80% of our current national debt happened under Republican presidents. And Obama has given middle class Americans the largest tax cut in history. - inactive, on 04/29/2009, -43/+141There were Tea Parties? I remember reading something about a few people showing up, but it was fewer people NATIONWIDE than celebrated Barack's victory in Chicago, right?
- novenator, on 04/29/2009, -31/+126The true patriots have been attacked by the right wing for decades. Freedom is patriotic, the right wing gave us domestic espionage.
Human rights are patriotic, the right wing gave us torture.
Honesty is patriotic, the right wing gave us lies to justify invading Iraq.
The rule of law is patriotic, the right wing destroyed habeas corpus.
etc etc etc - BohicaTwentyTwo, on 04/29/2009, -36/+128First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

/Sanctimonious bull that we've been putting up with for about 8 years - freedomjoe, on 04/29/2009, -28/+102correct:-) They were also corporate sponsored and advertised -- nothing says "grassroots" like having your white boss pay you 20 dollars to hold a sign up you can't read.
- BillE3, on 04/29/2009, -102/+164The mobilization of resources against so-called right-wing extremism betrays the intent and agenda all along. Defaming the patriotic speaks to the not-so-patriotic who loathe this country on mistaken notions that the paternalistic government is the country: the government is servant; we are the nation. We have the legal authority to object without suffering retaliation. Still, the harassment continues.
- inactive, on 04/29/2009, -31/+83The next "Tea Parties" are on the 4th of July. How convenient!
I also organized parties to celebrate my wisdom and good looks. They were on December 31 of last year. Can you believe how many people I got to turn out, drink champagne, and cheer my good fortune at midnight?!! - inactive, on 04/29/2009, -32/+79We'll be laughing at the Tea Baggers for a long, long time.

- temujin1234, on 04/30/2009, -23/+67There are specific exceptions, but in general conservatives have been against big government during Clinton, for it during Bush, and against it again now that a Democrat is president. I support smaller government myself, but unfortunately the tea party protests are based on societal divisions and emotionalism rather than ideas.
- atomheartmother, on 04/29/2009, -81/+120"80% of our current national debt happened under Republican presidents."
So hey, why not quadruple it, right?
"Obama has given middle class Americans the largest tax cut in history."
In your lexicon, a tax cut includes tens of billions of dollars in government handouts that are disguised by the phrase "tax credit." And just because the Obama Administration calls something a tax cut, doesn’t make it so. More than a third of Obama’s “Making Work Pay” tax plan goes to people who do not pay income taxes. That makes it a welfare income redistribution plan, not a tax cut. - lordmike, on 04/30/2009, -15/+50Where were you when right wingers were accusing people of treason for having misgivings about the Iraq War? Oh, I remember, you were one of the ones shouting "traitor!"
- ProfBagelwood, on 04/30/2009, -14/+49So when you disagree with others and speak up, it's an "objection." But when others respond by disagreeing with what you say, it's "harassment." How lovely.
- thestranger, on 04/30/2009, -15/+50Part of the quadrupling is the fact that Bush did not put Iraq and Afghanistan on the Budget and Obama has, so your statement is not correct.
- freedomjoe, on 04/29/2009, -17/+49rbii, what are you talking about? Do you mean you didn't see the interview with the immigrants who could barely speak English, who pointed out their boss who paid them to hold up the tea bagging signs? You should get out more.
- freedomjoe, on 04/29/2009, -12/+44TCS, Did you go to any of the Iraq War protests? Did you seen the freeway signs? Just wondering what corporation and major media outlet sponsored those events....
links please. - FredFredrickson, on 04/30/2009, -16/+47You can't give Bush a pass in increasing our deficits, and then get mad at Obama for "making it worse." That's utter *****.
I guess I've come to expect this kind of two-faced crap from you and your ilk, rbiii / flip2trip. Conservatives are kings of being okay with the ***** their leaders do, but getting mad over the same ***** when it comes from the other side of the aisle. - drjekelmrhyde, on 04/30/2009, -26/+55Butt hurt GOP FTW

- tacobueno, on 04/30/2009, -13/+40"The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere." --Thomas Jefferson to Abigail Adams, 1787.
- Pilot85, on 04/30/2009, -10/+37What harassment? People are disagreeing with or mocking you (in an infantile fashion, to be sure). That isn't harassment, it's the normal state of national discourse. Stop being so melodramatic. Your rights have not been infringed upon in this instance.
