- dbizzell, on 05/28/2008, -0/+40I think you left caps lock on.
- paranoiabacon, on 05/28/2008, -10/+48This comment may get dugg up.
Hillary may lose the primaries. - dmightx, on 09/21/2008, -0/+33Gee heh... your caps lock makes this very convincing...
- sovereign3, on 05/29/2008, -8/+26"Obama may turn Montana blue."
...says some random blogger. - inactive, on 05/28/2008, -0/+16Have you been further north than the Carolinas and further West than Texas?
Montanans defy stereotype. They are not like Texans, they are well educated, and they probably live there to enjoy the outdoors. Those are about the only generalities I've come up with living there and having family there.
Oh, and they are kinda tired of Californians... except Californians never last more than one or two winters.
I'd bet they'd vote on the economy, the environment, and maybe farm subsidies (for the landowners and ranchers who like that check coming in).
In the end, it hardly matters. It's a tiny state with three blazing electoral college votes and no use as a bellweather. - SleepParalysis, on 05/28/2008, -5/+21There is a lot of support for Ron Paul in Montana, Idaho and Washington state. I don't think Obama could get more support in Montana. They hate the government there, as well as in Northern Idaho.
- kvanderslice, on 05/28/2008, -1/+14Ever been to Montana?
- inactive, on 05/28/2008, -7/+16sounds like someone who has never lived in northern idaho, montana. Having lived and traveled through there for roughly 8 years, I can tell you that they do NOT hate the government, but they stand steadfast against corrupt politicians.
- infinitus64, on 05/29/2008, -3/+12No bama knows that caplocks are cruise controll for cool but you still need steer.
- crazyfingers33, on 05/29/2008, -0/+8A) Bill Clinton won MT when he ran for president
B) Both Senators and the Governor are Democrats
It seems odd that it's being played up like it's so unheard of. I'll admit I live in MT and there are places full to the brim with country bumpkins, but honestly I can't think of one on par with the "I've had it up to hear with Hu-ssein!" WV people they were interviewing on the daily show. - SleepParalysis, on 05/29/2008, -1/+9Born and raised in Montana next to the Northern Idaho border. That's 22 years on your 8. People in this area hate big government and if you haven't seen it you're blind, literally.
This area used to be crawling with right-wing extremist (anti-government) organizations that went so far as to kill people and blow ***** up. The massacre at Ruby Ridge is another example of the hate that has developed in people for the feds.
So sorry, have to bury you on this one provost. - Twenty, on 05/29/2008, -0/+8Maybe there are signs that say "We hate big government!" all along the roads, and on the sides of houses? Then you'd have to be literally blind.
- Mejari, on 05/29/2008, -1/+8No one said it was. If you had read the article you would see that it said that South Dakota was the one that hasn't been Democratic for a while, and they even specifically said that Bill Clinton won South Dakota. No one's making the argument that Montana is a state that has never voted Democratic, the article is about how, while the consensus seemed to be that McCain would win Montana this time, Obama may be able to take it this time around. That's all. And as to the 'running outta things to digg up', I don't know about you, but the potential for a state that was until recently clearly in McCain's corner to switch to Obama is pretty interesting.
- richness, on 05/28/2008, -7/+14RP may split the Republican voters in the NW, and that leaves the door wide open for Dem's to take possession. Unlikely, but possible.
- inactive, on 05/29/2008, -0/+7Poor *****, when was the last time you saw a girl with no fur?
- jorad, on 05/29/2008, -1/+8What colour exactly is 'Montana Blue?'
- maxer64, on 05/29/2008, -1/+7You bring the oh so clever name puns and I'll bring the tin foil hats.
- ktkc7c, on 05/29/2008, -2/+8I am in Northwest Montana right now, up here it looks like it is going to Ron Paul. I am not even joking. Signs and supporters everywhere.
- FENWAYFREAK, on 05/29/2008, -1/+7Those 3 electoral college votes will really help.
- petebot, on 05/29/2008, -2/+8Wow. Way to bring Ron Paul-style crazy to Hillary's side!
- digghalo, on 05/29/2008, -2/+8I did my part. Just sent in my absentee ballot for Obama! (yes, there are diggers from Montana)
- Shadic, on 05/29/2008, -3/+8What the ***** is with people calling Obama elitist? He's had by far the most humble upbringings of any presidential candidate, and is my far the most intelligent now. Also, he is definitely not a Muslim, end even if he was, why would it matter?
- kidjay, on 05/29/2008, -1/+6thanks in big part to Tester and Baucus.
