“But then I was struck by the darkness. Huge chunks of Africa and parts of Asia where the light of the information revolution has yet to shine. And then I noticed portions of the United States where the thick cords of light dissolved into a few discrete strands. It is unacceptable that here, in the country that invented the Internet, we fell to 15th in the world in broadband deployment,” he continued.
Obama pointed out that lack of high speed Internet access hurts America’s global competitiveness, “When kids in downtown Flint or rural Iowa can't afford or access high-speed Internet that sets back America's ability to compete. As President, I will set a simple goal: every American should have the highest speed broadband access – no matter where you live, or how much money you have. We'll connect schools, libraries and hospitals. And we'll take on special interests to unleash the power of wireless spectrum for our safety and connectivity.” - philodygmn, on 06/16/2008, -1/+2What he ought to do is have the guts to stand against the telecoms to create a truly level playing field, and innovation will follow. All this does is make government a gatekeeper for new ideas, and if this passes the telecoms will know they can afford not to lift a finger ever again until eventually government will mandate some new little end-result that does nothing to address infrastructural problems which could facilitate a climate of innovation instead of breathing through a bureaucratic, political, legal straw for every scrap of functionality from here to ***** eternity.

"Change" would be LESS government spending, significantly LOWER taxes, and market based money. Looks like Obama's "change" is simply doing what we've been doing...only more...faster...and harder. Obama would be a disaster. McCain would be worse.
