- asgardshill, on 11/09/2009, -13/+116False headline - the word 'teabagger' was not quoted as being said by Obama anywhere in the linked article.
- Orbital101, on 11/09/2009, -4/+59I'm not affiliated with either party so you can trust that this I am speaking from an unbiased perspective when I say:
The submitter is childish twit for misquoting Obama on purpose. - Junkyarddawg, on 11/09/2009, -15/+70He didn't, actually.
Buried as inaccurate, lying, propaganda crap. - fxmulder, on 11/08/2009, -39/+78 This man really is a troll.
- kahoona1, on 11/09/2009, -14/+51Who the ***** is upvoting these comments?
- algaeturd, on 11/09/2009, -5/+41wingnut circle jerk takes place on Digg every single night when it's late and they start barking at the moon.
- BerateBirthers, on 11/09/2009, -30/+60If the name fits.
You don't want to be insulted? Try working with an actual news station, not a bunch of partisan right-wing trip. - algaeturd, on 11/09/2009, -19/+46I'm digging you up only because I know you're talking about the submitter. Who is, in fact, a troll.
- Orbital101, on 11/09/2009, -24/+49Here's something you forgot to mention: The word "teabagger" doesn't appear anywhere in the article.
He uses the word "teabag" because it refers to the Boston Tea Party, which the opposition has identified itself with. "Teabagger" is a term that means "putting your ballsack in someone's mouth". You know that, but you put it in the title anyhow because you want to make it look worse than it is.
I just gotta ask myself sometimes: Does anyone from *either* party understand that when they do childish stuff like this, it discredits their own cause? - BasalCellBossk, on 11/09/2009, -25/+45Cry more, you !right wing hysterics. We're all laughing at you.
- jaytek13, on 11/09/2009, -5/+21There's more teabagging going on here every morning at this hour than a frat house.
- algaeturd, on 11/09/2009, -8/+24Since when have republicans given a ***** about truth and facts?
This is just another example of how they twist reality to fit their irrational, illogical world.
When things aren't the way you'd like them to be, change them to fit your agenda and present false quotes as real quotes and maybe you too can work for Fox News someday. - algaeturd, on 11/09/2009, -28/+42Why do you hate America so much, Troika37?
Honestly.
You seem to hate America and Americans more than you hate the government itself.
Did you learn the whole 'lie to make 'facts' fit your tweaked reality' from Fox News? - Orbital101, on 11/09/2009, -9/+23You forgot "Darth Vader", "Hannibal Lecter" and "The Joker".
I mean, if you're gonna stretch the truth you might as well go for broke. - aadyss, on 11/09/2009, -6/+15“Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? So is the point if you disagree with Obama you are an extremist? - WasabiBomb, on 11/09/2009, -4/+131) Open story
2) CTRL-F
3) Search for "Teabag"
Result: “Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? All it will do is confuse and dispirit” Democratic voters “and it will encourage the extremists.”'
The word Teabagger doesn't exist anywhere in the story. What you're trying to blame him for is merely conjecture. Or were YOU there?
And, by the way, I think you'll find that my supposed "anti-Republican" comments are, for the most part, anti-anti-Obama comments- I tend to reply to particularly egregious examples of Obama Derangement Syndrome. We tend to get a lot of those around there- and this story is a great example of that very thing. I'm not anti-Republican... I'm anti-hypocrite. - ninjaofpatience, on 11/09/2009, -10/+19Except that you didn't quote anyone, in your article title or in your comment.
Fail troll is fail. - BabyFirefly, on 11/09/2009, -10/+19A dictator? Are you serious? If so, I'll gladly invite you over to my country, where people get stalked and shot for speaking against the government, everything is extremely censored, and where the only thing that matters are the interests of those who are rich (even if the rich are rich through highly illegal and horrible ways).
I suggest you learn just a teeny bit about Fujimori, Somoza, Pinochet and Douvalier before you start spitting the word "dictator" to Obama.
You haven't been through a dictatorship, don't disgrace those who truly have suffered through one that way. - reticulate, on 11/09/2009, -4/+13@ineversleep: Hey dude, ever wonder why the only time you get stuff to the front page is late at night in the US?
Because the rest of your country have lives. Meanwhile you synchronise his ***** on whatever circlejerk forum you're a regular at (LGF? FreeRepublic? Who ***** cares). I imagine you all feel great about saying your piece, and having your little club give you some diggs. Except of course it all ends up buried by the next day, because nobody gives a *****.
I get to say this, because I'm Australian and sick as ***** of seeing your crap all over my RSS feed. - kahoona1, on 11/09/2009, -2/+11They must be awake for their morning pills.
- trevor98, on 11/09/2009, -10/+18Thankfully this is fake. I felt let down by the idea that the President would use such a course and divisive term.
