- inactive, on 04/13/2008, -10/+119I feel sorry for Obama. He tells the truth and gets slammed for it by drive-bys in the media. He wants to help middle class and they call him an elitist for it. Unbelievable.

OBAMA BLOWS HIS NOSE - TheStinger, on 04/13/2008, -11/+66Obama will triumph over negativity.
- ggnictee, on 04/13/2008, -2/+39This story in particular is brining out the "digg/msm is working for obama" comments. I think they're missing the point. msnbc isn't being 'pro obama' when they say it's virtually impossible for clinton to win the delegate count: that's just math. 60+% in all remain contests is a really hard mark to hit.
And in this case digg isn't front-pageing a story that 'obama sneezed' if clinton and mcain had said nothing: nothing would have come of it. But what diggers are encouraging is a politician who sees bitterness and says "hey, you guys bitter?" instead of pandering, blaming others and ignoring actual problems. This is why Paul was/is so popular here (lo though i disagree with every thing he says) he didn't give political 'lines' on the middle east. he said 'here is the history, lets look at it and learn from it'. and even though i'm a democrat (bordering on socialist) which is the opposite of everything Paul stands for: I respect and appreciate that candor and (frankly) courage.
Obama stood up in front of a lot of bitter people in a place where jobs and houses are becoming unattainable dreams and said "I understand."
Maybe he's not the best person in the world to be president. but at least he's talking to us like we're adults. Lets show ourselves the same level of respect and act like them.
Digg normally has an incredible power to raise above (i'm so sorry for using the phrase) politics as usual. Remember when the Moonanite/Boston thing happened? how quickly it was reported, fact checked and dismissed as silly here? We need to do that to our politicians.
We must hang together, digg. Or we will most definitely hang separately.
Be patient, be kind. glhf. - redneckblues, on 04/13/2008, -1/+36You're right, let's just stick to the tissues.
- pagit, on 04/13/2008, -3/+33I am sure after she looses her candidacy she will become a bitter woman
- fasda, on 04/13/2008, -3/+31apparently you forgot to check if your caps lock was left on before you submitted your comment
- incredibilistic, on 04/13/2008, -4/+31Will I find my lost jewelry? Will my girlfriend accept my marriage proposal? Will I get that promotion? Just figured I'd ask since you seem to know the future.
- petska, on 04/13/2008, -9/+36is it agreed that everyone on Digg is for Obama??
just asking - mal1964, on 04/13/2008, -3/+29This isn't out of touch,
You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not."
"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." - Entroper, on 04/13/2008, -1/+21Right. Obama is the elitist candidate. And the states he's won don't matter, right? And the people who voted for him, and the million people who donated to his campaign, they were all just naive and fooled by speeches without solutions, right? Wait, I'm confused; who's being condescending again?

- zephyear, on 04/13/2008, -5/+20being in touch with voters?
- Oozinator, on 04/13/2008, -3/+17I can't believe this has become such a controversy. This is what's wrong with the people who can't get away from the ridiculous old gotcha politics and refuse to acknowledge Obama's substance. They hear hope and yell EMPTY! They hear him speak an uncomfortable truth and yell BUT THAT'S NOT EMPTY! The only thing that's empty here is their heads. Hillary seems to think there isn't any bitterness in the rust belt. Are you kidding me? I hear her empty, pandering statements and I yell WHERE'S THE SUBSTANCE?!
- thailand1972, on 04/13/2008, -3/+15Rick Astley 08 - a full commitment's what he's thinking of - you wouldn't get that from any other guy.
- darwinwins, on 04/13/2008, -2/+13It took one president to bring this country close to ruins and to destory the military. Why not think it might take one president to fix it up again? Think of it as a fixer-upper of a house and he just happens to be one hell of a carpenter. (Religious conotations not on purpose).
- rlbond86, on 04/13/2008, -0/+11Simply stating "this is the truth" doesn't make it so.
- 0Degrees, on 04/13/2008, -11/+22Excellent response. I'm definitely no Obama supporter, but he does make a good point about people being fed up for some very real, and moreover justifiable, reasons.
Really though, McCrazy should try to quiet down until after the DNC. - inactive, on 04/13/2008, -2/+12Why do you have to rain on our parade? He is the best choice by the long shot. It is simple as that. So go out there and tell people he will cure cancer.
- RungeKutta, on 04/13/2008, -0/+8If you believe that, then you're just a crazy conspiracy theorist. I'm sorry, but you are.
Lots of people are, or have been, members of the CFR. Have you ever read an issue of Foreign Relations (that's a publication you can find on news stands)? Have you ever read articles and papers they've published? You do know that they have members from all over the political spectrum, right?. While you will find someone still in support of Iraq, you will find others with the exact opposite point of view. They even post online "debates". Dick Cheney has been in Congress and so has Ron Paul, does that mean Ron Paul is evil? Think for yourself instead of regurgitating information found only on conspiracy theory forums and sites. - chrisaug18, on 04/13/2008, -4/+12Woah, that gave me goosebumps
- NightVortez, on 04/13/2008, -6/+14Nope, I am still for Paul, McCain out of the ones still running, though I'm probably just doing a write-in. I'm just trying to be respectful to those who support Obama by posting as little negative comments as possible in their threads.
Although I do like how we were called spammers, bots and psychopaths for having many stories about out candidate submitted on digg, yet the same thing exact "spamming" thing is happenings with Obama articles now and those same people remain silent. - masterm1nd, on 04/13/2008, -0/+8Haha, in the thumbnail iGoogle gave me Hillary looks like a midget.
