- judithlewisla, on 10/07/2008, -13/+174If Ayers is such a radical, then why did Walter Annenberg, a Republican philanthropist appointed by Presidents Nixon and Reagan, trust him with $50 million for school reform?
This is just silly. Republicans, civic leaders and politicians served on that board, too. Republicans in Chicago had never criticized anyone who served on a board with Ayers. - inactive, on 10/06/2008, -14/+145first they say obama is an extremist Muslim mole in training to support terrorists from child hood.now he's also an Eco terrorist/supporter. this i believe would make him not only the worlds first extremist Muslim Eco terrorist but the youngest as well.since he was around four years old when ayers and the weather underground were active.it is unimaginable that there are people out there( who can dress and feed themselves) who buy this crap.sure proof we need change in America as it is painfully obvious that education in America has failed these people
- mcarrel, on 10/07/2008, -17/+108This is the usual Republican demonizing. They don't have any issues to run on, so they accuse their opponent of hating the troops, hating America, or being a terrorist sympathizer. The facts be damned. They are big on how 'Christian' they are, but don't have any trouble bearing false witness. They are full of hate for anyone who disagrees with them.
Thank God, for Obama and his positive message of hope! - elf202, on 10/07/2008, -12/+76"Regardless of his background, it was never a problem for anyone — including Republicans and Chicago's most powerful business leaders — to work with Ayers on Chicago's public schools. In fact, Ayers is widely respected in the field of urban education."
No why would the good GOP citizens of Chicago or other places remain passive about an outrageous, race-baiting, empty and ugly McCain-Palin campaign? It cannot be just spectators on the outside who find the that McCain-Palin is doing such a great disservice to the America that we used to hold in high regard. So-called 'ordinary people' that Palin is always invoking cannot be that dumb or blind or in denial. - paintgrl, on 10/07/2008, -16/+65FTA: It was never a concern by any of us in the Chicago school reform movement that he had led a fugitive life years earlier," said former Illinois state Republican Rep. Diana Nelson, who worked with both Obama and Ayers over the years. "It's ridiculous. There is no reason at all to smear Barack Obama with this association. It's nonsensical, and it just makes me crazy. It's so silly."
Nelson says her fellow Republicans "might snort when they hear the name Bill Ayers, because they know he comes from a wealthy family, they know he became a radical activist early in his life ... but beyond just snorting, I don't think anyone gives it another thought."
"I don't remember ever hearing anyone raise concerns or questions or concerns about [Ayers'] background," says Anne Hallett, who has worked closely with Ayers on the Annenberg Challenge grant and with Obama on education and other community and legislative matters. "And that included everybody I was engaged with," including prominent Republicans, and corporate and civic leaders in Chicago, Hallett adds.
Hallett calls this attack on Obama's association with Ayers and the Annenberg Challenge by further association, "a smear campaign. It's a political diatribe that has no basis in fact. The Chicago Annenberg Challenge was an extremely positive initiative. It was well-vetted, thorough, and the fact that it is now is being used for political purposes is, in my opinion, outrageous." - wherearemymeds, on 10/07/2008, -15/+60Another line of crap debunked ---by the republicans!
See you at the polls - MediaWeasel, on 10/07/2008, -15/+58The Republicans have absolutely nothing of substance to offer - either in the form of smears of Obama or in the form of policies that will benefit the whole of America and not just the monied few at the top of the tree.
It really is laughable that they would dig this up again - and that they would think their efforts will be appreciated by the McCain / Palin / Repubican camp.
In fact, it's pathetic that Palin is bringing this up, since she knows absolutely nothing about it and is just parroting what she's been told to parrot like an automaton. Mindless repetition. How daft she makes herself look. - chosenson, on 10/07/2008, -14/+54As my grandfather would say, the McCain campaign linking Obama to a known "terrorist" is pure tripe.
Hey, Palin! Hey, McCain! What do you plan to do about the economy?? Quit trying to change the subject and come up with a plan!!
YOU need a distraction. WE need a plan. And WE get to vote!! - HarryRag, on 10/07/2008, -7/+38The GOP is insane.
In 2004, they claimed John Kerry, an American war hero, was nothing more than a dirty traitor who hated his country.
Four years later, they claim that Barack Obama, a man who has lived (lives?) the American dream, is nothing more than a terrorist who hates his country (despite the fact that he, y'know, keeps saying America is the greatest country on earth).
The GOP is insane. - chosenson, on 10/07/2008, -14/+41FTA:

"The First Dude" was a member of the Alaskan secessionist party up until recently.
- LooseFur, on 10/07/2008, -13/+39As the GOP gets more and more desperate, they cannot even be bothered to check the facts before trying to fool us voters.
