- ordig, on 07/03/2008, -6/+73I'll volunteer when my phone company quits spying on me.
http://digg.com/politics/Obama_Voters_Protest_His_ ... - inactive, on 07/03/2008, -25/+77Wow, how original!
"In his January 2002 State of the Union Address, President George W. Bush called on all Americans to dedicate at least two years—the equivalent of 4,000 hours—in service to their communities, their country and the world. Bush's USA Freedom Corps works to strengthen the non-profit sector, recognize volunteers, and help connect individuals with volunteer opportunities."
So he's not just another politician right? - brad3378, on 07/04/2008, -4/+51In other words, we need volunteers because our government is going bankrupt.
With a national debt of $31,142.33 per citizen, it is clear that we can no longer afford big government.
http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/ - GhostyBoy, on 07/03/2008, -16/+62Fake change.
- LansingSterling, on 07/04/2008, -3/+49I'll do my part when congress begin to do theirs and bring back the old US
- odinfire, on 07/04/2008, -6/+42Maybe Obama could volunteer some of his millions instead of seeking discounts on his mortgage and asking low income people that already work 13 hours a day to volunteer their time.
- brjohnson789, on 07/03/2008, -11/+46It should be pretty clear where this is going. More and more rhetoric for people to 'serve' their country. Then, they'll start creating 'benefits' for you to 'volunteer', like a better college loan or some garbage. They'll make more and more benefits available, while at the same time the costs they offer benefits for get so outrageously expensive that unless you are pretty wealthy you basically need to 'volunteer' a couple years of your life to have any chance at paying for college etc.
- bxblox, on 07/04/2008, -5/+38Obama needs to step up and stop supporting unconstitutional bills... Go volunteer yourself...
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -11/+41When you decide to step up and uphold the Constitution, I will pay heed to your condescending *****.
Until then Obama, take you anti-Constitutional ideology over to your kind of folks at Fox News. - InetRoadkill, on 07/04/2008, -4/+31Americans ask Obama to step up and lead the charge against fascism by taking charge of the senate democrats and working to defeat the FISA bill in its current form. Sitting on one's ass while criminals run roughshod over the constitution and saying it's the best we can hope for is not acceptable.
His lack of leadership in sustaining the FISA filibuster is unforgivable. Especially for a candidate running on a change platform. - ericjohnson0, on 07/04/2008, -9/+31Yeah. He wants other people to 'volunteer.' Meanwhile, he's getting the same, lucrative deals on financing that Dodd and others got.
Obama and Mr. Clean and the Beacon of Hope?
Hardly...

In addition, I don't want to hear about 'noble aspirations' from a guy who chooses his friends so poorly.
http://thesaloon.net/blog/_archives/2008/6/6/37320 ... - Badandy127, on 07/04/2008, -6/+27Sound familiar?
*cough*"A Thousand Points of Light*cough*
We don't need this emotional crap emphasizing these softie attitudes. We need to be fiscally responsible and strengthen our dollar so we won't continue to be in this huge whole. - inactive, on 07/04/2008, -7/+27Yeah well maybe I would volunteer for Obama except I NEED MEDICAL HELP BECAUSE HE STABBED ME IN THE BACK ON FISA! HE'S JUST LIKE BUSH! Seriously someone call 911--the nation has been hijacked.
- manningbowl135, on 07/04/2008, -7/+25Pass.
Digg me down. But if you do, volunteer. - inactive, on 07/04/2008, -2/+19I would volunteer Obama, but if I do, I might not get elected as class President, I know I originally said I'd volunteer to clean up the cafeteria, but now that it's down to just two kids, with not much time left, I've decided to do the opposite of what I said I would, in hopes of getting the "anti-volunteer" vote, ya know, for the kids who bring their lunch from home. I'm sure that my original supporters understand, I'm going back on what I said to WIN, don't you see?
/s - MikeFallopian, on 07/04/2008, -4/+21Faith, values, patriotism and service - did Obama just go back in time and win the 2000 Republican nomination?
- Joe_rigby, on 07/04/2008, -5/+23I would be aghast by some of the comments here, but that was before Obama pledged to increase funding from the GOVERNMENT to FAITH-based initiatives, a practice started by Bush.
What the hell, man? - brad3378, on 07/05/2008, -0/+16Obama's plan is to pay up to $4000 towards tuition for students willing to perform 100 hours of community service. $40 per hour tax free ............sorta.
Citizens will eventually pay that money back in the form of taxes (whether or not you go to college)
So basically you'll be working for your money twice.....
Once when you perform the community service project and
again when you join the workforce and pay higher taxes.
Hopefully the community service projects will be used as an efficient replacement for bloated government employees and programs. And hopefully colleges won't exploit students for more tuition now that they have a new source of funding. - GregIsLegend, on 07/05/2008, -10/+25***** McCain, ***** Obama, ***** everyone running for president right now.
When Obama sold us and our privacy out, he made it clear that it's a dog eat dog world and no matter who you vote for, you're going to get the same end result with a slightly varied practice leading up to it.
I am more resentful toward obama than I am McCain. I never believed in McCain, but Obama gave me hope, and then it turns out his promises to uphold the constitution and restore our civil liberties were just lies. It was crushing. So let me reitterate.
***** Barack Obama. - inactive, on 07/05/2008, -2/+17The Obama-Digg honeymoon is officially over.
- rz8472, on 07/05/2008, -0/+15Let's make a deal. We'll start volunteering for the government when the government volunteers to work for us rather than the special interests.
