So at first Obama states that "make sure your child can speak spanish", but later he also states "that its embarassing when Europeans come over here they can speak fine english, but when we go over to Europe all we can say is merci beucoo." So Mr. Obama how is making sure American kids learn Spanish in any way relevant to being able to speak French or any other European language for that matter. Are future Americans supposed to impress biased Europeans by saying "ke", "ke paso" as they step of the plane into a European airport? Please this is far worse then any bs that huffingtonpost can come up with too attack mccain. For future references at least make sure your speeches make some freaking sense.

      His statement is more proof that democrats want a big sky daddy to tell them how to live their lives, but conservatives just want someone to fill the constitutional obligations of the office of President.

    Before you start calling me bigoted for thinking this is a stupid thing to say, hear me out.

    Obama is talking here about the need for Americans to speak more than one language. I'm fine with that. The trouble is, 3.4 MILLION Americans cannot speak English at all. (2000 Census data: http://70.86.230.142/archive/larc/newsitedesign/LE ...

    For many Americans, there is such an immersion in Spanish that they never need to learn any English at all to get by. It's not just about official government publications, from Spanish-only television and radio networks to much of the advertising and retail, there's a second America, one which exists entirely in Spanish.

    We're creating a permanent segregation between Spanish speaking Americans and English speaking Americans, and it's trending towards further disparity, not less.

    Telling kids to "learn Spanish" isn't the answer, it will only serve to deepen a sense of split cultural identity between Hispanics and everyone else. The idea of a "melting pot" was that all nations would blend together in America, each bringing their unique cultural heritage, but ultimately using that to enrich our diversity, not to remain unassimilated and segregated.

    Obama's heart is in the right place, but his words are incredibly poorly chosen, especially in a time when there's such a struggle over what it means to be an American.

    I love how America changes with every new generation, and how we have elements from all over the world in our culture, and I welcome the growing influence of Hispanic culture as it gets stirred into the pot. What I don't welcome is the idea of turning the United States into North Mexico, and expecting our citizens to change, adapt, and assimilate into someone else's culture.

Every person around me appeared to be Latino, including the staff. Are we in the United States anymore? Just curious...

    Most came to start over and not perpetuate their old cultures and failed ways. People came to become Americans, not hispanics, orientals, black, white or any other nationality except American! Remember a house divided can NOT stand!

It's not like we went to europe, put a gun to their heads and forced them to learn the language. His other comments on how "immigrants will learn english" is total BS... he's obviously never been to California or Florida.

    Look into any school cafeteria in the United States for a look at self-segregation illustrates the failure of ‘multiculturalism’. A single glance at the racial violence accelerating in our inner cities demonstrates our expanding quandary. In the most liberal city in America, Boulder, Colorado—rich, SUV-driving parents, sporting bumper stickers that read, “Celebrate Diversity”, whisk their kids to all-white schools and away from growing minority schools drowning in third world alien children. Boulder City Council supports a sanctuary policy. Their crime rates, school failures, hospital costs and prison costs rose as their illegal migrant population grew. Schools in Detroit, Michigan suffer 76 percent drop out/flunk out rates with a growing legal Middle Eastern immigrant population. Isn't "multiculturalism" grand, y'all?

    Yet, with our nation seething in unrest, anger and growing frustration, non-white groups grow in power based on the lack of enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. While Americans of all strips that work for a living are forced to pay for these ingrates.

    And BO has the nerve to say this garbage. He has already proved just how much he hates European (white) Americans and continues to do it. Is white America going to take a stand against this blatant hate and racism or are you going to cow-taw in the corner for fear of being called a racist yourself? This situation is growing worse by the day and all European Americans will find themselves refugees in their own country that their fore fathers conquered and built!!!!!!! Hell in California and Florida you are refugees. Is that what you want? The founding forefathers to this country are screaming at you from the grave. Grow the moral courage, the backbone, and pride in your culture to stand United together as unbreakable force that your founding forefathers had! And no there is nothing racist about it, especially since every non-white is afforded that. It is only denied, balked at and denounced as "racism" if your skin color happens to be white. HYPOCRISY
