- SherriLackey, on 05/22/2008, -1/+4No one really cares that Obama let a Marxist band open for him or that the lead singer endorsed Obama. No one ever cared that Bill Clinton cuddled up with the KJB when he was a college student. The Marxist professors in every university have done a splendid job brainwashing the minds of American youth for far too many years for anyone to care. Repeat after me: "I want the government to be my big brother. I want the government to control my life, take away my property, redistribute the wealth..." Is there anyone that doesn't follow the socialist mantra? How many times does history have to prove that Marxism doesn't work?
- bluevillage, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3How big would the crowd have been without Obama?
- lucy22, on 05/23/2008, -1/+3"You'd think the media would find it interesting that a presidential candidate had a band open for him that typically plays the Soviet national anthem, the song that celebrates communism in Russia,"
- stealthc, on 05/23/2008, -1/+3With or without historical evidence, Marxism, Socialism, the New Left, whatever you wish to call it, should be dismissed because it is logically, philosophically, morally and technically deficient. To subscribe to any of those ideologies, you have to accept that the intervention of force is somehow useful in making people's otherwise free and voluntary interactions "better." You have to believe that a committee knows better than you how to make decisions about your life and finances.
- stealthc, on 05/23/2008, -1/+3That's the question I wanted to pose. I really don't know. It would have been big anyway. I hear he's popular with the kids.

- bluevillage, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Kerry drew 50,000 to that same park when he was the candidate.
- LKnight, on 05/23/2008, -2/+1The media mostly ignored the fact that an overwhelmingly white crowd turned out in totally unexpected numbers - close to 1/6 of Portland's population - to see Obama speak. There's no story in the music, it's a no-name band and there are many rallies that feature music so the early arrivers don't get bored to tears.
BTW, how many times are we going to try this "they came to see a band" angle? It gets the same half-dozen diggers each time, but... well... I suppose when you're running your head into a brick wall you can't be expected to think too much about the process, eh?
