First they came for the Socialists, and I didn’t speak up,
because I wasn’t a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists,
and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak up for me.
Martin Niemöller - jtingley, on 10/31/2007, -6/+141Despite what people may think, The people of America could revolt and succeed.
Remember folks, If a Revolution did get kicked off, It's not the US Military the revolutionaries would be facing most likely. Most are overseas and the rest would have a crisis of conscience before firing on their own people.
The Police force is mostly who Rebels would face, That's the only force who is use to going up against their own people on a regular basis.

- iAlex, on 10/31/2007, -28/+133It is time for revolution and impeachment. How long will you wait? When you all have RFIDs in your bodies and on all items? When you are called up to fight Iran in another meaningless war? Do you really think the Republicans will nominate Ron Paul even if he is strongly supported? No. That would ruin all their evil plans. Ron Paul make people aware, and that's an important role. Do you think all the military would go against the people? No, they might also be tired of this. Maybe they would help you (the military).
These idiots are also an influence on EU and other countries in the world, brainwashing them that wiretapping, censorship and so on is important for fighting terrorism, which is a lie. Terrorism is just a cover for what they want to do, turn USA and EU into a policestate. George W. Bush is just playing dumb so people would think "No way that idiot could be behind that", but the truth is, there are people behind him who take the decisions. The media is helping them very well, that is why they don't criticized the Iraq War and wrote so little about the so called WMDs. It is in everyone's interest to do something about it. It would be hard to organize, since the government would arrest people for "conspiring" against the government, and they would call it "Terrorism", they seem to be able to call everything terrorism these days. The wiretapping of phones and even Internet would also be obstacles. But there are ways to be anonymous on the web, with Tor http://tor.eff.org/ for example. It is time for you, the American People to do something about it, otherwise USA and the rest of the world is doomed to get worse and worse and what will you say to your children when they ask you, "why didn't you do anthing?"

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+71No. I see this scenario possible: Cheney allowing a suitcase nuke to be smuggled inside the Capital and detonated during a session of Congress having a significant number of members present on the floor. Bang. In one stroke, America loses the only opposition capable of stopping Cheney. Immediately Bush blames it on Iran, declares martial law, there is no more Congress to stop him. Rupert Murdoch beats the media drums for war, we attack Iran as Cheney so badly wants. And then we are caught in a police state where no one dares protest, even surviving Congressmen. Bush also in the past issued an Executive Order allowing him to temporarily appoint replacements for members of Congress in such an event. He supplemented it with NSPD-51. All the pieces are in place to run a police state now with the exception of a National ID, not yet implemented but you can bet it will be mandatory if we go to martial law. Bush and Cheney are rats with their backs to the wall, and dangerous men because they will do anything to retain power. Approval ratings mean nothing once you have a second Reichstag fire and go to martial law.

Because when the time comes, I don't want someone who can't answer "Yes" on the line with me. - jeuhrn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+55For Americans (and possibly the rest of the world), things are looking to become interesting, in the chinese sense.
- mjduell, on 10/11/2007, -3/+54Think that is bad? Look up these other Executive Orders. I know some here say that this is not a bad thing and we are all crazy, but under the right situation we lose all of our property and rights. This is just another EO that will eventually trash the Constitution and move us into servitude. It's a shame that most of us are asleep or in denial. Using the Global Warming arguement "Even if Global Warming is not happening, what is the harm in getting involved and making some changes for the betterment of the country". I maybe wrong, but what is the harm of getting involved and making the government back on track?:
EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 allows the government to take over all modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports. EXECUTIVE ORDER 10995 allows the government to seize and control the communication media.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 10997 allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels and minerals.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 10998 allows the government to take over all food resources and farms.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11000 allows the government to mobilize civilians into work brigades under government supervision.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11001 allows the government to take over all health, education and welfare functions.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11002 designates the Postmaster General to operate a national registration of all persons.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11003 allows the government to take over all airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority to relocate communities, build new housing with public funds, designate areas to be abandoned, and establish new locations for populations.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11005 allows the government to take over railroads, inland waterways and public storage facilities.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11310 grants authority to the Department of Justice to enforce the plans set out in Executive Orders, to institute industrial support, to establish judicial and legislative liaison, to control all aliens, to operate penal and correctional institutions, and to advise and assist the President. EXECUTIVE ORDER 11049 assigns emergency preparedness function to federal departments and agencies, consolidating 21 operative Executive Orders issued over a fifteen year period.
EXECUTIVE ORDER 11921 allows the Federal Emergency Preparedness Agency to develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms of production and distribution, of energy sources, wages, salaries, credit and the flow of money in U.S. financial institution in any undefined national emergency. It also provides that when a state of emergency is declared by the President, Congress cannot review the action for six months. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has broad powers in every aspect of the nation. - callthisnumber, on 10/11/2007, -17/+63Whatever...
All you vegan hippies have nothing to fear. All us "gun nuts" have been sure to protect our second amendment rights up until now so inflicting a police state on us would be pretty tough. Something you all might want to think about there in New England.

