- darthbutcher, on 11/06/2008, -12/+463This is amazing. For the first time since the Internet's inception, we will have an Internet competent President that will take advantage of what the Internet offers for this nation. In 5th grade, we had to do research papers about the White House, and we went on whitehouse.gov. This was 2001 and the website was barebones and barely even mentioned President Bush. We finally have a true 21st century administration that will modernize politics. :)
- lucycou, on 11/06/2008, -11/+282wow. can you say "efficient"???

Very impressive. - mmijatov, on 11/06/2008, -10/+128I feel like in the days since this election, we've moved further along into the 21st century than during the last eight years.
- charm803, on 11/06/2008, -7/+121Impressive!

Our President is going to be a great leader, but only because he is our REPRESENTATIVE first. - pintomp3, on 11/07/2008, -16/+111we could use a new deal. especially after 8 years of the raw deal.
- SkinnerBox, on 11/07/2008, -0/+91Wow, you were in 5th grade in 2001 and now you're on a website interacting in the same community as I am? My GOD I'm old.
- londonium, on 11/07/2008, -1/+78Um, lol... They still have Lorem Ipsum up!
http://www.change.gov/page/signup - inactive, on 11/06/2008, -4/+78Welcome to the 21st century.
Somewhat direct dialogue between the government and its citizens? It's far better than what we've had.
I'm optimistic, but not holding my breath. - Newsdude, on 11/06/2008, -11/+83I didn't see a digg button the site
- gsadamb, on 11/06/2008, -5/+75If you just take a moment and reflect how much the Internet has changed nearly every aspect of life in the last decade, you realize how pervasive and important it's become to everyday life. From mundane tasks like paying bills, to having instant access to information on pretty much any subject, to communication and entertainment, the Internet's importance cannot be understated.
To have a President who finally "gets it" and uses the Internet beyond putting up a static page is truly an achievement. I hope and believe that Ithe Internet will be an exceptionally important communication tool for Barack Obama during his presidency. And hopefully it will set the precedent for all of government. - acroyear2, on 11/06/2008, -7/+74From the website:
On Technology
The Problem
We need to connect citizens with each other to engage them more fully and directly in solving the problems that face us. We must use all available technologies and methods to open up the federal government, creating a new level of transparency to change the way business is conducted in Washington and giving Americans the chance to participate in government deliberations and decision-making in ways that were not possible only a few years ago.
America risks being left behind in the global economy: Revolutionary advances in information technology, biotechnology, nanotechnology and other fields are reshaping the global economy. Without renewed efforts, the United States risks losing leadership in science, technology and innovation. As a share of the Gross Domestic Product, American federal investment in the physical sciences and engineering research has dropped by half since 1970.
Too many Americans are not prepared to participate in a 21st century economy: A recent international study found that U.S. students perform lower on scientific assessments than students in 16 other economically developed nations, and lower than 20 economically developed nations in math performance. Only one-third of middle class physical science teachers are qualified to teach in that subject, and only one-half of middle school math sciences have educational background in that subject area.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden's Plan
Ensure the Full and Free Exchange of Ideas through an Open Internet and Diverse Media Outlets
Protect the Openness of the Internet: A key reason the Internet has been such a success is because it is the most open network in history. It needs to stay that way. Barack Obama strongly supports the principle of network neutrality to preserve the benefits of open competition on the Internet.
Encourage Diversity in Media Ownership: Barack Obama believes that the nation’s rules ensuring diversity of media ownership are critical to the public interest. Unfortunately, over the past several years, the Federal Communications Commission has promoted the concept of consolidation over diversity. As president, Obama will encourage diversity in the ownership of broadcast media, promote the development of new media outlets for expression of diverse viewpoints, and clarify the public interest obligations of broadcasters who occupy the nation’s spectrum.
etc - Andrwmorph, on 11/06/2008, -1/+64Some of us also went to Whitehouse.com and had our young eyeballs scarred for life.
Hint: It was a different website back then. - BZKyle, on 11/07/2008, -0/+54dude you're worse than fox news...
- Andrwmorph, on 11/06/2008, -2/+52I told Barack Obama all the positives of legalizing weed via the internet! Hooray!
- EvoIII8, on 11/07/2008, -7/+53....I am an Obama convert! That was quick...It is impossible to hate the guy..really.
- acroyear2, on 11/07/2008, -4/+50now he's utilizing these resources for his presidency. that's the difference. now that he's won, he didn't toss out the website.
- acroyear2, on 11/06/2008, -7/+51From the website:
America Serves
"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."
The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start. - had3l, on 11/07/2008, -1/+45http://www.change.gov/page/s/application
I'll apply for presidential janitor, wish me good luck. - steger, on 11/07/2008, -2/+43@bogles do you know what municipal infrastructure is? you do like roads and bridges right?
- paintgrl, on 11/06/2008, -1/+39Gold star for I agree 100%!
- browwiw, on 11/07/2008, -2/+40/me turns the water off to bogles house
Don't ***** with a water plant operator. - kinseyincanada, on 11/06/2008, -15/+52Its obvious that Obama and McCain teamed up and this whole election was a distraction so that they can use the presidents escape tunnel which goes under the Smithsonian museum and steal the hope diamond.
- PandarenLord, on 11/07/2008, -2/+38community service hours are already required in many high schools, and I read on the site that the 100 hours is only for those who opt for $4,000 off college tuition.
- x0rcist, on 11/07/2008, -4/+40http://www.change.gov/page/s/yourvision
Send Obama suggestions for the United States. Tell him to legalize marijuana. - EmprZurg, on 11/06/2008, -1/+37Thats where I did all my research for my report too.....needless to say, I got an F, and a Parent-Teacher conference...lol...
- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -11/+45Or propaganda you should be afraid of?
Maybe that's a little drastic, but seriously, Obama won, he's the president-elect. No longer do we need to be directly campaigning for him, but instead somebody's got to start being the devil's advocate to keep this great guy on track. I know I'm going to get buried because Digg is still high on Obama, but sooner or later, we're going to have to stand up for ourselves, and make sure that Obama keeps to his words. - browwiw, on 11/07/2008, -4/+37No, *****, I was talking about how the water distribution in small towns were installed during the goddam New Deal. You like drinking rust? Do ya? Well, under the last 8 years of the "***** public funding for all forms of municipal infrastructure" you have been.
Got damn I hate near sighted Republicans. - browwiw, on 11/07/2008, -7/+40Oh, god, I hope so. I work in municipal infrastructure and we could use a boost.
- pintomp3, on 11/07/2008, -4/+37@americanparty
yeah, coming out of the depression and creating a middle class, and paving the way for education and technological innovation that took us to the moon really sucked. it would have been better to stick to the free market of child labor, no environmental or work place safety standards, and blacklists. we could have been like chile under pinochet. - cleverboy, on 11/06/2008, -9/+41Awesome. But, looks like its gone down with apparently the entire world descending upon it, and sharing their stories. The power of Democracy. Just wait a minute, they'll get this down. Eventaully the party will move to WhiteHouse.gov.
- aftern9ne, on 11/07/2008, -4/+34We are also "required" to attend school and do homework until we are 16.
Children were never free. If you attend a public, government-funded institution then you will be expected to pay back to the system you use. - absentmindedjwc, on 11/07/2008, -1/+31haha... it is "live"... but it still has dummy text, heh

