- Dhalsim007, on 07/07/2008, -20/+59In related news ... John McCain announced he'll be giving his acceptance speech at the early-bird special at the local Old Country Buffet. (j/k)
Maybe McCain can get the MetroDome in Minneapolis? It'll be tough to top Obama's concert-like atmosphere. The only thing the GOP can hope for is that the DMB crowd shows up and spoils the imagery. - PhoenixAvatar2, on 07/07/2008, -10/+32Are people seriously getting worked up over this? He's changing the location of his acceptance speech, that's it. I think it's a pretty cool move and it will definitely help his election chances to be giving a speech that big to so many people live.
If you want to try and convince people to not vote for him, use issues that really matter and not ones that will just get you laughed at. - rb329503, on 07/08/2008, -3/+20Matt Burns, communications director of the Republican National Convention, responded: "Not surprisingly, Senator Obama and his fellow Democrats are more focused on stagecraft and theatrics than providing real solutions to the challenges facing our nation. A change of venue for a political speech isn’t the kind of change the American people deserve or expect."
Just because they make a change in venue doesn't mean there more focused on the shenanigans, what an ass. - inactive, on 07/08/2008, -12/+28I wonder if he'll tell everyone how he is supporting the Bush administrations spying efforts by supporting FISA and taking your rights away from you.
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -13/+26It strikes me that the most vocal Obama supporters do not know his position on
1) the PATRIOT act
2) Iraq
3) AIPAC
4) FISA
5) Impeachment and prosecution of Bush, Cheney, Rice, etc
Obama is not a liberal, and is certainly not a leftist. He's just another right-wing Democrat that will do as told by AIPAC and the corporations. Think Pelosi, Reed, that whole useless crowd. - inactive, on 07/08/2008, -6/+17My fellow Americans, YOU ARE THE CHANGE, not Obama.
- MrTito, on 07/08/2008, -0/+10All your previous comments are the same rap trying to pin Obama as a flip-flopper and "how can anyone vote for him?" Kinda like the guy above you. You McCain guys really should coordinate your efforts better. Saturation of a single message makes your trolling obvious.
And if you truly are an Obama supporter, the FISA bill does not block CRIMINAL cases against the telcos, so just wait. And if you can't wait, then it's a shame that you'd flip-flop in your support over a single issue. That you would toss your vote to McCain, or at the least become passive, and allow the continuation of a war that is draining our lives and economy is idiotic at best. There's more on the table than FISA. Yeah, it sucks right now. But I'm not throwing the baby out with the bath water. - inactive, on 07/08/2008, -4/+14Yes, Yes, Yes. I'm all for Obama he's got my vote. Great. Gonna do some volunteer work, yup. I'm on the bus. HOWEVER, yes, I really, really need to start seeing some of his rhetoric at work: a bold Iraq policy, bold defense of our Constitution (Hello 4th Ammendment?) ...and so far, not a word on our border issues. Obama's our guy, however, he seems to be securing his wiggle room on some issues and looking more and more like your same old politician.
I give him lots of credit, however, bottom line he is a (shrewd) politician. - metamorfoza, on 07/08/2008, -4/+13Oh, c'mon. American election = popularity contest. Has been like that always, it is like that now.
Who else in the right f'king mind and logic elects an Actor as a governor.
or Bush.
twice.
america(ns) ***** yeah. - chambana, on 07/08/2008, -12/+21Gosh, I wouldn't want to be the act that follows that. Oh, poor McCain.
- BrownManUPS, on 07/07/2008, -27/+36Every single speech I've been to is like a sold out rock concert. It's really odd but neat. Kinda scary how I actually like a politician.
- tidu, on 07/08/2008, -1/+9Education > NASA. sorry, but it's true.
- mabs0, on 07/08/2008, -5/+13JFK and Churchill gave good speeches too, you know?
- iharbinger, on 07/08/2008, -9/+17there are so many conservatives on digg, a comment like this is suiside, Us remaining lefties gotta stand together!
- MrTito, on 07/08/2008, -12/+20God I love seeing all these McCain/conservative talking points in the comments denouncing Obama. Why don't you guys tell us something good about your candidate?
*crickets*
Anyone....?
*tumbleweed* - gofalcons, on 07/08/2008, -9/+16The honeymoon phase is coming to an end, enjoy the blank slate Obama while you still have him. Soon enough you'll realize he's no different than the other republicrats. The only hope for real change in America could only come after the two party system was destroyed.