- herojon, on 04/30/2009, -13/+39Can't blame a man who doesn't like getting T-Bagged
- lorddazzer, on 04/30/2009, -20/+45So wait, if he keeps quiet then he's a inexperienced coward who doesn't confront the issues.
If he confronts his critics then suddenly he's a fascist dictator who will crush and bury all who stand in the path of his will.
This has to be the greatest US sitcom I've seen in awhile. Keep it coming, chaps, while you're still being labeled as the US in Atlas. - kward711, on 04/29/2009, -10/+35the Alex Jones deception
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0ohpGTxqSQ - bphm42, on 04/30/2009, -16/+40Where were the "tea parties" when the GOP was ranking up the bills? Where were the protest when civil liberties were taken away through wire tapping and surveillance? Where was the outrage against the approved use of torture? Why did it that take 8 years for these "true" conservatives to speak up? People are mad and they are not listening to reason. For once, we have a president who have the people's interest at heart and is devoted to helping fix America and these prostestor want nothing more than pure anarchy
- matrixbandit, on 04/30/2009, -8/+32Yes, otherwise known as "moderating for intelligence", it's a practice by which ridiculous, ignorant, and uselessly inflammatory comments are buried so that they don't get in the way of the people who are NOT too busy pouting to have a functional conversation. It's just a shame that Fox news can't have every statement THEY air filtered through such a moderating system; at the very least it would make them a lot quieter.
- paulvq, on 04/30/2009, -13/+37Obama voted in favor of FISA and extending the Patriot Act, so stop playing the blame game.
- inactive, on 04/30/2009, -53/+76I am so sick of hearing these insane right wingers claim that they are moderates or normal Americans, you're not. Your movement is tiny, and nobody really cares.
- Aadain, on 04/30/2009, -16/+39You're an idiot. Those tea parties were 90% Obama bashing parties, not government spending protests. If you think otherwise, your an idiot.
- scottknick, on 04/30/2009, -4/+27And don't forget Stephen Colbert's major protest movement, which calls for people to dress in costumes and go from door to door asking for candy on the evening of October 31. I wonder if he'll be able to get anybody to do it?
- whatthefu, on 04/30/2009, -21/+43Man, I was watching Neil Cavuto talk about Obama's remarks today. Do you know who he had on to complain about them? Dick Armey. The same Dick Armey who helped to engineer the Tea Party protests. This isn't some big conspiracy. They are really manufacturing outrage.
- charlie6969, on 04/30/2009, -5/+27oh, SNAP!
- temujin1234, on 04/30/2009, -5/+27I didn't view jawagas' post, but I think this based on observations of people during the last couple of administrations. While Clinton was in office, Republicans threatened to shut down Congress if a balanced budget wasn't passed. Our intervention in the Kosovo war was criticized, expressing caution about our role as international police and nation builders. With Bush in office, a greater deficit appeared every year. Critics of the expansion of government powers and the invasion of Iraq were met with hostility from conservatives and called unpatriotic. State secrets were considered sacred and whistle-blowers demonized. etc, etc.
The new rise in anti government sentiment correlates strongly to Obama's election, with Tea Parties and the more extreme Oath Keeper rallies appearing only 4 months into his administration. Since government has been expanding for years, the protests seem to be based on the election of a Democrat (and for some, black) president. If history is an accurate reference, Obama will also start or assist in a new war, and the Republicans will take a dovish stance. - inactive, on 04/30/2009, -35/+57I'll never understand how we, as Americans, downplay/insult the "Tea Bag Protests". I don't care if you think Satan and/or Fox News promoted them. Those were protesting high taxes and big govenrment. Thats something everyone should agree on no matter your political views. Government can't get anything right, WE ALL KNOW THIS, and our tax money is wasted constantly, tighten the strings. We spend OUR money on things that interest US.
- lordmike, on 04/30/2009, -6/+27Oh, I guess that's why the GOP officially endorsed them...
- flossdaily, on 04/30/2009, -5/+25Obama: thin skinned?
What show have you been watching? Love him or hate him, that dude is cool under pressure, and he's had a history of taking personal attacks in stride.
Seriously, it's like your not even trying to make rational arguments anymore. - Pilot85, on 04/30/2009, -4/+24Seems like some lively debate is occuring, actually. Well, as in depth as it ever gets here on Digg. There are digg and bury buttons. If you want to bitch about people using them, don't ever touch one again. Otherwise, deal with it.
