- mattmccarty, on 10/24/2008, -8/+99As a Georgian and a young Democrat starting Monday morning we will start a massive grass roots movement to get people ready and excited to vote for Obama. We will be walking through our small towns and spreading the world. On Thursday we have a debate at my college with the Republicans and we plan on getting a few more votes that day.
If you also live in Georgia and would like to get involved please feel free to talk to me on here!
LETS DO IT GEORGIA!!! - paintgrl, on 10/24/2008, -10/+92I would love to see sweet Georgia go blue!!

Vote for(D) JIM MARTIN (senate race).....get Saxby Chambliss out of there...he is a horrible Senator!!!! Just vote for all your democrats on the ballot.....send a message to the failed republican leadership!
- booksnmore4you, on 10/24/2008, -6/+74Holy Peaches!!!
- enantiodromia, on 10/25/2008, -3/+63oops, you revered the order
McCain '08, that would suck - inactive, on 10/24/2008, -11/+70Vote for Jim Martin for senate seat!!!!! Saxby Chambliss is a horrible senator and he smeared former Georgia senator Max Cleeland who is a Vietnam vet who served honorably and because of his service is in a wheelchair. Guess what the Republicans did to him....they put up pictures of Osama Bin Laden next to his picture(they haven't changed their vile tactics have they) and smeared him as if he wasn't patriotic...are you kidding me??? Get Chambliss out of there!!!!! Vote for Jim Martin, Vote for Obama/Biden and vote for all the other democrats on your ballot....we need people who will help Senator Obama govern and we need to send a message of "thanks but no thanks" (thanks Sarah Palin for that phrase..lol) to the FAILED REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP!!!! DEMOCRATS '08!!!
- shinxy, on 10/24/2008, -8/+53GOTV Georgia! Big ups to the dirty south!
- utopianlady, on 10/24/2008, -5/+46YWC Georgia!!!!
- profgiles, on 10/24/2008, -3/+39Yes, Barr could be a spoiler in "deep red" states - taking votes from those extremists who think McCain is "too liberal."
- NuttyAvatar, on 10/24/2008, -7/+42How come?
Barack Obama epitomizes the American Dream.. an American Dream where anything is possible... by an ordinary man... and people still have faith in this belief.. they see that in Obama
Thats why
OB'08 - MilitantMarker, on 10/24/2008, -3/+29I think Barr snags 5% of the vote.
- Depthfunction, on 10/25/2008, -6/+32Any former Confederate state that votes for Obama should be congratulated. We've come a long way as a country.
- sugarazor, on 10/25/2008, -2/+24Yeah, if Obama wins Georgia, my jaw will hit the floor. If Obama wins Alabama, I'll run naked through the streets and post it on YouTube.
But still, even if Obama doesn't win GA, it's still something of note that it's that close. Bush won that state by 17 points in 2004, the race being within five points there speaks volumes about Obama's ground game. - peestandingup, on 10/25/2008, -2/+20Next up, Texas! Right??
Yeah, who the ***** am I trying to kid. I think if the GOP nominated an actual turd, Texans would still vote for it. - diggitupyall, on 10/25/2008, -1/+18thats the most ignorant thing i've heard in a while
- duckley, on 10/25/2008, -5/+21Today I read about the vile email sent out by Penn. Republicans. Of all the many despicable and hateful things that McCain and the Republicans have done in the last year, this is THE WORST and most Obscene tactic I have ever witness in 40 years of watching politics closely.
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/24/penn ...
I implore you to raise your voice, and the voices of others, against this kind of vile and truly evil propoganda. - oldugly2, on 10/24/2008, -11/+27hmmmm... ya know what...
what about the morale factor?
What if the obama voters show up at 99% strength and the mccain voters are saying ahhh screw it he will win Georgia so it doesn't matter if I vote and show up at only 70%??
then landslide GA obama no?
I'm going to start talking to my neihbors and seeing I I can get a few of them to depressed to vote....