- zizzy, on 04/13/2008, -1/+9http://digg.com/elections/, number of friends per candidate:
Barack Obama - 15818
Hillary Clinton - 1945
Ron Paul - 19454
John McCain - 1415
Alan Keyes - 700
Those are the only ones listed. Now, it's only an abstract approximation of who people on Digg support, and there is probably a lot of overlap, but it definitely seems to show that not everyone here is for Obama. - crump199, on 04/13/2008, -1/+8I should think that the people bitter and angry about not having jobs would be the ones that need hope
- Jennefah, on 04/13/2008, -2/+9Isn't this more defense from the attacks of the other candidates? He said the voters were bitter previously, and now defends what he said against the remarks of Hillary and McCain saying he's "out of touch".
It's more of a "retort" than an "attack" - darwinwins, on 04/13/2008, -1/+8Sometimes I wonder if he's using himself in this manner to generate controversy just so he has another topic to which he can speak on. Seems everytime he gives a speech, the press stops and pays attention and in turn the people notice and listen. He can't be that clever, right?
- briansalo, on 04/13/2008, -2/+9He's maintained his calm this far into the race, I'm sure he knows what he's doing.. and a few jabs here and there to McCain and Hillary can't hurt :D
- Pake, on 04/13/2008, -1/+8He doesn't necessarily have to be a Billary supporter. He could be a Ron Paul supporter, a Nader supporter, or support someone else.
- KloroFormd, on 04/13/2008, -2/+9You're not an Obama supporter, you said "McCrazy"... that leaves Billary.
The bury, it is coming for you. - sephiroth965, on 04/13/2008, -0/+7Not excepting money from lobbyists is different...
- wendelgee2, on 04/13/2008, -1/+7wow, so this is what our public schools are churning out these days.
by the way, you spelled "disciple" wrong, professor. - gsadamb, on 04/13/2008, -1/+7Says the guy who writes posts like this:
"I'll ask Carter, Gore, Clinton and Obama to shut the ***** up. They only know that they hate themselves, rich people, and America, and should not be respected at all."
So what, this is gonna be the second election you vote in? I advise you actually study the candidates and their positions instead of posting useless rhetoric. I just hope that maybe you reach your opinion by yourself as opposed to just parroting what your parents say, or what you hear on talk radio. For centuries now, ever since the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1789, the politics of anti-patriotism has reared its ugly head, and almost never for the better.
If you want to dislike the Democratic candidates because of their positions, fine. But to make a sweeping generalization that they hate America or whatever; well, by doing that, you're not speaking very highly of their supporters, and if their supporters make up half the electorate, well, you don't care about half of the people in America. Does this mean that you hate that half of America?
America elects people via a democratic process, and you're revealing your contempt for its Constitution if you don't ever think through the decision. - inactive, on 04/13/2008, -0/+6No i will not vote for McCain. Thank you very ***** much.
- robthom, on 04/13/2008, -3/+9"Personally I think it Is a Poor response by Obama. Barack wheres your heart man? What happened to hope? to positive thinking? "
You sound bitter or angry about something. - ggnictee, on 04/13/2008, -0/+6I agree with you 100%. As I said I disagree with Paul's conclusions almost universally. It was his methods I admire.
The willingness to look at the cold war politics that created the situation we're in and realizing that just saying "they're mean. We are innocent" isn't helpful. But this is beside the point (really) mostly it was having a discussion with the public as though they were grown ups who could understand complicated concepts like the difference between cause and blame. This is what I want more of. Need more of. Demand more of. - robthom, on 04/13/2008, -2/+7I doubt most middle class, and especially the working class do a whole lot of stock trading. I like how you state that Obama not being good for your stock options is bad for the middle class. The wannabe posh middle class like you are not representative of the majority.
- mal1964, on 04/13/2008, -8/+13My 2nd choice.
- incredibilistic, on 04/13/2008, -2/+7Wanna talk about being bitter? How about when I go to the post office to fill out an application for a federal loan to help me save my mortgage? Will I be approved? Will the money even show up? Will it be any better than trying to get money from FEMA? Speaking of which, how long will I have to wait for this blank check? When do I have to pay back the loan? Will this count as a second (or third or fourth) mortgage?
By the way, this is McCain's plan. - Pake, on 04/13/2008, -0/+5"This is why Paul was/is so popular here (lo though i disagree with every thing he says) he didn't give political 'lines' on the middle east. he said 'here is the history, lets look at it and learn from it'."
I would disagree. Anyone who says "here is the history, lets look at it and learn from it" would be the first person to point to pre-1914 US politics in which the US government kept out of international affairs and realize that you can't stay out of world politics like Ron Paul desired to do. It doesn't take a history major to realize this was a bad more and that we still managed to find ourselves a part of two of the largest wars in human history. - mudpuddle, on 04/13/2008, -0/+5A serious prediction from a serious user.
Thank you for your insight, "Sergeant Quackers". - inactive, on 04/13/2008, -2/+7“f*cked up human being”. Weeeee. At least republicans no longer attack him for being an alien from outer space. I say that is an improvement.
- publiclurker, on 04/13/2008, -2/+7In other words, he showed you what you are and you don't like it.
- gahal, on 04/13/2008, -3/+8I was for Obama at the start. Then I was for Ron Paul after he came along. Now I am back to Obama, as he has the best chance.
(I am a registered republican) - Oozinator, on 04/13/2008, -0/+5Buried. The CFR is far from a nefarious elite organization. Their "scary" publication is Foreign Affairs, which is the gold standard for foreign policy publication by top officials and academics. It's the same Journal that first gave publicity to Mearsheimer and Walt's essay on the disproportionate impact of the Israeli lobby (which later became a book). It would do you some good to pick up a copy and do some reading.