- scottknick, on 04/30/2009, -4/+24Frankly, I think access to Presidential press conferences should be limited to news organizations.
- anstice85, on 04/29/2009, -16/+34Because FreedomWorks has been pure astroturf since it was formed - it was the result of two terrible front groups that merged. Where was the outrage while Citibank and GE pocketed their billions? There wasn't any because GE is a huge donor to FreedomWorks. This says it best:
"Instead, FreedomWorks and its clients want to ensure more of the national wealth is at their disposal — which for them means more deregulation, lower taxes for the rich, fewer government programs for distressed homeowners and no pricey national health insurance.
The suckers in the Tea Party movement have no idea that while their anger is genuine, they're doing the king's bidding, not their own." - ManUnitdFan, on 04/30/2009, -6/+23fascism, n. - a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.
Please, please don't toss "fascism" around to describe American political leaders - either Bush or Obama. It's such a grossly inappropriate use of the term. - Firstdaughter, on 04/29/2009, -9/+26Yep Homer, exactly! It's kinda like us trying to converse with the nutters in this thread...
- gfryesc, on 04/30/2009, -26/+42ah yes, this is the age of bipartisanship and unity. truly, change has come to washington.
- novenator, on 04/30/2009, -19/+35Aadyss, so you don't believe in freedom, justice, honesty, or human rights? Or are you delusional enough to believe that the right wing respected ANY of those things during the bush regime?
- CosmicSurfer, on 04/30/2009, -10/+26Just love the "socialist", "fascist", "communist" labels...Feels like a Nixonian time warp....Every person the the left of right was a commie, pinko...sympathizer....
Now we are supporters of the socialist communist fascist Obama if we don't see Rush or Hannity or O'Reilly as the soothsayers of the 21st Century or don't believe that the economy was the democrats doing.....
Ignorance mixed with pious outrage is such a colorful thing to watch when it implodes...it always starts with That claim of the lone patriot standing in the midst of a storm and having to single handedly protect the country from us unpatriotic filth... ....Oh the horror, the horror,.... - inactive, on 04/30/2009, -13/+29We The People DO NOT trust the government!

They were protesting the stupidity of BOTH parties. GOT IT???? - faskippy, on 04/30/2009, -6/+19It amazes me to no end to see people on here saying the "teabag party", etc. are new. There have been groups up in arms and protesting for years now, yes, even when Bush was ***** up. I guess the fact that Bush's approval rating dropped to near 20% doesn't give some people a clue. Bush lost a hell of a lot of republican support over his antics. Hell, Ron Paul has been fighting this ***** all along, and look how many people wanted him in office, instead of McCain.
When the tea parties started, a few years ago, it was a grassroots movement by concerned citizens about all fiscal evils of the government, and their irresponsibility. This included the TRUE deficit, as Iraq spending was not being counted, and so people who didn't pay attention were mislead. And as far as the tea parties being attended by right wingers, let me tell you, there may have been a large percentage of republicans there, but there were also democrats, and libertarians, and they don't slam just democrats, and root for all republicans. Need I remind you of the videos of the Republican speaker who got booed 'almost' off the stage? These people are tired of BOTH parties. What good would it do to wrangle in the bad habits and crimes of one party, and not the other?
In Europe, people are to the point of kidnapping bank CEO's, (I think 7 so far) taking to the streets, and damn near rioting, and their authorities have responded by seizing banks assets, investigating fraud, etc. Those people seem to be able to get together and focus their attention on the problem. Do you think their govts. might be a wee bit scared to have them turn on them? Now I'm not advocating kidnapping anyone, or anything like that. What I'm saying is that so many, many people are so blind to their own party's complicity in crime, that they will bitch and complain that someone is actually trying to right a wrong, ON EVERYONE'S BEHALF. For our Country. I don't know, it's kinda like, they think it's o.k. for the government and their buddies to do these things, as long as it's THEIR party. People who felt that way about Bush, even after his ***** began used to piss me right the ***** off, so I know how you feel. But don't forget about that 20% approval rating. But ***** up is ***** up, it is what it is. And just cause you like the guy, don't mean he aint *****' up. Hell, we all probably have a friend or two like that.
Both parties have ***** up. But bitching about the guy that's gone (although he should be prosecuted) doesn't change the fact that the new guy is doing him one better. - IIAmusedII, on 04/30/2009, -15/+28Why do you hate America?
- inactive, on 04/29/2009, -19/+32Getting angry? Please don't shoot anyone, like others who believe in these things.
