- Pherdnut, on 04/28/2008, -16/+85He's pretty damn smart and he surrounds himself with very smart people. Everybody else tried to copy Rove. Axelrod and Plouffe plotted out how to counter him with the best candidate possible.
- MindyB, on 04/28/2008, -25/+77The man is a genius! Now all we need to do is make sure voters in Indiana, North Carolina, etc., are made aware of Obama's keen abilities to be a great commander and chief.
- DaDrake, on 04/28/2008, -10/+52You make it seem like Obama was the only one who saw this coming. I've been hearing about this for the last 3-4 years. The reason why it happened was because you can't fix stupid. Congress has no (and shouldn't have any) control over greedy lenders and homeowners aren't going to suddenly stop bad spending habits. The only thing the US government did bad was bail out some of these stupid greedy banks. It is wrong to reward failure and our economy would have bounced back just fine without congress help (yes... a lot of people would of been fired.... an estimated 80,000...... but setting a precedent that the US will bail you out will do more damnage in the long run).
- richbleak, on 04/28/2008, -2/+38This is the perfect post. This is one of the most effective examples of what kind of intellect the average anti-Obama fool is working with. Imagine having the audacity to comment on political affairs whilst having no clue about something as basic as the difference between there, their, and they're. Then to compound it with using "is" instead of "are". You are a moron of epic proportions. As if your grammar wasn't enough to condemn you for complete stupidity, you make the most nonsensical point that somehow Obama created the mortgage crisis by predicting it? Go learn something, please.
- spaceman84, on 04/28/2008, -18/+44McCain and Hillary don't give a ***** about the mortgage crisis because they're multimillionaires and they'll just blame it on Bush, even though Greenspan started the ball rolling years ago.
- merwin, on 04/28/2008, -3/+29First, many have been warning of this far longer than a year ago. Second, what good does it do to warn about something and not do anything. Third, you'd have to have been deaf, dumb, and blind not to realize that the mortgage crisis was coming.
Fourth, I like counting. - youtellme8, on 04/28/2008, -2/+27That's right on! The proverbial "leader of the free world" should never again be someone who is merely likable. I want a president whose intellect and judgment tower over mine.
- imgstacke, on 04/28/2008, -4/+28Wow, you are either living in a very profound state of denial fueled by some deep insecurities, or your a shill.
- jmpeagle, on 04/28/2008, -4/+23well considering the mortgage crisis started in Feb 2007 with the virtual collapse of the first financial firms driving up huge volatilties in the market (you can see the spike in late Feb early March http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickc ... it was an issue everyone was talking about back then)...I would not give him too much credit...especially since everyone, even real estate firms knew we were in a bubble more than 3 years ago...but as long as more and more suckers kept buying then people felt their was know reason to stop building and buying.
- the6thReplicant, on 04/28/2008, -4/+23All I want is a president that surrounds him with smart people. If you're smart then they just have to be so much smarter.
- marmanukem, on 04/28/2008, -6/+24How the hell is this the fault of gov't regulation? Its the fault of both lax regulations and predatory loan companies. The gov't has had a completely hands off approach, and all bushy has done is to send out a check for 600 bucks. WHOOPDEE ***** DOO. Real action needs to be taken on this, before it becomes a real calamity.
- TripleAStacked, on 04/28/2008, -2/+18you forgot /sarcasm
- NSResponder, on 04/28/2008, -11/+27A year ago? A whole YEAR? That would be amazing, if Ron Paul and anyone else who was paying attention hadn't been warning us about it since the start of the bubble TEN years ago.
Give me a break.
-jcr - oldgal, on 04/28/2008, -3/+18When I look at Obama's advisors, I cannot tell what his position will be on a given issue. He surrounds himself with accomplished people who comprise a multiplicity of views. This not only provides the opportunity for more dynamic solutions, it also facilitates gaining acceptance from disparate parties. When I look at McCain's and Clinton's advisors I can easily predict their positions - it appears they select their advisors to support their predetermined positions.
- Tenlow, on 04/28/2008, -2/+16Well perhaps hamas' support for Obama has more to do with the fact that his foreign policy might actually solve some major ***** problems, instead of just throwing bombs and money at it.
- thcobbs, on 04/28/2008, -5/+17"Its the fault of both lax regulations and predatory loan companies."
Its also the fault of wannabe property moguls and stupid loan choices by the citizen. Taking all the blame away from the moron who signed on the dotted line is just wrong. - exronin, on 04/28/2008, -0/+11This is all i see when ppl like you talk. "If i close my eyes it doesn't exist, im a 4 year old, ooga booga!"
- Chrispyc1211, on 04/28/2008, -1/+12If we fixed the problems with our foreign policy, they really wouldn't get such a boner for killing Americans. They're normal guys, albeit brainwashed with religion and such, and then given a target. If we're not viewed as people trying to crush THEIR religion, my head will remain on my shoulders.
- philipl411, on 04/28/2008, -1/+12Hell, I was predicting it years ago. does that make me qualified to be President?
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -0/+10Link?
- momsshizzle, on 04/28/2008, -3/+13Yawn. He and everyone else predicted it too. Wanna a lollipop Digg? Buried.
- imgstacke, on 04/28/2008, -1/+10The over arching property of disinformation campaigns is the narrative given is always inconsistent with itself. Its purpose is to lead to chaos and misunderstanding.
The truth is always consistent with itself. - smacksaw, on 04/28/2008, -14/+23To be fair, this is a duplicate...several times over. But it still deserves a Digg.
