- whatfun, on 04/12/2008, -8/+103Wow, and the Terra Haute audience responds with a standing ovation -- looks like he struck a chord there.
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 04/12/2008, -6/+92Interesting point:
this "story" broke on Friday night. Immediately Obama responded with a clarification and even magnified his case. So, by the time this all gets chewed on over the weekend in time for Monday morning, there will be the original speech and the follow up speech. Basically nullifies the "problem". And I bet he uses this to get a bump much like the race issue gave him a bump after the effect wore off. - diggeradoo, on 04/12/2008, -12/+94This is an example of why I switched parties in PA so that I can vote for this guy. He gets it.
McCain doesn't, plus there's his age. Hillary doesn't (NAFTA, CAFTA), plus there's her pathologic lying, her husband, and now apparently according to Bill her age is an issue too. - inactive, on 04/12/2008, -8/+82Looks like McCain and the Clintons are "out of touch", and Obama has the Magic Touch.
- zephyear, on 04/12/2008, -10/+77after this speech i think this might actually help him rather than hurt
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 04/12/2008, -11/+69curious to see if FoxNews picks up on this speech. Apparently he is now the ultimate liberal elitist in their eyes.
- CeCe33, on 04/12/2008, -3/+60Thank you!! I have a job and I am bitter! I am bitter because too many of my students have parents who are either unemployed (we had two major distribution centers close) or work 2 jobs with crazy hours. Too many of my students have lost their homes, their parents have lost their cars, and I have two students with asthma who do not qualify for Medicaid but their parents cannot afford health insurance.
Yep, I'm ticked off and bitter. I am no elitist. I have a BA and I'm working on a Masters which I will need to pay off the student loans that are driving me crazy. Yet the only way to make a living as a teacher is to get the additional degree. My husband had done the same and is working on a doctorate. We each work everyday for students and we love what we do. But I may have $10 in the bank. Yes, I am bitter too. Most of us are! - FiestyPumpkin, on 04/12/2008, -6/+60Ditto! I'm bitter, too. I haven't lost my job or anything, but I am sick and tired of seeing all of us screwed over! He may have just won PA with that little speech.
On a different note, Hillary sure as hell is bitter......... that she is losing. - cg4et, on 04/12/2008, -11/+63This is a fantastic response. Of course working class people are bitter. I know I am sure as hell bitter after 7 years of George W. Bush. Hillary and McCain are just engaging in the same politics of distortion that has gotten our country into the mess that it is in today.
- HenvY, on 04/12/2008, -6/+52Wow, having followed the story as it was breaking, I really though this was going to hurt Obama. But then he comes out with this - the man is amazing, a complete smackdown for anyone trying to take advantage of statements that were obviously misinterpreted.
- actorboy, on 04/12/2008, -5/+48Hey Hill: If people are satisfied with the state of the Union, shouldn't they be voting McCain?
- chetchez, on 04/12/2008, -4/+43If you're not angry, you're not paying attention!
- southernvoice, on 04/12/2008, -7/+44he is telling the truth, american economy been shifting back and forth for the last 25 years by the american goverment
- Veni_Vidi_Vici, on 04/12/2008, -6/+36This man truly inspires me.
- Carv, on 04/12/2008, -3/+32A great response. I'm bitter too...bitter at how every time a politician like Obama tries to have a serious conversation about serious issues, the media responds to that by taking 5-second out of context sound bites and looping them over and over during the news cycle to get more viewers.
- fcsnc, on 04/12/2008, -3/+31Believe it or not, Hillary has now sent out an email DENOUNCING AND REJECTING this response by Sen. Obama. I think this may be the middle of the end of her campaign, to coin a phrase.
- okayokayokay, on 04/12/2008, -2/+29http://farm1.static.flickr.com/119/294168009_b25de ...
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 04/12/2008, -2/+28The response now has as many diggs the original "bitter" digg post.
- tcbishop12, on 04/12/2008, -6/+30Absolutely, right on the mark.
- zephyear, on 04/12/2008, -4/+25It is over Hillary and John. Drop out for the good of America.
- Michael9636, on 08/04/2008, -5/+26What a completely ridiculous comment. Talk about distortion!
- Willravel, on 04/12/2008, -3/+23Check out my blog at www.i_dont_understand_socialism.org/capitalism_is_magic/i_teach_economics_to_fifth_graders.html and you'll totally get why I'm plugging my website!!
- inactive, on 04/12/2008, -6/+26Yeah, that's why they gave him a ***** standing ovation. Your elevator doesn't go all the way up does it?
