- redtaboo, on 10/05/2008, -3/+128This actually scares me, if the Polls show Obama too far ahead some people may not think they need to vote.
No matter what the polls say in November make sure to vote, or things could go the wrong direction in a hurry.
Obama/Biden '08 - peace1970, on 10/05/2008, -7/+129And the numbers just keep going up....looking forward to having you as president, Mr. Obama!!
- cheesegypsy, on 10/05/2008, -6/+83The momentum continues to build!
- cmootoo, on 10/05/2008, -3/+68I don't think even the desperation smear attacks from McCain can turn this around. It may tighten but with the Obama camp playing offense it'll mitigate the GOPs efforts.
The weird thing is that Obama didn't do anything different. He responded better to the economic issues and let the McCain camp shoot themselves in the foot but he kept on message.
It really looks like the McCain campaign managers aren't on the same page with their candidate. - scheibs14, on 10/06/2008, -3/+57I live in Minneapolis. The support for Obama here is overwhelming. The amount of bumper stickers, yard signs, etc. for Obama far outnumber those for McCain. The other day I was driving around and saw two signs, one was a "Bake Sale for Obama" and one was a "Yard Sale for Obama" with all of their proceeds donated to the campaign. True grass roots at its finest.
- Jacksonian, on 10/05/2008, -3/+42This has to leave some in the McCain camp second guessing the selection of Sarah Palin as a running mate instead of Minn. Gov. Tim Pawlenty. As a former Minnesotan, I would guess that Pawlenty's inclusion on the ticket likely would have resulted in a much tighter race there and possibly even a McCain victory. Thank God McCain showed poor judgment in his choice-- a choice which also shows his poor judgment! Obama/Biden '08
- birdly, on 10/05/2008, -3/+37TRUE BLUE MINNESOTA!!
- ligyron, on 10/06/2008, -0/+31Not so fast, cowboy. Don't get cocky and forget to vote
- novenator, on 10/06/2008, -2/+30Its like I've been saying for months, Minnesota will NOT vote republican in this election. Look for Norm Coleman to lose his senate seat as well as well.
by the way DO NOT CLICK the link above from n3wton, its a porn virus - Ajajadude, on 10/06/2008, -1/+23Make sure it carries over to votes!
- eyepennies, on 10/06/2008, -3/+24According to www.fivethirtyeight.com there is a 17% chance that McCain will win this election. 27.64% chance Obama wins in a landslide.
- Pinkertinkle, on 10/06/2008, -2/+21McCain might as well pull out of Minn too, focus his resources on Arizona.
- charm803, on 10/06/2008, -0/+20McCain didn't even tell PALIN they were pulling out of Michigan. She claims she read it in the paper (riiiiiight.)
So if he's not communicating with his VP, no doubt that he doesn't communicate with his own staff.
Message to McCain-
People aren't mind readers! Tool! - zephyear, on 10/05/2008, -2/+20the gap is way too big, he's probably leading by +6 to +9, but still, encouraging
- birdly, on 10/05/2008, -0/+18As a current Minnesotan, I feel that Pawlenty's "no new taxes" pennypinching was a factor in the 35W bridge collapse, and I'm not the only one here who suspects that. Pawlenty won the governor's race by a razor-thin margin over a bad DFL candidate due to a third-party candidate.
I don't think Pawlenty would change Minnesota from Obama to McCain, but after seeing Palin perform over the last month, he would certainly have been a better choice. Gobama! - armakaryk, on 10/06/2008, -0/+18indeed, Thats how nixon's head attached to a giant killbot got elected.
- novenator, on 10/06/2008, -1/+19just like the GOP to refute facts and scientific polling. Face the truth, mccain and the republicans are going to lose this election BIG.
- xac00fm, on 10/06/2008, -4/+19Terrorists, Secessionists, Sarah Palin and Guilt by Association
Governor, you have a "close association" with a known former member of a radical, right-wing, well-armed and well-funded political party whose founder damned the United States as virulently as Reverend Wright did. - magus_melchior, on 10/06/2008, -2/+16Keep the sights on the prize: 270+ electors for Obama.