Hey righties - I got a question for ya. How is it that Hamas can support Obama, and yet Obama is the only person who tried to do something about the mortgage crisis? What does that mean? That even a terrorist organisation can understand the mortgage crisis but McCain and Hillary can't? Is this a stupid analogy? Is it any dumber than the analogies you guys use connecting Obama to whatever you like to take out of context, make up and blow out of proportion? - smacksaw, on 04/28/2008, -1/+9LOL...that was the point. These "false dichotomies" you speak of are littered throughout every Obama post by right wingers. It's not supposed to make any more sense than they make. Capice?
- oldgal, on 04/28/2008, -1/+9The nice thing about surrounding yourself with smart people is you don't have to be perfect. You just have to listen, moderate, and decide. You can be much quicker when you know the folks around you will immediately let you know when they think you are making a mistake. If you can't listen, then you need to be perfect.
- hierophantus, on 04/28/2008, -0/+8You're not really a very good troll, either. Sorry.
- mrn111, on 04/28/2008, -3/+11Oh....so you want an elitist president?
/sarcasm - kaelyiesta, on 04/28/2008, -0/+7So if he is a genius for seeing this a year in advance, what are the people who have seen it even earlier? Omniscient?
- clubby, on 04/28/2008, -0/+75 years ago, Obama paid off his student loans. Yes, his book is selling very well, but he remembers what it was like to be middle-class the way a man in his early twenties remembers what it was like to be 16 -- or at least, far better than someone who's pushing 50. Hillary's been living in a governor's mansion, a private mansion, or the White House, for 30 years. She can't even remember what it was like to be of modest means.
- groone, on 04/28/2008, -2/+9yup, he's right up there with Nostrodamaus
- jpete71chevmal, on 04/28/2008, -4/+11Maybe he read something Ron Paul wrote 20 years ago?
- pastanoose, on 04/28/2008, -5/+11nah, he means a central bank who manipulates interest rates to make them artificially low, inciting banks to issue loans to individuals who obviously can't afford them, as well as, making individuals feel like they could afford more house/car/credit debt than they truly could... But I don't know why I am explaining this to you, as the man said, "you can't fix stupid".
- Dietrich, on 04/28/2008, -1/+7I remember predicting this back in 2006 based on the rampant house value inflation caused by interest only loans in high population centers. I think it was mainstream news later on that year, although I had nothing to do with that. What the heck is impressive about Obama repeating the news?
- wafla, on 04/28/2008, -2/+8It was President Bush's people who showed up at a meeting with actual hedge clippers and chainsaw, saying they were going to "cut out all the red tape." After deregulation, see what we get: 50% of people with sub-prime mortgages actually qualified for prime mortgages, but they were Enron'd into paying more and are now getting foreclosed on. It's okay because you can trust a conservative to make gov't bailouts. // The world is screwy.
- LeeSoong, on 04/28/2008, -3/+9Ron Paul:
http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/debt-and-taxes/
Obama is the new kid on the block, Dr. Ron Paul & the related economists
have been forecasting the economic down turn for a couple decades,
it's all in the numbers . . . - KirbyMeister, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5her ads say that, then again, she was saying she was against nafta when she was praising it 'from the beginning'
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5"And lenders knew this, and still gave it to them."
Yes...which is why they ALL need to be hung out to dry. No bailouts of the lenders and no bailouts of the "I gotta keep up with the Joneses" idiots. We need a *REAL* market correction here. - RainNIU, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5I'm right there with you. It doesn't matter if he doesn't have a lot of experience, as long as he doesn't have too much pride that prevents him from surrounding himself with those that do.
- MsArtGeek, on 04/28/2008, -1/+6Lax government regulation leads to manipulative and predatory lending practices by financial institutions who have been given a green light to actively seek out people who can't afford the loans they are taking out. The people taking out the loans may not know any better, may be thinking that things will improve in their financial life, may be desperate to take a chance for the sake of their family, and now the only ones benefiting from this are the individual brokers who made fat commissions on sales.
thcobbs, the loan officer is a finance professional, and to absolve them of blame when they know more about the realities of these loans than the conumers do is mean-spirited and hypocritical. If a loan officer is making a high percentage of loans the default, and as professionals they're supposed to know better, why dump all the blame on the guy or gal who just wanted what they've been programmed to want since birth- a home of their own? This is a systematized scam, and like others that have been run on the homebuying public it needs to be addressed and the regulations tightened up. Loan officers should not be rewarded for making loans they know their customers will probably fold on. - inactive, on 04/28/2008, -1/+6Finally someone who understands.
- saffrononyx, on 04/28/2008, -0/+5Here is the link if anyone is interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86LzKSsuB2w
- jmpeagle, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4the mortgage crisis was the hot topic in march thanks to one of the largest drops in stock market history in late february thanks to a crash in much of the financial sector
- MrFurious2k, on 04/28/2008, -4/+8I think it's time that diggers stopped posting stories about Obama and just started fellating him instead. It'd achieve the same result and spare the rest of us.
- jmpeagle, on 04/28/2008, -1/+5Why did I use the word know instead of no in my last sentence...I need sleep...
- HMTKSteve, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4Did you read the letter? Obama points out that the regulators (government) are part of the problem!
- iRelinquish, on 04/28/2008, -1/+5your point?
- merwin, on 04/28/2008, -2/+6Yes, blame it on the minorities. It's all their fault.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -1/+5He wants to bail it out at a cost of more than $2 trillion?
Link? - mesasone, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4Not just minorities.