But we are going to get revenge, big time. At. The. Polls. - kolyana, on 10/07/2008, -5/+29Wait, we're all concerned about some connection to a guy that was a 'radical' 40 bloody years ago, but we're not concerned about Palin's connection to her church, where they regularly salivate over the prospect of "The End of Days"?
Riiiiiiiiiiiight.
Smoke and mirrors, pure BS smoke and mirrors.
"Hey guys, we have no policies and no hope of winning - let's start name calling and see what sticks, that's good for the country!!!!"

- CChandler2423, on 10/07/2008, -4/+26This "terrorist" was Chicagos citizen of the year in 1998. Some terrorist.
- Echota, on 01/05/2009, -12/+33Republican Congresswoman Clears Obama On Ayers!
http://digg.com/politics/Republican_Congresswoman_ ... - acroyear2, on 10/07/2008, -6/+27Actually I heard Obama is a eco terrorist, muslim, homosexual, half breed, whitey hating, extremist, socialist, ultra liberal, baby killing, crack head who exchanges blow jobs for coke in limousines and he hates his grandma and is starting a secret cabal of African terrorists in Kenya.
If you tell me there are some contradictions in there, you might be a terrorist too. - tcbishop12, on 10/07/2008, -14/+34As the McCain campaign continues its steep nosedive, they are desperate to smear Barack and try to build on their lies about his religion, insinuate that Barack Obama has a deep relationship with William Ayers. William Ayers was once a member of a radical group in the 1960s.
The Truth: Barack Obama lived in the same area of Chicago as Ayers, and Ayers has been a politically active member of that community for years.
Considering that, it’s actually remarkable how little the two have to do with each other.
Early in Barack Obama’s career, he attended one reception in his honor at Ayers’s house.
They also were separately asked by a charitable organization comprised of prominent Republicans and Democrats - to serve on that organization’s board.
And that’s it.
There’s no friendship between the two, no relationship, no history of working together.
This whole manufactured issue was already hashed over in the primary, but the failing McCain campaign, desperate to change the subject from the state of the United States and the unpopularity of McCain's policies, are trying to revive this discredited attack once again.
If you believe we should get beyond the battles of the 60s to meet the challenges of the 21st century, reject these tired attacks and spread the truth.
The Truth Fights Back site will hook you up: http://www.truthfightsback.com/site/smear/253/ - henhanson, on 10/07/2008, -3/+23McCain was a POW. 9/11. Pork.
- dinerlee, on 10/07/2008, -6/+24Are ANY of the charges that McCain and Palin make against Obama true? I can't think of one single accusation of theirs against him that has withstood examination. On the other hand, all of the serious accusations against McCain and Palin can be backed up by their own words on videos over the years. Pick one--Keating 5; FCC influence peddling; dumping an injured wife; crashing 4 planes; reversals of important issues and promises; Palin's whack jobs against career state employees, etc.
- sulthernao, on 10/07/2008, -3/+18My history teacher was taught by Ayers at UIC and has is phone number. Does that make him a terrorist?
- malex, on 10/07/2008, -3/+17Do you even read the articles? Ever?
- jjc4good, on 10/07/2008, -10/+24The Annenberg board was full of Republicans and Independents and Annenberg himself was appointed by Nixon and Regan (both Republicans, for the historically challenged).
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/7/131120 ... - DrThunder, on 10/07/2008, -6/+20legolas68 and btschul read the article before commenting. Both of your comments were covered in the article and disputed. And btschul 1995 and 2001 are not around the same time.
- CeeAyy, on 10/08/2008, -5/+19There is no need for spin. It is common knowledge that he knew of Ayers past. However, the way it is being characterized is a matter of spin and an obvious smear. He didn't "hang out" with him. He served on a board with him. They weren't best friends. They weren't secret lovers. They knew each other in a professional way.
Again, this is a matter of guilt by association. Do you want to talk about McCain's CLOSE association with one of the men intimately involved in WATERGATE? A man who plotted the assasination of a journalist who was writing about Nixon. A man that McCain currently talks about as a close personal friend. A man that talks about destroying this country. A man that is unapologetic about his planning and actions. Do you want to talk about Hagee or the many questionable associations that McCain CURRENTLY keeps and associations that he is currently proud of? How about Palin's association with a church that believes in witchcraft? How about Palin's association with people who want have Alaska leave the union. They want Alaska to be independent of the USA. Do you want to talk about those associations? Depending on the situation and who is listening, her associations can be viewed as TREASONOUS. Want to talk about that? No... I didn't think so.
So again... there is no spin needed. Guilt by association is ridiculous. As a matter of fact, considering the political bent of this website, does that make you just like everyone else on this site because you are a frequent poster? Fluffer... - pintomp3, on 10/07/2008, -1/+15scorched earth. they don't care how many reputations and lives they ruin in their quest for power.
