- inactive, on 06/30/2008, -3/+5He doesn't attend the trinity united church anymore . He finally figured out it was run by hateful bigots. It only took 20 years attendance and nine months of publicity, but he did figure it out.
He will never admit to praying in a mosque because that would be a smear. He thinks any relationship between him and islam is horrible and will deny it to his last political breath.
He also seems to be the only nonmuslim who can sing the Friday call to prayer in perfect pitch and in Arabic, but I guess that's another one of his talents?
None of this matters to me as a voter. I think it is all secondary to the fact he's a gun grabbing rights stealing lying leftist liberal lawyer.
The sad thing is the media has now told us our choice is between OBushma and McSame. - Raymond28, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1To be honest, mrjbraves, Barack Obama's iffy religious convictions are only a part of the the problem:

Put it all together, and it becomes very clear that this fellow is incontrovertibly someone in whom
foolishness runs deep. - inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1actually NObama did NOT "figure it out", NObama's handlers told NObama to avoid it
- eyeopener, on 09/03/2008, -1/+2I wouldn't vote for Obama on a bet, but I would agree that the conversation about his background is more of a distraction than anything else. I got that Obama was as phony as a three dollar bill the minute I looked at the positions on his website. "We should have more control of our borders, but we should give illegal alliens citizenship." etc. He is a master crowd pleaser through the art of saying almost nothing and playing both sides of the fence. It demonstrates though, what percentage of people in this country and in the world are simply walking around half conscious.
The Muslim background thing is just one of the little decorations on the icing on the cake. The coverup of it, that is. Had he been honest about it (assuming this article is telling the truth) then that would actually be a half a point in his favor, in my book. The being honest part, that is. How many of our presidents have been "raised Christian"? And look what we got!
The sad thing is, we only have John McCain as the "viable" opposition. Had we had an electorate that was more than half-conscious, we would be seeing Ron Paul as our next president. Best to vote for a third-party candidate, such as Libertarian or Constitutionalist. The rest is just a horror show. - mrjbraves, on 09/13/2008, -1/+0Yeah, I know many 6-10 year olds that independently register themselves for school and decide what their religion is.
1) Do people really think that as a 6 year old, he signed up at Catholic school and said, oh by the way I'm Muslim? No, his mother would have signed him up and said that we was Muslim. Same thing for when he went to Muslim (or public Indonesian) school. He couldn't control what his mother put on the application form. I'm not sure that I would consider 2 years of Muslim school and 4 years in a Muslim country as "being a Muslim" or being "raised Muslim", so I think you could argue semantics on that one.
2) How many people have gone to Catholic school that do not subscribe to the Catholic faith? I know of quite a few myself. They had to go through all of those Catholic practices as kids even though as adults they don't believe same practices they once performed. That doesn't make someone Catholic, it means they were educated in a Catholic school.
3) Before I became a Christian I wasn't anything. Does that make me always an atheist, agnostic, etc. just because I was at one point? Religious views can change. What if someone studied Hinduism then became a Buddhist. Does that mean they are a Hindu? No, they are a Buddhist.
4) If Obama was a Muslim, would he REALLY go to a Christian church for 20 years? Why? What would be the point? So he could run for president? I would think that it would be quite an insult to the Islamic faith to assume that someone who is Muslim would lie about it. I can't imagine many Muslims having respect for someone who, if they were Muslim, claimed they weren't.
5) The article claims that a childhood friend of Obama said they never prayed "seriously" in a mosque. Could it be that they went through the motions, but that as a 6-10 year olds, would not felt they were praying? - beebelo, on 06/30/2008, -5/+1It's more of the same political smear tactics. ("He might be a closet Muslim! Omigawd!") Never ever ever talk about the issues. Always keep attention focused on the lowest common denominator--FUD.
(I am a non-supporter of Obama, but as cashman57 said, I'm not supporting him not because of this anti-Islam crap.
HELLO! We have thousands of decent, law-abiding, Muslim U.S. citizens in this country of R-e-l-i-g-i-o-u-s F-r-e-e-d-o-m.
