- patriotsfan82, on 09/27/2008, -4/+134Wait, reading the article, Why does the GOP continue to INSIST that Obama will raise middle class taxes? Since when does making over $250,000 make you "middle-class".
"If he was honest, Barack Obama knows he was unable to debate the merits of supporting higher taxes on the middle class"
How can he debate the merits of supporting higher taxes on the middle class when he DOESN'T support higher taxes on the middle class?
I simply don't understand it. - booksnmore4you, on 09/28/2008, -6/+76Don't you understand the Republican strategy yet?
Lie, obfuscate, blame your opponent of that of which you are guilty, change the subject often, drive the media with triviality, buy support from think tanks and talking heads, play manipulative games, throw Hail Mary's if you get in trouble, play the patriotism, fear, and subtle race card to get votes, etc. - BurningSky, on 09/28/2008, -0/+43You missed a decimal place. Each American would get $2,333. That's not nearly enough to pay for much of anything, let alone a house, mortgage, or medical bill...
- inactive, on 09/28/2008, -6/+48McCain has a creepy smile.
- zombies187, on 09/28/2008, -4/+31The Repubs claim that Obama is lying about his tax plan. Ta-da! He is raising taxes because we claim he will. It's stupid, but they can't run against his platform. Obama's platform is superior. They have to sow distrust to make their case.
- peheimbach, on 09/28/2008, -2/+29Remember what McCain said at Saddleback back in August: by HIS definition, the middle class ends at $5 MILLION per year.
- qwer777, on 09/28/2008, -0/+26but they aren't destroyed by logical paradoxes, its their fuel.
- inactive, on 09/28/2008, -6/+30McCain thinks "Middle Class" means someone who only owns four houses.
He's trying to help the "Lower Class", people who only own three houses. - larsone86, on 09/28/2008, -7/+25If McCain has done a great job at anything it's been misinforming people about what Obama's tax policies are. McCain keeps saying that Obama's going to "raise taxes", but what he intentionally leaves out is that Obama is going to raise taxes only for those making $250,000 or more a year. McCain also neglects to inform people that the middle and lower classes will be paying more in taxes under his plan then they will under Obama's.
When will people realize that the Republican party is by and for the rich? - avataros, on 09/28/2008, -9/+25Republicans never use the terms middle class or working people because they want the Dems to use it. Then they can blame them for inciting class warfare, which is really a foil for a more regressive taxation scheme that means less money for said middle class in the end.
- omegared, on 09/28/2008, -0/+16he wants to repeal the tax cuts for the top 5%, and keep the tax cuts for the rest of the 95%. How come you don't talk about the tax increase of McCain's? Taxing health benefit remember that?
- osukwm, on 09/27/2008, -3/+19didn't you know? democrats are robots and can be destroyed with a logic paradox.
oh wait, i forgot, republicans are the robots. damn. - LLamaStar, on 09/28/2008, -0/+14lol math is hard.
fail - coheedcollapse, on 09/28/2008, -0/+14Seriously. You think given his age he'd be able to pull off the "sad grandpa" look for a few votes, but so far all I've seen is the "wrinkled robot" and the "creepy pedosmile".
- Iphis, on 09/28/2008, -7/+19I just figured out how to get the republicans. Keep silent. It seems to be working for Obama. They can't stand it. Just say some snide remark on their digg posts or a one line intelligent statement and watch the stuff that comes out. I like riling them up but this really works and the stuff they come up with is really passionate and unintelligible. And all their crap points and language will be available for the future by looking at their diggs. Then you can quote them when they digg you down or post something stupid. It's great.
- duggdowncatisad, on 09/28/2008, -0/+12Why do I keep seeing this same retarded suggestion (and others like it) ALL OVER the ***** internet? Come on people, basic arithmetic isn't that hard, regardless of what Barbie says.
I suggest spending some of the $700 billion on improving math education in this country, it's obviously needed. - mehan, on 09/28/2008, -0/+10PARAGRAPHS, *****, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY ARE?