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -8/+15Seriously, it's just vapid cheerleading. "Change! Change! Change!" It sounds like a bunch of panhandlers. Obama, now that he's milked all the hopeful grandmas and teenagers and young couples out of their $20 or $30, must answer to his masters who will be paying $10,000 a plate at the fundraisers. Guess what? People who have $10,000 to pay at a fundraiser don't give a ***** about people who scrape up $20 or $30 for a candidate.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 07/07/2008, -4/+11Are you sure people are excited for the right reasons? Are you sure it isn't some sort of...crush?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Got_a_Crush..._on_O ... - JSolo, on 07/08/2008, -15/+22I hope he takes a moment to announce that he is for telecom immunity and supports Bush and McCain in their assertion that spying on Americans is okay.
- tenaciousdino, on 07/08/2008, -4/+10O RLY? 75,000 people showed up just to see the Decemeberists? They might want to fire their tour manager then, since they typically play 1,000 - 2000 seat venues.
- MrTito, on 07/08/2008, -2/+8Uh, I don't know what I said that makes me an apologist. Nor does the amount of money you give equal your level of support. I mean, *****. That kind of thinking goes right to what is wrong with the fundamentals of the campaign finance system. "I gave more money, therefore I am more special." Anyhow, to answer your question, I've given $110 in two donations. One donation of $35 before my state's primary in February, and $75 after he wrapped up the nomination in early June. Sorry that it's not "hundreds" but it's what I can reasonably afford. Any more questions?
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -2/+8When Obama is speaking about change.... he's referring to the change in your pocket and his intent to extract it.
- masterm1nd, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7Yeah, and it also takes place in Denmark. And the killers and bjork probably scared many away. Apples to oranges my friend. I don't think he's implying no one came to see Obama and everyone came to see the band. Obviously many did go to see the band, and the media did conveniently forget to mention it.
- inactive, on 07/07/2008, -36/+42All style. No substance.
- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -6/+12Exactly!
Obama wants to give my money to churches!
***** that.
I can not believe I gave this guy money in the first place. If Obama wants to give money to people who promote mysticism, then he needs to revoke their tax exempt status. - sovereign3, on 07/08/2008, -8/+13Christianptriot:
The event will open to anyone. In fact, the tickets are even free. How is that exclusive? - CamperBob, on 07/08/2008, -10/+15You know who else held rallies that looked more like rock concerts?
- SpinningHead, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5Oh, yes. McCain has some brilliant economic ideas to get us out of the current mess. I see on his web page that corporate tax breaks cure what ails us. What a novel idea. Hes clearly much different from Bush.
You don't need help from the government? I assume you built all those roads you use to commute to work on.Since you clearly don't need your tax dollars back in your community, I'm sure theres some oil men who would gladly accept the handout. - Barackalypse, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6Rock star style? Oh, you mean he'll be lip syncing!
- nickymouse, on 07/08/2008, -2/+7You'll get my vote if you...
1. Don't raise my taxes... this includes new taxes or carbon taxes
2. Actually implement some type of sane energy policy
3. STOP EARMARKS... I hate how politicians will take a bill like, Money for starving widowed mothers, and then attach 100k here for a computer company that produces nothing, or 1m to build a park in their district, or 10m to throw a party. McCain tried to pass a bill to stop earmarks, but both dems and republicans voted against it... even Jesus... Sorry, I mean Obama. - SoulGrub, on 07/08/2008, -3/+8Agreed. Speeches are not something to celebrate. Winning elections are not something to celebrate. Celebrate when he actually does something great while in office.
- JSolo, on 07/08/2008, -14/+19I'm surprised Obama isn't going to give the speech at Verizon Headquarters. He's such good friends with the telcos now. Maybe they've been listening to his calls and have some dirt on him that he is afraid Americans will find out about?
- Blandyman, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6Maybe if our education gets better, we can have more people making decent money, paying more taxes (but less percentage of their salaries,) and the NASA program can get back on track with greater funds and without risking education.
