- tbikkle, on 01/04/2008, -27/+558I got goosebumps watching that speech -- he's speaking as if he's already the President. And I can think of nothing I'd like more for our country in '08.
Regardless of what happens going forward, "historic" is an apt description. A state where 95% of the population is Caucasian just elected an African American nominee for the Presidency. That alone is really something. - wreckosaurus, on 01/04/2008, -24/+551"We are not blue states and red states, we are united states."
nice - mrfreeziexp, on 01/04/2008, -15/+378"9/11 is not a way to scare up votes, but a challenge that should unite America"
I just found who I'm going to support for this election. - HenvY, on 01/04/2008, -7/+280I bet Bill secretly supports Barak more than Hilary.
- Red05, on 01/04/2008, -13/+267When he speaks, I get a tinge of hope. I can't think of the last time a politician has done that. Good luck Obama!
- RFKactionfront, on 01/04/2008, -23/+252Senator Obama was absolutely spectacular tonight.
- silverbullet126, on 01/04/2008, -4/+207Ok US citizens looks like this guy is pretty damn good ... please don't screw this one up ... Thanks Canada
- BristolMyLove, on 12/21/2008, -14/+213Wow. I want him to be my President.
- SirRudy, on 01/04/2008, -11/+201Inspiring. I love how he speaks to his audience and not to his podium (like one president I know, not naming names.)
- TheHapacalypse, on 01/04/2008, -9/+196Finally, a potential president who speaks with clarity, sincerity, eloquence and grace, as opposed to the lying, incoherence and rampant egoism we've had to put up with the past 8 years . . .
- DasCrackbaby, on 01/04/2008, -4/+166Meanwhile the Republicans are still saying "I'm the only candidate who can defeat Hillary"
- dn11, on 01/04/2008, -10/+158If they said he looked and sounded presidential before - he's up on a whole new level now. Yeah, he's still a politician. No, I don't believe everything he says (even if he truly means everything he says with complete earnestness as he appears to - you know what they say about best laid plans). Even so, with the people we've had in office for the last seven years this man is a breath of fresh air to a drowning nation.
- sugarhigh4242, on 01/04/2008, -3/+144Thank you Barack for having the courage to call ***** on the flag lapel pin.
Beyond the inspired words of his victory speech, the notable absence of the lapel pin says to me: "They are called 'French Fries' *****!!!". A much welcome return to the days before our world standing was set on fire. - Chirp08, on 01/04/2008, -1/+130I like how he is able to make words and sentences that can be understood too
- thephuckphase, on 01/04/2008, -12/+140didn't it seem obama went unconcious and transformed for a brief moment in our parallel universe into the soul of dr. king
- BristolMyLove, on 12/21/2008, -8/+120I wish I could double Digg.
- bitspace, on 01/04/2008, -1/+105Of course, and that is a progressive and moral viewpoint, but most Americans to date have not been so open-minded and unbiased. The fact that a largely-white population nominated a black man really is quite a step forward in our society.
- nepdogg, on 01/04/2008, -6/+95He has authored two wonderfully written books, and speaks with spine tingling charisma, the likes of which this country has not seen since JFK.
Can anyone picture Bush writing a book? Whoa, I'm getting a little ahead of myself...Can anyone picture Bush giving a speech without tripping through the most simple words? Obama is the breath of fresh air that this country has been longing for, for years. - PATSCRU, on 01/04/2008, -7/+91I saw him speak at my school about a year ago before he announced his candidacy and people were awestruck....it's been quite some time since we had a politician who could speak like he does...
- Rachmaninoff, on 01/04/2008, -2/+84Now contrast Obama's quote with something said by Clinton last night:
" ... because I want the people of America, and particularly Democrats, and like-minded independents... and Republicans who have seen the light ... to understand, number one, that the stakes are huge, that the job is enormous, but that I believe we’re going to make the right decision."
And she claims to be campaigning for CHANGE? - Ramble, on 01/04/2008, -14/+92No it isn't. This whole black thing is overstated, who cares if the candidate is black or female or a dancing hippo? Their opinions are what matters not their appearance.
- Houndstooth, on 01/04/2008, -5/+76I don't know how many others there are, but I've been a Republican for almost 20 years now and I WILL change my party and vote either Obama or Edwards. More than promoting party ideals, this country needs someone to bring us together, unify us, and give us purpose and pride. Either Edwards or Obama could do that.