- Ymeg, on 09/28/2008, -1/+11You need to name Econ 101 if you think it would work out that way.
- reconsldr74d, on 09/28/2008, -0/+10Right, I'm sure the question the moderator asked about the economy had nothing to do with it...
- notoneofus, on 09/28/2008, -2/+11While you were thinking "pondering" did you know what the word meant?
- hurtmetomysoul, on 09/28/2008, -1/+10dugg for someone who has actually read a book about economics
- cadmiumpaint, on 09/28/2008, -1/+9McCain only believes in two kinds of people. rich and poor. during the debate, he said he believes in 2 tax brackets....lets just read into what that means...
- LaughingMan11, on 09/28/2008, -1/+9I see what you're trying to do, balancing both sides, but you mischaracterized Barack Obama's tax plan for the middle class, just like the Republicans do when they attack him.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story ...
Here's the real data. Yes, Obama would let the Bush tax cuts expire (they were intended to be temporary to begin with). But he would apply new tax cuts for those making less than $250,000 that would go beyond what Bush and McCain have in mind.
Please.... when you say "look at his actual tax plan" actually look at the data, and not just Republican talking points. - jurnei, on 09/28/2008, -4/+12I don't think McCain thinks there is a middle class. He seems to only be aware of women needing more education and opportunities without health care or reproductive rights. Pompous ass.
- CompUComp, on 09/28/2008, -2/+10Obama did the right thing. To strengthen the middle class, means to strengthen the invisible hand.
- chmcarro, on 09/28/2008, -0/+8Support the Paulson Plan because giving your dog a treat after ***** in the house is a great idea.
- Wangeye, on 09/28/2008, -0/+7Damn whipper snappers, always taking my continence.
- LLamaStar, on 09/28/2008, -1/+8are you making the point that obama is for the middle class and McCain isnt?
- hurtmetomysoul, on 09/28/2008, -4/+11Us Americans need to toss aside the widely held "Me First" attitude and start thinking of something bigger (i.e. our place in the world, history, existence).
Barack Obama understands that and has the wherewithal to right our financial ship & diplomatically restore our image in the world.
McCain is erratic and does not have the clout within his own party (not to mention the majority party) to maintain financial stability. His demeanor is that of a bully and will only incite more negative sentiment toward Americans. - CompUComp, on 09/28/2008, -1/+8LOL
- surgey, on 09/28/2008, -1/+8Yup. Tell it!!! Thank goodness someone else on here has a brain. Thanks booksnmore4you :)
- inactive, on 09/28/2008, -4/+11Every major poll - and major paper, even the ones that aren't considered "liberal" (such a nasty word) agree Obama won! McCain's stupid stunt about "suspending his campaign" didn't work. He's a legend in his own mind. Maybe that's why he was pissed off, well that and getting his as kicked, and he and his campaign already made a commercial stating he won. McCain's about 20 years too late.
Obama 08! - surgey, on 09/28/2008, -0/+7All you have to understand is that republicans give tax breaks to the uber rich and not to the workers of this country. So if you get millions every year you are entitled to pay less tax than someone making a measly 25 grand a year. That's what doesn't make sense. Reps want to give corporations (Ie, gas company's) and the uber rich all the breaks in the world. Coz ya know how hard life is financially for super rich people. They shouldn't have to pay more taxes than poor people struggling to make it from paycheck to paycheck. Right?
- graygorey, on 09/28/2008, -5/+12You've got to remember that McCain is the same guy who said he'd "hate the Gooks" as long as he lived (this was in 2000, maybe he's had a change of heart since then), and made joking references to bombing Iran . If he can hate entire cultures or nations, it's no real stretch for him to be ambivalent about the fate of the American middle class.
Come on. McCain's shown a marked inability to keep up with current events, technological trends (e-mail? Internet?), or even politics (preconditioned meetings), and that really casts him in a dangerous light.
He criticized Obama for his assertion that pursuing Bin Laden into Pakistan was something "you don't talk about." Yet this is the same candidate who musically joked "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran?!?" The same man who's named a potential Disney princess (except she's demonstratively neither innocent nor virgin) with zero pertinent experience as his choice for successor? The same man who married an heiress, and who owns more homes than he is physically able to recall?!?
