- theaceoffire, on 03/23/2008, -20/+343I find it strange that a candidate can start a "Why I should be a president" by complimenting his opponent.
Thank you, Barack Obama. - wild, on 03/23/2008, -8/+282It will be a shame if this man doesn't make it into office.
- JoJoMoMo, on 03/23/2008, -10/+250Hillary lacks Obama's wisdom and integrity.
- cr4ft, on 03/23/2008, -8/+203Notice how, after being asked the questions, answers it by telling everyone why they should vote for him? As opposed to the other two idiots who make themselves look better by trying to make their opponents look worse.
- bgrah449, on 03/23/2008, -6/+180God DAMN, this guy comes off as ridiculously sane.
- senorcool, on 03/23/2008, -3/+156He should have just put up this picture:
http://imgs.xkcd.com/misc/coolest-est.jpg - RSS14, on 03/23/2008, -3/+140I am Canadian, and I hope this guy wins. I don't know why I care so much, but I don't want America to fall because of idiots like Bush and Hillary.
Obama '08 - tomlasusa, on 03/23/2008, -9/+122Someone asked in another thread "Why is Digg nothing but Obama stuff lately?"
Maybe, just maybe, so many of actually feel like we can stand up for a politician -- because one of them is finally standing up for us. - Amazetbm, on 03/23/2008, -3/+93He's taking the higher ground. "My opponent may be good, but I'm better and here's why..." is a better start than, "My opponent ain't *****, here's why."
- chrissku, on 03/23/2008, -13/+103You couldn't pay me to vote for Hillary Rotten Clinton.
- RickHavoc, on 03/23/2008, -2/+79Alright I looked it up. Obama doesn't take money from PACs and federal lobbyists. When asked about state lobbyists he didn't avoid the question as the other candidates often do. He took the time to give a full explanation.
http://tinyurl.com/29odwv - bicyclethief, on 03/23/2008, -5/+81Because Barack isn't a dumbass traitor like Clinton who stabs her own party in the back in announcing that only she and McCain are the only ones who've passed some fictitious Commander in Chief threshold.
- melek, on 03/23/2008, -3/+67Thank you for your Unsubstantiated FUD.
Its impossible to know if Obama is a "closet racist", but god knows he doesn't vote, talk, or act that way. "Naive" my ass, you're just looking to spit hate. - renagadex2, on 03/23/2008, -5/+61He's a smart dude.
- Slipkey, on 03/23/2008, -0/+46People have made comments about how Barrack seems to "stutter" when answering questions directly. They don't get the fact that what they are hearing is a open, impromptu answer to a question. I've heard him answer that question before and he never falls back to the same "talking points." He always takes each question as if it's the first time it's been asked. Unscripted, he still hits them out of the park.
Contrast that with the typical disaster that is a G.W. press conference... - FcukAllYall, on 03/23/2008, -3/+47U had me at Hello.....
- benintn, on 03/23/2008, -5/+47well, since he's running for federal office, I'm not sure what the concern would be. However, just for clarity, why don't you supply a link so we can "look it up?"
- atdigg, on 03/23/2008, -4/+43Republicans ruled for 7 years on a policy of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, I don't think this will work in the election anymore, people get tired of this *****.
- Easty, on 03/23/2008, -5/+43Black father, white mother, Indonesian step-sister. If that's not a background for racial prejudice and intolerance I don't know what is!
- melek, on 03/23/2008, -4/+41Your right. The statement is not completely accurate. Obama accepts money from lobbyists.
But, as the campaign finance staff identify lobbyists, the money is returned. From the factcheck article (from a year ago) you cited:
"The campaign says it is making a "best effort" to stay away from tainted money. 'It isn’t a perfect solution to the problem and it isn’t even a perfect symbol,' spokesman Burton has said."
Doing a hell of a lot more than others, i tell you that. I believe the Obama would, if it were in his power, take NO money from lobbyists to strengthen his rhetoric, but it simply isn't possible to be perfect in this regard.
Hows cherry picking going by the way? Sparse yield, I know. - theaceoffire, on 03/23/2008, -1/+36Notice how he managed to get through that without suggesting that McCain would be better than Hillary?
Even managed to make Hillary look better? - tjlyttle, on 03/23/2008, -1/+29I love how conservative types keep bringing up the fact that obama didn't disown his pastor. That fact actually gives me more respect for the guy. I want a president who would be willing to stand up for his friends and family even when they make mistakes. Do you really want a president who will disown their friends and family just to be in power? If thats the case, vote for hillary
- thejimmyo, on 03/23/2008, -2/+30"Nevertheless, Obama accepts money from lobbyists’ spouses and other family members, their partners at the law firms where they work if the partners aren’t registered to lobby, senior executives at companies that hire lobbyists, and state-level lobbyists."
1. Lobbyists' spouses are not lobbyists.
2. These law firms' partners are not themselves lobbyists. They don't represent the same interests and don't present a conflict of interest. The only way to present an actual conflict of interests here is for the actual lobbyist to ask his co-worker to donate money to a political campaign on his behalf (which is illegal) and then alert the candidate in question of this illegal transaction, asking or implying that he should get a favor in return. This, of course, is slightly ridiculous.
3. "Senior executives at companies that hire lobbyists" are not lobbyists.
