- jkbowman, on 01/02/2008, -10/+251The best news here is that this is terrible news for Hillary. - Thank you, Dennis!
- MSF2, on 01/02/2008, -16/+167I didn't really have enough room in the title to say it, but it seems like Obama might pick Kucinich for his running mate. "... fundamental change ... same priorities ..." it's not so much of a stretch.
At least it's pretty obvious right now he won't be picking Hillary:) - inactive, on 01/02/2008, -27/+121*****! Just because he voted for the war funding doesn’t mean he supports the war. He was AGAINST it from the beginning.
Not supporting those funding bills would mean letting more poor American soldiers to die ‘cause inadequate equipments, etc. Soldiers don’t decide whether or not to invade, stay, or leave Iraq…Would should they be punished? - corkdorkdan, on 01/02/2008, -8/+99O/K '08? It's kind of catchy...
- StMac, on 01/02/2008, -29/+99You are a moron. Obama will not offer Kucinich the vice-presidency in return for 1% of the caucus goers in Iowa.
- TheKarmaPolice, on 01/02/2008, -6/+67Kucinich is my #1 choice for president, but as far as the realistic choices go, Obama would be good with me. if they did run on the same ticket i would be very happy.
- dagnabbit, on 01/02/2008, -10/+68They mean that he voted for funding bills. Money that sent the troops armor, ammo, etc. Obama has said that when troops are in harm's way, he will vote to provide them with what they need until they can bring an end to the war.
- bagelmaster, on 01/02/2008, -0/+55If these two were running mates (and won) my hope for America's future would raise a little bit.
- NightVortez, on 01/02/2008, -2/+52Well you just did.
- Tenbatsu404, on 01/02/2008, -15/+59What is irrational is Obama voting to sustain the Patriot Act, the most egregious erosion of our civil liberties. If you're going to vote democratic vote for Kucinich.
- nblsavage, on 01/02/2008, -6/+49Oh shut the ***** up.
- Falldog, on 01/02/2008, -11/+48Sellout? Obama is one of the cleanest main stream politicians out there.
- wild, on 01/02/2008, -11/+46You're going to get dugg into hell, and its a shame.
Thats the thing with this country and how people follow politics. They only look at subjects in terms of black & white. "He voted to fund the troops, so he must support the war." No, you can't look at it like that. Read the thinking the man had behind the vote. He didn't want to fund it, but to take the money away would have put our troops in peril. He understands that, and he understands when to choose your battles.
But then, I guess comprehending that there is more to a decision than "yes" or "no" is too difficult for a generation that has to approve or disapprove of every comment they read, or digg or bury articles based on whether or not they like the content. - kipmartin, on 01/02/2008, -81/+114i wouldnt use the words 'Ron Paul' and 'rational' in the same sentence.
- ironhide, on 01/02/2008, -1/+34McCain is a sellout
- Coven, on 01/02/2008, -9/+41If he were to vote to stop funding the troops, you would chastise him for abandoning them. When he refuses to leave the troops hanging, and votes to give them what he needs, you call him a warmonger. You can't have it both ways, *****.
- bahamutxd, on 01/02/2008, -2/+33Actually, the resolution vote was 77-23. And Obama wasn't senator at the time. Look up H.J.Res 114.
- cybermort, on 01/02/2008, -14/+41this is one of the reasons why our democracy is failing us because we are force to choose between A and B and lately neither is the right answer.
Kucinich wants universal health care, Obama wants to force medical insurance. The ugliest part of medical system will remain intact under his system. In order for insurance companies to maximize profit and make stock holders happy they have to give less value to their policy holders than the amount of money they take in. Most of the time this is done with complete disregard for the health of the individual.
"give me liberty or give me death", thats the kind of thinking that started this country not "give me liberty or at least give me liberty monday through wednesday and every other sunday". If we were all brave enough to stand for what we believe we wouldn't have to deal with so many always hedging, double speak, politicians that have invaded our political system. - swrostmore, on 01/02/2008, -7/+33PS. the Council on Foreign Relations is a bipartisan foreign policy think tank and Obama is not a member.
- BurnTees, on 01/02/2008, -1/+26why do people refer to him as anything? people should vote based on policies, not anything else.
- dagnabbit, on 01/02/2008, -10/+35cashman never gets tired of being dugg down. Your rants in every Obama thread are so lame dude. Get another MO.
- drgori, on 01/02/2008, -1/+25Whichever Democrat wins the nomination will likely beg Gen. Wesley Clark to run as VP. Having a military man on the ticket will help shield the candidate from any "soft on terror" smears.
Also, the horserace-obsessed MSM commentators (the Chris Matthews and his ilk) would lambaste anyone who picked someone like Kucinich. I'm not saying it's right, but it's what would happen. - warrenterr, on 01/02/2008, -10/+34obama-kucinich sounds like the change we need.
- phunlee, on 01/02/2008, -4/+27except you know.. try to become president.
- jmpeagle, on 01/02/2008, -13/+35no politician is worthy of our trust, not even Ron Paul. He is merely the least horrible candidate. The cult of personalioty developing around Paul is kind of disturbing because it is everything he is against.
- emalen, on 01/02/2008, -0/+22Is it 1996? Holy crap, my time machine works!!!