All signs point to McCain being full of *****. All signs indicate that his principles and priorities are out of line with the average voter. Electing McCain will result in increased taxes for every American. Electing McCain will mean at least four more years of corporate welfare. Electing McCain will almost guarantee that Sarah Palin, almost the least qualified candidates, will be in charge of the country dominating the free world.
It's your right to vote for McCain /Palin, but it's also your social responsibility not to. Keep us afloat. Vote Obama/Biden. - LaughingMan11, on 09/28/2008, -0/+6slvrbullet... what you said sounds "mathy" and smart, except for the part where you're completely wrong.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story ...
Those making $60K will pay less with Obama's plan. Not to mention that 60% of all taxpayers (including married couples) would pay much less under Obama's plan. - quandrum, on 09/28/2008, -2/+8How many times do you have to be wrong?
He will only repeal it for over 250k. - Flappity, on 09/28/2008, -0/+6You seem to have defeated your own logic there
- Wangeye, on 09/28/2008, -0/+5You care way too much about digg drama.
- inactive, on 09/28/2008, -0/+5Would you prefer to keep your tanking economy and collapsing US banking system? Cos that's what's happening now.
- thatonekid393, on 09/28/2008, -0/+5Delicious copypasta
- hurtmetomysoul, on 09/28/2008, -1/+6LaughingMan is Laffering you with truth
owned - LaughingMan11, on 09/28/2008, -0/+5If you make more than $250,000, yes. In fact, that's exactly what the Obama plan is. Let the failed Bush tax policies expire for the top tax bracket, and restore the rate from the Clinton years, and target tax breaks for everyone else.
The Clinton years were the most prosperous years in our country's history. We had SURPLUSES for the closing years of his presidency. SURPLUSES. Remember the 2000 election? Remember what the candidates were arguing about? They were arguing about how to spend the $5 TRILLION SURPLUS projected for the next 10 years.
Clinton's economic policies and taxes were the most *fiscally conservative* things we as a country ever achieved.
Instead of that $5 Trillion, we got Bush. And this happened :
http://www.cbpp.org/9-12-08bud.htm
I hated the tax cuts from the very beginning. Back in 2000... they hurt our country bad. - rnichilo, on 09/28/2008, -2/+7can someone please hack and deface McCains website
- LaughingMan11, on 09/28/2008, -3/+8You need to check your history, especially during the last time trickle-down economics were used on America. Reaganomics was a failure, and it FAILED to increase tax revenue in the 80s. It wasn't until a Democratic president (Clinton) that we managed a surplus.
What you are talking about is supply-side economics and central to that is the idea of a Laffer Curve. Many economics have a problem with the practical application of this, and history is not on your side, buddy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laffer_curve - FairDinkumMate, on 09/28/2008, -2/+7Would it kill you to address the issue instead of the source?
Are you saying Huffington Post is lying & McCain really mentioned the middle class a lot(or at least one) during the debate?
Or is it too hard(or you too stupid) to defend your preferred candidate with logic & commonsense. - omegared, on 09/28/2008, -0/+5lets get a inheritance tax of 100% percent and make it a even playing field, ok? than we will found out all the smart people are. Lets change the education system so it does not benefit rich people, and help them get into the best schools.
All the ruling class knows is how to crate a system that puts the middle class at a disadvantage. - reconsldr74d, on 09/28/2008, -0/+5I'm sure the millions without health care would rather have to wait a bit to get some then not get any at all.
- ousthouse, on 09/28/2008, -0/+5He needs to first take third grade math.
- BrainInAJar, on 09/28/2008, -1/+6That's a bit much, but half a million a year is probably where I'd cut off between "upper (very upper...) middle class" and "rich"
$250,000/year is upper middle class as far as I'm concerned, and this isn't coming from a spoiled rich republican kid either. I make well under the national average, and my parents made even less than that, and I'm a dyed in the wool liberal and proud of it. -