Sorry, but even I, a space enthusiast, think delaying a NASA program for five years is better than leaving kids stupid. I mean, the chances of us finding a material that makes us smarter in those five wasted years are slim to... slim. - MrTito, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5I had a shread of respect for you when you started out talking policy. But, like McCain's chances of winning, that didn't last long. I don't buy into the doublespeak of "redistribution of wealth" (I guess that's what you meant, though you said distribution and that doesn't make much sense because wealth is already distributed, but I digress). You conclude by creating a false assumption of me (maybe even a strawman) by inadvertently saying that you're a hard working America not looking for a handout, as though I am not hard working and looking for a handout. I'm a 29 year old unmarried white guy with no kids who works his ass off 50 hours a week, five days a week. And yet, I support Obama. I know you probably can't grasp that since you have to categorize and stereotype things so your world view make sense, but it is what it is.
As far as Supreme Court justices who rape the Constitution, they've already been doing that. It started back in 2000 when they handed the presidency to Bush. - inactive, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4I love how the presidential candidacy has turned into a popularity contest...
Since when is the president now a 'Rock-Star'???
I'm still amazed at how many people blindly support him just because others do. Actually, the scary thing is how many people absolutely 100% believe he will deliver on everything he has promised. People honestly think that Barrack Obama will fix every single problem in America the second he is sworn in, and then will personally come to the house of each and every American and hand them a stack of hundreds. Kids, it aint gonna happen.
Remember the 3rd grade? Student class president? When Johnny swore he would take away school on friday and have free pizza and candy as soon as he was leading the class? No more test and you could watch movies all day long? Yeah, that Johnny. Remember how all of his promises came true??? ... This isn't the 3rd grade folks. Wake up and use your brains for once. - TexasShiv, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4What a true American... selling your vote. Sweet, you're really sticking it to the man!
Ass. - Kral, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Those awful liberals, always giving us rights. Who do they think they are?
- gofalcons, on 07/08/2008, -1/+5My god I'm so tired of people calling other people sheep. Do you live in a society with rules and laws? Do you wear mass produced clothing? Do you buy mass marketed products? Do you watch television, movies, play video games? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then you are a "sheep" just like the rest of us. There is no such thing as an independent thinker, so stop being a pompous ***** and just state your ideas, rather than act like you're somehow more "enlightened" than the rest of us.
- nickymouse, on 07/08/2008, -1/+5That's a hate crime. j/k
- dinot, on 07/07/2008, -16/+20The 2007 Roskilde Festival drew 80,000 people from 180 bands (among them The Who, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, Björk & Arctic Monkeys).
If you think 75,000 people will show up just to see ONE Pitchforkmedia.com-lovin indie-rock band called "The Decemberists", you need to pull your head out of McCain's shriveled ass and STFU. - JSolo, on 07/08/2008, -9/+13I'm going to have to agree with you whole heartedly on this one. He went from a candidate for change to a candidate towing the Republican party line.
He is turning out to be another typical politician. - artofficial, on 07/08/2008, -9/+13Hitler...
- Narrwald, on 07/08/2008, -2/+6Suiside indeed...
- voxlisa999, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Obama didn't vote for The Patriot Act. That was signed into law on 10-26-01- just 45 days after 9/11. He had nothing to do with that garbage!
- MrTito, on 07/08/2008, -4/+8I doubt McCain will try to counter Obama's move here. They'd have to pay people to fill out even half of Obama's numbers.
- samyoungguitar, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3That doesn't make them rockstars. Rockstars aren't people who are just popular, they're people who don't give a *****. They rock, they party, they rip your ***** face off, they definitely don't wear suits, and they like to ***** as many chicks at one time as possible. Until Barack shows me some of that, he's no rockstar.. but I will vote for him.
- goleopards1, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Change, Hope, Future, I'm not Bush!
There, we did it. - brad3378, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5I can't say I didn't try to get the Obamabots to read about their candidate's flawed platform
http://digg.com/political_opinion/Obama_s_Blueprin ...
I swear I must have pasted this link in 50 different stories, but I couldn't even promote it beyond 300 diggs.
The truth is that Obama supporters just don't care enough to spend a few minutes reading. - dejay181, on 07/08/2008, -4/+7im a indie politically...well we..er..you sure are putting some high expectations on this guy, man this guy is gonna save the world with all this hope floating around...unfortunately he is only one part of the machine and well...the other parts arent really working that well so the way im seeing it is that we are putting this man on a big ol pedestal and when he cant, wont deliver its gonna hurt a lot of feelings. cant wait to see it all unfold though.we..er..you keep falling for this every four years.
- Hawk2007, on 07/08/2008, -5/+8such a simple statement, but so true.
