- schnikies79, on 08/24/2008, -3/+46I personally hate it when politicians run a campaign against their opponent or predecessor instead of running a campaign for themselves.
Free speech still rules it of course, but it does affect who I vote for. I liked Obama better when he left McCain out of his speeches. - thedragon4453, on 08/24/2008, -13/+44I think that I'll be backing Obama in this election, but I would like to here less about "hope" and "change" and more about the actual changes. It's going to take some serious policy changes to make this country whole again, and I want to hear what he's got in mind.
- brentinkc, on 08/24/2008, -3/+27If only there were some type of global "interweb" where people could exchange information freely and openly.
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/
Seriously, it's August and you don't know where the two candidates stand on the issues and what plans they've laid forth? I think the problem is less about Obama going into policy detail and more about you not paying attention. - MasterTroll, on 08/24/2008, -12/+36Obama is actually secretly the Sith Lord in disguise. Voting him in will be the biggest mistake in US history. Iraq War? How about a Galactic War? I'll see all of you in the droid slave trade.
- dvinnen, on 08/24/2008, -5/+25If the internet is a valid indicator of national election results then Ron Paul would of been the Republican nominee.
- dizilbdog, on 08/24/2008, -1/+18How about "***** We've Heard Before"
- lastmaster, on 08/24/2008, -3/+20Well, i am tired of only paying for MY family's health care... i would much rather pay for EVERYONE's health care via higher taxes, that is why i am voting democrat in '08. See you in the emergency room's waiting line, bitches!
- Chode2235, on 08/24/2008, -4/+19thats a common complaint I see, but if all you know about BO is what you see in his stadium speeches you are missing a lot of it. Sure those speeches are high flying and grand, but there is an awful lot of detail on his website, as well as other less spectacular speeches for you to check out if you want the full breadth of details.
Its out there. To say BO has no real plans is just propaganda. - brentinkc, on 08/24/2008, -3/+18Unfortunately, as sited in the article, negative campaigning often works. It's cost Obama several points already. I'm all about positive campaigning, but not if it's going to cost you the race. If you're upset with negative campaigning, go ahead and send McCain an email and let him know he's being a douchebag.
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -5/+19Obama just nuked himself by choosing Biden. It says flat out, I have no confidence in myself so I need an old guy who actually knows what's going on in washington to help me. Picking biden also says, I will do something stupid and insane if democratic insiders tell me to, even if it runs counter to every bit of common sense I have and the guy has already said racist things about my bathing habits and said himself that I'm not ready for the job. It was a pick that shows a large group of people second and third guessing themselves, and a terrible one. I real leader would have said, "are you kidding me?" Joe Biden? If you think back to the clinton gore ticket, you felt a little nervous, because they were both really young and seemed really idealistic, but it was a good kind of nervous. Obama should have picked Evan Bayh. It would have felt like he was cleansing the country of the putrid washington insider disease we've been suffering from.
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -3/+17just curious but: does anyone here ever get the feeling that there are obama staffers maybe even paid obama staffers out in force on digg to digg down anything but 'obama now and forever'
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -6/+20AHAHAH. This guy is on crack. The youth are what? Mobilized? ahahahhaa. Mobilized to accomplish nothing like every election year. And if you are fed up to any link to big bad administration you might start by having the Democrat party fix history by A. Not voting for the Iraq War B. voting not to continue funding it c. Impeaching Bush d. Taking back their vote for FISA and telecom Immunity. E.Returning the 400 billion dollar IOU to China they gave to American banks who made crappy loans. 1 day 400 billion dollars gone. Thanks Democrats... For nothing.
- flink405, on 08/24/2008, -4/+18Obama is fast become a political celebrity cliche'.
What's the first publication to do an interview with Obama and Biden? Time? Newsweek? NY Times?
No. People magazine.
Repeat - People Magazine. Britney. Paris. Barack. Joe.
Celebrities.
Adding Biden to the ticket totally takes away the magic that Obama tried to project.
Change. New. Out with the old.
Gone.