- StMac, on 01/02/2008, -4/+24You have no clue how this works do you? He's not endorsing Obama. If Kucinich does not reach 15% support, he is not viable and people cannot caucus for him. Kucinich is telling his supporters to go to Obama in precincts where he (Kucinich) does not meet the 15% threshold in an attempt stop Clinton. Oh, and to assume this is to get the vice-presidency is beyond stupid. Not going to happen.
- GhostyBoy, on 01/02/2008, -9/+29I don't care if you think Ron Paul is crazy or if you want to scream OMG CFR!!! everytime Obama's name comes up. Realistically the best possible scenario is Obama v.s. Paul.
The alternative is Hitlery v.s. Some Republican Douchebag. Come on America, don't let us down! - deroderugridder, on 01/02/2008, -1/+21so vote for war hunger politicians to have peace?
ridiculous - Luminoth, on 01/02/2008, -1/+21True, it was estimated to be around $361 million per-plane. Good catch there.
- koko775, on 01/02/2008, -1/+20"his rhetoric is often inconsistent with his actions"
And yours is inconsistent with your facts...because you didn't provide any. If you're asking young voters to be skeptical, well, fine: I ask that you provide a few serious examples of Obama's inconsistencies (the topic at hand) , so we may know these inconsistent actions of which you speak. - Aquabat, on 01/02/2008, -5/+23Al Gore wouldn't run in our lowly Earth elections. He's President of the Moon!
- Hacbarton, on 01/02/2008, -2/+19The "supporting the troops" claim is absurd. Do people really believe that, if a budget is held off for some time, that the first cuts would be in armor and ammo? The military's day-to-day expenses is from the defense appropriations bill, passed in September, which covers essentially everything but Iraq an Afghanistan. If the budget were froze between Congress and Bush, they would take their funds for the war from there, which could carry them for nearly 7 months
In any case, I'm and RP supporter, but an Obama/Kucinich ticket might steal my heart - tchynerd, on 01/02/2008, -0/+16Exept that Hitlery practicly is a Republican Douchebag
- McHoffa, on 01/02/2008, -4/+19since when does a Paul supporter look at poll numbers?
- babar77, on 01/02/2008, -1/+16I live and grew up in Illinois - the most corrupt state in the union - I completely disagree. The fact that Obama was able to pass any kind of campaign finance reform at all in this state is a testament of what the man can do - and that he can put his money where is mouth is. He proven to me that he knows how to work within the system to drive change.
- HypocriteDigg, on 01/02/2008, -2/+17Hell yeah! This would give America a chance to get to know Kucinich, who could then probably get elected President after Obamas term.
- hmunkey, on 01/02/2008, -2/+16Two words: ***** YES.
- babar77, on 01/02/2008, -1/+15The disgusting part is that Bush is using the fact that the troops are in harms way to force a congress to continue funding an unpopular and woefully mismanaged war. Seriously, what kind of man uses other people's lives as leverage to get his way? f'ing jackass.
- patburke1980, on 01/02/2008, -1/+15Kucinich is awesome.
- jroll8481, on 01/02/2008, -1/+15what i don't understand is the amount of hate against Obama. I could see if people were making valid arguments, but they are accusing him of being things that are are in complete contradiction with his voting record and platform. Accusing him of being a sellout to corporations/lobbyist?? he was the one that took took the fist step in lobbyist reform in congress. he has said on many occasions that he wants to take the bill a step further and make congress transparent for the people.
so not only have these people not read the actual article, they either have not done any research on Obama before making this accusations or have a personal agenda against him and are hoping that the uninformed will take them seriously. if it were the usual amount of trolling that you expect here that would be fine but i mean its an onslaught here in this article that for once shows politicians being more than just politicians. If you hate the man that much, come up with a valid argument against him and back it up with facts. otherwise its clearly not that serious. - ifoundgodot, on 01/02/2008, -4/+18I don't mind Obama terribly, but what frustrates me is his views on what to do with Iran....It's sad that the top two choices for the democratic nomination would continue with the American government's absurd obsession with the Middle East.
- inactive, on 01/02/2008, -1/+15You can copy and paste, we're all VERY impressed. Any proof that they are manipulating/controlling Obama in any way?
- Juice7, on 01/02/2008, -2/+15Well let's hope you're wrong and Obama chooses integrity over some extra votes.
- apersaud, on 01/02/2008, -15/+28AL GORE FOR VICE PRESIDENT!!!!!!!
- hmunkey, on 01/02/2008, -1/+14We don't give a ***** about RP. This story is not about RP. GTFO.
- swrostmore, on 01/02/2008, -4/+16Mike Gravel?
- Hacbarton, on 01/02/2008, -0/+12I thought you were being ironic, so I laughed and dugg the comment. Then I noticed your screen name, and realized you might be serious. You owe me a digg.
- NightVortez, on 01/02/2008, -1/+13Yeah I don't think either side wants this.
- koko775, on 01/02/2008, -0/+12Leave it to someone named ronpaul20008 to accuse a politician of being a corporate sellout. Compared to Ron Paul, it might look like any of the other candidates is a corporate sellout, just like comparing everyone to Ron Paul you might accuse Dr. Paul of being a sellout to racists -- but he's not, even despite getting donations from some...er, disagreeable groups.
If you've read the literature, you'll see that Obama takes learning about topics on which he decides *very* seriously, and many times comes to a decision only after hearing out both the pros and the cons from average citizens who will be directly affected. This is the opposite of corporatism, in my opinion; he listens to the people and thinks about the consequences laws will have on *them*, not their 'corporate overlords'. -
