- chadsexingtime, on 06/17/2009, -16/+268But gay people having rights somehow undermines my worth as a person!
- dgendreau, on 06/17/2009, -24/+183I'm sure all the closeted Republicans will really appreciate this nice gesture while publicly condemning it.
- jeches, on 06/17/2009, -25/+153A small step, yet it means something.
- amoirae, on 06/17/2009, -19/+129How will the bigot brigade spin this to make it seem like the sky is falling?
- bethaners, on 06/17/2009, -6/+80Well, Zachary the gay couple can't get married currently, but it seems only fair that they have some path to those benefits.
- windmarble, on 06/17/2009, -15/+89♂♂ = ♀♀ = ♂♀

People marrying snakes! It's madness! - amoirae, on 06/17/2009, -8/+76Highest risk? Of what and of whom do you speak?
Better yet, do you have any proof? - TheNik, on 06/17/2009, -7/+74Ah, yes, the smoking, drinking, anti-protection, AIDS-ridden, butt-*****, needle-sharing, homosexual federal employee that works in Somalia. The highest risk category of people, indeed.
Dumbass. - glasnostic, on 06/17/2009, -6/+72you know what's high risk in this country..
driving a car and eating fast food.
WHERE IS YOUR OUTRAGE?
oh wait.. you just hate gay people.. never mind. - Hetman, on 06/17/2009, -4/+67If Gays were allowed to marry then we would not have this problem. Perhaps you should work on changing that law if you disagree with this.
- Hetman, on 06/17/2009, -3/+60They are not asking for anything extra. They are asking for the same benifits as all federal employees.
- antistupid, on 06/17/2009, -4/+56"Obama in bed with homosexuals? It appears so! We'll tell you about how Obama is giving your hard earned tax dollars to others for simply sleeping with the same sex. More on that later, but next, why do liberals support terroristic anti government acts in Iran via the internet? Our tech correspondent is here to talk to us about this new 'twitter' search engine that is being and could be used in the future to destroy stable governments like ours!"
- JoeMondo, on 06/17/2009, -5/+53Since the same sex couple has the choice to marry, they already have access to the same benefits.
- ManUnitdFan, on 06/17/2009, -8/+55At least our heterosexual marriage remains intact in most states. I'd hate to think how badly the American family would fall apart if gay people were allowed to get married all of a sudden.
- amoirae, on 06/17/2009, -2/+46And fairy tales mandating your interpretation on morality shouldn't be forced on everyone.
- ManUnitdFan, on 06/17/2009, -1/+45I didn't think a "/s" would be required here, but, apparently it is.
- absurdist, on 06/17/2009, -2/+45I'm a Lumberjack and I'm OK...
- JoeMondo, on 06/17/2009, -4/+46Your girlfriend can get your benefits if you choose the option available to you: marriage.
- pintomp3, on 06/17/2009, -12/+52The bigots are out in full force against equality.
- Kravin, on 06/17/2009, -2/+40They aren't their legal spouse because people like you don't want them to get married.
So you're saying you don't want us to have the same benefits as everyone else because we aren't married like everyone else, because you won't let us? Is that about right? - JoeMondo, on 06/17/2009, -2/+40Employees getting benefits they earned is tyranny?
- TheEggAndI, on 06/17/2009, -3/+40This is nothing like tyranny. Don't post here again.
- Solkre, on 06/17/2009, -2/+37♀♂♀
- Hetman, on 06/17/2009, -3/+36You would have an argument if Gay marriage was legal in America. That is not the case however. So there for there would be no legal way for them to recieve these benifits.
- beautifulbeast, on 06/17/2009, -7/+40I'm a Doctor who has to decide between his job and his beliefs...
- amoirae, on 06/17/2009, -4/+37So we get our right piece meal while you get them in a single lump.
Oh... and gay couples STILL don't have all the rights heterosexual couples have. - Rivetgeek, on 06/17/2009, -3/+36the same people that pay for married couples health insurance, *****.
- kierucom, on 06/17/2009, -1/+31Marriage is not 'only' a religious ceremony. Say you, an atheist, were to decide to wed. In your case you might go to a court office to obtain... wait for it... a MARRIAGE LICENSE. That's right; the same word is used to define both the religious ceremony AND the legal practice of a federally and state-recognized union!
