- JenniferInMO, on 03/24/2009, -39/+217This may sound small to most people, but it is a clear commitment to transparency. It pulls the very firm old way of doing business in Washington right to the forefront, online for all to see. I hope members of Congress adopt this same policy (and abide by it).
- UpstateNYDemo, on 03/24/2009, -19/+152What is sad to me is that we are so surprised to have a president lead by example. This should be expected behavior of our leaders and yet it is such a rare quality that it needs to be pointed out.
I agree with JenniferInMO that hopefully Congress will adopt this same policy. - Firstdaughter, on 03/24/2009, -21/+99After eight long years it is so nice to have a president like this! He does what he says and then he doesn't say what he does. Bush spent more time cheerleading rather than actually leading. For instance, how long did Bush deny that their was a Recession??
- novenator, on 03/24/2009, -20/+90simply put: awesome.
- kukyona, on 03/24/2009, -14/+82Good news, I hope he carries it forward beyond just items regarding "Recovery Act" projects.
- Alheithinn, on 03/24/2009, -10/+76What amazes me is that people can actually complain about this. I saw an article in the local paper discussing these rules and the article didn't exactly condemn the policies but at best, it was lukewarm. And I was thinking, how can you find fault with anything that limits lobbyist access to power? Sure, groups that one segment of the population or another see as positive are stifled too but why not? This is supposed to be "of the people, by the people, for the people." It's not a government for big business tycoons and it's not a government for lobbyists. They've all forgotten that, I think.
- sugarazor, on 03/24/2009, -14/+56A positive Obama article? Cue the Neocons in 3... 2...
- Foot56, on 03/24/2009, -12/+463....2.....1..... but but hes a socialist, and a Muslim!
/s - mickeylaspalmas, on 03/24/2009, -0/+33i find he exhibits very few qualities of being clam, myself. what with the endoskeleton and all.
- mrsteveman1, on 03/24/2009, -10/+37"The Obama administration is considering asking Congress to give the Treasury secretary unprecedented powers to initiate the seizure of non-bank financial companies, such as large insurers, investment firms and hedge funds, whose collapse would damage the broader economy, according to an administration document. "
Your own link. Stop trying to scare the ***** out of people, theres a big difference going on there to what you are trying to claim. - meninostongue, on 03/24/2009, -8/+34Then complain about that one there, and give your opinion on this one here. It is possible to like one thing he does while disliking another.
- Cannonballkid, on 03/24/2009, -0/+25Maybe becasue most of the comments are unfounded? Ever hear the saying never engage a clown? What kind of discussion will come from me commenting to someone calling him King Hussein or a socialist or any of the other monikers these neo-cons use?
- LonelyTylenoL, on 03/24/2009, -10/+35It's nice to know we elected a president who thinks with his head.
- Lomstradamus, on 03/24/2009, -3/+26what's he doing wrong? or are you just a whiner?
- jeremyduffy, on 03/24/2009, -3/+23If DC corruption were a three legged stool, Lobbyists would be one of those legs. You go Obama.
- SQLserver, on 03/24/2009, -15/+33Now this is change we can believe in.
- Foot56, on 03/24/2009, -2/+20Do you understand the experience of William Lynn; have you ever read his book Toward a More Effective Defense? He also sold all of his Raytheon stock and even McCain backed his nomination including the 93-4 vote on his confirmation. I will be happy to debate why I think the two people who were once lobbyists are actually beneficial to the U.S.
- ironhide, on 03/24/2009, -1/+19Upset he stole your talking points?
- mikemx7f, on 03/24/2009, -3/+21I have kids!?!?
Why does no one tell me these things? - protogenxl, on 03/24/2009, -3/+21No one knows how to be Commander in Chief.
- JenniferInMO, on 03/24/2009, -9/+26I agree.
- ftx437, on 03/24/2009, -16/+33Where was the transparency on for the bill in the first place, no one even read it let alone let us read it.
- johnnyg113, on 03/24/2009, -6/+23For all those whining about the 3 promises he's broken, take a look:
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/
So, he's broken 3 but kept 20.
Concerning the lobbyists, it certainly does count as a broken promise. However, it's still a ton better than any past president. I'd rather the default be no lobbyists with exceptions then the default be as many lobbyists as they want.
The "5 days online before signing" promise didn't include emergencies, and whether or not if you believe the stimulus was an emergency, he was told that it needed to get out ASAP to restore confidence, so was treated as such. So, you might ask, why does politifact have it as a broken promise?
