- Timborako, on 08/20/2008, -29/+185kinda looks like dave chappelle
- ozymandias2012, on 08/20/2008, -33/+158He should at least offer the guy some change.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -52/+170Oh brother, where art thou? Oops...do ya mind going back until AFTER the election?
- aasukisuki, on 08/20/2008, -34/+141Obama has met this man 2 times in his life. Just because they are blood related doesn't make them family. If you found out you had a half-sibling, and they showed up on your doorstep one day and demanded that you help them, I'm sure you'd drop everything, give them all of your money, and make it your goal in life to make sure their life was perfect.
Give me a break. - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -7/+110It's not really his secret, it's his dad's.
Daddy got around. The man has 8 half-sibblings, from 4 mothers that aren't his.

I guess that makes Cindy McCain's half sister story sort of dumb now, doesn't it? - BobakN, on 08/20/2008, -20/+108Should Cindy McCain's relationship with her half-sister reflect at all on Senator McCain? No.
That being said, there is a substantial difference between Obama's situation and two half-sisters living in the same country not sharing (and this is the important part) an INHERITANCE.
Senator Obama and his half-brother barely know each other and live in two completely different worlds. Furthermore, there was no inheritance here to argue about. Should Obama help his brother? Sure, it might be nice, but his half-brother is not his responsibility any more than a homeless man on the street is yours.
Would you feel responsible for financially supporting a practically complete stranger simply because you shared the same father?
And finally, on a side rant, all you idiots below who keep saying "dollar a day", read the article. It's less than a dollar A MONTH. If any of you hypocrites think Obama is heartless because of this then I imagine you send money to those in need in Africa too, right? Because that's about how well Obama knows his half-brother.
Not being included in a multi-million dollar INHERITANCE is rather different, don't you think? - danielsan1701, on 08/20/2008, -5/+87Ashamed of his poverty, not Barack.
- gavinhudson, on 08/20/2008, -33/+111An interesting read.
- vexingmodstwo, on 08/20/2008, -86/+155But Cindy McCain's whiney half-sister makes the front page because she didn't get some of daddy's inheritance. Where are the outraged Diggers now?
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -17/+80What outrage?
He has some poor family in Africa.
So?
Something tells me that YOU don't help out your extended family when they need a few bucks, why do you expect Obama to have to care for all his extended relatives?
Oh, that's right. You guys prefer the guy who cheated on his wife over the guy who has poor family that he barely knows. Yeah, that's so ethical and morally upstanding.
What exactly are you cowardly losers crying about?
If you are claiming that Obama should be giving money to all his relatives, it seems you'd be outraged at the Hensley/McCain situation in which REAL family was screwed.
But instead it's clear that you have no ethical or moral concern, you are just whining about Obama again.
Well, remember that now that you brought this issue up and are going to pretend that Obama is responsible for every relative he has all over the world, we'll be trotting out the cheated on wives and families of the GOP scumbags.
Oh, that's right. It won't matter, you'll just keep on being scum.
And I agree that Cindy's family business wasn't digg worthy. Just as THIS isn't digg worthy.
But I'm going to digg it, because the more people see your ignorant rightard comments the more they realize what scum the GOP is. - Homerr, on 08/20/2008, -7/+64Obama's dad got around - so therefore Obama is responsible to make sure that each of his half-siblings are well taken care of? Get real.
Read 'Dreams from My Father' if you'd like the other half of the story. - munkyxtc, on 08/20/2008, -36/+90I love seeing all the new accounts around here lately digging up all the anti obama stories. I guess the McCain Internet Squad finally found Digg.
- Doodad, on 08/20/2008, -15/+64Hey guys, the Onion already reported this. >:(
http://www.theonion.com/content/news/obamas_hillbi ... - Falldog, on 08/20/2008, -35/+84Ugh, you conservative ***** are just as bad as Obamabots.
If my father left when I was two and had another son half way around the world I probably wouldn't give much of a ***** either. - AeroMerde, on 08/20/2008, -3/+47Obama's father left when he was 2. He saw the guy once after that. He met this half-brother once.
If you never knew your father and he had some kid in Africa, would you be sending cash? - neognostic, on 08/20/2008, -22/+57Did they let all of the insane people out of the asylum today? Even for neocons, you people have gone off the edge. Stay classy.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -35/+69If Obama were to track down all the fruit of his father's seeds, he'd be able to form his own country and be KING. The first problem he could tackle would be poverty.
- franklymister, on 08/20/2008, -38/+72Interesting insight here into how Digg works.
Nearly every comment on this 3 hour old posting is from a right-winger. Not your mainstream Republican types, but the "OMG Obama Osama his middle name is Hussein" types, who must be on some ping list so they can get in and Digg up anything that fits their worldview, while adding some paranoid commentary.
If this hits the front page, we'll see a bunch of knee-jerk reaction from the extreme leftists who will defend Obama regardless, and use the same trick the right-wingers do of ignoring the issue and juxtaposing something bad the 'other side" did instead.
Finally, the voice of reason will show up about 100 comments in, and get lost in the shouting from both sides.
Whee! - neveroddoreven, on 08/20/2008, -82/+115If this is real, it is a pretty sad story if Obama has not attempted to better the lives of his brothers who live in poverty. I wish more light would be brought to this story so Obama can take responsibility and aid his family.
- DerangedPenguin, on 08/20/2008, -21/+51but Obama wants to use your money to feed his brother.
- franklymister, on 08/20/2008, -5/+35I'm an Obama supporter, and even I laughed at that one.
- Whipsnard, on 08/20/2008, -98/+128Maybe John and Cindy can adopt him and help him to be able to live a better life, because his brother is not going to do crap for him! I guess helping his little brother is above his pay grade....