4. "State-level lobbyists" are indeed "lobbyists," but you miss an important point: Obama is running for FEDERAL office, and thus this presents no conflict of interest. STATE level lobbyists are charged with the task of asking STATE level governments (not FEDERAL) for money and favors. There is a big difference here. - theaceoffire, on 03/23/2008, -1/+28Its ok, she calls that "experience".
- aliengoods, on 03/23/2008, -0/+21It's not fictitious. I passed it the other day in WoW.
- stoph009, on 03/23/2008, -0/+21Yes
- typographics, on 03/23/2008, -2/+22 * Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006
* The 2007 Government Ethics Bill
* The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act
* The 2007 Government Ethics Bill
Obama is competent. He is prepared. And experience doesn't mean anything. Most of the politicians in Washington are experienced, and they are doing a horrible job. Experience is worthless if you don't possess good judgment, which Obama shows on a daily basis. - hackiavelli, on 03/23/2008, -1/+20"Senator Clinton all too often over the last five years in foreign policy debates has calibrated her responses based on politics instead of good judgement."
Exactly. If 90% of Americans wanted to invade Iran tomorrow you'd better believe she'd do it. - HedwigDies, on 03/23/2008, -10/+28Hillary Clinton blows. She needs to exit the race, but to quote Maureen Dowd, Clinton like the terminator, will keep pushing on "unless every circuit is out, she’ll regenerate enough to claw her way out of the grave, crawl through the Rezko Memorial Lawn and up Obama’s wall, hurl her torso into the house"
That whore. - Brad324, on 03/23/2008, -0/+17because let's face it. If America isn't the superpower - someone else is. And it sure as hell isn't going to be us in Canada. Also - they're by far our largest trade partners. Our economies are linked very closely.
- Lurline, on 03/23/2008, -3/+19Bringing up someone's racism to talk about the issues and reality of white racism does not make one racist.
- SpinningHead, on 03/23/2008, -1/+17I could get used to more politicians like this.
- SupaFurry, on 03/23/2008, -2/+18Ahhhh piss off you racist dick
- fani, on 03/23/2008, -12/+28I get goosebumps every time I hear Barrack Obama. It feels like an honor just to listen to him....
His race speech has elevated him far above any other candidate. He's now a true people-person. After the speech, I just wanted to hug people and work with them to do something good for our country... I am inspired.
Imagine the change he will bring when in Washington.
And also, finally, he's got a good standing even internationally, so he's really an all-rounder. - Raoulduke212, on 03/23/2008, -0/+15"She has calibrated her responses based on politics, instead of good judgment...that's part of what happened in iraq"
Exactly - aliengoods, on 03/23/2008, -0/+15You think that is scary? You should take a look at the anti-Obama neo-conservativism.
- theaceoffire, on 03/23/2008, -2/+17Dude, I hate to tell you, but he is allowed to repeat himself.
Especially if he is giving "bullet points" of his past actions/present thoughts/future goals. - Skitals, on 03/23/2008, -4/+18I don't think it could be said any better. Well done, Obama.
- dirigibleduck, on 03/23/2008, -2/+15I saw him speak on this same day in Eugene. It was pretty mind-blowing, even for someone like me who isn't totally gung-ho about him (although I like him best). Seeing him in person really convinced me that he's the real deal, and he doesn't just tailor his speeches for the sound-bite-savvy media. I think I'm really ready to trust him in the Oval Office.
- coollettuce, on 03/23/2008, -3/+16I will be fed up with politics if he doesn't. Canada > McCain/Hillary in Office
- aidave, on 03/23/2008, -5/+18Racist.
- Sean42, on 03/23/2008, -0/+12You are a republican lecturing democrats on competency in our elected leader?
From the same folks who elected george?
Ahhh, the beautiful sweet smell of irony. - vat0r, on 03/23/2008, -1/+13Just the fact that you have at least four racist and ignorant remarks in this thread shows just how scared you GOP fan boys are of Barack Obama. Personally I think it is people like you who have not heard everything Rev. Wright has had to say. I also find it ironic that you accuse the man of infecting the younger generation with racial injections while you are here on digg doing that very thing. Go away.
- Shiftgood, on 03/23/2008, -1/+13shhh adults are talking.. why dont you and jimmy go into the other room and play with your new nintendo video ok? ill let you know when dinner is ready.
- rumorsofdemise, on 03/23/2008, -1/+13"Obama will do for America's political system what OJ did for America's judicial system."
what is that, win because of how badly the other side ***** everything up? - Rohhob, on 03/23/2008, -1/+12Seriously RTFA
"Mr. Obama cast 4,000 votes in the Illinois Senate and used the present vote to protest bills that he believed had been drafted unconstitutionally or as part of a broader legislative strategy."
"He voted “present,” effectively sidestepping the issue, an option he invoked nearly 130 times as a state senator."
Please think for yourself before voting and not just what the news tells you. - tjlyttle, on 03/23/2008, -2/+13your probably right, better vote for John McCain who would ONLY promote the interest of white people...
- rsek, on 03/23/2008, -4/+15he is going to make hillary cry.
- jbdobd, on 03/23/2008, -7/+18wow, that kind of parsing is strikingly Clintonian. Surely you can make a better case than that??
- tidu, on 03/23/2008, -0/+10Damn MSM not covering those Barack Helicopter stories
