Religion = Suck - frousfroud, on 04/04/2009, -12/+194It's typical that religious zealots would go out of their way to ignore reality.
- SaladCactusKing, on 04/04/2009, -7/+103I've been to Israel quite a few times, and the ultra orthodox there are the worst the country has to offer in terms of Jewish folk. They refuse to acknowledge the state exists as their messiah didn't specifically come and grant it to them, do classy things like go to Iran for Holocaust conferences, and generally just come off as nasty and bitter to people who don't adhere to their lifestyle , but they'll gladly take Israel's unemployment and welfare checks and reap benefits like opting out of military service, citizenship, and tax breaks.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -6/+61Nothing like that old time religious misogyny to remind us where we came from.
- realjustice, on 04/04/2009, -4/+52Another example of religions altering reality and distorting history. Who do they think they're kidding with their idiotic stance? They just demonstrate their own inadequacies and irrational prejudices. A pox on all of them.
- Suricou, on 04/04/2009, -3/+50But one of the powers of religion is to convince even those it oppresses that their oppression is good and rightous.
Also, it can treat those who deviate from what is socially acceptable very harshly. Afganistan had a series of incidents last year when girls on their way to school were ambushed by fundamentalist muslims who threw battery acid in their faces, both to punish them and to scare other girls away from education. I can guarantee that those acid-throwers commited this assault in the unshakeable knowledge that their actions were holy, rightous and moral. - SamurAchzar, on 04/04/2009, -6/+46It's like saying the KKK represents America. If anything, most Israelis dislike those ultra-Orthodox more than they dislike Arabs.
It's a true enemy from within. - brodskie, on 04/04/2009, -6/+43What will the ultra-orthodox think of next? I bet they'll start sounding their graggers to blot out Esther's name as well as Haman's.
//Jews will know what I'm talking about. - mattharvey716, on 04/04/2009, -10/+45http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/04/03/article- ...
my eyes, they hurt - Suricou, on 04/04/2009, -3/+37Applies to all religious zealots - be they christian, jewish, or any other.
- d686, on 04/04/2009, -10/+42as someone who lived in israel and is the grandson of a man who escaped a concentration camp and killed nazis, i can't say it enough: ***** these orthodox *****, ***** their equivalents in islam and christianity. in short, ***** all religion.

- anarcurt, on 04/04/2009, -1/+29If it's that big of a problem how about not including a picture? By replacing the women the paper is giving a fraudulent representation of the facts
- igyigyigy, on 04/04/2009, -2/+24They photoshop out *****?
- sutterm, on 04/04/2009, -0/+22What the hell is this? I was going to digg you down, but I can't because at no point in that post did I understand anything you were trying to say.
- murocan, on 04/04/2009, -5/+27The problem is there are a lot of liberated/westernised women that identify as Muslim, Christian and Jewish who do not acknowledge the fact that the religion is the problem. They always make excuses that the zealots and extremists are practising the religion incorrectly and that their liberal interpretations are the true way. But the reality is they are in denial. They need to stop their blind faith and actually read their religious texts!
- walgman, on 04/04/2009, -32/+52They perform a similar operation on their male children's genitals. Sick *****.
- lostinseganet, on 04/04/2009, -1/+19I think those girls should go to the door stop of that place, and hold a regular conference. They should make sure everyone know who they are in the conference. They do not have to talk about the paper, but people will get the idea.
- brodskie, on 04/04/2009, -1/+19ARabs most certainly can vote. They even have their own political parties like Balad and United ARab List.
A nonjew Majali Wahabi http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/830745.html has even been the president of Israel. Stop lying. - urik88, on 04/04/2009, -1/+19As much as I dislike most orthodoxes, that's an extremely small part of them such as the Neturei Karata. Almost all the orthodox there do recognize that the state exists.
However, there's something that is true to say about them. Most of them don't serve in the IDF or do any productive thing for the country, and expect to get welfare from the government. - Pasaris, on 04/04/2009, -2/+19The guy they photoshopped in on the left used to be a lot taller. They shrunk him to the height of the woman. I think he got the short end of the stick actually.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -11/+28I work with an ethnically Jewish guy who doesn't practice the religion per se, but is still culturally Judaist. He said that at his temple, they make menstruating women sit in a different room; apparently, they're worried it will spread to the men. I would say that is a very sexist and archaic belief, but perhaps it explains the Neocons and Digg's Israel lobby.
- lisaawesome, on 04/04/2009, -2/+18I remember the exact moment I was absolutely done with Christianity. I was 12 years old and somehow this bible verse that referred to women as vessels to their husbands came up and I asked my mom how she could possibly be a part of a religion that treated women as an object their husbands possessed. She tried to "reason" with me with some bizarre logic where in being treated like an object didn't mean you were less important. After watching my own mother devalue herself in the name of religion, I was done.
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -1/+17It's actually sort of comforting to know that conservatives of all religions and countries are just as equally insane. Maybe people should take note of the pattern.
- JCPahl, on 04/04/2009, -4/+20I think I'd rather just wear a condom and keep those 20,000 specialized nerve endings, thanks. I just wish I had been left the choice.