- whatthefu, on 11/09/2009, -15/+22Yeah, uh, where does he say "teabagger" exactly? Because people at tea parties throw around teabags as a symbol. Don't ***** carry around teabags if you don't want to be associated with them.
- ineversleep, on 11/09/2009, -10/+17An opportunity to do something as big as social security? What a poor choice of words. Hey guys, lets make another government program destined for failure.
- rotundo, on 11/09/2009, -5/+12I hear your question, and here's my answer:
Nothing gives you the right to benefit from my hard work. However, if I want to live in a peaceful, stable society, it is in my own best interest to chip in.
That concept may make some people's skin crawl. They'll call me a collectivist. But if they interact positively with anyone who received a public education, anyone who has been protected by the police or assisted by firefighters, driven on roads, lived in a country safe from external military invasion, anyone who has ever collected unemployment or social security, then they are hypocrites. The chances that they've paid their fair share or more is slim. Many of the social services that the government provides are absolutely critical to our country's stability and growth, and they are provided by the government precisely because no non-governmental organization took the job.
You can go too far with social services of course, and so we have to be careful about that, but this recently over-promoted idea that we'd be better off if it was 100% every man for himself is absolutely myopic. If one really believes that, then they should go someplace where there is no government intervention. What you will find is that these places are usually subsistence farmers if you're lucky and warlord territories if you're not. There is no successful society on earth that does not practice some degree of collectivism.
So I guess another way to answer your question: you have the right to benefit from my hard work because it helps me live in a stable country.
Working out the details of how much is what all the debate is about. Dismissing it entirely is idiocy. - aadyss, on 11/09/2009, -5/+12Delphium226,
Reagan began the process of lowering the tax rates. Under Carter the highest tax rate was 70% on income over $215,400 for married filing jointly, $108,300 for single filers.
Under Reagan in 1988 the tax rates were:
Tax Reform Act of 1986
Tax Rate Married Filing Jointly
15% 0 -$29,750
28% $29,750 - $71,900
33% $29,750 - $149,250
28% $149,250
President Reagan called for a further reduction, to 17.5 percent, as part of his 1985 plan to overhaul the Federal income tax system. But Congressional tax writers [ Democrat controlled Congress] decided, instead, to raise the top capital gains rate to 33 percent in crafting the Tax Reform Act of 1986.
In October of 1985, Vice President Bush called for a 15 percent tax on long-term capital gains, a proposal that drew "sharp criticism from Democratic contenders in the 1985 Presidential race." In 1985 Democrats also thought it was 'unfair' for investment profits to be treated more favorably than wages from a worker's labors.
Under G.H. Bush, married filing jointly
15% $0 - $35,900
28% $35,900 - $86,500
31% $86,500
Under Clinton 2000, married filing jointly
15% $0 - $43,850
28% $43,850 - $105,950
31% $105,950 - $161,450
36% $161,450 - $288,350
39.6% $288,350
Under G.W. Bush, married filing jointly
10% $0 - $17,700
15% $17,700 - $67,900
25% $67,900 - $137, 050
28% $137, 050 - $208,850
33% $208,850 - $372,950
35% $372,950 -
Obama
Reinstate the Clinton 36% and 39.6% on those earning $250,000 (married) $200,000 (single). He also is calling for a reinstatement of the "personal exemption phaseout" and limitation on the deductions applied to taxpayers earning more than the incomes mentioned above. He also would raise the tax rate on capital gains and dividends to 20 percent. An increase of 5%. - quirkopatra, on 11/09/2009, -2/+9The title is inaccurate. They story is interesting though. Tea partiers aren't anti-government, they are anti BIG government. Also, I think it's wrong to paint tea partiers as extremists. It's as though government is saying, "Anyone disagreeing with the health care bill is an anti-government extremist."
It's exactly the kind of ***** left-wingers got their noses out of joint about under the Bush administration. Dissent, they claimed, was patriotic and people were insulting their patriotism.
Here, we have the commander in chief, a leader of the government, making another statement about dissent as extremist. - Thud, on 11/09/2009, -1/+7You're correct.... Obama said "teabag" and not "teabagger."
- WasabiBomb, on 11/09/2009, -4/+10And what intent would that be, @Peanut?
- Coven, on 11/09/2009, -6/+11Actually...knowing fxmulder's comment history, he was, in fact, referring to Obama.
- WasabiBomb, on 11/09/2009, -10/+15... Except he didn't, you know, insult anyone. You'd be willing to believe anything as long as it makes Obama look bad.
Stay classy, PeanutCheeseBar. - darkened, on 11/09/2009, -3/+8Damn straight, I'm really starting to believe terrorism won that we're to the point that we call people that believe in the Constitution the extremists.