http://www.jasoncorradino.com/wtf.png - staffell, on 11/06/2008, -6/+35This is the best idea I've seen in Politics for a long time. People have woken up and realised that the internet is the future.
- crapuccino, on 11/06/2008, -2/+31Looking at that last para, Rupert Murdoch must have just ***** a brick.
- Neiby, on 11/07/2008, -7/+35I hope this site is done by the same people who did his campaign website. That was honestly one of the best designed websites I've ever seen.
- SPThom, on 11/07/2008, -2/+29...and in what way does this website detract from him having accountability?
On the contrary, he's given us a point-by-point scale to grade his performance on. Later on, if he hasn't lived up to our expectations, we can point back at this and ask, what happened? Why did you drop the ball?
In most past elections, we've voted for a guy, he got elected, a few months later he'd get sworn in, and we would hear very little about his promises... wouldn't hear much at all until failed policies started coming back to bite us.
Obama's giving us his whole plan and, presumably, an easy portal to keep up-to-date on it. I don't believe a president-elect has ever been MORE accountable than this. - loconet, on 11/07/2008, -3/+30eh.. they are actually going to be posting updates as he elects his administration _and_ take feedback on the process through the website. This is like following an Open Source project.
This truly something. - 25mL, on 11/07/2008, -8/+32Obama never ceases to amaze me. He continues to think outside the typical paradigm and strives to push the bar into territories never explored before. I am so honored and proud to call this man our President.
- woodsjransom, on 11/07/2008, -1/+25Just give it a chance and see what is going on. Yep we are still high, 8 years is a long dry spell. Agreed that he should be accountable, I don't think you will get buried yet. Bush is still the President and there are a lot of things that is going on during the "transition" and this is probably an update from time to time. He is not the president yet. I think everybody is ready to get this show on the road but this is a lull right now.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 11/07/2008, -4/+28What are you talking about? Bush was plenty internet savvy. He learned how to use the google after all.
All joking aside, Obama is the president for the 21st century that we were supposed to get in 2000. - username7410, on 11/07/2008, -5/+28alanocu... the Brave Defender of the .gov domain!
- e1evene1even, on 11/07/2008, -5/+28It would be good if the suggestions were publicly posted and used a system similar to Digg, so through some hybrid "Darwinian democracy" the better ideas would rise and receive more attention.
- Macattack15, on 11/07/2008, -1/+23The wording on this page is misleading, This is from his agenda on education that explains further:
http://www.change.gov/agenda/education/
•Create the American Opportunity Tax Credit: Obama and Biden will make college affordable for all Americans by creating a new American Opportunity Tax Credit. This universal and fully refundable credit will ensure that the first $4,000 of a college education is completely free for most Americans, and will cover two-thirds the cost of tuition at the average public college or university and make community college tuition completely free for most students. Recipients of the credit will be required to conduct 100 hours of community service.
That's $40 an hour for volunteering, I don't know about you but I would do that in a heartbeat. - calypsoschnitzl, on 11/06/2008, -6/+28Impressive.
