- mnortei, on 01/25/2009, -4/+46http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/
- haikuFU, on 01/25/2009, -0/+39It's because your ass isn't sore anymore from the bush administration.
- cyprianoman, on 01/25/2009, -13/+44Obama has done so much in such a short time even though normally politicians wait to the end of their terms to do all this stuff so they can get re-elected, he is starting strong and hopefully he will be finishing his term even stronger, while still doing a lot in between starting and finishing.
- ohsnaptuls, on 01/25/2009, -3/+28For ***** sake people it's only been 100 hours.
ONE HUNDRED HOURS.
First of all, it's hard to please a bunch of pissed off conservative republicans and/or racists. Second, you can't say he's not trying. I think it's pretty harsh labeling him a liar/failure because he hasn't fulfilled all of his promises 100 HOURS after he officially became our President. - TheJalu, on 01/25/2009, -6/+31Ofcourse you digg. MrBabyMan gave you content that you really like so who cares that he submitted it?
- yomamaisfat, on 01/25/2009, -13/+36I'm so confused: I like Obama, but I hate MrBabyMan. Do I digg?
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -2/+13Thanks for the enlightenment, much respect!
- gl77, on 01/25/2009, -5/+15yea but Babyman is a douchebag power user....
- r0g3r, on 01/25/2009, -4/+12The border area of Pakistan where they want us not to actively pursue terrorist fighters is not strongly under Pakistan's control. They cannot police the area. So their solution is to just leave these remote areas as havens for terrorists to set up camp. If Pakistan doesn't step up to the plate and police it's own territory, then how can it claim sovereignty?
- ZeroCubed, on 01/25/2009, -2/+10While Chris Floyd is a reputed writer (albeit, he seems inclined to hate Obama), your other source is a guy on flickr with a photoshopped image? Your message isn't saying "I've actually read smart stuff and understand the issues", it's saying "I just searched digg for anything against Obama and linked them"
- DouglasQ, on 01/25/2009, -7/+15-and that's four DAYS, not years.
Congratulations America for getting back on the road to being cool again.
EDIT: eight years* - r0g3r, on 01/25/2009, -5/+13Wow freezing those midnight regulations was a smooth move. Obama might do us right yet.
- ftc08, on 01/25/2009, -9/+16It's nice to have a president who... you know, actually does ***** for the good f the people
- fiatjustitia, on 01/25/2009, -0/+7No, anyone who thinks they'll be accused of that if they criticize him is a right wing nutjob with a persecution complex.
- multiformat, on 01/25/2009, -4/+11Voted for the guy, really like him. However these "first" articles are getting boring. He's a democrat and did what was expected. Clinton did did the same thing when he came in, then Bush did the same thing to suit conservatives. Nothing new here in quickly setting party policy agenda during the first week.
- CaviMike, on 01/25/2009, -1/+8Do you happen to have dubya's?
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -0/+6Don't understand why you're getting dugg down, I helped elect Obama partly because I'm sick of the Bush "above the law" presidency. He does really need to follow his own rules.
Ideally, lobbyists for corporations found to be bribing our lawmakers should be drawn and quartered. - profgiles, on 01/25/2009, -3/+9Oh grow up and Digg it.
- emkaysmith, on 01/25/2009, -3/+8Yeah, and where are the conservatives cheering on Obama for attacking the Mooslim terrorists? *right-wing crickets*
- fiatjustitia, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5He's not our messiah.
But he is our President. - fiatjustitia, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5I cannot ***** believe you bat-***** freepers won't drop this.
He's a citizen.
He was elected.
He's *your* President.
GET OVER IT. - Mutton, on 01/25/2009, -0/+5Well, he has four years to fulfill his promises, so unless he directly contradicts himself, it'll probably stay at zero for awhile.
- AmazingSteve, on 01/26/2009, -0/+4Funny, nobody held Bush accountable for ANYTHING. How is Obama different? Remember Freepers, YOU are the ones who said "don't criticize the President in wartime" so STFU and stop being so un-American. Hypocrites. When we want your opinion we'll give it you.
- Shanks0711, on 01/25/2009, -5/+9good
- fiatjustitia, on 01/25/2009, -0/+4"a bunch of pissed off conservative republicans and/or racists"
Thank you for that inclusive description. It's one I hope more of us start using. - emkaysmith, on 01/25/2009, -1/+5Listen, ANY rule in government will have exceptions. Real Life (c) doesn't adhere to a set of absolutes. The question is whether the explanation for the exception is valid and acceptable. In this case, in my judgment, it is -- especially coming from Gates, who is a holdover and knows he's on probation in the new cabinet for that reason. If the explanation had been a Bushian "Because he's a great American," then, NO -- it wouldn't be acceptable. Obama is (mostly) a progressive -- but he's also very much a pragmatic politician. If you want to get the good things in your program accomplished, you have to know when and how far to bend rules, and when such bending is necessary and when it's unjustified.
I worked for a U.S. senator for several years in the early '70s. It was a considerable education in understanding politics and those who practice it. - tourettes1992, on 01/25/2009, -1/+5If only making medicinal marijuana legal was on that list, or legalizing hemp was on there....
- shylove, on 01/26/2009, -0/+4There is nothing that can clean-up a war for lies and Halliburton cost plus contracts when they don't even want to pay US taxes and sending poor US soldiers out to risk their lives time after time after time. But given a CIA that conducts terminal experiments on homeless people and prostitutes and drug addicts they can pick up off the streets, what can we expect or getting computer companies to leave back doors for intelligence agecies to use.