Signing up to anything is the worst thing you can do right now. The government knows that any serious opposition to absolute rule would come from those most dedicated to upholding the original founding principles of the country. That includes militia groups. Remember the Dept of Homeland security guidelines on how to spot a domestic terrorist? Watch out for: people involved in militia groups, people who place a religious authority above the authority of the US government, people who quote the constitution and the ammendments, etc. Those groups are being actively monitored. The only way for you to do something about it in relative safety will be for you to start it yourself. Begin talking about it, begin forming associations with like minded individuals, decide on a course of action then begin acting on it now. And remember, if it gets to the stage where you have to pick up your guns then you have already waited too long.
On a side note, I would suggest that any activity you decide to do, be it promoting peaceful non-compliance, distribution of leaflets or otherwise - that you do not do it in a large organised fashion. Keep it small and compartmentalised into cells that act completely independently of each other and of central leadership. You cannot kill a movement that has no head. Just make sure that the original founding principles are solid and based on a moral foundation that will give it vision, then send each of your working partners out to recruit new members for their own network until those people in turn are ready to be sent out. - Lewie, on 10/11/2007, -4/+31I'd probably look to a local militia. I hope those guys are polishing their barrels and stocking up the shelters.
- msbabc, on 10/11/2007, -2/+28Every single one of the defenders of this executive order quotes the "violence" section. What about the completely subjective "undermining efforts"?
- aukxsona, on 10/11/2007, -1/+25Alone we are all *****. However, if you talk with your neighbours and have a "I'll watch your ass if you watch mine" policy. No one is *****. Our tiny little neighbourhood has this kind of policy about crime, drugs, vandalism, etc... If someone came to my house while I was out, my neighbour would tell me. If someone tried to vandalize my house, my neighbour would run them off. If someone tried to hurt my neighbour I would stand by his side. We all have meetings to check to see who's new in the neighbourhood, if they have a criminal record etc... It's like a crime watch meeting. Same thing here, only one more criminal to look out for.
- mdfrake, on 10/11/2007, -4/+27I hear people say, "Just wait a year, he'll be gone and things will get better." Executive orders like this are why we can't wait a year. The something to do is to write or call your congressmen and demand impeachment articles be drafted against Cheney for outing a CIA officer, and against Bush for not "upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States of America." Which, by the way, he has now sworn to do twice.

- Eldavidos, on 10/11/2007, -5/+27I'm pretty sure that in the 1930's, Europe, many individuals were told that they were were being hysterical because a man called Adolf was ignoring laws, individual rights and declaring emergencies all over the place.
Nero - The Roman Republic - similar story.

Many people did nothing. Seems that people never learn from history. - LetsGoHawks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23As previously stated, any attempt by Bush to seize a "president for life" dictator type status will fail, he's too unpopular.
In order for it to work, he would need strong support from the military and police. I suspect a LOT of the military would not go along with it... they may not storm the White House but they wouldn't stop civilians from doing it either. And "the police" are not a homogeneous unit in this country, far from it. There are 50 state agencies and thousands of local forces, all with independent leadership.... and most of them would probably not support Bush in this either. Even if they did, the gun nuts are quick to talk about how they need their guns to keep just this kind of scenario from happening.
So don't panic, just hope Jan. 20, 2009 gets here quickly.