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -9/+23...whoa, Whoa! WHOA! Nobody said anything about me needing to actually do ANYTHING for change to occur!
I knew it! He's just like the rest of 'em! - barc0001, on 07/04/2008, -7/+20Hang on... you admire someone who is doing the wrong thing because they refuse to change their mind about doing the wrong thing? You admire Ted Bundy for never wavering on his "death to women" position as well?
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -2/+15He also said that he will put a 5 year hold on the next NASA space ship project Constellation. He said he does not believe in space exploration.
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/constellation/ma ... - dball48, on 07/04/2008, -7/+19Americans ask obama to stop being such a tool.
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -13/+25***** YOU Obama, stop trying to be a black JFK. All you are is just another corporate political tool that can be bought and controlled by big business and oil companies. Just look at your pitiful voting record. You actions speak louder than your words.
- ericdano, on 07/04/2008, -3/+13Maybe as soon as the Senate and Congress actually get off their asses and do something. Control Gas prices! It is insane that NO ONE has stepped up and said "Whoa" and halted this raping that is going on. Geeze, like 6 months ago it was $1.50 cheaper.
What exactly has this Democratic Congress done? Nothing. Since they have been in, nothing has happened. In fact, the only stuff that has happened is BAD stuff.
Volunteer. Yeah. NOT! - Bkaufman, on 07/05/2008, -13/+23It proves that Obama's "change" platform is a sham. It is a bunch of Socialist ideas that have already been tried before (see Great Society).
- RSS14, on 07/04/2008, -5/+14He had so much potential, it's a shame.
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -7/+15Volunteerism DOES NOT pay my bills.
- barc0001, on 07/04/2008, -6/+13McCain is an opportunistic slimeball. I used to admire him right up until what happened in 2000. He got swift-boated BY HIS OWN PARTY and instead of fighting off the outrageous attacks, just bent over for the Republican party. Anyone with a shred of moral fiber would have told the party to go piss into the wind, but instead McCain played the good little soldier, hoping for scraps when Bush was done with the plate in 2008...
- ozydingo, on 07/05/2008, -9/+17I don't get your point. Because another politician has done it before, he can't do it without being criticized? Was it wrong of him to ask willing Americans to volunteer for public service? Does it in some way prove that he's just like every other politician?
- Badandy127, on 07/04/2008, -1/+9Ugghh.
"hole"
My bad. - Joe_rigby, on 07/04/2008, -2/+10I think McCain is ridiculous, he wants to cut the education budget to help fund NASA, and I could understand how things are tight budget-wise right now, and why Obama might be a little hesitant to fund a huge NASA outfitting.
However, I do not understand how he can (even if he's just saying it to draw in the right-wing voters) say with a clear-conscience that the separation of church and state would not be further injured by increasing this type of funding.
I regret voting for Obama, until he further clarifies his positions, however I will not vote for McCain because he's an idiot.
Rock and a hard place. - TheRedSp4de, on 07/04/2008, -6/+13Lower taxes and donations and volunteering would probably go up.
- InetRoadkill, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7It's not Obama's request for volunteers that's soured the milk. It's his failure to defend the constitution and his eagerness to pander to special interests like every other politician that's poisoned the well. It looks like the only substance to his idea of change is in name only. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
- iamnotrich, on 07/05/2008, -3/+10wow diggers are waking up..
- TheRedSp4de, on 07/04/2008, -0/+7Well, perhaps, just perhaps not all diggers are Obama fans and maybe those are the ones posting...?
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -8/+15Ooooobama, ***** you.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -9/+16Part of Obama's plan sounds like this:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=RuRJkemxomw
Hopefully he'll release the details soon and let us know whether his plan includes stylish uniforms too. - brad3378, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6Do you know what happened when the Mortgage industry flooded the market with cheap interest rates? People started charging more for their homes because they knew others could afford to borrow more.
If you're a student don't let the same thing happen to your tuition rates.
Mark my words. If students have more money in the form of scholarships, savings, grants, etc., Colleges will raise tuition rates to maximize profits.
In other words, be careful what you wish for. - synapz, on 07/05/2008, -1/+7Erm... your other points aside, how exactly do you want our government to "control" gas prices? And if you think government can just control prices so that they're what you want them to be, why stop at gas? Why not control the price of *everything*? Why not drop the price of everything, so that everything is cheap for everyone? Right? Right?
*sigh* - blorc, on 07/04/2008, -10/+16Obama: I want YOU... to leech off the government.
- Aidje, on 07/04/2008, -1/+7You should look up the word "volunteer."
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -4/+10What is there no NASCAR on today or something?
- netsql, on 07/05/2008, -2/+8First he ***** on bill of rights that is there to protect the middle class, then.. (sorry I did not hear what he wants from me after that 1st part).
- hiikeeba, on 07/05/2008, -1/+7Ah! You mean he's a POLITICIAN! Why didn't you just say so?
- ThePantsParty, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6You seem to have somehow gotten the impression Obama doesn't want the FISA bill to pass....
- NelsonR, on 07/04/2008, -2/+7How about reversing this argument by having politicians living and preaching with strength of character. Lets add morals, ethics and real humanity. How many politicians can you think of that hasn't reversed course to satiate the electorate while failing to keep to their own values?
Obama is one crumb in a loaf of bread that orates for votes without keeping the values once preached. I find him a politico like McCain, both atrocious and wrong for America.
Gosh, as a dreamer I must come back to earth and realize, humans do not convert easily. It's all about their own power while satiating those followers among them. - inactive, on 07/04/2008, -1/+6When you decide to take the time to educate yourself with current events please come back and respond.