Which is where the trouble lies. If you give a different name for 'gay marriage' than 'straight marriage' you are creating a separate-but-equal scenario in a country that is defined by its equal rights to all. That simply doesn't work. - meruru, on 06/17/2009, -4/+33I think you could avoid the backlash by not making it gay specific. Just say that benefits will be made available to 1 family member and the employee's children. I don't really care if you want to use it on your domestic partner, husband, wife, mother, brother, etc. It doesn't cost any more to insure someone's brother then it does their husband/wife. Besides Obama stated that he wants fewer uninsured people, though not a total solution, this would mean more people get insured.
- digitalcowboy99, on 06/17/2009, -1/+30As a gay person who has to file for "single" status, I pay for snotty kids to get educated with MY tax money. I'm partnered for two years now and we don't get a tax break, insurance break, etc. because we can't get "married". We've been propping up the "American Way" for years now since we're the ones with (generally) more disposable income.
- kierucom, on 06/17/2009, -3/+32If we could get married like you know... any other citizen in this country can, we wouldn't need silly memorandums and extra terminology to get the same benefits. People are just overcomplicating things because they want to protect 'the sanctity of marriage'.
- Hetman, on 06/17/2009, -1/+28Some religions would marry gays if it was legal. Do you think the government should violate the first amendment and stop these Churches from performing religious ceremonies?
- kierucom, on 06/17/2009, -0/+27My partner and I share renters insurance and health insurance; we had to sign a statement that we were in a committed, long-term relationship for over 1 year with no intent to end that relationship, and that further we shared in all of our living expenses and debt, and shared at least one common financial account.
I guess you COULD lie; if you could get someone to sign all that - but I think that if they found out you'd be liable for a nice fat lawsuit. - kierucom, on 06/17/2009, -3/+30Because 'separate but equal' totally worked out in the past; right?
- kierucom, on 06/17/2009, -2/+29Because they are trying to offer some of the benefits associated with marriage to those who cannot legally wed, but would want to?
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -5/+30@stompk291:
You know, I was going to type a real response, then I realized it is a complete waste of time and energy on dumb asses like you. - 1sammy, on 06/17/2009, -3/+28Should we roll back benefits for straight couples, then? Who should decide who gets benefits and who doesn't? I think that is the point of "equality".
Couldn't MLK have waited just a couple more years? I mean really, black people were discriminated against for so long, why the rush? - acknotSW, on 06/17/2009, -1/+25Only because there are still a lot of people out there that really do feel that way.
- kierucom, on 06/17/2009, -1/+24We are seeking the same benefits afforded any legal couple in this country; it's not our fault that some people seem to think 'marriage' can only be between a man and a woman.
- jpsoraire, on 06/17/2009, -4/+26So now if you are a Federal employee, The Constitution of the United States of America protects you. The sad part is that if you are not.....you don't count. Speaking specifically about this matter, everyone must be equal. I once heard someone running for President last year that he was a fierce advocate of gay rights......if this is ferocity, I would like to see much more.
- JoeMondo, on 06/17/2009, -1/+23@GeorgeStone2 - civil marriage is not religious.
And you should take note: there are religious gay weddings. - Rivetgeek, on 06/17/2009, -1/+23Well if we allow gays to get married then people will marry dogs! they said so on hannity!
- waaaahhh, on 06/17/2009, -0/+21a bit defensive, eh?
- JoeMondo, on 06/17/2009, -3/+23Employees earn benefits.
- jeffwmartin, on 06/17/2009, -1/+21No shininia, the constitution does not grant any rights, it protects them. You have those rights inherently, they cannot be granted or revoked, only protected or infringed.
- hatdrop, on 06/17/2009, -2/+22http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AzLrn5JVIo
please watch this if you are burying this person - seantubridy, on 06/17/2009, -5/+25You have to be a troll. No one can be this stupid and insensitive. Oh, wait. Half of America is. I forgot.
- kinseyincanada, on 06/17/2009, -4/+24There are just gay, its not a big deal. They are exactly like you ad me ad everyone else i the world. This whole gay marriage debate is *****. Just let them get married it has absolutely o affect o you. We have had it legal since 2003 in canada ad it has done nothig but good
- tonberryqueen, on 06/17/2009, -1/+21Yes, a US president amending federal benefit policy is tyranny.
I'm in Boston, I'd better go dump some tea in the harbor.
Or maybe some beneficiary paperwork, to make it fit the situation better. -