- thatsmyaibo, on 05/29/2008, -4/+9Looks at submitter's name...looks at blog name...buried. There is no intellectual source here. Just a blog telling diggers what they want to hear.
- inactive, on 05/29/2008, -2/+7Now I know why they call Obomber the 'candidate of hope'. I call it delusion.
- WiseWeasel, on 05/29/2008, -1/+5Thanks for the insight, MOron... you will die alone.
- WiseWeasel, on 05/29/2008, -6/+10This is really giving Obama a lot of credit. If anything, it would be McCain turning Montana blue...
- mfrider, on 05/29/2008, -1/+5you got that right, we are very tired of the Californians, and most of us do live here for the outdoors. and like you said, we don't have much power when it comes to the electoral college.
- trevorh, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4Damn Straight Montana can turn blue we have a democrat as our governor and both of our senators plus it is about even in the state legislature.
As long as the democrats don't start trying to take our guns we could definitely go blue.
P.S. I need my mutated anthrax for duck hunting. - tschau, on 05/29/2008, -0/+4If you aren't aware of the political climate in your area, you may be metaphorically blind to the metaphoric sight of it, but it in no way mandates you be *literally* blind.
- blup3ace, on 05/29/2008, -1/+4You call me an idiot, and expect to be dugg up?
*buried* - darlingt, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3And you may have needed to think before you posted.
- badqat, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3And the election isn't until November, and Obama still hasn't locked down his nomination.
- jaderobbins, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3We have a democrat as a governor, two democrats in the senate.
How is Montana not already blue? As a state we tend to send democrats to washington and republicans to Helena. Been that way for awhile now. - feckineejit, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3and "the one about al qaeda" is getting old, you can tell people are desperate when they rally support for obvious propaganda. BS
- mustang460, on 05/29/2008, -4/+7I think it will be cool to have a blue president, hes got my vote
- tschau, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3They should have made some pun about turning the Big Sky blue. Then I'd have dugg it up.
- badqat, on 05/29/2008, -1/+4Trust me...if Obama could pick up these 3, they would help him, because I don't think he can pull of an electoral college victory.
But I also don't think he can pick up these 3 either. - orangePenguin92, on 05/28/2008, -13/+16We get the point already, Obama > Clinton / McCain. We don't need a front page article about it every single day. I'll be glad when this election is over.
- yodacallmesome, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3Maybe McCain will win if you use a larger font size.
- inactive, on 05/29/2008, -2/+5"and is my far the most intelligent now"
Right.... And US troops freed Auschwitz. Even Montanans know the difference between Poland and Germany, Obama does not. - SleepParalysis, on 05/29/2008, -0/+3It has everything to do with big government and like you said, world corruption. Weaver was in with or associated with skin-heads and other people who believe that the United States is joining a one world government, a new world order.
It was a massacre, the agents claimed they had no idea that they had shot Weavers son in the back after an ATF agent was killed for shooting the kids dog. They claimed they had no idea their sniper had shot his wife through the face as she stood in the doorway. They then forgot to mention the fact that they had rigged the robot that brought the phone to their door with ironically, a sawed off shotgun which would have shot and killed/maimed whoever picked up the phone to negotiate. They were going to kill everyone in that cabin, probably as revenge for the first agent shot.
It doesn't matter anyway. If you've not seen the hatred for government, especially for the feds in Montana and northern Idaho, then you've got to be blind and probably deaf. In fact, these two states are often cited as the two filled with the most anti-government individuals in the entire United States.
If for some reason you can't fathom it, start here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9-Ih4H70MM
You'll like it anyways, it's very interesting. - malvado, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2ummm, you should have seen all the Paul signs in Oregon for the run-up. Way to lock in that 14%.
- JamJosh, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2I've lived in eastern (very conservative) Montana for the first 21 years of my life and western (liberal) Montana the last 4. It's apparent, especially here in Bozeman, that Obama and Ron Paul are the leaders. My realization that Obama will most likely win was when I saw all the Obama bumper stickers and signs in eastern Montana on my way home. I'm just saying, if he's big in eastern (very conservative) Montana then he pretty much has the state..
- oselznick, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Maybe if you learned how to spell, people would take you seriously.
Instead, you're reduced to name calling.
Pathetic. - trevorh, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Really I didn't think they had electricity in Montana.
/Joking I'm a Montanan and proud of it. - HellDonut, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Obviously the white population of Montana are not enough hard-working.
- badqat, on 05/29/2008, -3/+5Just a blog telling obamabots on digg what they want to hear.
- DKAJC, on 05/29/2008, -0/+2Lots of lulz for the cleverness of your question.