- davebrook, on 01/04/2008, -25/+83OMG!!! That was the best speech I've EVER heard ANYONE give! I seriously CRIED! I USED to be for Edwards ... now I'm in the Obama camp ... I just hope he can get better at debating real quickly here!
- smackjack, on 01/04/2008, -16/+74Obama's the type of person who can change America for the better without actually doing anything in office. He's a true leader and that was an amazing speech
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -13/+70Amazing speech. I have goosebumps.
- lordstryker001, on 01/04/2008, -5/+61I'm so glad I went to the caucus last night and voiced my support for Obama. Time for the rest of you across the country to do the same in your primaries
- mrfreeziexp, on 01/04/2008, -2/+58He can actually pronounce the words he has written down!
- theutopian, on 01/04/2008, -9/+58Except without all the god crap.
- SupaFurry, on 01/23/2008, -7/+55Wow - he really does understand the current mood of the country. He could be a great president.
- inactive, on 01/04/2008, -4/+50Someday we might even be able to say "they nominated an American" without reference to race. Wouldn't that be groovy?
- theutopian, on 01/04/2008, -1/+44You must be new to America.
- exomni, on 01/04/2008, -1/+42I'm guessing Kucinich. Have you seen his wife?
- pintomp3, on 01/04/2008, -0/+40are you still toeing the "no experience line"? he taught constitutional law. i will take that kind of experience over political experience any day.
- rudy23, on 01/04/2008, -1/+41I loved that subtle jab he took at rudy. I mean that 9/11 ad of rudy's is absolutely disgusting and tries to show the scare tactics his whole campign is based upon. Its time to grow some balls and stand up and obama is here to lead the way.
- tbikkle, on 01/04/2008, -2/+42He never once fell into the trap of religious prosthelization, so if by "preaching to the people" you mean that he came out and voiced his opinions in a clear, inspiring and uplifting manner, then yes indeed, he was preaching to the people and it's about time someone did.
He modeled his speech after one of the great orators of our time? Oh no, what an *****! - catalysis, on 01/04/2008, -0/+38It seems like older people are really shocked by it but younger people don't think it is a big deal at all. Yet another reason why we need to get the older generation out of power. People who take the attitude that "it could never happen" are resisting change just as much as anyone who is actively fighting against it.
- xcbxcb, on 01/04/2008, -12/+48That's one of the better speeches in American history. 50 years from now, people will remember that speech.
- Shiftgood, on 01/04/2008, -5/+41did you miss kindergarten? its purple buddy..... purple.
oh and for future reference
blue + yellow = green
red + yellow = orange - RansomHoldiay, on 01/04/2008, -0/+36As Bush would say, "As a children, he did learned."
- RansomHoldiay, on 01/04/2008, -8/+44I saw him speek in St. Pete last year. It was spectacular. The FAMU marching band opened up for him and then he came out and delievered an amazing speech as always. He truly believes what he is saying.
Honesty? Trust? Hope? In American politics?
Obama '08 - consoneo, on 01/04/2008, -2/+37That's why he "just found out"
- Lazrath, on 01/04/2008, -2/+37apparently you can, since it is on the front page twice
- noahhoward, on 01/04/2008, -0/+34Bush and Cheney have plenty of experience... based on their performance it is clear that experience is obviously the most important factor.
- twiny3, on 01/04/2008, -5/+38OBAMA for President!!!
- AbbyRoad, on 01/04/2008, -4/+36A few months ago I wasn't so keen on Obama, but as I hear him speak more and research him and the progressive tendencies of his past I actually am gaining hope for this country... Not to get my hopes up too high though, I have a month before my primary, I will probably vote for Obama but we still have a long way to go.
- chaosium, on 01/04/2008, -6/+37"Yes, they said the same thing about Hitler many times too."
God, you Paulentologists are really laughable at this point. Nobody takes you seriously. Your message is a joke. - BristolMyLove, on 12/21/2008, -7/+38I too got goosebumps.
- damndj, on 01/04/2008, -11/+40From one of your previous posts:
"...because i'm a fanatic Ron Paul supporter =D"
Enough said. - rudy23, on 01/04/2008, -0/+28at 95% caucasian state just voted for him.
- sublimemm, on 01/04/2008, -1/+28Fool me once, shame on you. Ahh uh you don't get fooled again