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3You mean Obama has said he is going to do so much.... He hasn't actually done anything yet....
- MWeather, on 01/26/2009, -0/+3@jetboyterp
"We weren't in Iraq on 9/11/01"
No, but we were in Saudi Arabia (and giving them money), and gave billions of dollars to Israel, two things Bin Laden mentioned a lot prior to and after 9/11. The Sauds are not popular, nor is Israel or the presence of foreign troops on muslim holy land (the Arabian {Peninsula).
"and they hated us when we weren't even at war with them."
We were at war with them. We had been for a decade at least, and it didn't come out or nowhere.
After Saudi Arabia turned down Al Qaeda's help with the Iraqis and opten instead to house non-muslim soldiers on the Arabian peninsula, all hell broke loose. Al Qaeda issues a fatwa to expel all infidels from muslim lands.
After that? Yemen,The WTC bombing, The Khobar Towers, Tanzania, Kenya, the USS Cole, and finally 9/11. Each one met with a US counter-attack.
All because we stuck our noses in the Middle East's internal affairs (again). - inactive, on 01/25/2009, -3/+7So true - actually going after terrorists is a pretty big change of pace from Bush.
- Lifehedge, on 01/25/2009, -3/+6Yup, "clean break" it is. He just killed 18 people in that time (the Pakistan attack).
- odigity, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3Looks like nothing important has changed to me:
http://digg.com/world_news/AP_NPR_Suspected_U_S_Mi ... - JakeW, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3No, he is saying he's already done 5 of his first 500 promises in his first few days.
I think this website is great, and keeps tabs on him quite well.
Could you imagine if Bush had something similar to this what the numbers would look like? - Anachronus, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3Keep looking.
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3No. 502: Get his daughters a puppy
- inactive, on 01/25/2009, -0/+3Inaccurate. He stated he was going to keep lobbyists out of his administration and then, quickly I might add, hired one. http://www.usnews.com/blogs/robert-schlesinger/200 ...
- Poblasai, on 01/25/2009, -1/+4Nice page. Hope they keep it updated throughout his presidency.
I'd like to keep a eye on the "Promise Broken" section. Hasn't been long, but we're still at 0. - TheInformer, on 01/26/2009, -0/+3Going from doing what you believe is right to poll driven policymaking.
Change indeed. - protodon, on 01/25/2009, -8/+10haha you suck republican dick.
- ASSASSYN360, on 01/25/2009, -2/+4CHANGE!
- soybased, on 01/26/2009, -0/+2And not just "his" people.
- jgzman, on 01/25/2009, -1/+3Close. Kill terrorists, GTFO of Iraq so we stop creating more. Seriously, killing one terrorist and creating two is a net increase in the number of terrorists.
- paulsuckow, on 01/26/2009, -1/+3I remember that after the December 12, 2000 selection of G.W. Bush by the Supreme Court that I thought to myself, "the man represents the opposite of what I believe, but he has absolutely no mandate...perhaps like Gerald Ford, nothing much will happen." Then when he began to govern, vigilence being the price of liberty, I looked for that first decision of his administration that I could agree with. Eight years later, I had come up with virtually nothing. Whew, what a relief my Barack Obama has already proved!
- inactive, on 01/26/2009, -0/+2"Clean Break" ? That sounds so familiar
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Clean_Break:_A_New_ ...
A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm, commonly referred to as the "Clean Break" report, was prepared in 1996 by a study group led by Richard Perle for Benjamin Netanyahu, the then-Prime Minister of Israel.[1] The report explained a new approach to solving Israel's security problems in the Middle East with an emphasis on "Western values". It has since been criticized for advocating an aggressive new policy and advancing right-wing Zionism. - staticneuron, on 01/25/2009, -0/+2"The Obama administration's decision ended around an executive order that the president signed Jan. 20. His "revolving door" ban, part of Obama's "ethics commitments," ordered officials who had been lobbyists for up to two years prior to their hiring to recuse themselves from decisions involving their former employers."
"A statement issued by the Democratic staff on the Armed Services Committee said the arrangement met their requirements.
The panel "will continue to insist that Mr. Lynn comply with a strict set of ethics rules that we apply to all nominees, including the requirement to recuse himself, for a period of one year, from any decisions involving his prior employer, unless specifically authorized to participate by an appropriate ethics official," Levin said."
"Lynn was not, prior to this week, a widely known political figure. But his background, outside of Raytheon, is extensive and impressive. He served for four years as the Under Secretary of Defense, was the director of program analysis in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and was awarded three DoD medals for distinguished public service. In addition, he has extensive history on Capitol Hill, having served for six years under Sen. Ted Kennedy.
On Thursday, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called him a "uniquely qualified" individual who shouldn't be precluded from serving "the public interest in these critical times." On Friday, Gibbs added that the waivers like the one granted to Lynn to serve in the Obama White House would be "limited" in their number."
So yes, and no. Yes, it seems like a breech of his own policy to do this but no it isn't as big of a deal as people are trying to make it. He used to work for raytheon. but the 1 year exemption from dealing with them fits the terms and he is more than just a former lobbyist for raytheon when you look at the facts. He has experience. And people keep on forgeting what obama has said before.
""Understand where the vision for change comes from, first and foremost," he said. "It comes from me. That's my job, to provide a vision in terms of where we are going and to make sure then that my team is implementing [that vision]."" -
