America's immigration policy shouldn't serve American interests -- it should specifically serve the interests of non-whites who want to move here but maintain their own cultures at Americans' expense. The problem isn't that the industrial elite are importing hostile foreigners who will work for less than Americans -- the problem is that we're not being 'inclusive' enough of the hostile foreigners that Obamamiah identifies with.
When was the last time that we had a president who put Americans first -- before any Marxist or imperialist agenda? - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -2/+11people over there, just like in Africa are eating ***** dirt...something needs to happen..i got some interesting results when i goggled, "Bring us your tired poor and huddled masses"
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox- ...
..it looks like China is Gonna take over Africa soon and industrialize it...i agree that we cant just open the floodgates, but the majority of us here are descended from immigrants, and if people really want to come here, believe me, they will get here...
"extremely alien habits"...it's called "Culture"...is Obama running for president or dictator?...even King George hasn't been able to dictate immigration policy...this is way bigger than just Haiti or Obama...idea's for a viable solution anyone?... - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -3/+12The US has plenty of unskilled labor. Bringing in more will only be a drain on our social safety net. If these were Hatian PhD's it might be a different matter. But I doubt that's the case.
- ChesapeakeBaybe, on 08/03/2008, -2/+9The organization he was speaking to represents "journalist of color." Aside from political pandering to a select group, it cannot possibly benefit Obama to be seen as welcoming to Haitians.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a realist when it comes to US immigration. As the education level of the US continues to rise and baby boomer continue to age out of the system, the US is going to continue to experience shortages of low-skilled (meaning poorly paid) workers. The US's draconian immigration policies make it difficult, if not impossible, for poor, uneducated workers to enter the country legally. There are probably as many Haitians as Cubans that scramble for the Florida coast each year. Provided they touch the ground without capture, the Cubans are allowed to stay; and with good reason. Cubans are largely a self-sufficient culture. Relatives provide employment and housing and once the immigrants assimilate they do the same for other newcomers.
Haitians are a bigger risk -- coming for a country with high rates of violence, extreme poverty, illiteracy, belief in voodoo, and speaking a language that just about nobody understands. They also have high rates of HIV and other diseases and are at higher risk for criminal activity. - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -1/+7The employees should be punished much more severely than the illegal immigrants.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+6MG: America, and Americans, cannot save the world. Our politicians have been failing to do that for almost a hundred years now. We haven't even fixed homelessness or poverty in our own cities. We have tens of millions of unassimilated, unworking, or predatory individuals making the cities and streets unsafe. Fixing those issues elsewhere is completely out of the question, as are attempts by various racial organizations to import more members of their little groups, especially when those imports refuse to assimilate, obey our laws, respect our laws, or, frankly, stop killing us and destroying the economy.
The best way to help Haitians is not to import them to satisfy Obama's cronies in Illinois meat-packing plants or build up the Democrats' racial constituency. The best -- and only -- way to help them is for entrepreneurial individuals to invest in their economy by building companies *there*. - ChesapeakeBaybe, on 08/03/2008, -1/+6Re: make sure that agricultural jobs are in the state job banks so that those on welfare know that its an option ...
Here's the problem: the welfare recipients don't want these jobs. Not only because they are awful, but in most instances they actually pay less than welfare. - jontalisman, on 08/03/2008, -3/+8I am tired of both political parties allowing so many people to immigrate freely into this nation.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -2/+7The US allows more legal and illegal immigration than any other country in the world. So what makes our immigration policies "draconian"?
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -1/+5May they serve the national interest, and not their own, that of elite corporations looking for a cheap, disposable labor force, or that of hostile minority organizations looking to reshape America in their own images.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+4Agreed. Increasing the LFP of 'drop-out' groups would not only improve the status of those groups, but give employers native candidates to work with. If and when we fix America's problems, this $9.5T in debt country can turn its liberal messiah complex loose on other peoples' problems. Still, I live in a modern American city, and if I drive in a 'U' shape through my town, I can drive through 6-8 enclaves where I risk being shot for the color of my skin by people who don't have jobs, don't know anyone who doesn't have *their* skin color, have high rates of criminality and STD's, can barely read or write English, who would rather 'keep it real' by selling drugs, robbing, and hustling than get a job, make their neighborhoods into war zones for the decent folks, and who have burdened the city so much with crime and demands for 'public' services that most area residents refuse to live in the city. Those communities and the massive growth in Latino gangs on the Left Coast are proof that you can't 'save' people from the outside, regardless of how many trillions of dollars you spend, and you can't assume that everyone is just going to fit in and become self-sufficient.
- thejimmyo, on 08/03/2008, -6/+9"many with extremely alien habits"
Like drinking a glass of water using only their index finger. - ChesapeakeBaybe, on 08/04/2008, -0/+2Draconian meaning excessively difficult to navigate. Perhaps I could have expressed it better, but what I was trying to say is this: Preference is given to certain groups. For instance, a high-salaried professional friend from England has been jumping through hoops for eight years. However, had he floated over on a raft from Cuba, the process would have been far less onerous. Still, his situation is better than a Mexican migrant worker who has virtually no chance of coming here legally despite the fact that US economy needs low-skilled, temporary workers.
- inactive, on 08/03/2008, -4/+6That's it in a nutshell. If people want to come they should be qualified.

- SheilaNoya, on 08/04/2008, -2/+3What a bunch of bunk.
The people bitching about this don't seem to mind Bush bringing 12,000 Iraqis to the U.S. each year as part of his refugee plan for a small portion of the 4 million Iraqis who are now displaced as a result of his senseless war. - jontalisman, on 08/13/2008, -0/+1Actually, yes.
- Stevanoski, on 08/04/2008, -1/+2More like a salad bowl that a bulimic threw up in after eating a 7 course meal at Sirloin Stockade.
- Joshbu42, on 09/28/2008, -0/+0This makes me sick.
Obviously from what I read you know nothing about the country of Haiti. Do some research, I bet you wouldn't dare repeat that.
After 4 hurricanes in a row, thousands died. No one even blinked. What's the problem with someone caring what happens to another human being, most of which are far more so than you. - Stevanoski, on 08/03/2008, -3/+2This will cost me some of my valued conservative friends, but the only simple (not easy) way to solve SS/Medicare/Medicaid is to allow 30 million people in in the next 30 years.
Ever wonder why blacks from around the world can come to the USA and succede and why USA born blacks cannot (to the same extent)? Some say it is the plantation mentality of the native born. This has become such a conundrum that the NAACP wants to divide the categorization of Blacks to native born v immigrants. - inactive, on 08/03/2008, -3/+2this is true, but we must consider the potential PhD' too...people who have the fortitude to do what it takes to enter this county legally, usually do have that potential..it's not easy to become an American Citizen...most Americans couldn't even pass the citizenship test, and don't even know who their Senators, Representatives, or in some cases who the President is...
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -2/+1Native American, I take it?
- V3n0M, on 08/04/2008, -3/+2Good thing for you, too. It would require something more than a 5th grade reading level to understand it if you did, and if this comment is any indication, I'd say that's a bit beyond your grasp.