But don't get complacent! There's still more than 2 weeks to go, and anything can happen; the Republicans have already shown that they are not above deceit or cheating. - SethEllis, on 10/06/2008, -0/+14One must acknowledge that even before Palin was chosen that McCain was in a rough spot. Obama always had the advantage in electoral votes.
McCain's problems started the day it was clear that he would be the Republican nominee. The base was never behind him, and even after being energized by Palin it simply wasn't enough. I don't think that Tim Pawlenty would have changed things one bit. If McCain looses I think many will claim that his choice of Palin was what killed him. I would argue however, that he never stood a chance of winning. Republicans simply chose the man wrong to be their nominee. - Dustin00, on 10/06/2008, -0/+13He's just steadily chipping away at McCain, just like he did with Hillary.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 10/06/2008, -2/+15Yes, everyone MUST vote. Obama may need to win by real 5-10% in some jurisdictions to actually win, due to voter machine fraud (1-2% skewed to the GOP) and the anticipation of an unspoken racial bias that doesn't show up when people are polled (as much as 7%), but might show up when they are alone in the voting booth.
Don't forget that the GOP has stolen the last two Presidential elections, one way or the other. Don't let them get away with it this time. - doublefelix, on 10/06/2008, -0/+12Have you ever read anything beyond a bumper sticker? You're going to vote yourself right out of that single-wide buddy.
- fugazied, on 10/06/2008, -0/+12Speaking as someone living outside of the US, I can assure you the rest of the world is pretty glad too. I remember when people in our country used to talk about the US in a good light. After the wars, torture, christian fundamentalism, disregard of the environment, cia interference in other countries, propping up dictators like Chavez and Hussein (both of whom turned against the US later), the world opinion of the US was sliding further down. Obama can fix that.
- HartgE46, on 10/06/2008, -4/+14phew, i don't have to move after all.
- XxLindyxX, on 10/06/2008, -0/+11I live in Minnesota too, but you have to realize that Minneapolis is far more liberal than the rest of the state. I was on a hunting trip out in western MN this weekend and McCain signs outnumbered Obama 10 to 1. Just saying your sample of one city (albeit the largest in the state) doesn't represent the entire state. I agree that Obama will win the state, but to say McCain is far outnumbered is misleading... Explore your state and the people a little more...
- p9s50W5k4GUD2c6, on 10/06/2008, -1/+11But it's likely to get a bit rocky over the next 2-3 weeks.
Give 'em hell, Barach! - CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -0/+9Report and block him guys.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+10Same here, the yard signs for Obama all over northeast Minneapolis probably beat the ones for McCain like ten to one or something..
Minnesota is reliably blue, Obama will win big here. McCain couldn't even take the state in the primaries. - Lewie, on 10/06/2008, -0/+9"If you like being unemployed, like inflation, want your tax dollars going to the rich instead of your own community, and like being spied on by the government then vote for a republican or move to a fascist country."
*Fixed it for ya. - sweetbwaoy, on 10/06/2008, -1/+10I went to the gallup site and it has Obama with a 7 point lead over McCain.
- birdly, on 10/06/2008, -0/+9Have you been paying attention at all?
- DannoSpeaks, on 10/06/2008, -0/+9Less freedoms? Bush jr, presided over the biggest increase of government, the largest federal deficit and some of the most important losses of freedom in this countries history! VP not an executive? BS! Torture is a moral and legal alternative? BS! It is legal to spy on Americans without a warrant? WTF?
Less freedoms than bush? I don't know if that is possible. - hiriumi, on 10/06/2008, -4/+11I see much more Obama signs here in Seattle. It's no surprise, but it's good to see.
