- Apokalyps2547, on 11/12/2009, -0/+50"President? Do you know how much power I would have to give up to be President?"
~Lex Luthor - tradeplumbing, on 11/12/2009, -2/+40The President of the United States of America is named the "Most Powerful Person in the World"?
Well spin my nipple-nuts and send me to Alaska! - ftc08, on 11/12/2009, -0/+35And the last 8 years it went to Bush, and the 8 years before that Clinton, 4 years before that Bush, 8 before that Reagan.
Nothing to see here people. - PowderedToasty, on 11/12/2009, -2/+24Yeah how is this news?
- OsceneInTx, on 11/12/2009, -5/+24Really? It outlines this in the constitution?
Are you sure you're not just an ***** with an opinion?
PS. Here is a copy of the US Constitution. Why don't you learn something before you open you're mouth and let ***** come out.

- OsceneInTx, on 11/12/2009, -1/+15While your statement might be true, that is definately not Obama's fault nor doing, and it was definately done legally, according to the laws set forth by the congress, approved by the president, and checked by the Justices, as authorized by the constitution. We may not agree with everything that was done - which is why it is pretty difficult to change anything in the first place, and it can take a long time to reverse what has been done. But if anything, we the people LET this happen.
I agree though, that appointed Justices is a stupid notion. They are only accountable to whoever puts them in power. And that would be the party that put them in power - no matter how impartial they claim to be.
But in no way does the constitution have any bearing on President of the US being a powerful person. That is in part due to our economic and technological superiority (which has been waning, but we still hold the head of the table..for now). I don't think the "power" you are thinking of is the same "power" they thought of when writing this.
Truth be told - the President, in his own country, is pretty powerless. If he REALLY was the most powerful person in the respect you are describing, he would've abolished the congress, justices, constitution, and made drastic changes according to his agenda, without any of the legal process. If the country followed him after that, and our military decided to back his decisions - then he would be the most powerful person in the way you are describing.
But look - he can barely get his own party to agree on healthcare. - kasjogren, on 11/12/2009, -2/+15We are, we are just doing it to our congressmen and senators.
- kasjogren, on 11/12/2009, -2/+13You lost the civil war and the 10th amendment argument. You would think after 150 years you guys would be over it.
- OsceneInTx, on 11/12/2009, -0/+11The states go along with what the Federal Government says. They still do have all their rights - it is them giving them up and going along with everything. It's quite simple really. The Federal government represents the people. The people want the nation to be united. The people confer benefits to the states, the states decide to accept them or not. If they accept, they have to follow the rules.
If anything, Obama has given power back to the states with the whole Medical Marijuana debate. Look, California said "***** Federal Law, this is what we think is right." Obama said "they think it's right, leave them alone." That alone has done more for States rights than anything in a very long long time. - kasjogren, on 11/12/2009, -2/+12Leader of the free world and all.
- lolerskate, on 11/12/2009, -4/+13Oh look the Alex Jones groupies are out, did you buy all his sponsors survival kits you know just to be ready against the global elite? And still using the internet? Dont you know the internet is a NWO plot to create a group mind and take over the world?
- slvrbullet87, on 11/12/2009, -2/+11Hold the phone and stop the presses, the leader of the free world is powerful... why did nobody tell me this before
- lolerskate, on 11/12/2009, -1/+10Sorry but i treat all crazy banter as the same, crazy banter.
Alex Jones is a kook that been feeding on the fears of paranoid gullible idiots.
Truth is reality, not what YOU think is reality.
Even now you think im mounting a whole conspiracy against you, i dont have any digg squad and im not following you the only reason im posting reply to your insane *****, is because it in every political tread i go on. - scottc, on 11/12/2009, -4/+11There aren't many liberals in the U.S., but my guess is that the vast majority of them are still complaining about the Patriot Act because it can't be justified with liberal ideology. I think that for the most part liberals are the only ones offering intelligent criticism of Obama. The right wingers are either making up stories or whining about losing power and everyone else seems to accept Obama's centrist and conservative positions on the issues.
- Apokalyps2547, on 11/12/2009, -0/+6CrazedLeper, having common sense doesn't make someone a sheep. Abandoning it, however, makes you a fool.