- thecoolestguy, on 11/09/2009, -9/+14@zoomer, I was being sarcastic. Of course health care isn't free. It's only free for the poor (e.g. unemployed single moms who stay at home pumping out babies).
- unluckybastard, on 11/09/2009, -12/+17***** you, Troika37
you lie! - Paranor01, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5story isn't fake, just the headline
- reticulate, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5I say just remove any sort of service from him that is paid for by taxes.
Of course, he could stop being a pussy and actually live by his convictions, but how would he get internets out in the forest from his shack? - ThsGuyRightHere, on 11/09/2009, -4/+8@Munkey: You want to know what gives you the right to benefit from my hard work? I'll tell you - the same thing that gives you the right to sleep securely knowing that if something bad happens to you, your family or your home you can dial 911 and have a squad care, fire truck, or ambulance come to your aid. It's the same thing that lets you drive on the road that's paid for by my taxes, even though I personally may not drive on it. It's the same thing that lets your children or grandchildren go to adequately funded schools and get taught by adequately paid teachers, which are paid for in part by my tax dollars even though I'm not a student.
Why am I okay with all of the above? Besides benefiting myself from basic public safety services, it's good for me for you to be able to drive on the roads you drive on. You're part of the same economy that I'm a part of and you contribute to the same GDP that I do. By virtue of your kids getting a decent education I'll one day benefit from whatever work they do to make the world a better place. At a minimum, by getting a decent education and embarking on a career your kids or grandkids won't be breaking into my house or mugging me on the street. - thecoolestguy, on 11/09/2009, -12/+16GIMME FREE HEALTH CARE [/Octomom at a single payer rally]
- joaob, on 11/09/2009, -10/+14Buried for being inaccurate. The title is false and Obama never says' the word "teabagger".
- flip2trip, on 11/09/2009, -3/+7Thank god you're not the President.
- psion01, on 11/09/2009, -12/+16Troika ... given your deliberate misrepresentation of the article, please do me a favor?
Get off my side. - sanchezke70, on 11/09/2009, -7/+11so⋅ci⋅e⋅ty
/səˈsaɪɪti/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [suh-sahy-i-tee]
–noun
1. an organized group of persons associated together for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes.
2. a body of individuals living as members of a community; community.
3. the body of human beings generally, associated or viewed as members of a community: the evolution of human society.
4. a highly structured system of human organization for large-scale community living that normally furnishes protection, continuity, security, and a national identity for its members: American society. - ThsGuyRightHere, on 11/09/2009, -3/+7Irrespective of the way it's been managed, without social security numerous retirees would be penniless. Do me a favor, tell everyone over 60 you think social security was a mistake. Go ahead, tell them you feel the same way about medicare. See if you can count on the retirement homes to bus people in on election day.
- Moralogic, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5If only xman8 knew exactly what socialize meant, and the exact type of government the founding fathers meant for this to be. (It is a Representative Democracy by the way, not a republic, not a direct democracy.)
- Glynth, on 11/09/2009, -1/+5Try answering the question next time. "Society says so" is about the worst reason you could have come up with - such an attitude is abhorrent and goes against the foundation of this country. This is why we're a representative REPUBLIC, not a true democracy.
- sciencelovesyou, on 11/09/2009, -2/+6During one of their first big pushes, there was a pretty sizeable... well, I wouldn't quite call it a crowd, nor a gathering. A flock? Anywho, there was a Pack of Protesters, and a good two or three people did actually have signs referring to themselves as Teabaggers of/for Freedom or some such. Apparently the members of a Tea Party, to them, conjugated to Teabaggers.
My world has never quite been the same since. - quirkopatra, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4I believe you bury as inaccurate.
- deema1, on 11/09/2009, -2/+5What a petty human being. I can't say I'm surprised. This coming from the man who callously began his speech immediately following a terrorist attack at Fort Hood by giving shout outs to attendees. Easily the worst President ever.
- shnizep, on 11/09/2009, -1/+4ok.... so black "teabaggers" don't want a black guy as president. That makes a lot of sense... Don't think it has anything do to with color. Open your eyes to what's going on.
- BoneStamp, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3@ineversleep
I don't think anyone believes that you owe them any money. However, it is the belief of some people that a modern civilization values the life of everyone in that society. Therefore, if someone cannot afford the services to be healthy, then society feels it is more valuable to provide very basic medical care than to ensure you have enough money to buy a second boat -- although that is still very important, just not as important as human lives.
Now that you understand where they're coming from on this, I'll say that I agree with you for the most part, especially that they did have a lifetime to save for this. However, 50 years ago, there were no medical procedures that cost $50,000 (even in relative dollars). So, we're just giving them the benefit of the doubt, that they did plan for health care but there was no way they could have predicted modern medical developments and estimated their cost.
All of that aside, we probably do owe our freedom to some of these people. -