"But the first bill Obama signed into law as president — the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act — got no such vetting."
Hardly a controversial bill. While signing it without posting it was breaking the promise, not overall a big deal. Again, like I said, I'd rather the default be showing it for 5 days and maybe not doing it for a couple, then the default be just signing it without posting it on the web. - dalittle, on 03/24/2009, -5/+22transparency does lead to confidence and I take a little joy in watching these lobbyist scatter like roached when the lights are turned on.
- cawpin, on 03/24/2009, -7/+24WTF are you rambling about?
- joeditto, on 03/24/2009, -16/+32How refreshing to have a leader who promotes transparency and has the qualities of being Clam, Cool & Collective
- ironhide, on 03/24/2009, -2/+18"ton"?
AIG was a drop in the bucket. He got 3 times as much from soldiers. - sugarazor, on 03/24/2009, -5/+20There are loads of public high schools that require community service for graduation and have done so for years. Even more colleges require it for admissions. This is no different than making kids go to school.
- duncan202, on 03/24/2009, -4/+19For the record I don't like much about Obama, but would consider this a good thing. (I support his claim to stop raids on medical marijuana growers as well). That said I'm skeptical it will make much difference in reality... not because of Obama per se, but because of Washington in general.
- ironhide, on 03/24/2009, -0/+13The Hawaii State Department of Health, and Harvard.
Anything else I can help you with? - JenniferInMO, on 03/24/2009, -14/+27And he still denies that Brownie did a bad job.
- Lomstradamus, on 03/24/2009, -8/+20your so full of *****. STFU!
- MaxxusFlamus, on 03/24/2009, -1/+12Doesn't force anybody into anything.
If you join, then you get extra help with tuition. If you don't join, then you don't get extra help.
I opened the bill and searched for 'military' and 'armed' and neither popped up.
This is hardly a "draft" - johnnyg113, on 03/24/2009, -1/+12So, he's broken 3 but kept 20.

I know I've broken the law. - killthekingx, on 03/24/2009, -1/+11You know he campaigned against piracy, right? It's really not much of a surprise.
- phramus, on 03/24/2009, -7/+17Dugg for sanity.
- stuffradio, on 03/24/2009, -0/+10Terrorist Fist Bump! YEAHHH
- sugarazor, on 03/24/2009, -0/+9yaroze - and as far as I can tell, there's nothing in the GIVE Act that calls for federally-mandated volunteering. All it looks like to me is rewards for those who do volunteer, with right-wing alarmists claiming there's "potential" for forced service.
If you want to complain about forced service, let's talk about why every 18 year old male in this country has to enlist for the draft. - killthekingx, on 03/24/2009, -3/+12http://politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/?page ...
Pretty good track record so far. - danj484, on 03/24/2009, -3/+11I think that's the exact reason it DIDN'T occur when Republicans had control over the Executive and Legislative branches. They wanted to have their corporate cake and eat it too, all without us knowing about it.
- bjs3171, on 03/24/2009, -1/+9the fact that he's kept even half of his promises is pretty impressive to me. sorry, but I don't really care if every single piece of legislation isn't transparent, or if they're having a few closed door meetings. i do care if he's fixing the mess we're in. It seems he is.
- forgottenPW, on 03/24/2009, -3/+10Twitter ?! Do you even know what it is or is it just a buzz word you picked up to try and sound like you know what you're talking about.
- publiclurker, on 03/24/2009, -1/+8The truth has a well known liberal bias.
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -2/+9IT's nice that he has transparency in his administration.. but all the lobbyists will do is pitch their plan to the crooks in congress bypassing the administration.. This doesn't mean Congress is not on the take
- ironhide, on 03/24/2009, -1/+8You're one to be talking about spamming.
- sugarazor, on 03/24/2009, -2/+9There's more thought in clicking the thumbs down button than there are in a lot of the comments left on Digg these days.
- TrevorBelmont, on 03/24/2009, -2/+9It's childish to say that the press should be let in to "everything".
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6"Again, like I said, I'd rather the default be showing it for 5 days and maybe not doing it for a couple, then the default be just signing it without posting it on the web."
It would have wound up on the web through thomas.gov like other bills anyway. - NorthMass, on 03/24/2009, -4/+10I am against the GIVE Act, but I am not sure that it forces people to do anything. I think that is exaggeration. But I could see it as a stepping stone to a future civilian draft, Rahm Emanuel has said he wants exactly one of those.