I have given up on getting the old bigots to smarten up, maybe this can work...
there may be more then one way to skin and old bigot :) - nycjap, on 10/25/2008, -3/+18http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/
Don't get over-confident. InsiderAdvantage is only one poll, and it only shows Obama up by 1. There are two other polls within the last week, both showing McCain up more than that, and four other polls within the last two weeks, all showing McCain leading in GA.
538 is an excellent poll aggregating and tracking site. Take a look at all of the state-by-state polls along the right column. GA still shows as likely McCain.
If you're in GA, continue campaigning and VOTE! If you are in another state, don't ease up, thinking this is going to be a cakewalk.
Obama/Biden 2008 - langdonalger, on 10/25/2008, -1/+16that factor could work in reverse as easily. "oh wow, obama is winning georgia? he's gonna win for sure without me. i'll just stay home."
- darkciti2, on 10/25/2008, -2/+15I love GA and I couldn't agree more. We have a great state (Mountains, Beaches, etc) and a great climate most of the year. GA is a wonderful place to live. Atlanta is the like a young hybrid of Los Angeles (climate) coupled with Silicon Valley progressivism.
If we could rout the crazies, it would be ideal.
Blue Georgia '08 - pinstripewizard, on 10/25/2008, -3/+16Edit:
"Dumb, dumb, dumb McCain!" - SpankyBojangles, on 10/25/2008, -4/+1735.4% of GA's early voters are black, which outpaces the article's projection of 31%. And CNN is projecting the black vote is 97% for Obama, also more than the projection. It could very well happen. Especially if the "black man attacked me hoax" prompts an even stronger turnout for Obama by people (of all races) fed up with the seeds of division that McCain's campaign has sown.
http://elections.gmu.edu/early_vote_2008.html - malvado, on 10/25/2008, -1/+14Not even remotely close.
BTW, Atlanta and New Orleans are not states. - enantiodromia, on 10/25/2008, -2/+15so black people can't be religious whack jobs too?
- diggitupyall, on 10/25/2008, -1/+13I stood in line 4 hours today to vote in ga, not sure its that drastic for obama where I live, but there were a suprising number of voters out...all the workers say its been the busiest election they could remember...so who knows whats going to happen. I dont think I would say its Obama in the lead already though, just dont see that happening w/ all the conservative christians in GA
- TheUnionBlood, on 10/25/2008, -3/+13Polls showed Obama leading Clinton an average of 18 points going into the primary. He ended up winning by 35 points. I don't think you can underestimate Georgia.
- Eaglehorn, on 10/25/2008, -6/+16OBAMA/BIDEN '08 !!!!!
McCain.. it's time to resign, buddy. - blinkgreen, on 10/25/2008, -3/+12Unfortunately, it probably won't happen. Bush won by 16% in 2004. But, one can only hope. Clinton did take the state in 1992.
Still, if Obama doesn't win Georgia, it would be great if it will be really close and get the right a little nervous. - FreddieD, on 10/25/2008, -4/+13I'm definitely an Obama supporter, but winning Georgia is not going to happen.
- darkciti2, on 10/25/2008, -2/+10What affluent neighborhood are you talking about?
In 2004, Dekalb and Fulton County (2 largest in the state, Atlanta) both voted for Democrats. You give rural blue collar workers $4 gallon gasoline, and you'll be surprised how quickly they realized how the Republicans screwed them.
Blue Georgia '08 ! - str1fe, on 10/25/2008, -0/+8But they have for the past 3 elections...
- Mejari, on 10/25/2008, -0/+8I could spend time detailing the lack of connections between Obama and the illegal activities committed by several individuals, or that it's acorn that should be pissed since they paid these people to collect voter registrations and got shafted by greedy/desperate employees, or the fact that voter registration fraud is nowhere near as serious as voter fraud, or the incredibly small percentage (much much less than 1) of voter registration fraud that actually turns into fraudulent votes, or the incredible hubris of accusing Obama supporters of committing crimes when it is the McCain/Palin crowd that yell "Terrorist! Kill Him!" and cut themselves to try and make Obama look bad, but it's easier just to bury you and call you stupid.