- c010rb1indusa, on 10/06/2008, -1/+9The war in Iraq, alternative energy development, overhaul of the EPA and get rid of the bureaucratic partisanship, more taxes for the wealthy, closing cooperate loopholes, restoring America's reputation...need i say more
- metaliq, on 10/06/2008, -2/+9In the cities here, you rarely see a McCain sign.
But when you travel into any suburb, it becomes about even, if not tipped more towards McCain.
Still don't quite understand it, especially since they're not all rich suburbs. - AZRoboto, on 10/06/2008, -0/+8Bill Clinton sure did turn this into North Virgi...er, I mean Communist Country
It's a good thing George Bush turned this country back on the right track. /s - fugazied, on 10/06/2008, -0/+8Well you are kinda right, there is a stronger liberal and independent presence on Digg. Liberals/Independents tend to be highly educated and young. Since Digg is a site that mainly (well used to) revolve around technology and news it attracted a young intelligent crowd, mostly consisting of computer scientists. Sure the demographic has changed slightly, but it's still mainly young smart people and we mostly vote to the left side of the political spectrum. If you want to see a social networking site with a more conservative biast, go somewhere with mainly old people, rich people or christian fundamentalists.

- sulthernao, on 10/06/2008, -1/+9What poll are you looking at? McCain is down 7 nationally in the Gallup poll, though popular vote doesn't matter (see 2000). Unless you were being sarcastic...?
- DocOctavius, on 10/06/2008, -0/+7lol poled
Why do McCain supporters always spell ***** wrong? - AZRoboto, on 10/06/2008, -1/+8I live in a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona.
Actually, I can be a little more specific. I live in a community called Estrella Mountain Ranch. It was founded by Charles Keating, as a part of the Keating Five scandal. Needless to say, there are plenty of McCain supporters here. My dad hates Sarah Palin, but he "has to vote Republican" because it'll get another Republican in office... My neighbors have McCain/Palin signs in their front yards.
But drive across town to Tempe and ASU, it's a different picture. - magus_melchior, on 10/06/2008, -1/+8@poprocksandsoda: Rejecting anything except that which supports your position is called "cherry-picking". It's also an indication of delusion and fantasy, as is your dismissive tone and arrogance.
- kanabiis, on 10/06/2008, -2/+9I love this capital gains tax fear mongering... As if you, or anyone you know, or have ever known is living off the money they are making, or recently not making in the stock market... but hey, its a tax, hes gonna raise it.. the sky is falling.
Its guys like you that drive around town in your Ford Pinto with a huge Bush/Cheney McCain/Palin sticker in the window... poor as ***** getting ass ***** by the Republicans daily, but hey, don't ***** on the rich people, you might be rich someday too!!!!! Bet you have a huge McCain/Palin sign infront of your double wide too
But hey, lets all stop paying taxes.... then when the roads fall apart, the policemen and firemen you call when bad ***** happens dont respond, bridges collapse, public works cease to be done, you can be damn proud to be a Republican who hates taxes.
Seriously... use you head for something more then to keep your ***** ears apart. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+7That's very true, one community is not indicative of the entire state.
- br0ck, on 10/06/2008, -0/+7I agree with your sentiment, but Bush was actually polling higher than his rivals during the entire last month of each of the last two elections:

http://media.gallup.com/ELECTION2004/electionHisto ... - Atsumori, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7I'm from St. Paul and I see similar things. Its' great to see such a strong support in my state, even though we don't always vote blue.
- seantubridy, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6Absolutely true. You leave the cities and within 20 miles it's all McCain signs and pro-life billboards. But that's pretty typical of rural vs. urban areas in most states.
- charm803, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7Oh *****, I learned myself how to use that gosh darnit report button.
- MisteryMeat, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7Can you name a Bush policy that McCain/Palin would reverse? After all, the mavericky goodness they will bring to D.C. is a big game changer.
I don't know about specific policies that would be reversed, but the policies he is proposing are obviously very different from what Bush has implemented. -
