Even both parents working is almost irrelevant with the cost of daycare, driving, time etc... Also consider planning for retirement, education, emergency. I live pretty modestly, and I'd say that $200k is just about the break even point. It also depends on where you live and (admittedly) how you live. Perhaps it's not "struggling", but it's also not "rich".
And to your question: would you rather have a person who knows how to "struggle" on $200k, or a person who knows how to live the high life with tens of millions earned on the backs of others?