- lived666, on 10/07/2008, -4/+17"numerous sources saying that Obama and Ayers were good friends"
Are any of those sources credible or are the all part of the Republican smear campaign?
FTA "no one on the board or on the Annenberg Challenge staff remembers Obama being any closer to Ayers than to any other member of the board. The Annenberg board also included several civic, business and education leaders, many of them Republicans." - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -9/+22Wow I guess McCain must think his republican buddies are terrorist too right??? Lets show the republicans that this only motivates us.....lets donate as much as we can, knock on doors, do some phone banking and make sure we all vote for OBAMA in the post debate polls....network and cable online and text messaging polls along with local and national newspapers online.
- IRaphy, on 10/07/2008, -1/+13why don't you read the article before posting.
- medfreak, on 10/07/2008, -1/+13Libs?! That is all you got? Libs and hippies and ***** wordings? There are plenty of republicans and conservatives that endorsed Obama, and all you got is your typical 80s *****?
- DrThunder, on 10/07/2008, -4/+16And he was also taken out of context. Read the article. But you probably made up your mind and nothing will change it. Ayers was never convicted of anything. Obama and Ayers are not friends they know each other in passing. Do you really want to go and do background checks on every person a political figure has meet?
- PabloHungry, on 10/07/2008, -5/+16I go to people's houses for lunch all the time. Some of those people believe in cutting their sandwiches in half, and do not regret cutting sandwiches in half, and feel more sandwiches should be cut in half.
This does not mean that I believe in cutting sandwiches in half. I in fact prefer to eat sandwiches whole.
But that doesn't mean we can't be friends. - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -5/+16Palin's personal views are every bit as extremist as Bill Ayer's. Not to mention the fact that Palin endorses teen pregnancy.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Ayers: the charges were dropped due to "prosecutorial misconduct".
- malex, on 10/07/2008, -1/+11OH CHRIST.
God in heavens knows that the FOUNDING FATHERS would never want to be associated with anyone like a RADICAL ANTI-GOVERNMENT REVOLUTIONARY. - mille716, on 10/08/2008, -2/+11I've actually met this "terrorist" when I was a student at Michigan State about seven years ago. He's really soft spoken and polite. He blamed his zeal on youthful naivete.
I never thought about him again till I had to read a couple of his papers in my teacher ed classes.
Then I never thought about him till this dumb ass "controversy" popped up. - tcbishop12, on 10/07/2008, -0/+9God help us.
- WasabiBomb, on 10/07/2008, -0/+9And this means what, exactly?
Bill Gates held the door open for me a few months ago, at a local restaurant. Does that mean I'm a billionaire? - malex, on 10/07/2008, -1/+10All this statement proves is that neither you nor anybody like you should ever be in charge of anything.
Here's the part that you missed:

Apparently it's okay to be racist if it's under the guise of hating Muslims. And yet Christian Reverend Wright is supposed to be a close personal adviser. Riiight. So He's a Secret Muslim who is an racist Christian....
- dinot, on 10/07/2008, -3/+12Amen to that!
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -3/+11McCain's records have never been fully released. You know, the guy who brags about his carousing and drinking in the service, who crashed multiple planes, - his records have never been fully released.
- flamesoftheend, on 10/07/2008, -4/+12Is that all you got Mccain!?
- CChandler2423, on 10/07/2008, -2/+10Rather than bury you, I'll ask you why you say this? You don't win citizen of the year for nothing. In this case, it was for his work on public education.
- gimpbully, on 10/07/2008, -4/+12do you understand how mccain got into the naval academies? Look up the word, 'nepotism'. Where are the refusals to release his academic records? Your source is youtube and you're furthering it through digg?
- gimpbully, on 10/07/2008, -2/+9yes, I'm asking for a better source.. or a source period. You said to use youtube as a reference. Not a specific video, you said 'youtube'. That is a piss poor source with no accountability.
- BWigg, on 10/08/2008, -4/+11This makes the Olberman post just that much sweeter for me. Touche` Keith
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27054958/ - 55mph, on 10/07/2008, -3/+10President McCain LOL!!
- gimpbully, on 10/07/2008, -1/+8what was partisan? I think that was a clear presentation of facts. The Annenberg Foundation is still around today and has put literally billions into academic funding. Do some research and quit with the red herrings.
- CeeAyy, on 10/08/2008, -4/+11Oh, and one other thing Wargalas...
I watched the video. You call that proof? It doesn't really matter if it was true or not as it is guilt by association, but again... you call that proof? I thought you were going to show video of the man himself or something more than what you showed.
Admit it... you just can't see yourself voting for anyone other than a caucasian. The truth will set you free. You're only as sick as your secrets... just admit it. I can respect you for telling the truth behind your agenda. -