- spookyttws, on 08/20/2008, -5/+32I don't see how this is an issue. They're strangers connected by a last name and really nothing else. If your father ***** around with someone else what does that have to do with you?
- rabidjester, on 08/20/2008, -6/+33They seem to come over in waves, probably following links from a rightie blog. Ever notice how they're never for McCain, they're just against Obama?
- TheWorm, on 08/20/2008, -3/+29I was thinking Tyrone Biggums.
- Frozo, on 08/20/2008, -6/+30Apparently George Obama is a Digg user:
"I have seen two of my friends killed." - Mplsun, on 08/20/2008, -3/+26I dont think so... I kinda thought the same thing when I saw the pic. People can look like each other with out it being racist.
- asnider, on 08/20/2008, -6/+26Civil war? Yeah, that's a completely reasonable reaction to a difference of opinion.
- brstilson, on 08/20/2008, -4/+25Oh please. Obama's dad got around, and Obama has had limited contact with his father's side of the family.
- mustafya, on 08/20/2008, -16/+35That is the typical liberal politician plan. They want to user YOUR money not THEIRS to fix the worlds ills.
- fluxion, on 08/20/2008, -2/+22i have to half-brothers that ive never met. i dont even know their full names or where they are now. if they took to the time to hit me up, maybe id help them out if i could..but there's no reason i should go travelling the world to track them down and give them tons of dough. for all i know they won the lotto already...
its not a bad reflection on barack...situations like these just happen sometimes. i would hope that, now that his bro and his situation have been brought to barack's door step, so to speak, that he'd help. but i know he will, so its a non-issue.
more interesting to read of the difference one's circumstances can create than to try to look at this for some kind of political fodder. - SethEllis, on 08/20/2008, -7/+28You should have seen this one coming but...
"Would you feel responsible for financially supporting a practically complete stranger?"
Actually I am responsible for financially supporting complete strangers all over the country, and so are you (if you pay taxes that is). It's called welfare. - franklymister, on 08/20/2008, -8/+28Yeah, I wonder how many of these new users wandered over from FreeRepublic?
- spookyttws, on 08/20/2008, -3/+23I don't see how some kid his father had with a women he's never met qualifies him as family he has to take care of. They're basically strangers connected by a last name.
- Brew, on 08/20/2008, -3/+22yeah it does look like dave chappelle a little when he does the crack head tyrone bigums.
- pintomp3, on 08/20/2008, -5/+24they have to earn their mccain action center points so they can get a cone of silence.
- Nannybell, on 08/20/2008, -6/+25I know... that is so weird sounding.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -49/+67Cindy McCain has raise children from other marriages as if they were her own while Obama lets his half brother survive on a $1 a day. Yeah, where is the outrage Diggers?
Who the hell is the Barack Obama guy, you know nothing about the man and are sure he is "Been given by God". - fluxion, on 08/20/2008, -3/+20Captain Context to the rescue!
'Embarrassed by his penury, he said that he does not does not mention his famous half-brother in conversation.
"If anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed," he said.'
Of course, the qualifying statement was a whole 2 lines above the one you quoted, so it is understandable that you missed it. Or maybe you didnt miss it, and just didnt know what penury meant. maybe you thought it meant "my brother Barack". if so, here you go:
penury
n : a state of extreme poverty or destitution;
*flies away, to fight more of the ridiculous twisting of words we've seen during this election season* - michl2077, on 08/20/2008, -21/+39You're right. It's unbelievable how much coverage Cindy's 1/2 sister got and Cindy's not even the candidate!
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -9/+27Zing!
- megadan76, on 08/20/2008, -7/+24Finally, the first sensible thing said in this thread.
- thecerwin, on 08/20/2008, -7/+23They probably hired him for his previous experience. Can you believe that!?!
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -7/+23Who gives a ***** about Cindy McCain's half-sister. Who gives a ***** about Barack Obama's half-brother in Kenya.
- vulgan, on 08/20/2008, -5/+21So, let me get this straight.
They're half brothers.
They live in different countries
They've met twice
And..this means he's a terrible person for not sending this man money? If they grew up together and then Obama shirked him and deported him to Kenya, then it would be horrible..but this is two people who just happen to share some common genes here.
I guess to some Americans that's reason enough to doom their nation to another four years of warhawk vigilantism?
It's a good day to be Canadian... - whatthefu, on 08/20/2008, -3/+18It's true, there's no way McCain has any skeletons in his closet either! I just don't see how it's possible because he is a Republican and everyone knows Republicans have good Christian morals.
- wreckosaurus, on 08/20/2008, -9/+24How the ***** are you nutjobs blaming this on Obama. His father (who left Obama when he was young) had a child with another woman in Africa. Somehow it's Obama's fault that his half-brother from another country that he barely knows is poor. ***** off.
- avsa, on 08/20/2008, -9/+24That´s one story that will be hellish overblown until it really stains his reputation.
I for one don't see anything special. Obama met his father a couple times on his life, he could barely call him "family". This "half-brother" is someone completely unrelated to him, he is more a stranger than anyone you met randomly on the street. If we investigate the "kenyan" side of obama's family we might find a lot of people, half brothers, half sisters, half cousins that obama himself never met, and most of them are probably living the average life you live in kenya. Everything obama ever got was thanks to his american mother.
For me that only shows the difference on the african and american society in terms of opportunities. They share 50% of their genes, but compare how far they got. Thats how much a good education and a stable government can give you. - Madinat, on 08/20/2008, -41/+56seriously people. how is he supposed to keep track of all of his "supposed" half siblings when he only met his OWN FATHER ONCE?! (when he was 10!) these guys are ***** incredible.
- brstilson, on 08/20/2008, -4/+18Man it sure is easy to sit back in your armchairs and judge someone for not keeping track of the family of the man who abandoned him as a child, isn't it?