- realjustice, on 04/04/2009, -5/+20Stereotyping of the worst sort.
- pintomp3, on 04/04/2009, -3/+18Speak for yourself. We pirates welcome all wenches to the church of FSM.
- PRlME, on 04/04/2009, -0/+15kkk would use MS Paint
- induren, on 04/04/2009, -0/+15That's not the explanation that the article gives for the editing. It states that it's considered immodest for women to be displayed in photographs. Posters of Tzipi Livni, a female candidate, were defaced in Ultra Orthodox neighborhoods. They weren't standing next to men.
- simon182, on 04/04/2009, -7/+22by the same logic, kids should have their tonsils, appendix removed "just in case" too
- o76923, on 04/04/2009, -8/+21Pinnacle of democracy in the Middle East FAIL
- jakeshdaddy, on 04/04/2009, -1/+14I think all the tensions between Israel and Iran are really about who has the better photoshop artists.
- digghasnoethics, on 04/04/2009, -3/+16Ultra-Orthodox Jew: "Stop the world I want to get off. All this reality offends my religious viewpoint. Unclean, unclean"
- murocan, on 04/04/2009, -0/+12Exactly. It is the same with Muslims as well.
- CoD4, on 04/04/2009, -1/+13Ramen
It's really tragic when you realize so many people are gullible and go their whole lives without stepping outside their beliefs - kingofinternet, on 04/04/2009, -4/+16one of the poorest communities in america is an orthodox religious town in ny called kiryas joel. it consists of huge families on welfare. in nyc they attempt to impose their morality on non-members of the community.
- Chooxo, on 04/04/2009, -13/+25Jewish blessing that males recite in the morning: "Blessed art thou, our Eternal God... for not making me a woman."
http://digg.com/u1BVZ - inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+11The orthadox porn mag posibilities are a pretty horrific thought.
- Hadag2219, on 04/04/2009, -1/+11First of all, only Orthodox Jews recite that specific prayer in the morning. Conservative and Reform Jews have a different prayer. Second, it wasn't originally meant to be a sexist prayer. That prayer was put in place because men are supposed to thank God for the time-related obligations they have (time-related obligations such as tallit and tefilin were put in place because men can't give birth like women, which is one of the biggest mitzvot). The reason why women say "Blessed... for making me in His liking." is because women are less violent, arrogant, and more caring by nature, so God made women closer to the original idea of a human being. This has become to sexist over the years because ***** men interpreted these prayers by saying that men say this because we're better than women. We're not. Men were the ones who idolized the golden calf, not women. Without women, I highly doubt Judaism would exist because we're so dumb and violent sometimes.
As for these Orthodox Jews who photoshopped the women out of the pictures, they're giving Judaism a bad name. It's people like them who piss me off. I think all Jews should condemn such actions. Almost all Orthodox Jews don't believe this is right. I certainly don't. The people who did this are pigs. - barius, on 04/04/2009, -1/+11They don't need too, the Torah already puts Esther in her place quite nicely.
Quick recap: Esther is a young Queen (concubine, really) in the Persian King's court. Haman, being a total douche, decides he doesn't like the Jews and devises a plot to trick the King into destroying them. Esther begs, like the good girl she is, kissing the King's ass with more than words and manages to get him to agree to hang Haman for being such a douche. The Jews are saved, hooray.
Moral of the story: A woman's place in politics is to suck dick when it is convenient to her people. Other than that, she should STFU and look pretty. - wpi97, on 04/04/2009, -3/+13IMHO, that is a very strange interpretation of Judaism. I happen to know an Orthodox Jewish woman, who is a wife of a Hassidic rabbi. She works as a real estate broker, and her picture is all over the place.
One thing to keep in mind, is that "Orthodox Jews" are not a single group, but a multitude of sects and movements, which often disagree very strongly on many issues. Another thing to keep in mind, is that there is an insane number of newspapers published in Israel. So if some fringe group's paper does something as stupid as this, the vast majority of Israelis would probably not even know or care. - SSPink, on 04/04/2009, -0/+10At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
- wpi97, on 04/04/2009, -2/+12Any man who has ever seen a woman give birth would agree. :)
- CoD4, on 04/04/2009, -2/+11Ah yes the lesser of two evils analogy, not very wise dude
- pintomp3, on 04/04/2009, -0/+9photochop
- MacEnvy, on 04/04/2009, -4/+12That's incorrect, archiesteel. There are not only tons of nerve endings in the foreskin, but it also serves the function of keeping the glans soft. Without it, the skin gets scaly and desensitized. Research it, you'll find out I'm right.
Unnecessary circumcision is BAD. - DavidGX, on 04/04/2009, -2/+10Enjoy your genital mutilation.
- IdanH14, on 04/04/2009, -1/+9That ballances what Salad said, and it's true, though it's more about the fact they do NOTHING for the benefit of the state, and claim they do MUCH by studying the Holly Torah (pun intended).
- blackopsfreak06, on 04/04/2009, -8/+16Racism really isn't cool.