I have said this before and I will say it again. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO REVOLT AGAINST ANYTHING. NONE OF YOU, NOT ONE OF YOU, HAS HALF THE BALLS IT TAKES TO GIVE UP YOUR IPOD'S, HDTV, AND HOURS OF TROLLING DIGG. YOU ARE JUST TO DAM COMFY AND COMPLAINING IS JUST MUCH EASIER THAN YOU DOING ANYTHING. STOP SAYING REVOLT. YOU WILL NOT DO IT. PUT YOUR TAIL BETWEEN YOUR LEGS AND GO BACK TO TROLLING. JUST STOP THE REVOLT TALK. WHEN ONE OF YOU, ANY OF YOU, STEPS UP AND DOES IT, LET ME KNOW.
- MadN, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22Bush and the Republicans may destroy America, but they will never "have" America the way they intended.
/Not yours, you bunch of sick fascist Neocons - Beltiras, on 10/11/2007, -4/+23It's not just any kook. This is a Republican that served under Reagan.
- jeuhrn, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22It's kinda hard to "control" an enemy dressed as a civilian, who doesn't come out and fight in regiments but instead uses terrorist and in some cases guerrilla tactics. No regulated army can fight this. Also if you cut the head of the snake, three new ones grow out. This sort of thing has to be pulled out by the root, and it doesn't seem that anyone in the American government or military administration quite know how to do this.
- moxley, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20What people who claim this is hysteria aren't getting is that there is waaaay more to this that just this lastest Bush edict. Google some of the executive orders and terms mentioned in my post - if you can't see that we are in the brink I think you're in denial.
You certainly aren't hearing about this stuff in the mainstream media. Pactically the entire Bill of Rights has been subverted in the past 6 years, and most people simply aren't aware of it.
The insurrection act was changed *literally* in the middle of the night with no process - posse comitatus is history. Why do you think all of these things are being done? Do you think it's to keep you safe from those big bad terrorists?
Because to me, looking at all of this stuff, - these are all laws that apply to Americans in America, not even people who have been convicted of any crime. SO when you look at things like this recent executive order, and include the FEMA executive orders, NSPD51, the PATRIOT act, the Warner Defense Act and the Military Commissions act all taken together are a framework for martial law and dictatorial rule (no, I am not saying we are under full blown dicatorial rule now, but after the next terror attack you can bet we will be - and what will you say or do about it then)? - SavageBlackCat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20We did do something. We elected them based on their promises to curtail the Bush administration. The question then becomes "why haven't the Democrats lived up to their promise?"
- elucubra, on 10/11/2007, -11/+30That's the ***** problem. All the militia talk, all the tradition of associationism, all the "you cant take my freedoms from me" have turned to smoke. You USAians ( american encompasses all of the dwellers of the american continent, "north americans" encompasses canadians and mexicans) have turned, as a majority, into a flock of sheep, fed by the media (who care nothing about anything except revenue from advertising). Get up and do something!
- mjduell, on 10/11/2007, -1/+19Who here are in the Military and would gladly uphold the Constitution instead of the Executive Order? Could you shoot your own fellow Americans if ordered? I would hope not. Many of my own friends in the military and police departments said if it came down to it, they would side with the people. If we ever do get to a true police state I believe revolution will not be to far behind.
- aukxsona, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22Every God fearing Southerner, every patriot and libertarian ought to have your back.
- sidwheat, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22Which bit is inaccurate? Source?
Please elaborate. - kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20When then attack bush is planning happens on US soil, DON'T FALL FOR IT.
To attack Iran, Bush needs his army. If the people of America refuse, revolt and do not fall for the 'your with us or against us' crap he can't go to war. - GeneralAntilles, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Regular standing armies can do no good against a well-armed (face it, American civillians are pretty well armed) guerilla force. There are somewhere around 250 million firearms in the country and a lot of land between coasts, do you really think it's likely that the military will be able to take and hold that? But, really, that's not even relevant, how many military personnel are actually going to take up arms against their friends and families?
- kazamx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+20Lets see if you got the balls when they come for you.
I know its not popular to say but man I have respect for those men and women in Iraq. I don't agree with what they stand for, but they have balls of steel. They have the worlds biggest military super power with all the greatest weapons and highly trained soldiers after them. They are bakers, mechanics, teachers, bankers, IT workers, plumbers etc. Regular joes, but they don't give up.
Its the one thing Bush doesn't understand. He broke Iraqs army. But the people, their spirit can't be broken. They believe in an Iraq not controlled by America and the people are not fighting because its their job like the US soldiers, their fighting for their homes and families. When Bush turns his guns on the American population, will they have the same courage? - errantseed, on 10/11/2007, -2/+19I believe the people have chosen their fate. we have chosen with our inaction. those of us who see clearly what is happening are, sadly, just a small number- in other words, the minority. will people unite to confront those who intend to strip them of their freedom? no, because it is not them who would ruin their lives, they are not the immediate threat- it is the landlord, the employer, the bank, and anyone else who would threaten to take away what little they have and work hard for. tell your employer that you're not coming to work because you're going to protest or rally- see what he thinks about that when he's trying maximize profits. better call in sick (should you have to lie?) but what happens if you get injured or arrested during a protest? your employer might not care for that one bit. you might be without a job. then you'll have to deal with Mr. landowner come rent time. so, do you play Mr. idealist when you have a family to clothe and feed, or do you accept that you've made a slave of yourself but at least you're not hungry and homeless. you see, the things we must do for the reclamation of freedom, be it protesting, writing letters to congressmen, anything which takes effort becomes, simply, just a major inconvenience. the people have also forgotten that the government is a powerful tool- and it was meant to give great power to those who would use it. the only problem is that if the majority of American people do not use it, then a small number of people can say "well if they're not using it, then we'll use, and then we'll be able to all kinds of things- until somebody notices. the power goes from the people to the greedy, evil little men.
- rajkalex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Don't think for a second that the military, NG, or police would be quick to defend Bush. After all, they are all made up of citizens of the United States.
