel sorry for the woman. If she had never been picked by McCain as a running mate she probably would have had a long career as the Governor of Alaska, maybe even running for Congress and no one would have even cared to make her the laughingstock of American politics.
Remember, I said, almost. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -3/+18Truth: Working 90 days a year is too hard for her.
- johnnall, on 07/07/2009, -2/+17What color is your helmet? Do you get to take it off at night or do you have to sleep with it on?