- juankovo, on 11/12/2009, -3/+9It's kind of ironic that the leader of the "free world" is so powerful. The freer the people in the free world are, the less power their governing officials will have.
- chinaman1212, on 11/12/2009, -1/+7found your picture on facebook

- BabyWookie, on 11/12/2009, -1/+6Crazy alert!
- FearlessFreep, on 11/12/2009, -0/+5Having a nuclear arsenal and huge standing armed forces at your disposal tends to skew the 'most powerful' voting
- FearlessFreep, on 11/12/2009, -1/+6The proper quote is :
"Well twist my nipple nuts and call me Susan" - gizram84, on 11/12/2009, -2/+7Wow what a shocker! You mean to tell me that the the most powerful person in the powerful nation in the world is considered one of the most powerful people in the world???? OMG!! What a revelation!!!
- BabyWookie, on 11/12/2009, -0/+4It's funny, even though probably accurate, that they put Putin instead of Medvedev at #3.
- ImTheDuke, on 11/12/2009, -1/+5hahaha what a *****
- appleofdischord, on 11/12/2009, -2/+6...but he knows how to use it for awesome
- sghod1212, on 11/12/2009, -1/+4Sure it isn't the only country in the world, but as one of the biggest and most developed it's naturally one of the most powerful countries too. Anyone who leads one of the most powerful countries in the world is obviously one of the most powerful people.
- drunkCatholic, on 11/12/2009, -1/+4***** the Patriot Act
- Bartboy919, on 11/12/2009, -0/+3http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2009/09/ju ...
- SushiCW, on 11/12/2009, -0/+3Agree with the first sentence, not so sure about the second.
Of course, the truth is that if POTUS is too powerful, it's *our* fault as citizens, not *his*. We're the ones who give him blame/credit for everything that happens. We're the ones who completely ignore local and state governments and elections, and who keep electing the same people to congress without holding them accountable. - Nlewis4, on 11/12/2009, -3/+6that's weird because I was able to read your comment with one
- Apokalyps2547, on 11/12/2009, -0/+3Largest economy by a huge margin.
Most powerful military by a huge margin.
Arguably the most pervasive culture.
When the President of the United States speaks, the world listens. - thansveld85, on 11/12/2009, -1/+3They're powerful enough to use a phone?
- prullos, on 11/12/2009, -4/+6So where are Rockefellers/Rothschilds in this list?
I suspect a conspiracy here! - ygugsa295, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2When you go there, find out if you can see Russia.
- Apokalyps2547, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2I too was hoping for the Clandestine Council of Shadowy Figures: George Soros, Al Gore, Michael Moore, Mecha-Karl Marx, Bill Ayers, Emperor Palpatine, and Krang.
- chinaman1212, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2I like you blog. and your sense of humor.
* add friend - appleseed1234, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2They could just as easily put Rupert Murdoch or certain Vice Presidents.
- firebird703, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2The US is the world's lone remaining super power. That would make us the most powerful. "Didn't you get the memo?"
- Beakers, on 11/12/2009, -0/+2lol you didnt get the olympics so lets nuke the ***** out of them
- Apokalyps2547, on 11/13/2009, -0/+2I'm talking about the more recent Bush, sorry for not clarifying.
For the first 6 of his 8 years as President, he enjoyed a Republican majority in the House.
For 4 and a half years of his Presidency, he also enjoyed a Republican majority in the Senate. This 4 1/2 years completely falls within when House was mostly Republican.
Thus, for most of G.W.Bush's Presidency, most of Congress was Republican. It's simple numbers, you can't spin this otherwise. - CrazedLeper, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1@thansveld85 said:
"They're powerful enough to use a phone?"
Very glib. Congratulations on missing even the most obvious of points. - firebird703, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1That's why they put the Prime Minister of Russia, and not Medvedev the "official" leader.
- FearlessFreep, on 11/12/2009, -1/+2"The freer the people in the free world are, the less power their governing officials will have."
that should be "should have".....doesn't quite work out that way, though - lifeasariver, on 11/13/2009, -0/+1When was the last time you took your pills?