Biden is an old, Washington insider with strong ties to lobbyists. (His son is even a lobbyist.)
He has been part of the problem in Washington for over 35 years.
Biden is almost a Democrat McCain. (Notice they even both have younger, blond bombshell wives!) - CourtesyFlush, on 08/24/2008, -1/+14"Please stand by while we change your previously promised change with an unscheduled change in the change strategy."
"We apologize for the changes to the change and assure you that these changes will not change the changes previously promised." - inactive, on 08/24/2008, -0/+13Just another obama fanatic who does not tolerate dissent. Just Ignore him. This is still America. Obama hasn't struck down the 1rst amendment yet, though he did vote for FISA.
- NightVortez, on 08/24/2008, -6/+19Obama needs to stop playing these games, really? His slogans consist of two of the most over-used, vague, obvious political buzz words ever created? Why? It just makes him look bad, Bush ran as the "change" guy, do people honestly look at the word and see anything in it? Same with "Hope" and anything involving children, this country, or saving something.
- btschul, on 08/24/2008, -5/+18And up with socialism?
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -27/+39You left out the fact that Obama is the only Affirmative Action candidate.
Here in Chicago, Illinois, for the police and fire departments they promote minorities from the 45th percentile over whites scoring in the 90th percentile for sergeants. That is what affirmative action gets you. I wonder how Obama will fare given we can never know who passed him or gave him a "grade" due to his genetic code. - inactive, on 08/24/2008, -2/+13It meant nothing.
- eth3l, on 08/24/2008, -10/+21Anyone who truly thought that Obama was an agent of hange is retarded and should not vote at all. Fools.
- GhostyBoy, on 08/24/2008, -1/+12If the internet was a valid indicator Ron Paul would have been President of the world.
- diggproof, on 08/24/2008, -7/+17Change you can take a nine car limousine caravan to pick up coffee at Starbucks in.
- Cougarcat, on 08/24/2008, -0/+9Hence it's in the "Opinion" section.
- angryfirelord, on 08/24/2008, -0/+9What version of Star Wars have you been watching?
- Pedestrian101, on 08/24/2008, -9/+17Stop reading it at "OMG"
- eth3l, on 08/24/2008, -0/+8Ya know, I was always wondering how I could do that too!
- JHB800, on 08/24/2008, -0/+8Because to do so would completely undermine his pick of Joseph Biden as VP. Biden has been in the senate longer than McCain, and has taken in more than $6 million dollars in lobbyist money in the last 10 years.
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -2/+10He never said he was voting for Obama you idiot.
- SmartfulDodger, on 08/24/2008, -3/+11It's true Dragon, listening to campaign speeches is one of the least effective ways to learn about a candidates platform details. The point of the speech is to get people excited, spit out a few good sound bytes, and shake a lot of hands.
Want the details? Campaign websites are a great start. Of course, you could really go for the win by checking out some of their past legislation too - which can all by found on the THOMAS library of Congress site.
Happy learning! - Yage2006, on 08/24/2008, -2/+10Wow your ***** in the head.
- barfooz, on 08/24/2008, -0/+8It's meant sarcastically. A subtle jab at Obama's young Kool-aid quaffing legions.
- NightVortez, on 08/24/2008, -3/+11I believe his reason was something along the lines of not appearing weak to the voters.
Bunch of ***** really if he values votes more than he does the Constitution. - xman8, on 08/24/2008, -2/+9Obama has changed his mind when it is convenient for him to try and gain votes. That is what he meant by "change".
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -4/+11'mccain is toast' is the bravado of the not quite sure he actually beliefs it to be so
i'm not for mccain but i see he is hardly toasted - Czechxican, on 08/24/2008, -5/+12This guy has a good point. We have watched Obama slip in the polls and unless he starts making big hits against McCain we might see the Republicans win the white house again. I don't want to see the US thrown under the bus as Republicans continue to make their own agenda and serve their own purposes. Obama must attack McCain on an Economic level. We have been wowed by change and his rhetoric and now are sitting around waiting to see what it all meant.