- tjlyttle, on 04/12/2008, -4/+24just as i finished watching the video i overheard my parents listening to fox news, and Sean Hannity was using this speech to say that Obama was saying that indiana voters are gun-toting religious bigots.
***** fox news - Erkdance, on 04/12/2008, -1/+19It is spelled "Terre Haute"
- EridanMan, on 04/12/2008, -2/+20Attack? What Attack? Did you just watch the same speech I did?
- inactive, on 04/12/2008, -4/+21People are bitter, and its because of 20 years of Bush Clinton. And people do need to stop voting on silly wedge issues, as opposed to big picture issues.
- Railz, on 04/12/2008, -3/+20I can't wait to see McCain vs. Obama in the national debate. Oh man...
- sulthernao, on 04/12/2008, -4/+20No, moron. He said that the cling to such wedge issues instead of focusing on REAL problems, like the god damn economy.
- Willravel, on 04/12/2008, -4/+20Clinton served two terms as... um... wife? The she won in an overwhelmingly democratic state against a weak opponent? Then she walked the fence on virtually everything that was on her plate? Obama wasn't married into power, he actually amassed it himself by graduating magna cum laude from Harvard Law, worked for civil rights at Miner, Barnhill and Galland, and actually taught constitutional law at University of Chicago.
Are ya stoned? - inactive, on 04/12/2008, -6/+22***** fox and cnn. ***** lou dobbs.
- pushmouse, on 04/12/2008, -3/+19This seems to be all Repubs have left to say. ***** sad.
- Railz, on 04/12/2008, -1/+17You mean he means to tax before spending?
You mean he wants to try and work with other nations instead of sending the sons of the flag to die global hegemony?
Oh, the liberal horror. - TotalHalibut, on 04/12/2008, -1/+16That was a rhetorical question, I already know you're stupid.
Now you can tell me what irony is. - wishninja, on 04/12/2008, -6/+20lol I just do not understand why McCain and Clinton want to waist their time running against this guy. There is just no way they are going to win. Imagine a debate between McCain and Obama? McCain is dead meat.
- Railz, on 04/12/2008, -2/+16A website named "no socialism"
yup
not bias'd. - jaznova, on 04/12/2008, -1/+15You're going to wear out your Ctrl + V buttons dude
- sulthernao, on 04/12/2008, -4/+18Yeah, what the hell is Bill thinking? Once you get to 60 your memory starts failing? Well, all the more of a reason to vote for Obama, right?
- HenvY, on 04/12/2008, -3/+17i'm sorry, did you say fox NEWS?
- spokenorigami, on 04/12/2008, -4/+17Yea, i've got to agree. This has the potential to help him more than hurt him.
- mh732, on 04/12/2008, -1/+13So be sure never to blame black people for your misfortunes KKKRobertByrd, you ***** ass.
- TotalHalibut, on 04/12/2008, -1/+13Vote for him I'd imagine.
- Timetheos, on 04/12/2008, -3/+15Political Aikido
- TotalHalibut, on 04/12/2008, -2/+14No-one cares about your ***** blog.
- diggboi, on 04/12/2008, -2/+13Obama's done more in the past month to combat the sloganeering, "sound bite" snippet ***** that passes for TV journalism these days than every other politician has done in the last 30 years. Maybe this guy can help us bring meaningful dialogue back into the public arena, if we can rid ourselves of these pathetic "gotcha" sensationalists that foul our minds as they seek to outdo each other for that night's ratings bump.
With the world in the state it's in, we need a return to reason, and Obama is the only one with the chops and the stomach to do it. Every other consideration for your vote is pale ***** by comparison. - TotalHalibut, on 04/12/2008, -1/+12My god, do you even know what rhetorical means?
- peticsu, on 04/12/2008, -1/+12onlinemuck...you dont represent America
- Totalchaos02, on 04/12/2008, -2/+12As was pointed on CNN earlier, what he said historically accurate. When people are in bad economic situation that tend to lash out at other groups. Washington is screwing people and he pointed out that people are bitter but, all Clinton can respond with is that we should all feel good and give ourselves a round of applause? Please, if he loses a single vote over telling the truth it will prove to me that our elections aren't phony, it's the people that are because they can't handle being told what they know is true.
- sweetholymosiah, on 04/12/2008, -1/+11I can't believe Americans let the mainstream news do that to someone. Had they let it drop no one would have given a *****
- martoq, on 04/12/2008, -2/+12She couldn't fill the seats.