Stupid. - steger, on 10/25/2008, -3/+10Im glad the Empire State of the South and my home state is finally showing that it isn't like the other southern states.
- gobbleplex, on 10/25/2008, -0/+7I think that would just make them more assertive in their desire to vote against him, honestly.
- frygar, on 10/25/2008, -0/+7It's not over until it's over. Remeber that voter apathy is essentially what got us four more years with W.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+7Yet would be almost infinitely more comfortable than bricks.
- MrSquirrel, on 10/25/2008, -2/+8McCain's and Palin's negative campaigning has revolted so many people, that they now find themselves having to play defense in states that only a month ago were considered firmly in their pocket.
In a way, they are doing a great service to this country, by becoming so extremely repellent in their Rovian tactics, that a majority of Americans finally seem quite fed up with it all.
With any luck, this sentiment will survive beyond Obama's administration, to where such dishonest, smear-filled campaigns will simply not be politically effective anymore.
Well...I can dream, can't I? - smackydoodle, on 10/25/2008, -3/+9Georgia has a very large black population. That accompanied with the strong Obama message...ya never know. I don't see it happening on the official election day, but here's to hoping.
- Batfishy, on 10/25/2008, -2/+7I'm laughing hard at "too liberal".
I forgot that part. Things are so crazy... - sandbags, on 10/25/2008, -0/+5Now we are all together with our crazy election fraud conspiracies. Scream as loud as you want, it will only make you look crazier.
Obama, bringing people together. - diggitupyall, on 10/25/2008, -0/+5That's true, and I see your point, but you might be suprised how many christian conservatives there are in Georgia, and most are diehard republicans.
IMO, if Obama wins GA then hes going to win every state
Overall, I think its going to be a very interesting election. - slevster, on 10/25/2008, -3/+8get ready for a landslide victory. i hope the election isn't called before i even get home from work on the west coast so i can at least have a little fun on election night :)
- charmaniac, on 10/25/2008, -1/+6Sorry guys, small chance of Georgia going blue this year. Could happen in 2012, but McCain will win Georgia. Obama will win the election in a landslide, however.
- beeblebrox, on 10/25/2008, -2/+7Bush and the Republican socialist policies have already crushed America. You probably haven't noticed from the wingnut echo-chamber, but the banking industry has been NATIONALIZED. That's what 8 years of Republicans will get you. $10 trillion in debt. 2 wars that still aren't over. And an imploding economy.
But yeah, go ahead and cower at Obama's "socialist policies" as if you have any idea what you're talking about. - Mejari, on 10/25/2008, -2/+7...
...
No...
Words... - LacY, on 10/25/2008, -0/+5:) I tried to convince my family to vote for Barr, since there's no way he'd win and that'd take some votes away from McCain (apparently my family are "not" racist or bigots... but still feel that Obama is a Muslim/terrorist-sympathizer and that his name isn't presidential enough). And they wonder why I left Georgia...
But I do think my "vote for Barr" campaign has had some success with them... - inactive, on 10/25/2008, -0/+4No, really.
- diggitupyall, on 10/25/2008, -1/+5Well...
From the U.S. census in Georgia
White persons, percent, 2006 (a) 65.8%
Black persons, percent, 2006 (a) 29.9%
From census in Louisiana
White persons, percent, 2006 (a) 65.4%
Black persons, percent, 2006 (a) 31.7% - j.carcinogen, on 10/25/2008, -1/+5I happen to live north of Panama City, FL near an Army base that is in the tristate area (AL,GA, FL). In AL, Obama won the Democratic Primary easily and voter turnout on the Democratic side was twice that of the Republican side who chose Huckabee. The local people born and raised here don't care much for McCain and expect Obama to win so I doubt that many people except elderly white people caravaned by the McCain campaign are going to vote for McCain. The military population doesn't really care much for McCain either... they just want job security and McCain has repeatedly said he wants to cut defense spending.
I only know this area, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Obama win Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. - graeh, on 10/25/2008, -2/+6Congratulations - you just took a dump over your reputation.