- inactive, on 08/25/2008, -1/+8From the NY Sun: "...In August 2006, Mr. Obama visited Kenya and spoke in support of Mr. Odinga's candidacy at rallies in Nairobi. " Obama spoke at Odinga's rallies.
The link you sent ignores that. - JHB800, on 08/24/2008, -0/+7Except he's not. He's lost a significant amount of ground in the last few weeks, and his pick of Biden isn't going to help.
Obama has a long ways to go to win, and unless something big happens, there's a very real possibility that he could lose. - Logrusmage, on 08/24/2008, -5/+12Meaningless platitudes (hint: Every time he says the word "change" without being specific he's making one of these) tend to make bad Presidents.
- TheCooler72, on 08/24/2008, -2/+9I would highly recommend his Blueprint for Change:
http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/ObamaBlueprintForCh ... - digismack, on 08/24/2008, -13/+19Not that I'm particularly for affirmative action, but what's the difference in Obama possibly being passed or given a grade based on his race when Bush / McCain were more than likely passed or given a grade because of who their parents are.
Ron Paul 2008 - chrissku, on 08/24/2008, -14/+20Obama definitely needs to shake up his campaign a bit. It's too late in the race to let John McCain start gaining ground. If Barack allows this election to be a referendum on him he will lose. Picking Joe Biden is a good start.
- Corrosionx, on 08/24/2008, -1/+7Everyone wants change. Some want change like increasing the size of government, some people want change like decreasing the size of government.
What you won't get this election is a candidate that proposes to decrease the size of the government. - RetlawST, on 08/24/2008, -0/+6"Postmodern Coup" is a book with a mission -- to confuse individuals who will believe anything they read.
Anybody who uses the phrases '"Volvo-driving" democrats' as if it's some sort of defining characteristic obviously isn't thinking for themselves. - inactive, on 08/24/2008, -13/+19Affirmative action negatively effects 100% of the white male population in the United States. It keeps them from getting job interviews out of college, keeps them from getting hired, promoted, pay raises, contracts, how they retire, etc.
- Charlotte_Web, on 08/24/2008, -4/+10Of course, the real reason Frank Rich is telling Obama to drop the "Change We Can Believe In" message is that Obama just named the ultimate Washington insider and career politician as his VP.
So much for the promise of change made to folks during the primaries! - binky79, on 08/24/2008, -1/+6Change i believe in includes not being part of anyone's "strategy."
- JMaj, on 08/24/2008, -13/+18rofl, I laughed so hard.
- mille716, on 08/25/2008, -3/+8Yea, ***** Obama! If only he had the intelligence to realize that class should be a factor for college admissions just as much a race. It's crazy that he doesn't understand that his two girls coming from a privileged upbringing shouldn't get extra help in an college admissions office over some poor white kids...Oh wait, he DOES understand that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saIVafSC38k&feature ...
Whatever though, right? He's still an A-hole for supporting quotas!...No wait. Wrong on that too.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi- ...
But you are right, Affirmative Action needs to be done away with altogether since employers have no bias when it comes to hiring anymore. No wait. Still wrong. Actually if the exact same resumes are sent out a white sounding name has a 50% higher chance of getting a callback than a black sounding name.
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m3495/is_2_4 ... - Bloodwine, on 08/24/2008, -2/+7I'm going to capitalize on this election by making a bunch of "I voted for the other guy" bumper stickers and "We're sorry!!" signs when McCain wins the election. The Democrats like to brag about them being more affluent than the typical Republican, so that's a market I'd like to tap. A fool and his money...
- inactive, on 08/24/2008, -0/+5Most people have no idea how much most conservatives hate Bush's fiscal stupidity and his policy on torture.
I know several conservatives who are either sitting this election out or voting for Barr out of distaste for both candidates. I plan to do the same thing.
I think McCain grossly underestimates how much of the distaste for Bush comes from other Republicans; he should be trying to distance himself from Bush, not backpedal and act more like Bush than ever. This is what's going to kill McCain's campaign in November. -
