- MODernMxcn, on 11/13/2008, -1/+30yeah! we need more young adults to start running for office in our local communities, because many of these old folks dont understand we're in a new century, congrats to you vanessa!
- ceramufary, on 11/13/2008, -2/+19I'm a 27 year old college senior right now, and I'm very very excited for Ms. Sievers, but having a really difficult time imagining trying to complete a college degree *and* serve as County Treasurer at the same time! I hope she can get course credit. "Political Science 499: Service Learning." Perhaps this will make her thesis.
Man, most people have trouble holding down a table-waiting job and finishing school. - dispatched, on 11/13/2008, -1/+17those damn brainwashed college kids and their wretched series of tubes strike again.
- roseberry99, on 11/13/2008, -1/+12I wonder if I can change my voter registration to "teenybopper" party. It's the best thing that's happened to partisan politics.
- johnleemk, on 11/14/2008, -1/+11I'm a Dartmouth sophomore, and I don't think many people here expected her to win. The incumbent has a point - a lot of the students here just voted a straight Democratic ticket. But I think Sievers is up to it - she apparently intends to remain on campus until she graduates, without taking any long vacations.
The incumbent's complaints are also correct only up to a point - over 40,000 people voted in the election for country treasurer. There are only 4,000 undergrads and about 1,000 grad students at Dartmouth, and from what I understand, only about 3,000 total are eligible to vote. That makes over 17,000 non-brainwashed-college-kids who voted for Sievers the Dartmouth junior.
Go Big Green! - sandburn, on 11/13/2008, -1/+10check... and... mate...
i would. - Morcaradhras, on 11/14/2008, -1/+9she's hotter than Palin
- macaca, on 11/13/2008, -1/+7That's what GOP ( Grumpy Old People ) think that youth cant think. In fact youths are more objective and visionary then those old farts.
- Blacksoth, on 11/14/2008, -1/+6"Do us all a favor: Stay at home and play with your Facetubes and your Super Grand Theft Mario cartridges, and stop trying to improve things all the time."
Instant classic. - inactive, on 11/14/2008, -2/+6It's like being the mayor of a small Alaskan town - it's just a part time job.
- FallenTurtles, on 11/14/2008, -1/+4MrRabbit, how do you have any clue what rexcrouch has done with his life? I know the point you're making it and I respect that, but I don't think it's fair to assume that he hasn't accomplished something as important, or even bigger, as being a small town mayor or governor.
- boulder555, on 11/14/2008, -1/+4The neo-cons are NOT the base of the GOP. That honor goes to the Christian Right (you remember, like grandma & grandpa but not as wise). And, with the virulent strain of anti-religion posing as Libertarianism, I think your premise is correct (that more votes will go blue) and that the current alliance that makes up the Party (Libertarians, Constitutionalists, small c-conservatives, Religionists, Mises Economists) has buckled in this primary/election and must undergo a frame straightening.
Why not join us at monthly GOP meetings and help take the Party back to the Constitution. Freedom is easy to sell. - avengingturnip, on 11/14/2008, -2/+5Oh, and the Neocons ARE liberal. That is why they are called 'neo'. They all came over from the Democratic party in the '80's with their Trotskyite backgrounds intact.
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3Actually, they initially left the Democrat party in the late 60s/early 70s. They're the Dem warmongers that got us into Korea and Vietnam.
...And they're the reason I left the Republican party. They're a ***** cancer. - inactive, on 11/14/2008, -1/+3Smart Girl. What's she doing in 2012?
- FredFredrickson, on 11/14/2008, -1/+3Interesting article, but god dammit that title gives me a headache.
- avengingturnip, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2They have been swearing the Hippocratic oath. Awful people.
- jetcombo15, on 11/14/2008, -1/+3That's pretty crazy, but it's a great sign of hope for the future.
Still, I have no idea how she's gonna be able to keep up juggling both her college life as well as her duties as county treasurer. - MrRabbit, on 11/19/2008, -0/+1Good luck finding me. Petty internet threats, very valid.
- Tbyrd073, on 11/14/2008, -2/+3Damn Hippos.
- nmezib, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2those damn whippersnappers....
in all seriousness.. go Vanessa! - GlassAgate, on 11/14/2008, -2/+3First, the elders bitch that youngsters don't do anything
to help their communities out. Now, one has, and one
of the elders bitches about it. Hippocrates. - inthefade, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2Awesome.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+1MrRabbit. I was fully retired at age 39. I have served in multiple U.S. embassies around the world, I speak three languages, and my education level, not to mention my job experience puts Palin to shame. I don't want to be a politician but I expect my politicians to be intelligent and experienced. Palin is neither. I expect my politicians to show a high level of integrity which Palin does not. I think Palin is a joke and the First Punk not worthy of an ass kicking, although he needs it. If you want to talk ***** about me contact me: rexacrouch dot com, you might be surprised by how quickly I find you.
- Poseur117, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1dying*
- MrRabbit, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1I am working under the assumption that I am not talking to any high ranking government officials or big business CEOs on the DIGG forums. I hope I am wrong, trust me, because that would be really cool, but I seeeeriously doubt it.
And still referring to her as a mayor is just plain stupid. It's like saying Obama is a community organizer/ President Elect, or that Bill Gates is a fry cook/ Microsoft CEO. You get a job, you step up the ladder, you move on.
Being a mayor would not make rexcrouch as accomplished as she is, still gotta beat governor of a state. Good luck. - iDragonFly, on 11/14/2008, -0/+120 year old Vanessa Sievers - learning capacity increasing.
68 year old Carol Elliot - learning capacity shrinking.
Sievers - vital and positive.
Elliot - cranky and constipated. - mikeburck, on 11/13/2008, -2/+2It'll be interesting to see the political make-up of our country when (I feel bad saying it but...) the old people start dieing. Hopefully this new liberal movement really takes footing and continues to grow. Until the GOP drops their neocon base, I only see more votes going blue.
- kiley481, on 11/14/2008, -2/+2$51 on Facebook? That's ... like ... 510 packages of Ramen Noodles! I don't think she's really serious about campaign finance reform.
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -1/+1I love tubes!
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -8/+7I'd stuff her ballot box...
- roho76, on 11/14/2008, -4/+2Good for her but I wish she was a good Republican. There needs to be a newer generation in government.
- crapuccino, on 11/14/2008, -5/+2Good you Vanessa! Have a "Go Girl" from me.
GO GIRL! - MrRabbit, on 11/14/2008, -5/+1She was a Governor, much more than you or I have accomplished. She lost, which is very good, but no need to keep taking the petty jabs.
