- inactive, on 04/09/2009, -64/+12812 MILLION??? Who the hell is pushing this number? There is well over 20 MILLION ILLEGAL's in this country. Let me see if I’ve got this straight, they broke our laws and now should be rewarded? Round ‘em up and KICK ‘em OUT!
- ProfessorSYM, on 04/09/2009, -13/+70Great, now they can pay income taxes like the rest of us.
- TexasKoz, on 04/09/2009, -59/+115I call it like I see it....AMNESTY! F-You very much Mr. President.
- Hetman, on 04/09/2009, -12/+62I do not necessarily have a problem with amnesty. The amount of money it would cost to find these illegals and exdradite them would be way more than allowing them amnesty and I would rather them be in the system paying taxes than doing it illegally. The problem I have is that it would not slow the influx of illegal immigrants into the country. This would just cause us to have to give amnesty to another 20 million in 10 years. The government as much as everyone hates to say it, really just needs to regulate employeers here in America. Make the fines so high that if you hire illegals you will be put out of business. This will stop illegals from being able to get jobs. If they cannot get jobs then there is no need for them to come to America. We could also end the war on drugs, so that mexican drug cartells do not have a reason to enter America, because there trade would be considered not worth the cost.
- Calamier, on 04/09/2009, -15/+63I'm so sick of the "who will pick our vegetables and clean our toilets argument" - Let me introduce you to 26 MILLION american citizens who are currently drawing unemployment (meaning they are ready and able to do this work)
If we deport all 20 million illegals, we still have 6 million more jobs to find. Now is NOT the time to be giving our jobs to anyone, even the fruit picking, toilet cleaning ones.

- emazur, on 04/09/2009, -41/+79Take a look at these and tell me you think granting amnesty to illegals is a swell idea:

- BRod1, on 04/09/2009, -16/+46Pursuing this agenda during a recession could very well undermine a lot of the goodwill Obama has with a lot independents and blue collar Democrats. Even during more prosperous economic times, such a move would be politically risky. Right now, it's going to be hard to convince the American public that the best course of action is to add more workers to legitimately compete in an already tight job market.
Of course, there's not a lot of detail in the plans at the moment, but I think it's safe to say that no form of amnesty is going to work to the benefit of the country. The last time anything close to amnesty happened, illegal immigration rates increased dramatically, in no small part due to the message it sends: come here illegally, and you will eventually be rewarded for disregarding the law. Apparently, though, we don't learn from history. - stevene, on 04/09/2009, -14/+43When the kids are of age, they can come back if they like? The whole "born here, you're legal" thing is BS. You should have to have legal parents.
- DigitAl56K, on 04/10/2009, -6/+35Legal aliens have to go through all kind of processes and meet strict criteria just to be here, and it's limit stay under very specific conditions. Illegal aliens? Oh, they get amnesty.
What.. the.. *****.. - Welshman007, on 04/09/2009, -19/+46Americans overwhelmingly oppose immigration reform that includes amnesty. Remember John McCain's proposal that he had to back off of due to public outrage? Obama will be the recipient of this outrage if he pushes this through.
- peacelvr, on 04/09/2009, -8/+35Yes, Reagan did do that, on the condition (from the democrat controlled congress) that the border would be closed afterward. Of course it wasn't so Reagan's mistake just made the US a magnet for more illegal immigration.
Ellis Island was not an open border, there were medical checks, records kept and you had to prove you had a skill that would help the US. Those who did not pass were sent back to their home countries. - scoottie, on 04/10/2009, -5/+31Those that came thru Ellis island did it LEGALLY, thats the key word here. They didnt break the law coming here
- atomicpoet, on 04/09/2009, -11/+35It's about time. Martians should not be second class citizens.
- ahens, on 04/09/2009, -11/+35All the while thousands of highly skilled legal immigrants who pay millions in taxes and abide by every ***** law and contribute to the society in positive way keep waiting for a green card for years and years together.
Please all you legal law abiding skilled immigrants go home and stay there. We need more unskilled illegals who don't pay any taxes. Thank you for your service. - peacelvr, on 04/09/2009, -7/+30Almost buried as inaccurate- there are at least 20 million illegal immigrants in the us.
- cjw10, on 04/10/2009, -9/+32Cool nalguita, our ancestors came here LEGALLY! Thanks for playing the game.
- heybigjohn, on 04/10/2009, -3/+23It would not be necessary to remove anyone. If there is strict enforcement against the corporations and businesses that exploit cheap illegal alien labor, then there will be no jobs for them here and the majority will return to their home countries. It will be self-deportation.
- nalguita, on 04/10/2009, -21/+40I'm surprised you're being dugg up, it just shows how vastly uniformed and slightly ignorant people are to this situation. It's so easy to say YEA! ROUND EM UP AND KICK EM OUT! Maybe deep down you know this and just can't see past your single-mindedness, but here's a newsflash; they're here. All of them, illegal or legal, they're here to stay because they are so finely knitted into the machine that is America that you just can't remove them. Although I do agree that them breaking our laws is incorrect, simply throwing a big patriotic statement like yours around is ignorant. You need to understand and maybe appreciate the impact and impression these 12-20 million illegals make in this country. I think the solution to this is beyond your mental capabilities and anyone else who feels like you do. Digg me down. You know I'm right.
- manstein01, on 04/10/2009, -1/+19And what happened to them...??
- zeitgueist, on 04/09/2009, -19/+37BTW Reagan supported amnesty for about 3 million immigrants I believe.
And most of the people wining in this thread have relatives that came through Ellis Island, through an essentially open border. - MrCheerios, on 04/10/2009, -0/+17This upsets me as an immigrant. It cost my family thousands of dollars and nearly 15 years of legal processes to obtain citizenship. An uncle of mine from France with a PhD has been going through that same process to get his family here. He hasn't even been able to set foot in the country yet. Work visas and sponsors, why should we have even bothered?
This will encourage more people to avoid the legal process, walk right across the border, and wait it out. - curtisag, on 04/10/2009, -3/+19His plans are much more long term than 2012. With 12 million more voters in the future, it means perpetual Democratic control of Government for the next 30 years.
- cjw10, on 04/10/2009, -10/+26So we should reward those that break the law?
Let's just let everyone on death row go free because it would cost more to put them to death than to let them free and pay taxes! /s - frcc, on 04/10/2009, -4/+20North American Union
- mjw2025, on 04/10/2009, -4/+20Who performed those jobs before the illegals?
- Y0tsuya, on 04/10/2009, -4/+19They should go to the back of the line and let the legal applicants come in first. We want doctors and engineers to come here. We don't need more low-skilled workers since we're already graduating them at record rates. The law should be upheld. Leave the touch-feely stuff for a minimal number of special cases.
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -6/+21No - That's 12 million more welfare recipients, and obama voters.
- Awsomo6, on 04/10/2009, -6/+20He should remove the social programs that they are here for and then open the border completely. Illegals won't come here if they aren't getting anything more for free
- JayTee44, on 04/10/2009, -0/+14the present wave of immigration totally dwarfs any other in american history.... are you aware of that? Are you going to foot the bill for this?
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -0/+14Who said they all needed to be deported at once? Just deport enough to make the illegal alien immigration rate slightly negative and over time they'll all be deported. It would be gradual and controllable.
I drive by a park every morning. There is a police station next to the park. Every morning there are about 50 illegals in the sanctuary city's park waiting to be picked up. The American poor are so screwed.
Illegal alien bailout. - scarz99, on 04/10/2009, -10/+24We're *****.
- curtisag, on 04/10/2009, -9/+22Change the constitution. If you are born to an illegal, you are also illegal. There is no such thing as a native American. The indians moved here through the Alaskan ice bridge from Asia. We all came here from somewhere.
- bugwayji, on 04/10/2009, -13/+26 Now, now. North American Indians let millions into the country.
- scoottie, on 04/10/2009, -6/+19I think they are counting only the ones in California
- HonestAbeinator, on 04/10/2009, -9/+22DEY TUK ARR JERBS!
- curtisag, on 04/10/2009, -3/+16If I get lucky and win a million dollars in the lotto, I'm not obligated to give you a damn thing. The people that built this country into what it is today deserve the right to determine who can enter. It's not about being better, it's about preserving what we have. There is no logical reason to allow millions of poor into this country when we already have a massive problem with poverty.
- UbIwerks, on 04/10/2009, -0/+12@ Sugarazor
THAT'S ILLEGAL!
Dude, seriously. I'm trying to legally immigrate to the states right now (wife's American), but guess what? I need to STAY IN CANADA while the process runs its course! Those are the rules that you sign when your fill out your application. Black and White. I play by them. My wife plays by them. - TheAllBeing, on 04/10/2009, -17/+29Screw the illegal immigrants. They broke the law, so they should be deported. And all those pot smokers should stay locked up. And all the 3-time offenders had their chance and should stay in there for life. And those darkies that drank from the Whites Only fountain, they should know better. Law is law, and that's final. And we must enforce it, no matter how much it costs. Don't tell me we should pick our battles.
- curtisag, on 04/10/2009, -1/+13Their impact is largely to decrease the average wage for low-skilled work in this country. We already had lots of poverty before the massive immigration from Latin America. There would be millions of poor Americans who would be happy to cut your lawn if there weren't so many people who were willing to work for almost nothing. Ironically, it is the left wing which wants to encourage illegal immigration, but the poor are hurt the most by massive amounts of illegal immigration. It is propaganda that Americans are not willing to cut lawns or harvest crops. And it's big business that exploits this slave labor.
- deff, on 04/10/2009, -0/+12*****, I've been out of work for 2 months, I'd jump at the chance to clean a toilet. I WANT TO ***** WORK!!!
- beatitlikeacop, on 04/10/2009, -16/+28Kick them the ***** out too.
I'm tired all of this politically correct *****. - PacoLugi, on 04/10/2009, -0/+12These 12 million+ people have shown that they have no respect for the laws of the United States. They should all go home and be replaced with people who have registered to enter the U.S. legally. T
- Striker101, on 04/09/2009, -4/+15Someone tell me please, how long has illegal immigration been going on, "with tacit permission", I mean?
For however long that be, there should the blame lie. - heatherwight, on 04/09/2009, -26/+37Geez. Well, thanks for starting my day with a bummer. This will be added to my "Daily Handpicked Headlines" for www.dailyuprising.com
- charlie6969, on 04/10/2009, -0/+11"We want to keep illegal immigrants families together."
Well, I would like to keep American families together too, but I don't see any politicians worrying about that. Families get broken up when Americans go to jail for bad checks, having a joint and a lot of other non-violent offenses. I don't hear a lot of crying about them.
I hear condescension about them........ - Logrusmage, on 04/10/2009, -1/+12Ah the race card. I thought we'd at least get to the hidden comments before it'd be pulled!
And if Canadiens only spoke French, were mostly unskilled laborers, and crossed the border illegally in massive numbers, you bet your ass we'd be concerned! - inactive, on 04/10/2009, -1/+12But the immigrants who came through Ellis Island didn't get free medicaid, public school education for their kids or mortgage loans either.
